1. Good grief, what is going on up there? The baseball team is about to get eliminated at home, and suddenly there's no power for the first time in anyone's memory? Then, the softball team is ready to go, only to be save by yet another controversy? You've got to admit, die hard Unicoi fan or not, this doesn't look good. What it looks like is the stereotype that says you had better be MUCH better than Erwin if you are going to play them up there.

I know the coach from last years summer team is no the H.S. coach but he is a class act.

  2. Good grief they've done it again! I heard that Alcoa scored to tie Unicoi County's softball team tonight in the last inning....only to have the umpires say that the batter was out for interference and then sprint off of the field. This is unreal!! Is the place just a den of cheaters, or what gives?

I was fast enough to get there in time to get the deflection. Anyone that ever got to see me play would know that was the one thing that I had over everyone else. I never had the strongest arm or the best bat, but I could run fast and I busted it 110-mph wherever I went. Also, the ball did not hit me in the face, somehow it found it's way into my glove (but I can't take the credit for that one), it was kind of like a matrix-type thing. Also, what are you talking about a pasture field? Where do you think I play high school ball at? (Also, I would like to apologize to my English teachers for repeatedly spelling "their" when it should have been "there" in previous posts.)

Please elaborate on why you have placed me in the "stupid category"...

  3. I wouldn't know WaCoJaCo if he walked by me, but I'm thinking the name has got to be some sort of parody on the "Wacko Jacko" - Michael Jackson thing.

I don't condone the actions of people that throw it in your face either...the best thing to do when that happens is what y'all did to the Hill on Monday...serve that beast up cold...

I got the joke, but that was one of the first things that I saw on my birthday this morning...it wasn't a friendly message of "have a nice day" but you were mocking my screenname...but while I am on this subject I am going to ask you something that I have been curious about...what does your screenname stand for 'WaCoJaCo'

  4. There you go then, you understand. I bet it's hard even now for you to look at Cherokee in any playoff action and say, "good luck from all of East Tennessee fellas."

when I was in high school we had a pretty tight rivalry with Cherokee...resulted in a fist fight at the 50-yard line with players, fans, and parents...my fondest memory of my senior year of football was charging towards the 50-yard line (something that I did in my immature adrenaline-filled body), and glancing up to see my classmate (not on the team) with his face fully painted rushing into the pile...somehow we made it home with a Cherokee football helmet, but it did get returned...eventually...I think...

  5. I don't really disagree w/you Pete. If you trace our conversation back a bit, you will note that I posed to you that perhaps you didn't really understand the hatred of this rivalry. You're remarks are mature and pointed, but for most D-B fans, beating the Hill is more dramatic than what will happen Friday. Both teams will be underdogs, and both will likely be done by midnight Friday. However, keeping the Toppers on that leash......priceless.

Okay, now I saved myself from making this comment after Dobyns-Bennett eliminated Jefferson County, but now after the same type of comments come up after beating (but not eliminating) Science Hill it seems like this might be a good time to say go ahead and let it out.

Major League Baseball plays a 162-game regular season schedule. After each win that a team has, you will usually not find the players putting down the team that just lost. Even after a playoff game, you will see the victorious team talking about how great of a game it was and sometimes even giving credit to their opponents. Has high school baseball lost track of that? This was not a MUST WIN game tonight, a big win yes, but not the biggest. Remember, if you lose on Friday...your season is over.

I wish y'all luck on Friday, and I hope that y'all will beat Halls. But if I were from another team getting ready to play y'all, I would have to say that you have no class. Remember that a win is a win, whether it is by slaughter rule or a 1-run squeaker. On that same note, a loss is a loss. And a loss on Friday would be the final one, so don't let that happen.

Science Hill will be playing on Friday too, and I hope that they win as well. It'd be great to have 2 teams from District 1-AAA going to State. And just a piece of advice, if y'all win state (and a victory on Friday would make for a pretty good case that y'all could take it) please take that trophy, order your rings, and leave Memphis headed back to Kingsport with the satisfaction that you've beaten the best. There is no need to run the other team into the dirt, that's just bad sportsmanship (and this doesn't go for everyone on the board...and I've been guilty of the exact same thing before and it's only later that I realize what that must have looked like). I don't want to go into the "if you don't win state" part, because honestly I don't want to make a prediction like that.

This win doesn't mean a thing if it's followed by a loss on Friday. Every team in the state of Tennessee that lost tonight has the same chance of getting to state as all of the winning teams from tonight's games. Win on Friday, celebrate responsibly with the friends and family, and have a safe trip to Memphis.

But I do agree with GLee's statement about those yellow uniforms...and the Unicoi uni's that remind me of a blue-toned version of the old Astros. Where are people getting these horrendous ideas from?

  6. What's the matter there Cyclone, got a little Tribe envy working? I called this thrashing a week ago, and I pointed that out tonight. A little sensitive aren't you? How's 'Betsy's baseball team doing....oh, never mind. Perhaps you're one of many Elizabethton types that will never recover from that beating that a very average D-B team slapped on Witten and friends when they were #1. Heh heh, you didn't want to go here did you?

man you are really good. Know everything about absolutly nothing. Or is it nothing about everything.

    825677240

  7. Hmmm, a title game between D-B and Science Hill for all the marbles and D-B stomps them......hmmmmm......seems familiar. The great thing about yellow pants is that you can't see the pee running down the legs!!

    Boola Boola!!

A thrashing in JC and the men in yellow took it on the tail! Gaf Gaf!! The big spanker was a Soph. Jordon Adams with a bases loaded double, and had 5 ribbies in the game.

A Home game with Halls is looming large and the boyz down at the E-Z Snooze Hotel have got the Vacancy sign dusted off for the visitors from Big K Town.

Penuts, popcorn, onion soup, yadda yadda yadda, poo-poo-pee-doop!

  8. "Read the rules"....are you serious? Take whatever position you want on Baxter, but anyone, and I mean anyone who is passionate about their team and went through what South Greene went through would have gone bezerk! I don't follow S-G, and I'm not sure I've ever been there more than maybe once. Still, I know a good corn cobbing when I see one, and this thing stinks to high heaven......sounds like poetic justice got served tonight.

This coming from someone that posts mostly in girls basketball. You could start a hardware store with the screws that have come out of S.Greene. Next stop Camp Creek!

Don't try to take away from a good game with remarks that reflect mostly of your ignorance. Read the rules.

  9. It's just amazing how anyone who follows this rivalry can call their shot a week in advance. As I said, "blood letting". Big game, Region Title, no where to hide, I've seen this movie before and I know how it ends every time!

Nice try illpete, but perhaps you don't understand the hatred in this rivalry. No one need try to mamby pamby it as something different, the two schools really dislike one another. Science Hill has a massive D-B complex based on their general inferiority versus them in sports as the years go by. Yes, they win occasionally (as they did tonight), but by the by, it's D-B that holds the major records, D-B that generally beats them, and D-B that they can't get out of their minds. No one probably appreciates just how bad Science Hill's self image is due to the set-your-clock butt kicking they get every year in football to start the whole school year.

Conversely, D-B can be a moody bunch, and when their kids get pi$$y, they gag it up and perpetuate the "choker" label. Mark my words, the biggest game next week for D-B is the 1st one. A re-match with Science Hill for the Region title will be a blood letting. Why? Because the D-B kids will have had time to get over their PMS fits they occasionally throw, they will have gotten a win, and that old November like-it's time to kill 'em in football-mentality will take over.

  10. Get this one (and I don't have a dog in the race--it's just so unreal). Unicoi County is at their legendary home field facing South Greene. South Greene ties the game at 1-1 in the top of the 6th, then takes the lead 2-1. However, the lead is erased when Unicoi appeals the runner missing home and the ump makes it stand up. So, 1-1 headed to the bottom of the 6th, right? Wrong! The lights short-circuit, the game has to be called because of darkness, and the ruling reverts back to the last completed inning....Final Score Unicoi 1 South Greene 0!!

Can you imagine their coach not exploding in front of the media?!! Now I don't give a hoot for either team, but put yourself in THAT guys place! If it's me, I'm probably pushing the TSSAA envelope for "just what are our rules for fining coaches?"

  12. State Titles? Start with 13 in football.

Stonewall that's fine. Bring all those conference champinoships right on over. After you do that, want to try STATE Championships? I'm not the one embarrassed.

    825672945

  13. I'm delusional because YOU say so? Heh heh heh, whatever you say there "BUDDY". If you force a D-B fan to come on here with all of the sports and their numbers of conference championships, I would imagine you are going to be embarrassed. Basically I don't care, because the second you admit to someone else's football dominance, and you call yourself a "basketball" school, we're done. It's over. It's kind of like not really knowing a person, but as soon as they identify themselves as a George Michael fan, you just know......

Can you read? Or is it the interpreting part you have a problem with? I said basically the exact same thing in my post that you just said in your last one. I said SH doesn't compare in football. I also said the only other difference was, now look real close buddy, OCCASIONALLY basketball. SH flat out dominated the sport in TN in the 90's and never has a bad team. You can disagree all you want but the last 3 years have been a rebuilding time for them. They've had rosters full of freshman and sophmores. Even with that, they've still put together good teams. SH is and always will be a basketball school. The other sports are evenly matched 99% of the time. That's the truth and if you try to argue with that you're delusional.

    825672741

  14. Uhh...O.K.-whatever you say. Football/don't even go there....Basketball/the shine is off the ball; no good teams in Upper East TN this year, but 2 out of the last 3 State Tournament appearances for D-B; no Region title in hoops for the Hill in 4 years. Baseball/After a long thrashing, baseball enjoyed a brief revival for Science Hill, but the last couple of years have leaned heavily back in D-B's favor. As for "other" sports, if you've got to get jacked up about swimming, soccer, or golf..........you've defined the school (accurately I might add).

What are you talking about? You have got to be kidding(I'm referring to the first paragraph of your post). SH and DB are pretty evenly matched in every sport except football and occasionally basketball. DB is the football school. SH is the basketball school. Everyone knows this. They go back and forth with other sports as far as being number 1. It's not a secret that SH and DB have the best athletic programs in Upper East TN. That is the reason the rivalry between them is so heated.

Well, it looks like Red Hot DB got cooled down. I wasn't at the games so I can't say what the reasons were for the two losses to Science Hill. Maybe Science Hill came out to play, and maybe Dobyns-Bennett didn't. All I know is that the Toppers put more men across the plate than the Indians in two straight games. Now the District 1-AAA Tournament is over, so put it behind you and "park it".

To the Dobyns-Bennett team: You had a very good regular season, but you got beat out in the District Tournament. It's okay, because you are still in the Regionals. The best thing to do about the District Tournament is to "Park It". Pick the intensity back up for the Regionals, because there are some good teams over in District 2-AAA. I hope your steak dinner was good, but I really enjoyed my Moonlite Bar-B-Q up in Owensboro, Kentucky earlier today. Maybe y'all could get together with the Toppers for another steak dinner after a District 1-AAA Regional sweep.

To the Science Hill team: Obviously you had a great tournament run coming out of the losers' bracket to beat Dobyns-Bennett. But those wins don't mean a thing other than having a home game against the 2-seed from District 2-AAA. Congratulations on your District Tournament Championship, but like I said, it doesn't mean a thing if you lose your next game. It's time to go out and show those District 2-AAA boys that the Northeast Tennessee sector is for real. Y'all will be representing Tri-Cities baseball alongside the Indians. How about supporting each other in the first round of Regionals, then both teams have a good shot at going to Sub-State.

    825672484

  16. No arguing the past successes on the Hill. (3 State Titles in the 90's). However, there have been no Region Titles, and no trips to the State Tourney in what will amount to 4 years for the Toppers. The locals seem to be content to talk about umpteen straight district titles. Those and 75 cents will get me Fritos in the lobby. High School Basketball is decided at tournament time. Head to head, the Toppers resume reads: D-B loss, Greeneville loss, D-B loss, Clinton loss, Tennesse High loss in the last three years.
