Bowers if the coach is a man of integrity and he also demands discipline so it will be interesting how things go.

Yea he has a book full of integrity infractions from the TSSAA from his coaching days. Lol

When ya’ll say every public and private school recruits…. what does that really mean??? high school coaches are not out recruiting like college coaches… that’s a fact… its up to the student athlete and the parents where they think is the best place to succeed…..
Ya’ll can say all you want about schools recruiting and this and that…. At the end of the day it matters about the coaching and how the players respond…. an example is mba… do you really think mba is recruiting??? No, they believe in the system at hand and the coaches know how to prepare what they have on hand…. Ya’ll think MTCS is recruiting??? Come on….boarding schools don’t count btw…. Let me know what yall think…

It’s hilarious to not think MBA doesn’t recruit. They recruit them young. They literally go to every private school that ends in 6th grade and make a pitch. You don’t think Marcel Reed was recruited to MBA? Mba isn’t just saying “well I hope the kids that apply are good at sports”. They bring a wide variety of students in 7th grade and then they get some more as 9th graders. They host basketball leagues, lacrosse clinics, and a plethora of other events to get kids on campus.

All these private schools have to do is get the parent to sign a piece of paper that says they are interested in the school. Then they are free to talk to whoever they want at said school.

These private schools aren’t hosting basketball leagues, 7on7 leagues, lacrosse leagues out of the kindness of their hearts. Lol

I know nothing about MTCS, but if they have any kind of leagues like I mentioned above you can bet they have tried to recruit players to their school.

Would they wanna go to BGA???? Who would wanna leave a school like Ensworth when you are already enrolled and go to BGA???? No offense to BGA but just thinking about the two different schools…. I wouldn’t follow roc either…..

    The answer is one.

If you use the Lipscomb model you can turn it around more quickly but be careful who you text.  Ensworth is no rookie when it concerns to recruiting.

Whether you like it or not every private school in Nashville recruits.

I disagree here Booger….. You are talking like next season is do or die for wade if ensworth hires him…. If wade gets hired by bowers nobody is expecting a gold ball next year or the year after…. The talent is down down down…. You can get a lot of  Jimmy and joes in a few years at a place like ensworth…. gold ball in 3-4 years if ensworth hires wade….what you think?

Down at qb for sure. Could have used another wr more than likely to help out, but the problem for ensworth wasn’t talent. They have tons of talent. The problem for ensworth came from the inside. The scheme wasn’t there. When you are running out of shotgun from the 1 yard line and you have a 6’2 man child you can just give it to under center just doesn’t add up. Plenty of talent wasn’t being utilized to its fullest as well. They were so much more athletic than mba this year(no disrespect to mba, they’d probably agree) that when ensworth lost it was a clear sign of being out coached. Being that it was a rival was just icing on the cake.

We would love to have him at BA.
Proven winner, sounds perfect to me at the D2 level and knows the landscape.   Bowers knows winners.

Bowers knows winners but when it was time to hire his predecessor he completely messed up. He should have hired Wade. Everybody knew he should have and he set the program back because of the Garrett hire.

Anybody would be lucky to have Wade. He most definitely has what it takes.

Who’s Ricky trying to get back, Jonas, Paul Wade, Pack, McGugin?

He did wade dirty. I’m not sure wade would come back. It all depends on what happens with Roc and as of now he’s still the head coach.

The scuttle is DC will be current D2AA head coach and OC will be former D2AAA Head coach.

I’m sure Jonas will be all about it. Does that mean Roc goes back to bga? Id imagine so. The OC has me stumped. I’ll have to think on that one.

Interesting. I’ve not heard any of this. Looking forward to following.

This has been circulating for a while. The new headmaster knows what a good program can do for the school. The last headmaster David Braimer was brought in to focus on the arts and academics then athletics fell off. The school has seen what other local schools have done for their state, regional, and national pedigree when football is excellent. Ricky will be getting that gang back together IMO and good for all of them.

    Who is this gang?

The Mighty Bowers will be taking over the reigns at Ensworth very soon! He is coaching the FR group in basketball, that is insanely loaded! So only a matter of time before the coup happens and he is on the sideline in HS. Also rumblings that he is sending out feelers to HS football coaches…. Looking like he is gonna build one more dream team before retirement!

He helped coach the 8th grade basketball team 2 years ago. Him coaching a certain group doesn’t mean he’s coming back. He won’t coach the football team.

You don't just build a dorm and presto you are a boarding school. Now you have full time security, full time food service, dorm "mothers" or "fathers" More employees to be hired to keep facilities open and operational past normal school hours (you know like libraries, study halls and student centers. And they all have to be overseen.  And we have not even gotten to the zoning changes that have to be approved for living quarters. You think the MBA neighborhood would be all smiles on that one?

Ya'll think you can just throw up a Quonset Hut and live like they are in basic training.

Sounds like he just wants “football dorms” even easier to pass through the board. Lol

    I have some ideas here.

Solutions for Nashville Schools who now have to play competitive games to win State Championships:

    1. Build dorms. MBA has the nicest facilities I have ever seen for a high school. I am sure they could afford to build a dorm. Same for BA and Ensworth.  If the schools do not want to create a boarding program, that is fine.  You do not have to change your culture. However, the opportunities and resources are there for you.

    2. Build a program that attracts kids from area - keeping in mind that the Nashville MSA that is 5x bigger than Chattanooga MSA.  If the Nashville schools did not allow Trent Dilfer to come in and take away so many exceptional players from them, none of this would be coming up.  Everything was fine when BA, Ensworth, and MBA had all the blue chip prospects from Nashville area.  But now that Lipscomb and a few other Nashville schools are getting a share of the talent--Nashville schools are crying foul.

    3.  Win big games. Last year MBA beat McCallie twice and Baylor once. MBA just lost the big game. For all the belly aching about the talent in Chattanooga, a Nashville or Memphis school has been in the State Championship game every year since 2000.

    • There has never been a state championship game between Baylor and McCallie.
    • On the other hand, there has been an All Nashville Schools championship game 8 times since 2000  (35%) [All Nashville championships: 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017].
    • For reference, there has been ONE All Memphis championship game and ZERO All Chattanooga championship game.

    4.  Be competitive. It is a bit disingenuous that Nashville schools are making noise about this now after winning 61% of the state championships since 2000 (with Chattanooga schools winning 22% and Memphis schools winning 17%).

Nashville Schools (14 Gold Balls) 61%

    • BA: (5x) 2006, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018
    • MBA: (5x) 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2014
    • Ensworth: (4x) 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013

Chattanooga Schools (5 Gold Balls) 22%

    • Baylor: (1x) 2022
    • McCallie: (4x) 2001, 2019, 2020, 2021

Memphis Schools (4 Gold Balls) 17%

    • MUS: (4x) 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009

    5.  Move Down.  If Nashville Schools want to orchestrate a situation where they can have an unfair advantage and dominate in the manner they have grown accustomed to for most of the last 23 years, they should consider moving down to a smaller division.  This would be no less disingenuous than trying to change the boarding school rule--and if you are looking to beat the crap out of disadvantaged teams, the trophy looks the same in DIIAA as it does in DIIAAA.

Summary: Nashville schools should punish Lipscomb for taking their talent (looks like you have a good start on this one), build some dorms, win big games (not just in the regular season), move down (remember-trophy looks the same), and/or MAN UP and play football.

All great thoughts. The biggest thing with dorms is space. None of these schools have the space to put this in place. They would also have to raise class sizes. More teachers. That’s even more money. Just not worth it to most.

Sorry to but in but this is kind of my specialty. Too early to rank anybody but I’ll do a little rundown based on what I know.

LA- Extremely talented, but very young position player group. 4 D1 commits at the moment, and honestly there’s probably another 2 or 3 on the roster. Pitching depth could be their issue. Probably have the best player in the region. Also heard rumblings of a potential incoming impact transfer.

CPA- I’ll let breadtruck take this since it’s his guys.

MBA- Very talented veteran team. Have probably the most electric pitcher I’ve seen in this region in a long time. Their SS is special. Really solid lineup with a lot of lefties.

Pope- Very talented rotation, maybe the best 1/2 punch in the region and a solid lineup that will win them games, but is it enough to advance in the postseason?

BA/Ryan- some solid players that will win games, but no high end talent.

Ensworth- They finished in last place last year, and unfortunately I don’t see that changing for them at this time. They have 3 or 4 really solid players that will all play college ball, but beyond that it’s a pretty steep drop off.

Transfer from PA. Pitcher I believe

That’s true but the reality is the vast majority of the LA players are local…not sure why some folks refuse to believe it.

    hank brown-qb illinois

    chauncy Goodin-G-his choice- local

    nate spillman-wr-TN commit-local

    edwin spillman-lb-his choice-local

    bryan longwell-lb-power 5-local

    cj jimcoliy-cb-his choice-local

    branden sollis-t-power 5-local

    dillan lorrick-wr-d1-North Carolina

    junior sherrill-wr-vandy-local

    jon Adair -c-power 5-local

    Kaleb Beasley-cb-tenn-local

    several more underclassmen…all local

Truly just curious, but do you know what middle school those local boys come from?

There any truth to this? How does families literally just up and move their kids for football or sports in general? I understand the education part of it but most do it for all the wrong reasons. If I could send my kids to Baylor, McCallie or GPS for the education then sure I’m all for it but just to move for athletics is absurd to me.

I know it’s my word and you don’t know me, but know I have no dog in the fight nor any ill will towards Lipscomb whatsoever. Amazing football team.

I know from an incredibly reliable source that he called Hoover last Monday or Tuesday and gave the rec’s. Believe it or don’t. All the same but thought it was interesting that Hoover being 15 minutes away from UAB will more than likely have a few ex-Lipscomb guys next year.

  17. 9 hours ago, BobbyB said:

Will Coach Dilfer have any input on his replacement?

    I’d seriously doubt it.

He has already called Hoover HS and recommended 3 Lipscomb players to their program. Not sure he’s worried about who takes over.

I think most would pick this for the final...with good reason. How good is the east region this year with MBA, Baylor and McCallie finishing 1,2 & 3?  Next year add to LA and BA to the east.

I’d say ensworth was given a gift for next year.
