1. Elizabethton is E-town. I was just a little upset when I posted that but it is true. Their coaching staff should have called their fans down but instead they let them disrupt the matches. The disrespect for other teams have me wondering why I even go up there. It just amazed me how many times I saw bad calls. Where was the TSSAA and why didn't they have something to say when this was going on? Makes you wonder. OH well the big e lost my respect and worst of all they lost a loyal fan.

  2. Tonight I watched the districts at E town. I only have one thing to say after staying quiet all season. SHAME ON YOU E TOWN. I expected much better than the unsportman like preformance that I saw. Bad calls and scraming by your fans where out of line. I backed you last year but this wasn't right.

  3. First off I would like to post that the Brumits are awesome players and are probably going to become even better during their high school careers.  doubleplay96 I think you need to educate yourself on the game of tennis.  It comes down to who brings their game and wins.  My second comment is for highcountry_40 not every high school team consists of "high country" club players and exchange students from Thailand.  I cannot speak for every high school but I do know the current situation of Volunteer.  Many of the players are multi-athletes and have picked up tennis as a second or third sport.  And they are doing an awesome job!  As a volunteer tennis fan and experienced college player I have personally seen many of the boys improve over the year (some have only played a year.)  I read your opinion that all teams "except one" suffer from "just bad coaching".  Well coming on a Volunteer message board and posting that has made a personal attack against Volunteer's coaching staff.  You are wrong.  If you had watched the boys grow in their game you would be able to see that they are being taught the fundamentals of tennis.  The coach teaches the basics. I don't need to name them off since you already know "the basics".  How arrogant to judge any high school player or any coach!

Arrogant? No just seen to much here. You have to admit we are on the bottom of the money pole. Its not the players or in most cases the coaches but a lack of funds to hire trainers and yes even coaches in some cases. Example- I know of a coach in this district that was tough by their plays. I'm not judging just watching the game and the kids. My wish is they had the equal funds as the bigger scholls just to see their progress.

  4. Just wanted to say that even though James Cox lost in the semifinals of the District, he is still an awesome young man. He called one of his own shots out in the match with Chris Brumit. James has won the respect of tennis fans throughout the region and I'm so glad Johnson County has a fine person like him on their tennis team.

This Cox kid is one of the best natural, untrained players I have seen. Its just to bad the county doesn't put money behind their team. If these kids had a good coach and trainer he....meaning Cox... would be the best player there and headed to state. Its really a shame the people in JC must fight from the bottom because of money or should I say the lack of and concern for this sport. He was my pick to take this district but theres always next year. As for Chris Brumit... Good showing young man. Your the next number one if this district. We'll be watching you.

  5. Well today I was disapointed and at the same time surpised. I watched what will be the next great player from this district. My pick for the district champ was beaten by a young Chris Brumit. This kid is the real deal and for the first time in many years I'm sending out a nick name for all those who must play this kid in the furture. The C-FACTOR is here. With what I saw today, this young man will be the one to beat next year. WATCH OUT CURTIS.

    District 1A/AA winers are

    1. Brumit ETOWN

    2. Brumit ETOWN

    3. Cox J County

  6. Well good for brummit. I talked to Trey again today and he said and i quote " i dont know what it is but whenever i see that pencil neck on the other side of the net i cant help but laugh...i think thats why i play so bad against him" HAHA good luck in the tourny

    825665103

What is this.......You can't beat either of the brumits.

I just came from your district games and the rank goes

    1...Brumit Etow

2...and folks this was a BIG surprise. Brumit Etown

    3...Cox Johnson County

Queston for you? What happened to Trey and don't give me any bad draw excuse.

  7. Well Trey remains undefeated with a victory over some dude from North. Way to go Trey!

    825651771

Trey will lose when he comes to big E. I have watched him play a couple times but he will lose if he plays any of the first liners in this district and even the 2nd and 3rd from big E. I.m not trying to cut him down but can see the talent stacked aginst him. Even Clark is much better. Someone made the remark that the coach had something aginst him but I just don't see it. What I have seen is the lack of fundamentals of the game from all the teams this year except maybe one. This isn't a player problem but "just bad coaching". Theres a few who would be much better if only the fundamentals of the game were drilled in deep. Most of the players we have seen this year lack basic's such as planting your feet, driving through the ball and using their heads.

  8. As I said, Big E will win as a team. Brumit looked good for the first time this year. Speed is much better and looks in good form. As for Cox, he looked slow and slugish.

2nd meeting of these two was much better. Cox looked like his game is coming to him. Brumit looked good but let Cox get to him. Great match boys. See you at Districts.

Amanda Pike we will see you at districts for sure. Form, footing, serve was better than I expected. Great job. Play your game and we will see you at state for sure.

  9. As a team, big E will win but theres 2 matches that might be good. Top seeds in the singles are matched up very well. I watched these two play this year and their both good. One of these will take the district but both looked a little off their games with Central. Brumit wasn't even close to his speed of last year and Cox acts as thou he's walking on glass. Foot work is off. As for the top girls, Pike will win but it might be fun watching the new kid at JC.

  10. I don't know of any at central, but I read about this one the other day,and I had to say it.This one soccer coach at a highschool is getting sued for licking the blood of one of his players' wounds

    825635847

Heres one for you. Back in my day the schools ordered their own tops and bottoms. There wasn't any one company or companys so most just looked at how much for what and thats the way they went. Our coach ordered our pants from who knows where. We got them onr day of our first match-up. My first match told the whole tall. I went up to serve but my pants wasn't ready. I got the ace and on-lookers got an eye full.

We later found out the bottoms were to have support strings. Thats why they were so cheap.

  11. It'll be tough for St.Louis to be as competitive as people are picking him to be.He plays football and basketball so is taken up all year until tennis and hasn't had time to practice.I don't think he is even the best player on central anymore.I think once he gets back into the flow of the game and gets his practice in he might be where you are predicting him to be,but until then he might only be playing 5 or 6 or maybe just on doubles.

    825615812

In a lot aways I agree with you. I watched him play the other day. His Mind isn't in the game or somethings not there yet. But as I said before even with him playing all the time I'm still looking at 2 years for his game to come to him. He should still be fun to watch and that's the best part of this game. I have to say Centrals first seed impressed me. Brumit isn't a pushover but this kid put up a great fight aginst him. Better than we expected by far. Will have to watch this young man the rest of the year. Wonderful Surprise

  12. The JCHS Girls should be better this year. Mandy Howard and Katie Sluder are back, but the girl to watch out for is a new senior named Amy Shutt. She's been playing for four months and should be the No. 1 seed. I can't wait to see her play. Amy is a good kid and I hope she can have some success after having her volleyball season cut short due to an injury. Understand that there will be a preview on the tennis team in this week's Tomahawk.

    825616192

Thank you for the info. We will be watching them. Where is this News paper if you don't mind me asking?

  13. In district 1A-AA, is Sullivan Central, Sullivan North, Volunteer, Johnson County, Unicoi, and Elizabethon. If anybody has any comments about these teams, do so and comment.

    825601774

I did have question for Johnson County. answer here if you like. Have heard nothing of your girls team for the upcoming year. How about filling me in.

  14. The schools that are in this districts are Johnson, Unicoi, Volunteer, Elizabethon, Sullivan Central, Sullivan North.

    825607627

Personal I have enjoyed what i have seen here over the past 8 years. Not just from 1A/AA but from DB, Science Hill, Gatlinburg Pitman, to Greenville. You are in a great are for tennis and have had so many outstanding players. I Guess what amazes me about this area the most is Unicoi and Johnson Countys. These two compete with the big boy and win with less money and equment. One of these i see making it to state this year in singles. All I wiil say is your in a good area just don't give up and regruit new blood.

  15. i agree.... even though we (dobyns bennett) lost #5 on our guys team (he moved back to India) i think we are still one of the greatest teams out there, and no i am not bragging.  I have played against the top 5 guys in gym (i dont play alot cause i stink at it) but all i can say is WOW... and i've played w/ the top girls too.  We definately have a great team this year and i think we will go all the way.

    825614043

Wow this is a one big loaded question. DB is there as always by theres always that surprise or even two. Heres one for you to look at. Check out a young hitter from science hill. He and the team look surprisingly good. Cought me off guard. But I'm still not sure their for real....yet. I have a few friends looking at the west and med to see whats there. Well let you know what they think. as if it matters.

  16. In district 1A-AA, is Sullivan Central, Sullivan North, Volunteer, Johnson County, Unicoi, and Elizabethon. If anybody has any comments about these teams, do so and comment.

This district will be dominated for the next two years by two east Tennessee's son's.

    Curtis Brumit of Elizabethon.

    James Cox of Johnson County.

Both very capable of winning the title. This will be a very exciting two years know matter who wins we the public will win because we are the ones who in years to come can say " I was there, I saw it.". As for the girls the Elizabethon girls team looks good as always. I see state again for their first seed.

My wish list for Upper east Tennessee schools 1A/AA More Money in tennis programs would find those great players we need and they are here. More money meaning corporate involvement into the sport and schools.

  17. I'm trying to remember if Clark is still there. I don't have my notes here. If he is then Vanzant would be 2nd behind Clark. I think I have the names mixed up so I'm not going to say anything else about this untill i check this out.

    825612844

After checking my notes this morning I having A. Clark as #1 in your school. Not Vanzant. Sorry my mistake. That would make it Cox, Brumit, Clark as the top 3 with St. louis the runer up to 3 a tight one if he pans out the way i see it. But there is the the youth factor. his age may lose matches for him. We will see. Season starts Tue.

  18. Who do you think will win between these 2 good teams??

    825611707

Teams? No contest at all son. Elizabethon will win big. On the other hand. The top seads, boys. Theres a dog fight coming. Cox and Brumit will fight it out and I hope it be different from last years finals. Both fresh and I beleave Brumit will fall as long as Cox plays his game. I watched Brumit last year and he has truble handling power coming at him after he tires so i'm watching for Cox to take him out in the later sets just like he did to wellinfor last year.

  19. Vanzant for Confrence MVP of the Watauga

    825612010

I'm trying to remember if Clark is still there. I don't have my notes here. If he is then Vanzant would be 2nd behind Clark. I think I have the names mixed up so I'm not going to say anything else about this untill i check this out.

  20. highcountry_40 what scool are you talking about

    825606611

upper east Tennessee schools as a whole. No one school. There are 5 of us old players that run around and try to keep up with the local schools and watch them them play when we can. I live in Church Hill and and watch all the way to Johnson Co. 4 countys in all.

  21. James Cox, Johnson County. Will be a good challenge to Curtis Brumit from Elizabethton in District 1-A/AA. By the way, this is the first I've heard of the Central kid. How good is he?

    825590432

Lets talk tennis...To many here talk from school spirit and not talent. After watching most of these players last year I have added players on a watch list for the upcome season.

Curtis Brumit....Cool head under pressure. Knows the game and uses it to his advantage. My ranking for this player is #2 with a possible 1 in the east. Couching staft ranked #1

Trey Vanzant.... Been around and knows his game. His speed is in question and that drops him in my poll to 3rd or 4th. Couching staft ranked 8th

James Cox...Speed, power and endurance. Best backhand in the east with a power serve. My ranking for this player is #1 as long as he stays consistent and plays his game. Couching staft ranking..7th

C St.louis....Will be the best in a couple years in the east. Not much known about his game but will be fun to watch. Could be state bound by his junior year but will have competition from the newest Brumit. My ranking for this player 4th with a chance of 3rd behind C. Brumit and J. Cox. Couching staft ranked 3rd.

My outlook for this year is simple.

Cox will take 1 as long as he stays consistent in his game without losing his power and head at times. Play your game and stay with it. With be watching for him at state.

Brumit will be tough. He's #1 if he picks up his speed. Will also see him at the top.

Vanzant will play his game but to slow for Cox and Brumit.

St.louis...will be watching your game this year. Don't rely on your foot speed but stay in your game.
