  1. The Cougars found their guy. Wasn’t Farmer even though he had a conversation with them Friday. Ended up hiring a CPA assistant. Some CPA connections here, think he’s a decent hire for them. Looks like they went young and enthusiastic instead of a older and more experienced coach. Could be a good one, time will tell.

Well if it wasn’t a big enough dumpster fire, they interviewed one of the biggest clowns in coaching history. Good chance this moron gets the job to because no one wants it and the school has been turned down several times. If Big Chief is watching PLEASE tell your wife to not let this happen. Brad Farmer is not the guy you want running your program unless you have given up and just do not care anymore.

I don’t agree with your comments about Coach Farmer. I also heard he interviewed but I think he would make a great coach for the Cougars!

Heard from multiple people at GP they are in fact going after Patton at Nashville Christian. Hearing he could be announced as the new guy in the next couple days. Great hire for the Cougars if true.

    Can’t believe everything you hear.

The search started with a big name and has progressed to 5 or more coaches including assistants and middle school coaches turning them down. Just isn’t a good job right now. Don’t see it turning around anytime soon.

So they can sit out the season?

If they are leaving and going to have to sit out any way why wouldn’t they?

Where else would they go? They lost one to Maplewood last year. Could go there.

Sounds like a terrible dynamic either way.

    1. No, do you? Don’t care.

    2. Please take your daughter and go….. Farther the better!

    3. ABNER (don’t know her either)

You clearly do not know her or her daughter. They are people you want around your program and school. I would love for her to get a job coaching here.

  7. Abner has to be #1.

There are a couple former assistants that worked with Sonn that would make a ton of sense here too. One just stepped down at DA a year ago and isn’t currently coaching. *Both have switched over to girls too.

Roller is currently at Goodpasture and has girls coaching experience. Myles who has coached and has a daughter on the team could be a great option as well.

  8. Why couldn’t our administration see that 3 months ago. Not wait this long and allow some of our players to leave because they see basketball isn’t important to them. Our girls team looks like they have much lower numbers too. Hopefully Coach Kevin can somehow convince those leaving to stay.

This has taken ENTIRELY too long. Area schools have announced departures/firings, etc., held interviews and hired coaches - in some cases in less than two weeks per Bruin1 and it appears DA is no closer to a hire than they were when Coach Shaw said he was leaving at the first part of April. Two months? Are you kidding me?

I wouldn't blame anyone who left the team/school over this. Same thing happened with their girls' program when the current coach came in. They had him pegged, but dragged the whole thing out just to make some fake "splash" announcement with the hire. Disaster for that side of their program.

Who are the players who are supposedly leaving the boys' program? Practices should start up soon. What are they going to do without a coach in place?

Don’t worry about basketball, our football team will be ready to go.

I think Patton would do a really good job. He would be loyal as well. He has also learned under one of Nashville's top coaches for a long time.

This is the coach that took his name out.

  11. Not sure if this is accurate.

Rumor is one of the final candidates took his name out a couple days ago. Also sounds like we are losing a couple players.

Nolensville just completed a coaching search. Took 2 weeks.

I would have to guess we are close to finding out who the coach is with school coming to a close. Are you hearing any names?

I guess the best chance is going to be Coach Kevin after all. Didn’t think this would be the case early on.

Sadly, this process continues to drag on. There are no signs pointing to a selection anytime soon. This is not a difficult process. If teams are allowed to work out, lift, train, etc come June 1 DA will not in any way be prepared for that. DA will likely just skip summer work altogether simply because this is not important to the Administration/Headmaster. My guess is this drags on deep into June. Ridiculous and unacceptable!

Good to see other parents as frustrated as I am. Worried we will lose a few families in the program because of this. The administration doesn’t seem to care about this hire much at all. Is this an administration decision or an board decision? Either way it is a terrible look. Just give it to Coach Kevin and be done with it. Can’t see anyone who has interviewed (assuming that interviews have taken place) could still want this job. Basketball seems to be no where near as important as Football and it shows.

I can understand the desire for those who are holding out hope that Coach Harper will take the team back over. BUT, 2 things are for certain.

1)the same admin just got rid of him 1 year ago (after winning district COY) for some reason so they would have to admit they were wrong in doing so. Dont see that too often.

2)the same admin let him go and HE would have forgive and try to forget that. Forgiving will be way easier than forgetting no coach wants to work with the question of loyalty in the back of their mind all the time. No way he could fully coach this team to his best abilities after the recent past they have.

    Exactly.

Any one know of people that have interviewed for the position or have interest in the job?

Harper wants to coach again. He isn’t sure he can trust the administration after they blindsided him and let Shaw take over the program for one year and then bolt the first chance he got.

Heard today Kevin will not coach again next year.

Pretty sure interviews have begun and imagine they will, inexplicably, last several weeks. Should be an interesting process to say the least. Based on current events and the economic state, we have to assume enrollment will be down. With that being the case, what kind of budget can anyone be operating under for the 20-21 school year? It is an absolute guess at the very best. What are they willing to pay for a coach? All of this leads me to say again that Coach Harper is the clear and obvious choice here. Just be done with it and give some stability to the program right now.

Some say he does not want to coach again right now. If that is the case, we need to be seeking/interviewing other people. If they have started that would be a positive sign. I hope they have some good people interested. Seems like you are as frustrated as I am.

Coach Harper said that because he is a stand up person. DA did him wrong and let Shaw takeover the program.

He is a stand up guy who was done wrong. He did tell some people doing both jobs was too much. This is why some players/parents might question if he took back on this role.

Have they interviewed anyone or is Coach Kevin in charge of that? Could see that turning coaches away if they were interviewing for a job with someone whom may want it. Someone mentioned yesterday the job isn’t open to the public. Seems a bit strange.

If Kevin doesn’t want it, he should be the one interviewing other candidates. If not, others in the building that have coached could help. Jason is one that comes to mind, as someone who knows the game well. I am sure Adrian would be a good person to help as well.

Ready for the process to start.

Heard from who? The board has 1 employee.

A few parents said that when he stepped down. They could have been taking about administrators and I misunderstood. Coach Kevin has told me it was his decision, but we moved quickly in getting Coach Shaw.

I think the boys would like having him back. I know my son would be fine with it.

He is an assistant at GCS. Of course he would leave to become a HC. Again, Coach Harper would be the best choice.

Heard the board wants him to continue to be AD only. Did not like him doing both roles in the past. Bring him back and let some one else be the Athletic Director? Could focus his time on basketball only.

Schools would be smart to stay away from Starks. There is a reason he isn’t the coach here at BA.

Harper is the best choice, an assistant from Goodpasture who has coached with Sonn would be a good choice to.

That’s now multiple people that think the GCS assistant is a good choice. The question remains if he is interested. Would think he stays at Goodpasture. They should be loaded the next several years. Don’t think he would leave to come here.
