Just wondering how that would work for this upcoming year?

An influx of an entire school?  Enrollment at MLK Prep is roughly 395.  Add that to Trezevant at roughly 541.

A 900+ enrollment school playing 2A ball this coming year?

Great questions. My guess, TSSAA wont touch it until the fall and by that time the seasons  are already in full swing. I'd bet this isnt the first time it's happened (a school closure causing an influx of students elsewhere) nor will it be the last.

This has to be a playoff figure where officials are paid mileage and aren't apart of the local association that services that school in the regular season. On Field Officials make $100 or$105 a game (I believe that's the number now, unless its changed in the last year or 2) and the official running the clock i think is at $75. In the playoffs, they get paid mileage for the distance from their home address to the school (not sure what that is but its minimal).

Now before you all go crazy and say they are making bank, consider a few things:

    1) Scrimmages and pre-season meetings (7-8 hours worth) are freebies, unless a school is nice enough to give you a little gas money, which rarely happens

    2) TSSAA plus Local Associate Dues before you can even step on the field are around $120-$130 a year.

    3) Uniform/Equipment starter kit cost $150 and most officials will spend $70-$100 a year on new shoes, shirts, pants, hats, shorts, whistles, flags,  bean bags, watches, ready refs...

...So before the season kicks off, any given official has probably worked 2-3 scrimmages/jamborees, attended free meetings and spent $200-$250+.

    4) Officials are required (Pre-Covid conditions / this year may look different) to be onsite for a Varsity Game 2 hours prior to KO, and usually don't depart until 30-45 mins after the game. Onsite Time  = roughly 5 hours

My guess is the average travel time during the season is 30-45 mins but can get up to 1-2 hours one way.

Also, alot of schools will provide a candy bar and a bottle of water, very few provide more than that.

All in all, you are looking at 6+ hours of time spent for each official to ref your game for $100 ($16.66 an hr) all the while getting verbally abused by the likes of many reading this.  Each official knows the cost going into it and voluntarily does it for the love  of the game and seeing the kids play it. So next time you say he is doing it for the Money, remember these points.

Yes i speak from experience, as i officiated 9 years and only got out when the little MVPs started arriving to this earth (5 years ago). The money isn't bad, but when you consider all the things above, it ain't great either.

Sorry, long tangent there and rant over. #Voiceofthezebras

and FYI....if you stand with me at any ballgame, you will find me screaming at the stripes too, but when i do it, they screwed something up bad. Like with anything, there are good ones and there are bad ones and just like you and I, they can have off nights. They are human! Now rant over. :thumb:

Bernard Childress, is that you? what a joke this is.... i assume you want me to give you a cookie too! No wonder TC is so good. This guy must call all their games....

It’s not 90s White House, we’ve hit a little bit of a lull, but the facilities, school, and program in general are as good as ever in my opinion.  I’m obviously biased, but I feel like there’s a lot of talent on this years team too, so idk what that guy is talking about.

It's been awhile since i've been there. Is the field still located in the same old place? Thats a pretty cool venue.

H2O will go as far as their lineman let them. I’m not sure what they are returning up front, but I know they should be loaded at the skill positions!

They also have one of the toughest if not the toughest schedule in the state in 2A.

Gordonsville right out of the gate will be a challenge, followed by Nolensville, then the sweat B’s. Could be an 0-3 start. Then we get a Dekalb team that I think will be a handful in 4A, a tough Upperman team and I suspect a much improved White House squad mixed in there somewhere!

We definitely will be tested and hopefully not beat up before the playoffs even start!

Where is the game with TC this year? Heard all about these games the last couple of years and sounds like another great one is in store. May have to make the trip West to see if the schedule allows.

Whitehouse she be on the uprise over the next 5 years due to parents moving out of metro Nashville. Only problem would be kids staying. My coworker have twin boys who are freshmen and just moved to White House BUT  refuses to let them play in the area. He hoping a curtain private takes both boys.

Wow, I remember when WH was a really good program and you wouldn't question having your kid play for them. Is this a concern with the education or the state of the program itself. Has WHH changed the Blue Devils that much? Sounds like dude is looking for better weather imo.

Great game. Was a little off but knew the Rankinites would be too much. Nice facilities btw. Cut out early but enjoyed it!

FairWeather likes the elements when they are enjoyable. I’ve got fond memories from my childhood many moons ago spent fishing and swimming from the lake dock. Because of that LC has the tip of my cap in this one. Plus I got bucked off a wild mustang last week and dang near stubbed my little toe. Turn me against em forever! (Santa’s gotta bring a new rocking horse for the youngin now)

    LC - 31

    HH - 30

Well wasn’t as close as I thought. Congrats LC!

  8. wow looks like me and my partner chose the wrong game. I told him Alcoa had it in the bag but he just had to go see their facilities. Congrats to Meigs.
