Mike didn't step down he was fired after going 4-6 in 06 and missing the play-offs. Greeneville didn't go wrong with Hiring McCurry and a reason the Culture changed. I was there during the transitions and the weight room was redone under McCurry, Devil Camp was started under McCurry, Football Period was started under McCurry. If you believe that Greeneville wouldn't have made some championship runs under him you are not that close to the program. McCurry ran the D and Ballard ran the O.
I’m not saying that at all, and I didn’t say zeller stepped down atleast I don’t think I did and if I did I apologize
And I was there as well during the transition but I was only there for one year of the transition

I don't get the last part of your post? It took 2 years to get the right hire the last time a long time coach stepped down? Sorrell's was the last long time coach that stepped down......
Mike Zeller was there for 8 years and I was counting that as long term but you’re right definitely not as long as Sorrells

You do realize Ballard is still Assistant AD and involved in this process. I would think he knows the current coaching staff's opinions better than anyone here.
Well I know the exact 7 people that was on the hiring committee and Ballard wasn’t one of them but the good news is it took 2 years to get the right hire the last time a long time head coach stepped down

Lawdy Lawdy .... Just cause your “guy” didn’t get it let’s stay calm (lol). Go Devils!
You’re right, just think this hire shows the administration doesn’t care about their for head coach and current coaching staffs opinion on the hire but you’re right the sun will still rise in the morning

Don't know about the rest of your statement but your not correct about them starting at the same time. Hammonds started coaching at Greeneville on 05 and Spradlen started in 07 as the DB's Coach
You’re right Baugh and spradlin started coaching at the same time, thank you for the correction on that

Wasn’t it Hammond’s making the defense calls/adjustments behind the seems in the end anyhow??? Does anyone know How long has Hammonds been around/involved in Football? Doesn’t he have more experience overall then Spradlin???
They both started the same time at Greeneville then Hammonds quit 2 years ago cause he was tired of the administration and thought he was gonna get the head coaching job at Gat-Pit but didn’t even get an interview
Thrn came back as a position coach who didn’t even show up for AM or PM workouts during spring training last year and who also threatened to quit before the head coaching position came open this year

Who else is Outsiders?
Wes Jones eliminated?
Keeping in house seemed like the right answer. However, does not seem like that guy is in the room or applied, if it is taking this long.
Hammonds got the head coaching position, he should be thankful for the quillens private meeting with Starnes about a new press box

Not a good hire.
Shocked!
The good thing for Greeneville is atleast they’ll be getting a new press box since they chose to go with Hammonds

I believe Spradlin was the first choice and the best choice in house.
I’d argue the case that he was possibly the best hire in house or out

I would be shocked if they picked Hammonds over Cody Baugh
I felt the same way and I could be totally wrong, and as much as I hope I’m wrong in saying this but be prepared to be shocked

Who was the first choice?? and who all applied for the job
I think the first choice was Spradlin
Cody Baugh, Dan Hammonds, Nick Craney, and Wes Jones was the four that applied for it

More than likely it was a tough decision since the first choice didn’t apply. I personally don’t see it being Hammonds.
Unfortunately I think it is Hammonds

Sounds like, the “right people” will leave or stay... either way. If there is that much drama involved with hiring “the one person from within who applied”... that’s definitely not a good thing. You’re either bought into the Greeneville Football Program or you’re not.
It’s pretty simple. GHS football will continue...with or without any of the people that are “considering” leaving or staying based on a decision they do or don’t like.
I think it has more to do with Hammonds leaving before for a job he didn’t even get and someone else worried about being demoted cause Hammonds is gonna run his defense his way, has nothing to do with the culture. But that’s just my opinion

Green2green you say your word doesn’t mean anything but you sure do seem to know a lot. Who do you think will get the position from the outside then?
Now that I really don’t know cause they’ve kept this whole process very quite, but I have multiple opinions on how I think they could go
They could go with experience and as long as they don’t look into his past before he became the head coach at Hardin Valley, they’ll go with Wes Jones
If they go with who I think would be best for the program as far as keeping most of the coaches on staff, head coaching experience, offensive minded, ties for many years at Greeneville then they’ll go with Baugh
Or if they’re not looking at having to fill a teaching position and not worried about filling other coaching positions then they’ll hire Hammonds
As far as Craney I think at this time he’s too young
Now all of this is just my opinion and I don’t know anything for certain, but in my opinion your best hire would be Baugh and your worst hire would be Hammonds

If they hire OUTSIDE there will be multiple coaches leave!
I’d be willing to bet they would lose less if they hire outside then if they did hiring the one guy that applied in house

Promote from within ? This was one of the most impressive High School Teams I have seen ...
I know my word doesn’t mean anything to you all on here but I promise you if they hire within their will be multiple coaches leave

Has anyone heard how any of the interviews went?

I agree, HTV didn’t think his last post all the way through

There could definitely be a possibility of resentment there but Hammond's was the D Coordinator before Spradlen and took the Job at Gatlinburg Pittman when they told him he would get the head gig after Benny Hammonds retired and they hire Rang instead. I get it though.
Jones is the Head Coach at Hardin Valley and has always been their coach since HVA opened.
I kind of know who he was but nothing that probably should be shared on here if you get me

That who i figured with HTV's hint. Craney is a great young Defensive mind football coach and was a great player, but i don't know how the coaching staff would take it since Hammonds was his D Coordinator, Spradlen a DB coach, and Bentley the O-Line Coach when he played at Greeneville.
That’s why I also think Hammond’s won’t be a good fit with spradlin being the defensive coordinator now, also even though I do think craney is very football smart, I think he is still too young.
And I have no clue about the jones guy

You seem to have the inside Scoop, care to mention names? I'm guess Baugh and Hammonds are 2 out of the 4.
Craney and Jones

Everyone expects them to hire from within. Outsiders probably don’t want to follow Ballard as the expectations are set high.
I think with spradlin not applying and not in the running I don’t see them hiring within nor do I think it’s a good idea

How big is the pool of candidates? I assumed they would interview all of them if the names were only 4-6 that applied
I think 4 applied

You’re probably right I don’t know as much as I know about the program, just seems odd to me that Ballard was a reference for only one coach that applied and that coach didn’t get the job but you’re right his input was used very heavily in the decision making
