  1. Beaty is the best player in AA. Cookeville is a very good team. Would’ve like to have seen York keep attacking in the 3rd as it didn’t seem Cookeville had an answer for Beaty. I also believe York has the talent to win AA if their younger players played more aggressively on the offensive end.

Give Upperman time to get football guys in the flow and they will be tough to beat.

Uppermans’ freshman is the real deal. I’ve watched a lot of basketball and he’s the best 8th grader (last year) I’ve ever seen. He’s athletic, gifted, and extremely smart player. Upperman’s coach has already figured this out as he’s the go to (before football players got back) in clutch situations. This young man played for UA out of Nashville so obviously others have noticed. If you get a chance GO WATCH. It’s worth the price of admission.

Dragons victorious, glad to see some of our football guys back finally! Special time here in dragon land!

Shocked at how the district is shaping up, I know it's early! Smith, Watertown, and Monterey look to be struggling. I know all 3 are extremely young, but never thought Jackson would be sitting where they are right now. Will be interesting to see who gets it figured out come January. New District predictions are we at 1, Smith 2, Jackson 3, Watertown 4, Monterey 5. This is going to be a wild year within the district. York Dragons, lets ride! :)

York was victorious again tonight against clay but they appear to be without their floor general (Leffew) for the rest of the year due to a nagging football injury. It’ll be a really tall task for the dragons to win the region and make it back to the glass house without him. He’s a lot more than a pg, he’s a true competitor. Hope they do make it back (for the 4th straight year), but it’ll be a tall task without him.

  4. In Tennessee it’s so bad (need for officials) all you have to do is pay t$$aa’s fee to be an official. You don’t have to pass any test or anything (unlike Kentucky I know maybe others). In the association I officiated in, the assigning officer was the issue (reason I got out). Fans are horrible now. They feel their 3-7 dollars gives them the right to berate officials. Their 3-7 dollars gives them the right to cheer for their team/kids and that’s it.

What are the predictions for Region 3AA? This was an exciting region tournament last year.  Any chance York plays in State tourney again? Any sleepers to watch for? York unanimously the front runner (no brainer). Always enjoy watching York but How does the rest of the region look?

Personal predictions Per District and records:

District 5AA: District is full of quality coaches and players, may end up being a knockdown drag out of a Tournament

    1. York (8-0)

(returning pretty much everything, probably getting transfers as usual. A state Tourney team for sure, could there be a potential rematch between them and Westmoreland for the region title?)

    2(3). Smith (5-3)

(graduated a load, expect to see Hix improved, if he doesn't play they could finish last. Struggled to score it this summer, no true PG like recent years.)

    2(3). Watertown (5-3)

(graduated 1000pt scorer Trent Spradlin, Returning several guys. Watching them play this summer shot the ball extremely well, really missed inside presence of big guy. Did he graduate?  If not and he plays they could be a contender with their guard play this summer, Seen Goody (PG) had a good summer with some new guys in the mix. Heard they got a transfer in, Kid from Nashville Area? Could image they play with a chip on their shoulder after being doubted all year and finishing like they did.

    4. Jackson Co (2-6)

(graduating their best class I've yet to see, will struggle i could image against good guard teams. Watched them this summer, seemed extremely young. Have them finishing 4th due to player level, will be interesting to see how their coach gets them going. Heard they got a couple new kids after the summer break, typical for them??)

    5. Monterey (0-8) (losing their coach "Lynus" was a big impact. Graduating arguably the two best guards in the region, watching them this summer had spurts of playing well, but hearing turmoil took their summer, watching them seemed as if culture and attitudes were horrible.)

District 6AA: Couldn't image their being a better coach than Abner in this district.

    1. Westmoreland (6-0)

(returning Abner and their new district, should sweep it. Couldn't imagine any of the district being better than they are, Also very HUGE. Will they develop better guard play? Thought they were a for sure lock last year, guard play got them.)

    2. Liberty Creek (4-2)

(young but played hard last year in the games I watched. Coached very well, could possible sneak away with the District Title)

    3. White House Heritage (1-5)

(haven't seen them play but couldn't image them being any worse or better than Trousdale co)

    4. Trousdale Co (1-5)

(couldn't imagine them being better than liberty creek or Westmoreland. I don't know enough about white house heritage to say they are any better.

*2-4 could be a toss up, neither of the bottom 3 are very impressive or better than Westmoreland I could imagine.

York is VERY good 1-5. Desperately need some subs to step up (potential is there). Should have no issues with district (barring injuries). Region/sub- state/ state will come down to depth.

If they are cheating, like everyone’s says they are then they will be shut down and disgraced just like Tennessee Temple was. If I understand correctly, they use the same exact school, so no shame in their game I guess. It’s amazing how some people will cheat lie and steal to gain a gold ornament. I guess if they can sleep at night so can I. At the end of the day cheating gains you nothing, teaches nothing and only creates animosity and animus from others.

Sounds a lot like MAHS. Hopefully schools like this will either be made private or close altogether.

If you know me, then you know I don’t throw admiration around lightly. I’m not easily impressed. I stand by what I said. Now if you want to continue this discussion pm me and let me know who I’m talking to.

He’s a VERY good coach. He will change the culture at Smith co and he’ll attract good players. Winners follow winners and Coach Ferrell is a winner. Smith Co will be a common name in district/region championships in the near future.

Yeah JC is very balanced on Offense and work through the post way more than Monterey. No one player on JC shoots it even 25% of the time I think he (RammerJammer) meant to say Monterey because Monette is gonna jack it 30-40 times. I believe you are right about the morale aspect and by the end of the game the other team knows who’s shooting it. I’m sure he will be seeing some junk defenses dedicated solely to slowing him down in the coming weeks.

Sorry for the typo but you were right. It is the kid from Monterey. York played him straight up man and held him under 20 till the starters were pulled. He got at least nine against the subs. Reminds me of watching the kid from Cannon county last year, but according to one of their parents nobody else wanted to shoot. Might be the same situation at Monterey this year.

Not saying they aren’t… but when you’re playing teams who only score 10 points in a game you can’t really judge that. Although they played a tough schedule early on.. their last half of the season doesn’t bode well for keeping them competing and having to play hard going into tournament play.

You can’t fault them for their competition. They can only play the teams on their schedule(crucify Bradley for playing their district opponent Howard, York is no different).  They are very well coached and athletic.  We’ll see how the end of the season goes, but I’d be shocked if they don’t play in Murfreesboro and make a very deep run.

Missed a layup and got the rebound and got hacked and no call.

I hate to have to talk about refs after such a hard fought game by both teams. I am not saying they cost Huntingdon the game. Westview won the game. They just shouldn’t even be an issue. I’ve seen the animated ref several times this season. You do not want a close game down the stretch because he may do just about anything. I saw Wilkins really questioning him in the tunnel at halftime.

York is the best team in AA. They have the best player and a VERY good supporting cast. The have “enough “ bench to do what they need to. This team scores inside out and guard/post and slow down or transition/fast break. They’ll be in Murfreesboro barring key injuries and everyone will see.

JC boys beat Monterey and Tre ended up fouling out.  It was an AWESOME game!!  Proud JC Fan right here!

The kid from Jackson county shoots almost all of their shots (it’s something to see). I’ve not seen a high school team that just lets a kid shoot 80% of their shots and all of the other players and parents be ok. He can score but he needs a clear line of sight to do it. Just my .02.

I think York wins this one by 6-8 points. I believe the top 3 teams are pretty evenly matched though and could win any given night.

    1. JC

    2. York

    3. Monterey

If Monterey can get better on defense they will be a tough out. JC needs to get better on Offense, and York just needs to play a complete game on both ends.

York wins by almost 40 AT Monterey. When York gets to play fast they’re really tough to deal with.

Unruly fans caused the officials to call the game at the end of the 3rd quarter.  Officials was made out to be total idiots by one player from Monterey, they allowed him to run the floor and kept catering to him. But what's even more sad is the Monterey coach and assistant coach encouraged their players to act the way they did. The Officials couldn't control either teams fans, two of them became scared and tried to have the gym emptied out, and the third one had no clue.

Fans are going to have to understand that they paid to watch a game and cheer for their team.  That’s it.  Regardless of what any player or coach does you (as fans) have no say whatsoever. You’re fans and that’s it. The officials are IN CHARGE. It doesn’t matter if you like it or not.  The fact that the officials felt threatened enough to want to “empty” the gym is a blackeye to BOTH schools. Fans have progressively tried to have a say in the game’s outcome and it is sad. Officiating is a tough job (one side is always going to be unhappy) but it’s necessary to try and keep a fair balance. Regardless of if you like or dislike the way a game was called 99% of the time the refs don’t care who wins. They’re human and make mistakes but it’s not malicious. Cheer for your team and be respectful to the opposing team and their fans. If they don’t deserve respect for their actions just do what we do in the south and say “Bless them”. Lol

  14. York wins by 12. Holds Cchs to 34 points. Right now he’s playing a slower game due to short bench. His 5 are very clutch and Reese Beaty was without a doubt the best player on the floor. When Coach Green’s bench gets some more experience this team should make a deep run come tournament time. Fun team to watch.

Lost 4/5 starters so that will hurt picket. I think JB and ER represent the region in Murfreesboro next year.

Pickett won’t be in the conversation. Gordonsville, Clay, and RBS will battle for that district title. Pickett could be in the play in game with Clarkrange.

Pickett loses the Amonett twins, Caleb Lowhorn and Hunter Wattenbarger. The twins both had ACL injuries which took away the team's momentum and PC also lost starter Caleb Lowhorn late in the season. But they'll be good again with Jacob Amonett and Heath Wattenbarger back along with Eli Reagan, who was a freshman and played often. They have other upcoming talent too. They are most likely a year away, but will be in the chase for the district championship.

Pickett also lost Heath Wattenbarger. He’s at York now

Wish they would have waited until season was wrapped up to select. No disrespect but how did Taylor Groves of East Robertson not make the top 3. I watched him go head to head against the boy from Pickett last night and he had 30 points and 15 rebounds in a victory while the Amonett boy had 12 points and didn't do much else. Season stats are similar I think Groves is around 24/7/3 right now and the Pickett boy was close to that with few less rebounds. I know the Strong boy is the real deal and probably best in single A but the other are not better than Groves whose single handily almost led his team to 18 straight wins while averaging almost 30 & 10 in last 9 games.

Groves kid is a really special athlete. Strong is too. Strong is a better shooter, Groves is a better/bigger athlete. Strong has a better coach and surrounding basketball players. Grove’s team is way more athletic. Mr Basketball is politics and stats. Shots taken versus ppg is not a factor. If it was A LOT of kids wouldn’t have been candidates. Should be a great region final.

  18. Who do you have?  If erob gets to control tempo and be the athletes they are, I’ve got them. If pickett controls it, jplays team basketball and shoots well (when they do this, they are one of if not THE best in 1A), they should win. Seen both of these teams play. I believe both are more than capable of winning it all. Looking forward to Tuesday at 7:30ish. Ur thoughts?  Lol

And I am confident, that Coffee County (team hosting) would profit more from a split of the gate (all while doing nothing). I bet there would be over 1,500 people at the game if played locally. I’m betting they have 200 at most now that it’s 2 hours away. Kids deserve to play in front of large crowds. Not to mention they all have school the next day.

District 7A girls are in the same boat. Traveling 2-2 1/2 hrs to play games against district opponents. 7A boys are 3 out of 4. Very dumb. Like you said would make a lot bigger gate (which is all t$$aa thinks about) and a better atmosphere for the kids. Makes  too much sense they’ll never buy into “logic”.
