Hats off to MC for making a game of it in the first half. #4 is a tough QB. Played with lots of pressure on him all night. PC just had too many weapons and there team speed is about as good as it gets. #7 for PC is the real deal on both sides of the ball. Not sure if anybody can matchup that's left in playoffs.

Glad I got to see this game. Wanted to see the QB duel. It did not disappoint. HC QB with 225 and 3tds. MC QB with 260 yds 3tds passing and 1 rushing. HC had a couple of turnovers and MC tailback got it going in the second half. Said earlier in the week I thought it would come down to special teams and effective runs. Thought that held true.

I've watched several of their games. You're right he's a heck of a player. They have a lot of weapons. We will have our hands full with Marshall County.
The same can be said for HC QB. He's a Mr. Football semi-finalist. I know last week against Whitehouse he made some key runs to extend drives. Should be a good matchup and will take some other kids besides both the QBs to make plays.

Pretty good haul from Marshall County to Hardin County. One of the better matchups in Round 2. Two good QBs going head to head , Hardin County QB is a polished thrower with lots of weapons , Marshall County QB is a true gamer that can spin it and is also deceptive with his running ability. Think it comes down to running game and special teams!

Pretty good first round lineup. All but the PC vs Lexington has potential to be good games.

Crazy thing is we was short handed a few starters. Everyone will be back this Friday. That 10-0 don’t mean anything anymore 0-0
Yeah that's crazy.

PC had too much speed. PC well Coached and play makers made plays and they've got a lot of them. Pearl QB had 225 yds 2 TDs 0 ints. Marshall County QB had 205 yds 1td passing and 1td rushing but had 2 picks and took quite a few big hits from #7 of PC . MC QB is as tough as they come though. PC offensive backfield is crazy talented , heck their whole team is. Could we possibly see this matchup later in the playoffs?

MC will have to play clean , mistake free football to have any chance against PC. I personally think skill for skill it's a good matchup, it's the box I'm concerned about. PC is very physical up front and they play 4 qtr football. Not sure MC has played a full 4 qtr game since early in the season.

Haven’t seen nobody more explosive than Javion Kinnard #1 for Pearl Cohn.
Region 5-4A has several kids that should be in the mix for Mr. Football . PC has 2 or 3 and Marshall County has 1. Chop is as explosive a player as anyone in the state.
-
Very similar teams. Whitehouse is a tough place to play. This one will come down to who makes less mistakes. If MC can keep getting better with special teams play this week that could also be the difference.
-
Tackling was an issue , got a lot of kids playing both ways. Still battling with a few players being out here and there. Need to work on building depth this week. And our special teams play needs to improve. Had a blocked FG and blocked punt. This schedule isn't getting any easier. Coaches need to gut check the kids and themselves if we plan on playing at a high level because we ain't playing tiddlywinks!

Not much scoring in the game but both teams I thought played very physical. Columbia is MUCH improved, especially on D. MC QB made some plays with his feet but was held in check in the pass game. Both teams lines and RBs played well. Hard fought game and both teams did a pretty good job of playing to the whistle.
-
Watched Columbia game last night. They are well coached. QB sneaky , running back good , WR good , line play pretty good, D-fense good. Very physical team. Had a couple miscues in kicking game. If they make a few little tweaks they are going to be very hard to beat. They should contend for the region.

East : Early Favorites are Greenville, Betsy , Anderson Co. in that order . All tradition rich programs that are all funded well.
West: Early Favorites are PC , Haywood, Marshall County in that order. Region 5-4a got tougher which should bode well for Pearl and Marshall County come playoff time. Marshall County opens up with a couple 5a squads out of the gate so we should know more about them after week 2.
Anxious to see if a "sleeper" or two sneaks up throughout the season and makes some waves.

Another interesting Matchup. Long ride for PC. Weather gonna be cold. I think PC matches up better defensively than Marshall County did because of D-line . PC will need to get Lexington off the field (easier said than done) and convert when they have the ball . They limited Marshall County to 6 offensive possessions total. Athletically I'll give the edge to PC overall. McLane for Lexington is tough as nails and always falls forward. I really think another 21-14 , 21-17 type game with first one to 21 winning. Definite 4 quarter game.
-
Well Lexingtons o-line leaned on MC and McClain is tough. Thought MC QB and RB did a good job with a very limited amount of possessions. Costly penalties plagued MC as well. Congrats to Lexington, looks like they'll square off next week against PC.
-
MC will need to maximize every possession. Might only see the ball on offense 3-4 times per half. MC has weapons but the running back is the key to their offense. 340 yds in the last 2 games. I think MC wins if they eliminate penalties and get Lexington in long yardage situations. Should be a good game.

Why are the public schools in other states having little difficulty playing against the private schools and Tennessee has issues? This talk began in the 1970’s when I was a public school student and it continues today. It’s much easier to complain than actually get out on the field or court and win against the private schools. The fact is that kids are kids and it has much more to do with the adults than the kids. I will say that the boarding schools do have a distinct advantage that if they elect to use that it would be difficult to overcome but not the typical private day school. With that being said if it’s a boarding school you just go and compete to find out what your weakness may be. You speak of private schools selecting their students, what do the public magnet and public charter schools do? Do the magnet and charter schools which use public tax dollars not limit their enrollment? Everyone use to complain about the open zoned public schools but the fact is that a majority of public schools are and have been open zoned or a student pays a small tuition fee (less than $1500.00) to attend if they live in another county. In closing I will say that there is absolutely zero reason that with individual championship sports (track & field, wrestling, bowling, tennis, golf, etc…) that we should ever crown more than one champion. As adults it’s our responsibility to teach children and youth how to compete both in academics, athletics and life. It’s no wonder that when these young adults go out into the real world and have to compete with individuals from all over the world for jobs they have problems and don’t think that things are fair. It’s our fault because we have allowed the public education to spread the big lie that they are not good enough to compete with anyone and everyone.
Private schools do and will continue to have the advantage. I believe it's your heart your speaking with and not your head. Yes there are as many good athletes and smart kids in public schools as there are in private schools. Where the advantage lies is funding (private donors) , less red tape from govt , much much much more is expected from the students and athlete. I could go on and on .
Also those states you mentioned have much better governing bodies in charge of athletics than we do here in TN. Tssaa is NOT good!

PC was physical on D and made plays when it counted. Marshall County hadn't played in a ball game like that yet this year. They'll learn from and move on. Good possibility they'll meet again in the playoffs.
-
Huge matchup with definite region implications. From a competition level , the Firebirds have definitely played a tougher schedule this far. I believe in order for Marshall County to win they'll have to limit mistakes and penalties and get some stops on defense early. I think the one area Marshall County has the advantage is the kicking game. Pearl is always fast and physical. Looking forward to the game.

Does weather play a factor in this matchup?

Should be an interesting matchup. Long ride from Marshall County to Creekwood. Creekwood loss to Fairview might be a bit mis-leading as they had a player or two out for that game. Creekwood has changed to more pro/spread type offense also and that usually takes a few games to get dialed in. I think Marshall gets the W but it is an interesting matchup with region implications for both teams from here on out.

36-14 Marshall County Final. Good team victory.

Scrimmage tonight at Coffee County. Good opportunity to get better and dial in a few things.
