  1. Mosely, IMO, is worth more than 10 points in a D2A game.  Just look at what he did in the first quarter alone. If he stayed in the game, JC wins by 1 or 2 scores.   TCA is also a very good team this year.  If Mosely is out, I think TCA could make a run this year.  D2A is pretty soft this year, so one of these teams likely goes all the way.  JC with Mosely, TCA if he is out.  JMO.

Underachieved? Man, every school not named Alcoa or South Pittsburgh would love to underachieve like the Huntingdon Mustangs have over the last 8 or 9 years. Does the Mustangs expect to play in a State Championship every season, yes. That’s what they expect here. I get tired of people saying they can’t win in the playoffs. Here is who put Huntingdon out of the playoffs the last 9 years:

    14-15 Peabody- Won State Championship

    15-16 NCS- Won State Championship

16-17 NCS- Won by 1 point

17-18 Cornersville- beat Huntingdon in 2 OT-1 point-Lost State Championship

18-19 Cornersville- beat Huntingdon by 1 TD- Lost State Championship by 1 point

19-20 Lake Co- Won State Championship

    20-21- Moore Co

21-22 MAHS- beat Huntingdon by 1 point

    22-23 Riverside- Lost State Championship

so in 6 of the last 9 years Huntingdon lost to teams that played in the State Championship game. Not too bad I’d say.

so you are saying that Huntingdon is a great Bridesmaid?

Point of Emphasis this year concerning eye black:  There are existing sportsmanship rules available to mitigate any use of eye black (in any version) in an inappropriate or unfavorable way.  So for the most part keep it straight across under the eye and not smeared down the cheek.

Somebody has waaaaay too much time on their hands if a "point of emphasis" in HS baseball is now going to be if you wear eye black properly.  Really??  Somebody trying to keep their job relevant maybe?  Either way, dumb and pointless idea.

I wish we were in the A division. Our season is over tonight at CPA. We are going to finish 7-4. We finished 7-4 with Sir Cardinal Cardwrong in 2016 and a first round exit. Then we finished 8-3 with Jeremiah Boskow in 2019 ad a first round exit. Will we ever get past the first round again? I am a Rankin fan but I expected so much more from this season on Buccaneer Drive. To say I am disappointed is the understatement of the year.

Why do you assume you will lose tonight against Boyd Buchanon?  Didn't ya'll beat Oakland earlier?

I honestly cannot tell if you are being serious. If Alabama goes undefeated in the SEC and loses three non-conference games, then they are still making the SEC championship game, which is directly related to how many SEC games they win. Much like how making the TSSAA playoffs is directly related to how many games you win in your region.

The college football playoffs is not even close to a good comparison here.

"I can explain it to you, but I can't make you understand it".  I wasn't talking about the SEC Championship.  What do you think is more important to them, the SEC Championship or the National Championship?  In my example, with 3 losses, Alabama does NOT make the playoffs or get to play for a National Championship.  If that doesn't make sense to you, then nothing will.  Playoffs in high school SHOULD mean something like it did back in the day.  Today making the playoffs means nothing.  Congrats!

.500 in region play? Absolutely, can totally get behind that. Fail to see how a team's games outside of region should affect their playoff standing, though.

The same way it affects college and pro teams.  Your overall record should mean something.  If Alabama goes undefeated in the SEC but loses 3 non conference games, are they making the playoffs?  No.  That doesn't mean you can't lose a few games to better teams, but it does mean you should win the games you should win.  If you don't OR if you just aren't quite good enough to win 50% of your games....you don't make the playoffs that year.  Pretty simple and rewarding if you make it.

The one thing the playoff system needs is to not allow teams that are 4-6 or worse to go to the playoffs.  It makes week 1 of the playoffs very boring and meaningless as well as the better team risking a crucial injury in a game that should never have been played.

I think you should have to be .500 or better to play a playoff game.  It needs to mean something.....

  8. Halls hasn't beat anybody that is even considered decent and lost to a few teams that are average at best.  MASE "might" be the real deal, but they haven't played anybody either.  MASE by a bunch, but neither will be taking home a gold ball in December.

TCA at Union City By The Numbers

Friday will mark the 7th time in history that these two teams have met in football. Here is a look back at each game in this series by the numbers.

First TCA win was in 2007 during the first round of the playoffs in Union City by a score of 42-0. The second meeting between the 2 teams took place in 2009 in a game that was played at TCA and won by the Lions 31-21. That was the last loss of the year for UC as they went on to win a state title while TCA missed getting in the show. The 2010 game at Union City saw the Lions win 21-15. TCA lost in the 2A state championship to Signal Mountain with a roster of less than 25 players.

The series took a break until 2017 when the two teams met at TCA and UC scored their first victory in the series winning 49-31. Union City went on to win a state title that year. 2018 saw the Lions travel to UC and drop a brutally physical game by the score of 14-6 as UC advanced to the quarter-finals that year. After a two year hiatus, the two teams met again at TCA and those Tornados blew out of town with a 28-20 win during the "inadvertent whistle game" which cost TCA a touchdown as they were crossing the goal line. The "inadvertant whistle" blew on or about the 20 yard line on the UC side of the field.

UC should be the favorite in Friday's game. That is without question. However, 3 of the last 4 meetings have been decided by 8 points or less. One thing is for sure, a team with some purple in their uniforms will win come Friday night.  Hoping most of all for an injury free game between both teams.

History won't mean a thing in this one.  UC by as many as they want.

You might want to come to McClellan road more often.  You have never seen 5th and 6th grade kids light up because a high school football player comes to watch them play.  Get a scouting report of who will be the future stars from the tackle football games in the end zone on Friday nights.

My son wore the blue just like I did and his uncle did.  He graduated with multiple kids that their fathers played for USj before it was USJ.  In elementary, he had a poster of the USJ quarterback proudly hanging in his room.  So do not give me that more passion stuff.

These things you mentioned happen at MOST high school football games.  Nothing unique on McClellan rd.

  11. I've seen USJ play this year, have not seen JCS play this year.  USJ is strong on both sides of the ball.  People on here picking JCS may know something I don't, but I don't see this game even being that close.  I got USJ by at least 2 TD's.

Talked to a friend who is an admin in Robertson County.  Says in the future they will go with 2 officials for basketball he thinks.  Says also for baseball and softball for non district games pretty good chance it will be 1 umpire.  Says he thinks the executive order will last thru the end of 2021.

No way that order lasts until the end of the year.  That's crazy

My 2 cents is that this year's DA team could have been in the mix in AA, though not last year's. CPA and Lipscomb both are a little bit better, but 2020 DA was that good. Frankly, when I was watching the 5A final last night I thought both DA and USJ could compete with those teams.

No way either of these teams stay within 3 scores of Oak Ridge or Summit!

TCA scored more than 22 pts twice this year while DCAs lowest scoring game was 24 where they had multiple turnovers inside their 10 and could have easily scored 40. TCA scored 14 offensive points against a very young program in Grace and DCA scored 14 in the first 2 minutes and 35 in the first half.

If TCA tries to run it they will face lots of size and physicality up the middle of DCAs defense with DL/DE/ MLB/SS that can get after offenses. Each week is different in HS games so anything is possible. Can’t really use comparative scores (Grace) when talking about the playoffs.

Having heard so much about TCA these last few years I’m looking forward to seeing them in action. Wish them and their fans safe travels.

On paper DCA is 3+ scores better than TCA.  I've just seen TCA play up or down to their competition too much not to think it will be a closer game than it should be on paper.  TCA staff will have a plan to win the game.  Of course, all depends on if TCA's kids can execute the plan.   I don't really think TCA will likely win the game, but I do think it will be closer than it should be.

Like I said in this thread DCA has three kids (270,280, 300) over 270 and another few in that 225-245 range. They all start and are strong, athletic kids. To suggest Kings won’t be ready based in size is just not a reasonable claim. Not to mention FCS had size in their game. Kings may lose this game but not because they “aren’t ready” in the OL/DL. Maybe NCS is just better?

NCS is definitely better.  East is soft this year.
