Not really sure I’d call Jeff win an upset. They had beaten SC in regular season and have beaten DB.

By upset, I was only meaning by seeds.   My point was that all the district 2 teams are capable of winning all 4 games.  However, it tourney time so they also could lose all 4.  Should be a good night of basketball.

seen on another post that their all-state PG did not play in the districts but is expected back for the region game....not sure how accurate that is but just figured I would pass it along.

100% accurate.  He was out with Covid contact tracing.  He can play again starting Thursday.  East went   0-3 without him.  Lost to Gatlinburg last game of season and both tournament games.

The Region 1-AAA boys tournament gets underway Saturday at higher seeds.  Subsequent rounds will also be played at higher seeds this season due to COVID.  If Dobyns-Bennett and Jefferson County make the finals as the two top seeds (or Science Hill and South Doyle as the two 2 seeds, etc.) then the District 1 team will host.

    The bracket:

    • 4 Morristown East at 1 Dobyns-Bennett
    • 3 Daniel Boone at 2 South Doyle
    • 3 Sevier County at 2 Science Hill
    • 4 Volunteer at 1 Jefferson County

I will go with all the top seeds to win quarterfinals.  Boone finished last in the regular season in District 1 and should be a cupcake for South Doyle.  I am a little worried about D-B.  Morristown East won District 2 in the regular season but only finished fourth in the tournament.  Not sure if they had a couple of bad games or something else.

In the semifinals, I will go with D-B and Science Hill.

In the finals, I will go with D-B.  The Tribe are on a roll and annihilated Science Hill in the district tournament finals by 30.  This D-B team has the potential to go deep into the season with everyone back from last year's overachieving sectional appearance.  Good luck to all the schools and hope it's a fun and safe tournament.  Let the road to state begin!

Morristown East was without their All-State PG during the tournament or they would be a #1 or #2 seed. He will be back and fresh for region which makes them a dangerous team.  SC and East were both upset in semifinals.  Sevier County picked a bad night to be off on a night Jeff was hot shooting.  Jeff County is playing their best basketball of the year.  South Doyle is very athletic and can be dangerous if they play as a team.  The top 4 in district 2 as a group are better than the top 4 in district 1 as a group.  The DB-ME and SC-SH matchups were expected but not til the semifinals.  I think all games will be good games. Would not be surprised if district 2 wins 3 of the first round games.

Baffled but hey, everyone called it . I guess they will never go outside the box at SC. Maybe he’s a better HC than DC?

No surprise on the hire.  Being told that Coach Loveday will not continue to be DC as well.  He will concentrate on being HC and running the program.  He will hire a new DC. Expect a new OC as well. I would expect the staff to be shaken up.  Already rumblings that a few assistants won't be back, some by their own choice and some not asked to come back.    Lovedays first priority for the players will be a better strength and conditioning program.

When is West Ridge going to be competing and isn't there a new private school in that area?  I thought I read about one opening up. If so is that hurting SC?

West Ridge scheduled to open this fall.  Lakeway Christian is new private school in White Pine in Jeff County.  It looks like a small college.  SC lost a girls basketball freshman to them but that is all so far. She is a really good player which would have helped SC, from what I am told  Never seen her play.   I do not foresee any other sports losing kids to there unless they cant find playing time at SC.

Not really sure that makes a lot of difference.  Both teams will be playing on that grass field.  It effects both teams.

I think that grass favors Crockett.  SD playing on prob played on turf all year.  SD has more team speed.  Crocketts Prince is stud!  SD has several studs!  It should be a good game.

Looking over their roster and staff, you are correct. Loveday is the DC. The Bears had a lot of youth playing for them as well. Also on staff is a Brewer, he is the OC. Is he related to Steve Brewer? If so, will he put his name in for the job. I read a few years ago in the daily times that SC beat Maryville in the middle school championship. Is there not talent that is coming up that would make this job a little more intriguing?

Brewer won't get it.  The MS has beat Maryville middle the last 2 years for the MS championship, which does not guarantee success at HS level..  There were 25 or so freshman this year and large 8th grade class coming in.  Return large Jr class as well.  SC can put together some winning seasons.  No championships, but they can win more than they lose.   Loveday most likely gets the job.  Be interesting what staff changes, if any, he makes.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t he the DC? If so, I’m trying to understand why that hire would make any sense considering SC has been giving up 30 pts or more a game the past few years. They even tried to switch their Defense up this year and still it didn’t work. IMO, SC needs to bring in a new Coach not tied to the program. Wouldn’t hire anyone on that staff if I cared about winning...:thumb:

Agree 100% and most around the program agree with you that staff needs over haul.  You are correct, Loveday the DC.  Many agree that he will get the job but some feel that they should look outside.  From what I hear, they will be open to any applicant.  Loveday most likely gets it, even though his defense gives up almost 40 a game for 2 seasons.  Either way, "big shake up" with staff no matter who gets it, what being said.  We shall see??  If anyone on staff gets it, it will be him.  No other qualified candidates on staff.  SC had more players this year than last several years.  Only lose about 10 srs.  Couple lineman, TE, and RB.   Big JR and FR classes with big 8th class coming in.  Return almost all starters.  With new district, they should compete to make playoffs.  Beat Heritage, which is getting better, and Cocke Co.  West and Central too good.  They should compete with Halls.

Sevier Co has a stud at QB in Shannon and they have the ability to put up a lot of points. Their problem is the same as always and I’ll just be honest. Their defense is absolutely terrible. Look for this to be a high scoring game. I saw Crockett live earlier this season also, Kollie is their playmaker. Much different looking team for them than the past couple years especially at QB and WR positions. Should be a good game.

Every game SC play, they have to score near 40 to have a chance to win.  Offense can put up some numbers, but the defense gives up just as many. Crockett will probably roll in this one. SC has seen some powerful offenses plying in the region they are in.  I think Central, SD and Halls all get the wins on Friday.  SC just hopes to keep it respectful

  10. Don't know anything about DCA.  TKA is a solid team this year.  Lots of team speed.  Great skill players. 2 good QBs.  Solid line.  As with all teams in D2A, small on numbers.  Any injury hurts at multiple positions.  Had a couple out last week at Oneida from what I am told.  Also, had a kid ejected for a scuffle.  TKA may not be at full strength.

GP pretty much Dominated watched on youtube TV announcers Marty and Rob did great job. :thumb:

GP seems to have put it together since the TKA game.  Seymour is one of the worst teams I have seen.  Fortunately for them, they get to play Sevier county this week.  SC can't stop anyone defensively.  Not sure Seymour can score though.  Should be a close game between 2 bad teams.

You saying Pierce Hammonds is out :?:

I heard from someone above the tunnel that he may not be 100% and may not be ready for this game?? May just be rumor.  Best of luck to both teams.  I do not have a kid at either school.  I hope it is a good HS game.  Now that it is a Thursday night, should be a capacity crowd.

  13. I was at the TKA-Seymour game.  Seymour should have been able to wear them down, but it didn't happen.  TKA players are well conditioned.  They have a true strength and conditioning coach and I think that made a difference.  TKA has as much talent as any other HS, they just don't have the depth. Over half of the players starting have game experience playing over the last couple years.  Also, a lot of players would be starting at most schools around, so don't overlook them.   It will be interesting to see which freshman starts at QB for GP, the kid from TKA or Hammonds grandson?  There will be pressure on whichever it is.  GP better ground it out as GP has been known for, but not  having the older Hammonds in the backfield will hurt GP as well.  If TKA can stay healthy, they will play GP til the end.  However, an injury at any position will cost them since almost all kids play both ways.  TKA has 2 key players hurt that didn't get to play against Seymour.

Serious question for you. I just saw a photograph on Twitter of the TKA head coach. What is the deal with the hairdo? Looks like he's growing a horn out of his forehead with all of his hair tied up with rubber bands. Some kind of motivational tool? I've never seen anything like that and I have to admit it was a WTH moment when I saw it

That is a great question?? I have no idea what the unicorn is for.  I have been told that he will cut it off for a State Championship.

I watched the game and the officials did a great job I thought. TKA attacked and was the more aggressive team. That is the reason the foul discrepancy. I picked Goodpasture to win the game, but TKA was very impressive. Good win for TKA.

    Spot on! Impressive performance

23/40 at free throw line versus 5/7. Hmmm

Hmmmm.  Did you watch the game?  Goodpasture fouled like crazy in the 4th quarter.  Look to see how many were FT attempts were in the 4th?

TKA may not win the Championship, but then again, no one west of Knoxville gave them a chance to even get to State.  Proud for the girls.

First let me say that I like TCA to win the championship. But it will be a knock down street fight. Every game with TRA has been closer score wise than the game before it. 13, 11 and the last one by 8. I feel this one will follow that trend. But I see TCA’s depth being the key factor and they pull it out in the end. Matching up with good pasture will be tough. They shoot the 3 very well and TCA will have to get hands in faces consistently to keep Goodpasture from having a good night shooting. Goodpasture is experienced and will be a tough row to hoe but I think the Lions do it. Good luck TCA!!!

NOBODY has given The Kings Academy a chance, except those in east TN..  However, they just keep winning!  Great job ladies today in the victory over Goodpasture.

They have some good skill players on offense and will spread you out.  Their weakness is depth and size.  FCS was able to run on them.  Check their videos on MaxP website.

QB #7 missed the last 3 or 4 games due to injury.  He only played a couple series against Grace just to get some game reps.  They backups have done a fine job.  He should be back this week.  TKA has not played in 3 weeks due to bye week and first round bye.  They should be healthy and fresh.  They are capable of scoring at any moment. Weakness is defending the run due to depth.
