  1. Pretty good list! These are all good football teams! I believe I would have Covington ahead of UC and Huntingdon ( yes I am a little bias, LOL). This is simply because Covington handled the mustangs in a preseason scrimmage and though the chargers/tornadoes jamboree seemed a little tight, I believe Covington would better the tornadoes in a real game.
The Chargers lost to a REALLY GOOD Tomcat team Friday night! Covington is fast and physical but the Tomcats are just on a whole different level. HC might be the only team in Rural West TN (if not all of west tn) that could hang with them.
I do not know enough about McKenzie so I am going to respect what I read on the T about them. USJ seems to have a strong air attack (based on what I’ve read on the T) which seems to give the Chargers trouble sometimes.
Again, good list and thank you for the time and effort you put into this!!

  2. Last. night’s game definitely shows how good Haywood is! Covington is a really good football team!!!! Haywood’s defense stuffed that Covington offense and that’s not an easy task!  (Even if it is predictable)

Any team playing these two programs will have to bring their A game for sure!!

Covington will not line up and run the ball right at Haywood with any success. If that is the game plan, then Covington needs to be prepared for a long night. I suspect that will not be the game plan, but I also do not believe that Covington will be able to throw the ball with much success either. I look for this game to go much like last years contest did. Haywood big. Covington is a good team, but Haywood is better than anyone Covington has seen this year.

I agree! As bad as I want Covington to keep it close, i can't see it happening. Chargers, y'all have to be able to be balanced!! If y'all can, then the Chargers have a good chance to bring back a gold ball!!! AND I WANT THAT GOLD BALL BAD!!. If the Chargers can't be balanced, then the semis or silver ball is it.

I've said it before, these Tomcats are the real deal!!

This will be a great game tonight!!! I am pulling for both!! LOL

I think to compete in this game, Covington will need to come out with more of a balanced attack with at least 10-15 pass attempts and a strong up the middle ground and pound effort. If Covington tries to do the normal Wing-T thing, I think it could be a long night. We see the Wing-T faulter some when Covington goes up against a similar talent level, which I think Haywood has plenty of. I believe our defense will be the toughest that Haywood has faced so far, however, they will still score plenty of points. Covington needs more than 30 to win this game IMO, that'll be a tough task. Looking forward to the atmosphere and a great game. GO CHARGERS!

I agree with this post!! Yes! 10-15 pass attempts MINIMUM, with A LOT of completions. If the Chargers try to run outside using their speed, they will be surprised that Haywood's speed will match it and then some!

I love both of these teams and hope the best!! This will be a great game!!

    Go Chargers!

    Go Tomcats!!

You may very well be right. The main reason that I have Peabody ahead of Covington (and it’s only by 1 spot) is because Peabody has wins over 2 teams on this list in Westview and Lake Co. and Covington has zero wins over anyone on this list. Also I think Peabody’s offensive balance makes them more dangerous than most teams. Opponents can’t focus on just the pass or the run. But if Peabody should loss to the Mustanks this Friday Covington will move ahead of them.

I can see your point for sure!! However, I can't see Peabody's defense being strong enough to stop covington. And as much as i love my Chargers, if they don't get more balanced then a silver ball is the most they will ever get.

Please know that i respect your opinion and i do look forward to this post every week!! Thank you for putting in the work for this!! All of these teams are very good football teams!!

  6. I am  from Covington and I played for Covington. I love the Chargers deeply!! I strongly support the Tomcat’s as well because I live in Brownsville and my kids go to school here. It’s a win win game for me. LOL  This game is big for both teams for a multiple of reasons.
Covington will have a big advantage due to playing at home and the Charger fans will be loud and proud!! However I just can’t see the Chargers beating this Tomcat squad. The only chance the chargers have is to drastically increase their passing offense! Which is just not characteristic of Covington. This Tomcat team is something serious and anyone playing them better lookout! If the Chargers pull out the win, then 3A, beware!!
    Go Chargers!
    Go Tomcats!

Completely, fake news! BPM made this up a few days ago to try to get a rise out of y'all. Coach J absolutely did NOT say that.

LOL  I didn't think so! Y'all are to classy for that!!

Y'all better get there early! Going to be a big crowd tonight and i believe some of the main parking area may be taken due to homecoming tailgaters and such! The atmosphere is going to be exciting!!

I still can’t believe Coach Johnson said Haywood was soft up front like warm butter…

    Say wha huh?? HMMMMM

Guess they will see how "soft" they are tonight!!

I hope both teams leave injury free!!! Going to be a good game!!

SG fans, y'all should get there early enough to get a Stacmot milkshake from Livingston's!!

BTW, i love seeing the good sportsmanship between these two communities!!

    Safe travels!!

  9. Let's GOOOOO!!! Great night for football!!!

As long as the Tomcats play focused, I believe the Tomcats will win. No disrespect to SG, i just believe that Haywood is on a different level, even from last year. However, if the Tomcats play sloppy, SG can definitely pull the win. They play hard and won't give up.

    Tomcats 42

    SG 21

This place sure does seem to be quite. Where are the Haywood folks at??? Dang, I am a 1 man band trying to hold it down for the SGC, there are tons of Haywood posters. Y'all get fired up and share some thoughts and predictions!

We are just waiting on Friday night!!

    Go Tomcats!!!

Are you Butch Jones in disguise?

HAHA! Not at all!! But if you want to ignore the fact that Covington DID give y'all a good game that year that's fine. AND NO, i am not happy with the "close" game. I would rather have the W. As a matter of fact, I would rather Covington's first gold ball be against Alcoa. To be the best you have to beat the best.

    Go Chargers!

In reference to the title of the thread, I don't think we should say that this game is for the region championship.  If Haywood defeats SGC and Obion defeats Milan, the Haywood - Obion game would be for the region championship.  There are still a lot of ifs.

Yea we may not need to call it the region Championship yet. Lol

This should be a great game and will be the toughest test thus far. SG always plays hard! I believe the Tomcats will win but they better not let the homecoming festivities cloud their minds. The Tomcats will have to bring their A game for sure. Hoping for an injury free game!!

I think it’s well known from the locals about  our broadcasters. I personally think one of our two does his best. The other is to worried about the 60’s

Yes! Although the history is interesting, I do wish they would talk 1st half stats more during halftime or even after each quarter.
