the turn around that this boys team has had in 2 years in remarkable! 2 years ago they may have won 5 games and to have the chance at the State tournament tonight is pretty dang good!

Same could be said for UH - 8-20 two years ago to 28-5 this year and a shot a state tonight! I know all the teams and coaching staffs work really hard, but to see some "Cinderella"s" with a shot is pretty cool.

Cosby was the better team, UH had the best player and he just happened to make a play to win it..when you’re ahead by 8 going into the 4th you’re supposed to win..our 6’5” post guarded Meredith and some a really good job..but our 1-3-1 gave North Greene fits pretty much won us the game and we didn’t run it 1 possession of it against UH..i think we can go to Oneida and win..maybe we got the better draw..

Cosby was the better team for the first 3 quarters, but never could stretch the lead. Last I heard the games play for 4 quarters and UH had enough gas in the tank...AS A TEAM...to close it out. Meredith is a special talent, but UH plays best when they work as a unit and the 4th quarter showed that!

Both of these teams could be tough outs because thier is no quit in either

  3. UH vs Cosby was a really good game. Some officiating question marks, but evenly called game. UH came up with the plays down the stretch. I have to give out some kudo's to the Cosby players and supporters - the kids were hard and tough, but never lost there cool. The supporters were great to watch and listen to with there football style cheers and the way they showed up in numbers...good for them!

UH vs Harriman in JC...I have no idea what to expect.

I remember one year (2010?) they chanted "ITS ALRIGHT ITS OKAY YOU'LL WORK FOR US ONE DAY" as they took their loss...And that was parents...it's funny the fantasy world some people live in Lol...And if GB was fighting in the stands, we all know they HAD to have been fighting amongst themselves if UH was the opponent :roflol:

It’s funny how everyone comes out of the woodwork to either defend or attack the school / team of the moment. UH hasn’t been relevant in years, but now that they are this year, everyone attacks/defends. ALL schools have had thier not so shining moments over the years, so to point out UH alone is a bit slanted. UH players have been the punching bag of Hampton, Cland and NG for the past few years and I don’t think those teams / parents like it on the other foot.

GB was out of gas at the half. It called conditioning, maybe your next coach can look it up. GB was bigger at every spot and should have had a better plan, but...that’s why they play the games. After 30 games or so, your record is your record for a reason - good or bad.

As for the “near brawl” last night in the stands. UH parents changed seats after heated exchange. GB gentleman was escorted out of gym by officer after the game. GB scorekeeper left scoring table and went into stands to chastise?? All?? Not sure about the rules on that? Looked like just some overheated parents in the first half while the game was still a game. Nothing settles everyone down like an early blowout in the 2cd half.

    You heard/read it here first:

UH by 10 (70-60) close at the half, but UH too much.

Unaka by 6 (55-49) Jellico makes it closer than it really was.

Hancock County by 13 (58-45) NG just can't score enough to stay in it.

Cosby by 22 (80-58) Over early and Cosby coast to win.

I hope you all placed your bets!!!!

To me, District 2-A teams are the stronger teams than from District 1-A. Having said that, Hancock County in my opinion has been overrated all season long. I think Cosby is the team to beat in the R1-A Tourney. The #1 seed from District 1(University High) is a good team but they just don't have the players that Cosby has. Greenback really could beat University High in the Quarterfinals in what I would call a mild upset myself.

The North Greene & Hancock County game is really a toss up but I will give the slight advantage to Hancock County though. I predict Jellico to beat Unaka in the Quarterfinals. Cosby will have no trouble handling Hampton in the final Quarterfinal matchup. Looking at the R-1A bracket, I honestly think Cosby & Greenback could be in the R-1A Championship.

    Nice GB pick.

I like that top bracket! Hopefully GB comes to play and UH is scratching head at their 4 seed match up. We can be dangerous when we are hitting and not turning ball over. Ask Cosby!

Who's not dangerous when they hit shots and limit turnovers???

  9. Due to a couple of upsets (on paper) Jellico over Hancock and N. Greene over Hampton - tonight is very interesting for positioning. UH and NG will host Hancock and Greenback. Cosby and Jellico will host Unaka and Hampton.

If you take the chalk route - UH vs Gback, NG vs Hancock, Cosby vs Unaka and Jellico vs Hampton.

This potentially sets up very interesting games for the Regional Semi-Finals - UH vs Hampton and Cosby vs Hancock - obviously the teams know each other very well.

Then we would have a very solid Regional Final with both teams advancing.

I know there will be "upsets", just not sure of a dark horse making a run.

I can’t figure out the district 1. So University High struggles with Unaka huh? Unaka must be much improved or had some key people out when GB played them over Christmas break. They beat us by 11 in a game where we had our 2 leading scorers out Bailey & Willis and another top scorer and Sr. PG on the bench from mid 3rd qtr on. Hmm...

I don’t agree with “hard fought win”. UH won by 20 ish and ran away in the second half. UH did play well, but with the talent UH has, no game in district should be interesting. Trick is for them to just go out and play.

not sure I would want UH on any floor.

  11. Another Friday night and another good slate of games. Hamp @ Cland is the one to watch, IMO. I don't think Cland can recover from another home conference loss. UH on the road @ Sullivan North should be a W for UH, but who knows when you go on the road and then NG at Unaka - winner keeps it interesting for the conference title.

UH has all their work in front of them with away games at the big 3 - too early to tell if they are legit.

Hamp has the inside track if/when UH slips up

NG laying in the weeds waiting...

Unaka has overachieved so far, IMO

Cland needs to wake up - NOW! before it really is too late.

Sull North is going to wreck someones hopes, but that's all they can do.

The next two weeks will be very interesting and I hope the teams bring their "A" games. Could be fun to watch.

  12. OK, OK...enough on the bashing of a team's kids. Having watched games in this conference for years, i have seen each team have it's embarrassing moments. Swearing, acting a fool towards ref's, yelling at their own coach, arguments on the court with teammates, racial slurs...you name it a team in this conference has done it at some point. Some of the parents behavior is even worse!

Tonight's games should be interesting with CLand @ UH and Hamp @ NG. Either separation Friday or a jumbled mess. Let's go chaos!

  13. I was at the UH / Hampton game last night and I must say I was not impressed by either team. It was sloppy, lots of isolation / ball hogging and way too many missed open shots. I've seen both play earlier and I guess Hampton is going to be on or off - no middle ground and UH is going to be able to gut victories out when they do not play well. If this is the a true reflection of the teams, then neither are going far this year.

As for all the UH talk...they do talk, but some of those kids have been pushed around for years and maybe they think this is their year...not sure, but I would love to see them hit on all cylinders one night and keep the extra stuff to a minimum.

Hampton just looks young - maybe they pull it all together later in the season, but last night was not great.
