I'll take McKenzie by 2 tds. City offense plays right into the strength of McKenzie defense.

City's offense is decent.  They have scored over 575 points this season with more than 2000 yards passing and 2000+ more on the ground.  More than a dozen Tigers have scored a TD this season. I don't think that will play into the strength of ANY defense.  Even one as good as McKenzie.  Friday night will be epic.

Respect and best wishes to all!

  2. Both of these teams are quite good.  We all knew this game would happen.  I don't know which team will win any more than anyone else on CoachT does.

I can say without a doubt that this City team has speed and power.  They can tackle.  They can dominate a running offense.  The offense can run AND the passing game is great!  If all that breaks down the QB can fall forward for three yards before his knees hit the ground.  City is on a different level compared to a year ago.  They are also gritty and tough in a way that I have not seen before.

Can someone tell me how much better McKenzie is compared to last year?

What is the capacity of the stadium? Will it accomodate the crowd that is expected?

Best wishes to all.  Sincerely. It has been a fantastic season for both schools.

Two teams enter, one team advances.

    Go Tigers!

  3. I don't see how City could have kept the score down  in some of the region mismatches this year.  We have lots of kids on the team who need playing time and the chance to get personal stats and experience.  Coach Johnson is a good guy who subs his players out once he has given them the opportunity to play and reap the rewards of their work during the week.  The situation has often been that the second string has little drop off and later the freshman linemen come in fresh against tired players and dominate.  Combine that with speedy freshman skill players and the Tiger cubs start to score.  What seems intentional is in reality just a coach developing his players.  SP has had to deal with this when they have had mismatches in their region.   This is why I like the new "Mercy Rule" even though it reduces the number of plays available to sub out and develop the team.

City going to 2A for a couple of years will be good in developing the program. Region opponents should have more depth.

I kinda wish there were a way to flex on the Huntland coaches tonight without being too rough on the players.   I don't see how to do that either.  Such is life.

  4. I remember back in 2014 Huntland beat City 48-14 and announced the records they broke to the crowd at the end of the game.  It was the second varsity team we had and if memory serves correctly we only had 19 healthy kids at the time.  Huntland set the tone for our rivalry in football that evening IMO.  This week reminds me of that but the other way around.

Friday night is going to be no fun for Huntland.   Respect to the Hornet players for sticking with their team during a tough year.  Best wishes for good health to both teams.

    Go Tigers!

  5. This is about a two hour road trip going into the Central Time Zone for Red Bank.  Small variables like this make a difference. City played very poorly last year and I think the travel impacted that game.  The City Tigers had become accustomed to being the more talented team and Red Bank jumped on them.  I think City will be ready tonight and should have the advantage at home against a very talented Red Bank team.

I've also noticed that City plays way harder in the trenches this year.  I like it!

Safe travel from Red Bank to Fayetteville.  This should be a great game!

  6. I hope Cornersville fans will show up tonight.  This thread is dead and Dawg fans usually talk more good spirited trash than the average fan base.  Support your team even when the odds are long.  Any given Friday night, right?  City fans came over pretty strong when we knew it could be a long night four years ago.  It was.  We took our lumps knowing better days were ahead.   They are.  These are much better days!  GO TIGERS!

When Copper Pan was competitive it would be.  14 to 18 hours for a beat down is a long way.

I thought about that and you make a great point. Lake County has a strong program.  The counter that I thought would justify a likely mismatch is that Copper Basin has struggled to get wins.  What difference does it make if they take a loss to a great team from LC?

I have a soft spot for Copper Basin.  Fayetteville played them a few years back in the first round. The CB players were tough but there weren't many of them.  We had been in that role only a couple of years prior.  It was not a close game but the Fayetteville fans were impressed with the team and the community that drove a long way for a likely mismatch.  We liked them in much the same way we like Gordy and their fans.  Some communities just click even when you are on opposite sides of a football field.  Anyway, I think a game across the State would be cool for Copper Basin because they get to have a big game experience.  They get an event game that may have media coverage to reward them for their dedication to their team and the sport we all love.  They would also be the darling in the game as an underdog.  Sometimes underdogs pull the upset and how sweet that is!

Anyway, it's just a thought.  The big reason it would not be likely to happen is the cost of a trip like that.  $$$$$

Quick thread hijack. Tonight's middle school championship game between Forrest (7-0) and Fayetteville (6-1) will be livestreamed tonight.

Forrest won the first game soundly.  They have a great team this year.  Middle school ball can produce a steep growth curve for both of these teams with good coaching.  I've watched City improve.   It should be a dandy of a game.  Best of luck and congratulations to all the boys who get to play for the championship!  May the best team win.  Go Tigers!

  9. I'm going to go against the grain on this thread and say that I appreciate officials.  Everyone has seen a bad call or an even worse no-call in a game.  Sometimes these can influence the outcome.  It happens.  Games have been decided as a result of bias, I'm sure.  Those are the exception and not the rule.  Most contests are called in a fair manner and most officials are good folk who are undertaking a thankless task. This is my belief.  They must love the game to subject themselves to such scrutiny for little pay.  Tennessee needs more of them.  The least we can do is to trust that they are fair and that any mistakes are honest.  The upside to my strategy is that more people would want to be officials if we were all on the "be cool to officials" page.  When we have enough supply the quality of their work would increase due to competition for the job.  I'm not now nor have I ever been an official. Thoughts?
