So who do they hire to get the kids involved?

Apparently Parsons was the guy. Had the kids involved, brought in a big freshman class due to having an AAU team with his feeder schools. I don’t think Rudesill ever did anything like that. It sounds like Bolivar made a huge mistake letting him go. I just wonder who ends up taking it over.

Hear it was another situation similar to JCM, irreconcilable differences.

Was told by Berkley at Middleton that the new superintendent was going to make him teach at Middleton High School for a little over half the day and drive back to Bolivar to coach in the late afternoon. Why on Earth would you want a head basketball coach to do that?

  3. I don’t see Rudesill leaving JCM. I would say if they are going for experience that theyd go with Reed or Forsythe, Parsons could be an option especially with what he’s done with the middle school players already with Bolivars feeder schools and getting those girls playing spring ball together. He has shown that he grinds and works hard, but I very easily could see them hiring from within like the boys position. It will definitely be an interesting hire and one that many people will have their eye on. HC has a good group of incoming freshmen and another good class behind them.

  4. The name Brian Reed is coming up a lot. Currently one of the middle school coaches at the private school in Savannah. He coached both south teams in the WTN Middle School All Star games and from what I’ve heard is a very solid coach.

The new girls coach at Bolivar (Rob Parson) is from Hardin County and had a successful year there, took them from a 5-16 record to a 17-12 record, lost by 3 points to Scotts Hill in the region semis, Scotts Hill ended up going to the state tournament. Would he leave to go back to Savannah?

TCA returns all but one player from last year's first round state tournament team. To me, they easily have the toughest non-district schedule in West Tennessee.

    Two games against Greenfield

One game each against South Side, Gibson County, and McKenzie.

They may come out of those games battered and bruised, but they will be a force in region play and beyond.

I'll throw someone else out there. Bolivar Central. Apparently the new coach can really coach. 25 point victory over Haywood at Haywood in their debut. They play Fayette Ware twice, Southside twice, Hardin County twice, and Chester County Twice in non district, all AAA schools.

  6. I’m hearing that Dyersburg will be hiring Coach Strayhorn who is one of the county middle school’s boys and girls coach. I know he was an assistant at Dyer County for awhile under McCord, I bet McCord will be mad about that especially if they are in the same district and competing for the same kids.

USJ and Dyersburg is not a better job than South Gibson in my opinion. It may be a little more money but that’s it...

Dyersburg is a rebuild situation. USJ is out of Jones sisters, don’t offer financial aid to athletes. Webb (Bell Buckle) is about to be really good in Division II-A for the next few years, going to be hard to beat for a state championship.

South Gibson is young with talent. Only district competition is South Side. They have a chance to be in sub-state next year for the first time in school history. They have a great middle school program/situation. A thriving community.... South Gibson may not be as talented as what Summertown was this last year, but she will establish her system at South Gibson and win big.

They lost to Haywood in a substate game back 5-6 years ago. Check your history sir.

If you want quality coaches, you have to pay what it will take to get them there. South Gibson is figuring this out the hard way...

I think there’s some quality coaches who have interviewed there already. Maybe they are wanting someone with a lot of experience and they’re trying to hold out for that? I know of 2 people who are assistants who have interviewed there, one of whom has been named in this thread, who would be a quality head coach at South Gibson.

It's hard to believe that some of these programs have had vacancies since March. Maybe they don't value their programs or the work needed during the off-season.

I can’t believe South Gibson hasn’t made a hire yet. Sounds like the coaches with head coaching experience are holding out for a bigger job (USJ, Bolivar, etc). They need to go on to the next person and pull the trigger on a quality candidate.

Sort of feels like JCM is the only school that they really care about. Dancy would have been a great hire with plenty of credibility to rejuvenate the program...maybe they didn't want "competition" for the athletes in the area.

See I disagree. I don’t think Dancy is a very good coach in my opinion. Let’s call a duck a duck here. He went to the state tournament at Haywood with athletes. He went to Milan where he had some good athletes and had the potential to win games and he didn’t. Instead he blew up on the kids, would call 4 timeouts in the first quarter and go nuts. He didn’t believe in freshman games or a big jv schedule. How do you get better in that atmosphere? You don’t!

He will have to do more than have a full summer. Every HS I know of has a full summer when allowed. He will have to play spring ball and have camps for his feeder programs and play days for them. They need a high energy coach to change the culture.

I completely agree, but we are past spring ball at this point. If there’s not a hire till May then a full summer will be what is needed this summer. 10 days of camps and playdays, playing as many games as possible, practices, working with the middle school coach. Having the kids play in a fall league and setting up a league for his feeder system. There’s a lot of things that need to be in place for whoever gets the job if they want to do it right!

Hard to really tell. Coached at UTM for a few years but didn't have a good record there. Has bounced around a few high schools since. Not sure who all applied, so that always makes it tough to tell too.

I think the middle school coach at Milan really deserved the position. He does a good with that middle school program over there, knows the kids better than anyone else, and seems to get the most out of them. Really hard to believe that he wasn’t hired!

I have heard what the comments are about, which is why I have passed my judgement on it. However, I've been very clear that his comments didn't justify assault. My hope is DC admin will take a serious look into his words and actions, and not just sweep it under the rug.

Can you share with us the facts of what the comments were about? I have read the police reports and have read the TSSAA letters that show hard concrete factual information. It’s already been proven that there was no contact between Shields and McCord. The video footage from Arlington High School showed that. The facts that we do know. We know who the attacker was and his relationship with Shields. We know that several players were involved with the incident as either a bystander, as someone enticing the violence, or by being in the getaway car. I’ve also seen Shields statements by the police where she contradicts herself. She started out saying her son wasn’t there and then he left early etc, and then saying this is my only son and he didn’t do this. When in reality that was not the case. She started out with the whole thing not being truthful. And then her son gets arrested the next day and was charged with assault which from what I’m reading and seeing in reports will probably go to assault with a weapon. These are FACTS. But I would love to hear these statements from McCord that were said and I would like to know how that you know these are facts and not a 14 year olds spun words to Shields, who could have spun them to her players and family. Have you ever played the game where you put everyone in a line and you tell a one sentence story. And you tell the next person the story one time and then it trickles down to the next person. Have you seen how much changes between person to person when the first knows the truth and then the last person tells something completely different. Could be the same case here. All I know is the facts of the situation. All I know is a man has been hospitalized and not working and he is being viewed as the problem and the person who did everything. And please tell me why Shields son and family members started this whole thing and justify their actions. You can’t do it! It sucks for the girls and I totally agree with that, but the actions of their leader and the actions of a few on the team are going to cost them their season. It sucks but it’s life. You have consequences for your actions.

and it’s funny how people from Arlington are making accounts just to say “positive things” about Coach Shields. I’ve always thought she was a great person and could be a great role model to the girls of Memphis. But her actions on this incident and her actions with the incident that occurred at Dyer County with her profanity and allowing her players to cuss the Dyer county players and staff was uncalled for. As you saw in the videos earlier she was accessed a technical foul and never sat down the rest of the game, she should have been tossed in the 3rd quarter. There’s no doubt that she is a good coach but she has to learn to cool her jets when it comes to her actions

Social media had nothing to do with it. The player standing up for Shields and getting kicked out of practice is a fact. That was a phone call to Shields not social media.  So how was it planned? How do you know it was planned?  It was fueled by McCord talking crap. Simple as that.  He got his butt handed to him on a silver player and got out coached.

Are you sure this is fact and not hearsay? I’m pretty sure that now that their season is over there is no practice, and if McCord is hurt as bad as everyone says with a concussion and all, I doubt he’s even at school.

  15. 1 hour ago, SkyCrush said:

Totally the truth. Quit trying to hide the truth. It’s no secret McCord has a bad attitude and thinks he can do no wrong.

So the son admits that he did it and he admits that it wasn’t over things that were said during the week that lead up to the game between the DC staff and their players. Therefore, nothing was said to Shields. From my perspective there was no altercation or exchange of words at Arlington high school that night. The report says that Shields’ son, was caught on camera changing clothes to all black and shows him waiting for the DC crowd to leave. It is on record that it took the DC fans, players, and coaches over a half hour to leave the locker room and gym. This proves that it was premeditated. Also the report states that the son ran towards the DC group after they had walked outside so he was running at them from behind. No doubt in my mind that he did this and had bad intentions for hours maybe even days prior. Also in the police report it says that the tag number of the getaway car for the son was given to the authorities, and it came back as one of the Arlington players and several of them were identified as being at the scene and fleeing in this vehicle. You have to remember this was done with a group of around 30-40 people, so there were a lot of eye witnesses. You can spin this as much as you want, and it sucks that it happened and that the girls can take continue on, but Arlington needs to look at its leadership. This is the 2nd occurrence that had to do with fighting. Also Arlington was popped twice for playing 2 ineligible players. One from MS and one from a private school. Maybe Shields isn’t the answer and they need to part ways with her. That seems like the best play for AHS. I hate it for their girls though, but you have to lay the blame on their leadership.

Arlington out.  Done for the season.

Commercial just posted that Arlington has been removed from the playoffs. Collierville goes straight to state. Hardin County wins their region and plays Houston.

Do you think the state should push Dyer County through to play Collierville?

Bad situation for sure. Personally don’t see how TSSAA could penalize players unless they have solid proof there was a connection. Will be interesting how this unfolds. They play tomm. night I would bet.

I’ve heard that one of their player drove the boy who attacked McCord away and that several other Arlington players were enticing the fighting. It was said that several girl players were with the men who approached the Dyer county group where the minor physically assaulted McCord

Agreed bad situation. There will be more to come to light on this matter. I do t even have a dog in the fight but I do know the Dyer county coach is a prick along with his bald headed ast coach..  They are two ego maniacs..

They have made up so many stories from the first game they played at Dyers county.  Their fans were threatening the Arlington team and the Dyers police had to escort Arlington out.  The whole week before they played last night. The Dyers head coach was talking trash about Coach Shields. So bad that one of their players stood up for her and he kicked her out of practice  They wrote a article of lies in their news paper about how Arlington did this and that. When their fans were way out of line...

Way to join 45 minutes ago and make an argument about this. No matter how much you want to cover it up or try to justify anything. This should have never happened to McCord whether you like him or not. And the fact that it was coach Shields son is unacceptable. She is liable, Arlington high school is liable, and the TSSAA should be liable. I’d hate to be Chris Duncan right now. If he doesn’t play this the right way, I here that he may lose his job.
