In my eyes the football season is toast now unless he rescinds the executive order down the road. Kids hadn’t had contact since last fall now and won’t get a chance at earliest to start practicing Sept. 1st. That means first games wouldn’t be until around Oct. 1st. Playoffs usually start first week of November. Going to make it tough and have to make lots of changes if any type of season is played.

Plus High school kids playing in below freezing temps some games

I knew high school sports (at least football anyways) wasn't gonna happen this fall. You can't make students and parents jump through hoops to get their kids back in school but tell them its completely fine for everybody to go to a football game on Friday night. Because athletic events are an extension of the schools.

In a time where kids in certain areas are doing drive-thru graduations or only allowed to have parents at their graduations then high school football was never gonna happen.

In a time where kids are seated 6-feet apart in a classroom and have to wear masks in the hallways then high school football was never gonna happen.

In a time where only one student at a time was gonna be allowed in the bathrooms then high school football was never gonna happen.

That's excellent points. We just had graduation and Senior parents was only allowed to have 4 family members. But we was going to start football on time. No way, let’s hope the jr class will be able to have it next fall.

It's an intentionally vague guideline disguised as an order. As governor he should provide clear and specific orders and provide logical reasons for those. And it's 3 months past time TSSAA got involved even though they got PPP bailout funds and probably aren't worried about revenue right now.

Again just looking at social media posts we've had baseball and softball tournaments, summer workouts, basketball scrimmages, wrestling matches, packed graduation ceremonies, water parks, church services, and concerts in TN with thousands in the last month. Not to mention multiple "protests" with thousands. It's time to play ball starting July 6th.

If you take that into account what you posted and everybody going on vacation it’s not hard to understand why they are a surge in new cases. They cannot let it get keep getting worse. To me it’s not worth the risk. I hate it for the seniors though.

It makes absolute sense that doctors, nurses, and dentists wear them...obviously, since they are constantly working closely with sick people or just many people in general. The argument is not about them, but about those of us who distance properly, wash our hands, sanitize, and live smartly. This is about common sense and personal responsibility. I can’t help the crazies, but life is a constant stream of personal responsibility in every way. These “so called mandates”, which ironically have multiple exemptions and exceptions, is about being told what to do and when to do it. This is not America.

If your in the stands and sneeze it can cover 6 to 8 ft. So why not wear a mask when we are in the stands if it will let us play?

I don’t fully disagree, however we are in position to have both school and sports. In fact, Nashville Metro just made its decision and it is good news for the state. They are having their kids choose between virtual or in person teaching, but all kids will be permitted to play sports. Obviously, if I was a parent of a student-athlete, they would be learning in person in order to play sports by my choice...but the systems are at least making rational decisions so far it seems. We should be good to go by late August.

Not if numbers keep going up and kids and staff start getting it.

First off, we can’t control the crazies whatsoever, similar to criminals in normal life. They are going to act badly no matter what. I would tell everyone to wash your hands frequently and distance when possible, and certainly cough and sneeze into your arm. If the at risk want to go out, then go for it. If they feel like they should wear a mask, wear it. It seems like common sense stuff to me, but I think we’ve lost a lot of common sense nowadays unfortunately.

They are not going to allow big crowds at school when kids start testing positive for covid. Everyone knows this is more contagious than the flu. If they even try to start season I will be surprised if it makes it to the 1st regular season game.

The story has now been rescinded because the mayor’s quote was that he did not have the authority to require masks but could only highly recommend them. Some news organizations ran the mask mandate headline which turned out to be false. Another example of the media’s rush to post a catchy headline for click bait, when in fact we are in basically the same position we were in before the story. It’s a personal responsibility decision as always.

We are going to get a lot more cases in TN it will surprise me if we have a season. I was told one of the options in Clinton for students is to stay in 1 classroom all day and wear mask and teachers rotate classes.

I think getting back to a responsible normal is important.  If you don’t want to go watch or send your kids then that is up to you but others disagree.  No magic vaccine is coming anytime soon.

They canceled the spring sports and need to cancel fall sports also In 2020. There are so much more they need to understand about this virus. They need to see if they are a vaccine in January 2021. They need to get control of it. Need to home school kids till after Christmas then try to go back January of 2021

  9. Schools and TSSAA already said they could  make it without football in 2020 but it would be tight. So how they planning on doing class rooms when school starts? When kids start getting sick schools will shut down again or just let it spread. Look how fast college football players started getting it when they started working out.  Got to wait for vaccine to protect schools from lawsuits.

    Go Dragons!

When TSSAA earns their money and declares no fall sports don't be upset .Their decision will be what is best for everyone,  coaches, fans, cheerleaders,  band, concession and any other workers, and not just the few dying from covid 19 especially any young athletes.  So if a few people die as a result of playing football then it was worth it.

    True

Watched some practice  from the top this week a couple of days, and saw some really positive things from the Mavericks.   As I stated before, the Mavericks look to have a huge team, around 80 as I counted on both days.  Offensively, the offensive line looked big, Max is around 6'4, Big Goins is around the 6'3 mark as well, and then looking inside, I saw the three starters, Sexton, Workman and Shipley from last season anchoring it down.  As they usually do,  Hatmaker and Martinez were throwing balls all over the field.  Defensively, the defensive line was anchored by Lindsey, who I know will have a huge year.  The line backers are two deep across the board with returning starters Noe, Cummins, Eli Davis, and a big athletic LB who I think is Shannon.  The Brock kid looked thick and was running well.  The secondary is intact with Thomas, JMiller, WIlliams, Terry, and White.  I do see some young guys like BMiller, Russell, West, and Vowell out there because they are all over 6'and seem very athletic. Coaches were moving them around and getting great looks from the young guys.   Three kickers getting work, seems like they have one for almost each class.  They have never had three kickers.  As we head into the dead period with a head full of steam, I am hoping all of our kids have a safe break and come back as hungry as they looked last week.   I am sure I missed some folks, but I will be sure to get back up there soon to see how this team is progressing.  Go Mavs

That’s great they, should be ahead of schedule with the extra work they got in at the park with some of there coaches.

  12. What is crazy to me is that nothing is fully opened up because Covid-19. Movie theaters is not opening up they don’t know when they will. Cruises is canceled till late summer but will probably get extended Like they been doing. But high schools are going to have games on Friday nights with thousands of fans. I will miss football but if it will save lives then I will survive.

How many kids practicing currently are getting sick?
Recent surge is due to how the state is now reporting cases.

Could be true, however I say allow the schools who are open to play all sports. If there are school systems that shut their doors and keep the kids at home, so be it. They will miss out this fall. If that’s the way this thing heads, then allow the open schools to have sports and the rest of them can sit out this year. That’s the fairest way to handle such a politicized, social, economical, educational, sports-related decision. Get in or get out, and that’s left up to each school system.

Don’t matter cases are going up. It’s not up to each school system

  14.  For graduation here in Clinton they are allowing a group of 4 guest for each family and going to sit them 6 feet apart. But practice is going on and they don’t have the kids 6 feet apart. The senior kids Graduating  on the field will be sitting 6 feet apart also. Dead period is almost here. I don’t have a kid graduating this year but after the dead period isn’t practice supposed to start up? This is really doesn’t make sense. With Tennessee getting a surge in new cases and deaths of Covid 19. Is it just going to get better after the dead period? Because isn’t Full practice going to start after dead period? I don’t see how we are going to have a football season this year. This sucks for everyone!

  15. They will need to be a Vaccine before we can return to normal. With the current rise in numbers and every one going on vacation I see this spreading more and more before school start date. For Clinton they are only allowing 4 tickets per family to attend graduation. What happens if numbers and deaths keep rising??? Will they let school start with all kids in attendance in two months? Will they allow hundreds to thousands attend football games? Teachers that are older with underlining issues in my opinion need a choice of a vaccine.
