  1. I'll take a Devil victory by any amount. I  wouldn't say it's over if the Devils don't beat Boone by a large amount or even a very tight game either way.Who knows exactly how good anyone is at this point. I remember an early game several years ago and many thought  there was no way for a championship.

  2. Reading back through some post,no way would I wager on who will win the election unless is was back when Ronald Reagan beat Mondale and I actually did bet on my favorite president to win. In Tennessee is one thing but on a national level ,you never know who will turn out in the swing States. The electoral college was set up I guess to keep states from cheating .I was glad of it in 2016 because the amount of popular votes Hillary won by would have filled up Neyland stadium nearly 30 times. You would think in this day and time, our government would have figured out a safe and fair way for everyones vote to count the same, nomatter if your a republican living in California or a Democratic living in Nashville. There was zero question in 1984 because president Reagan won the popular vote by about 60-40 and the electoral was all red except Mondales home state of Minnesota and the district of Columbia. Now President Reagan was a winner and someone you wouldn't care to have as a neighbor if he was  making movies , into politics or just a regular guy. Not everyone liked him because that's never going to happen but I did and just like the folks who like Trump,I understand.

This will probably be a sloppy first game for the devils but I still see them with the Win

tons of talent is upcoming for the devils

    49-14

That would be most impressive since Boone already has a game against probably a good opponent . I'd take that score in a heartbeat.

You don't like him grizz. I get it.

I do though and I'm going to vote for him again. Even if I don't he's still going to get Tennessee's electoral votes. It's already determined.

Put that 26 pages in your thesis. Maybe it'll help you get a useful degree.

You are 100% correct, Trump will carry Tennessee because he is running on the GOP ticket. Aleast we have some options with our other votes for reps and so on. Thank goodness it wasn't the woman he once supported ( Hillary ) who ran on the GOP ticket in 2016 . That was how Trump got my last vote.It would take Cortez or pelosi running on the DEM ticket against GOP Hillary... .Nope,I couldn't do it, that's one vote I can't cast.

Hard to believe we went 4-6 that year. We had some talent out there, Demarcus Rogers being one (#4) who was really good, with a massive OL as you eluded to. Just shows how mediocre of a coach Stevens was. That’s of course just my opinion. Yeah, I think the QB name was David Irby, if I’m not mistaken? Heck fire, I wished we could find some linemen like that again. For some odd reason they’ve always been hard to come by in the Ridge, barring a few seasons like this one here, of course.

Yep,they make the lines for most teams today look small.I know your right tackle was listed at 345 alone.I'd say that was without shoes .

  6. Both teams have had some big victories but this was my favorite trip to Oak Ridge. The night Chris ran wild on the Wildcats. That was a monster of an Oak Ridge team in terms of size.I bet their O-Line went 300 average. The QB looked like he went about 240.My memory isn't good but the QB I remember was number 11 at the end of the game. Rewatching,he might have been closer to 275

Why does High School Football have to become a centerpiece for political opinions and racial remarks? Can we just talk about football on this message board? I feel like I get enough of political agendas and racism everywhere else.

Probably why the T has let this thread live,so we could talk about Covid and  politics and never accomplish anything,,while we talk about the games on other threads. I'm with you on the political stuff.I can't wait to turn on the TV and watch another add about how bad the other side is doing. I've narrowed down  who I'm going to vote for  to three ,after going down the GOP  ticket for the undercard.the more I watch , I've thought about a write in....Mr.B . I've kept up with him since the sixties and he is a winner like no other.

Very thorough analysis, hope a DB fan who was at the game last week can give something similar

That was pretty darn thorough.I've always been to lazy to put that much effort into my analysis. I would probably not give an A+ if I did.Maybe if it's in a state championship game and a team had just dominated another opponent. After one or two games you really don't know what you have. Now if you opened up and beat Oakland and Maryville instead of a couple of teams you were supposed to beat. Then all you have to worry about is staying healthy and finishing a very long season. That all said, I give an A to the DB team from top to bottom for not playing a perfect game and still winning with no problems in a first game without the normal preseason work.

This will be a good game.  I was at last years game and told my son that OR was a much better team than they played that night.  OR had athletes all over the field.  As I was leaving the stadium last year several of the OR players were walking to the bus and I told them to keep their head up because they were going to get better and they needed to learn from their mistakes and move on.  It appears the coach and players did just that from what the balance of last season suggest and the HV game this season.  If DB has a weakness it would be over looking a really good OR football team.

I've talked to a lot of DB fans over the years that were very confident about how good the team was but very few would ever overlook a playoff opponent this day and time .  During the season against a weak team, maybe, but not a good OR team. The great thing is none of them have to play on Fridays and it's up to the coaches not to let the team get to over confident. No way DB overlooks OR this week.

Central and Mo-West used to give Murvil fits in the old 4A format. There were some classic games amongst them. WaCO, Batman-What would you say DB’s weaknesses are? I can pretty much guess what WJ is gonna say is their weakness because he has been saying it for quite a while now.

I'll have to let someone much more in the know give away any weaknesses.Even when I went to every practice,I tried to only share common knowledge stuff . That's why a lot of coaches won't let folks watch or record  little Johnny's practice.I got hours of my little Johnny's on tape, permission or not.As a parent, you just never know when the ride will end, so enjoy every practice or game your able to watch.Better edit, The last part was for any parent or grand parents with kids still playing or coming up.

It was great to watch the games and I  know the kids loved every minute.I agree with the article, especially with the last couple of paragraphs. It looked as I said before that the people in Elizabethton tried to do it right. That's the best way to make the end result much more positive. If you get schools that let thousands into their stadiums with hundreds of folks not being smart. That's the ones who might ruin it for everyone. I don't see a difference with a crowd being at a super market, sports event, church, protest , political event, school or anywhere. You can try and take care of your part or not, in my opinion, that's going to decide the rest of this year .

Anybody that can beat Maryville deserves a holiday named after them.

Just done a quick look back and there wouldn't be a great number of new holidays if you started with the 2000 season. If I'm correct,1999 was the last year Maryville didn't make the semi's.Since then , they have  won it all 13  out of the 17  years they played in the finals. It would indeed be great to have a local school do that well. Since 1969, In NET ( I'm using Batman's map to make it better then the JC press would say ) from Morristown on up to Johnson county, there have been four schools with a grand total of 9 finals combined. The good news is when they get there, NET teams do very well.

  13. Reading back through the thread,I didn't hear the coach but would say this when comparing any program to Maryville. I would think he was meaning that is where he wants to take the DB program in the future. You don't get there with one good team. It's a building process that takes years of success.I think Betsy used the same process in being like the Greeneville program with their strength and conditioning along with coaching. Maryville is the Mount Everest of 6A Tennessee football since it was started  in 2009. We all know that if you  were the first 6A team in East Tennessee to get past Maryville, there are always several more who will give very different match-up problems.Even the Red Rebels have had some off years against those opponents. It would be awesome to have a 6A team in NET that was the biggest hurdle for Maryville to even make the semi finals. To be honest,I don't remember the last time they didn't make atleast the final four In 6A or 4A.I would say the  late 90's,give or take.Even if they missed one or two in that time, think about just how successful that is.What percentage of programs in the nation have a run like that ? I'd take beating them one time as pretty darn good.

Which stadiums?  I assume you're talking about the Castle last night for one...

I for one think the tradition they have in Oak Ridge with state titles and a national championship, along with their team coming down the hill at Blankenship Field is an awesome place to watch a game. The Castle in Bristol is great  because of the Stone as well as the state titles and also a national championship for the TH program. The third place is DB's home stadium,J Fred Johnson. Not many high schools in Tennessee can hold as many people and the DB pregame is my favorite just ahead of Oak Ridge.I'd probably switch the two if my kids had went  to OR . There are a lot of places in  East Tennessee that have  awesome views of the mountains or great football traditions but these are my three favorites to watch a game.

Why didn’t you volunteer and go tell people to put their mask on?? Schools don’t have enough people to do this.

Yep, that works even better at Walmart. We can talk trash on coacht or online Fox news because it's just our opinions and it can be fun. None of us are going to get anyone converted like in  religion. My attitude on this is like talking to my best friend who is an atheist .He has read every text on about every religion there is ,several times .He loves to prove there is no way any of them are correct and you might as well believe in the tooth fairy.  I agree with him that not everyone can be 100% correct because I've seen three different kinds of Baptist sit in the break room and each say the other two were going to heck.Always we end it somewhat this way.I tell him that I  hope God has forgiveness and loves all humans as I love my kid's with zero conditions and understands he made everyone of us imperfect. If that's not the case, I just hope if anyone has is right, it's not you.

Salem, what is sad is that I was referring to people on both extremes of the aisle here. And it is no surprise to me that you were the first to respond.

I have seen you, and others, continue to obliterate measured, and sometimes conflicted, responses in this thread repeatedly, and I just don't get it. Why? Why not solely focus your energy on folks like DJ or Grizz, who think the world is burning and we must retreat to the nearest fallout shelter? Instead, you go after every single individual who doesn't have the same 100% verbatim attitude/opinion on this.

Pardon me for feeling conflicted. I lost a healthy middle aged co-worker to this mess, and my cousin (travelling ER nurse) just came off of a ventilator from her own COVID battle, so you'll have to understand why some folks are a little more cautious and conflicted than others. That doesn't make me soft, un-American, or a liberal. It makes me human, and I just want to better understand what we are dealing with.

I just wish some of you guys would show a tiny bit of compassion for those who might have a good reason for feeling a tiny bit conflicted. And if that means we just agree to disagree, that's a lot better than ridicule.

I understand what your saying 100% and I also understand the other side of this. That as some say is what makes me on the fence about what the truth is and how the country has tried to make it political. Ive got young heathy sons and I know they are bullet proof in their minds . I also have one that is a police officer your going to say " yes sir " to ,when he speaks to you.He has one of those underlying conditions and it's not being old or fat .He knows it's a risk but does his job every day.I do my part for not only old people but for people that put their lives on the line every day . I'm not just talking about Covid because there are a lot of things that will kill you .I got my flu shot already and a little early because the other side of this is also correct. The flu kills .To myself  the flu is like a mountain lion that mostly hunts a few months every year.  Covid is similar but more like a Tiger that we already see hunts every month with the same hunger. We live with both and really the biggest difference is we own a  small .22 to protect us.It sometimes stops the Mountain lion but will just make the Tiger mad.

There was a staggering lack of mask compliance and enforcement at last night's JP2/Smyrna game, at least on the Smyrna side where I was.

It was simultaneously great to be at a sports event for the first time in several months and extremely off-putting to see the mask requests from the PA announcer be completely no-sold/ignored. More kids without masks than with them. Social distancing was non-existent.

And it wasn't just the kids with all of that. I greatly resented the people whose indifference put me (and others) at risk. If I hadn't needed to be there, I wouldn't have gone.

But prep work is non-optional for a broadcaster, and I've got JP2 in week 4. Because JP2 inexplicably didn't livestream it, and I don't think Smyrna does any streaming, the only way I was seeing that game was in person.

So I went. But I wasn't happy about it. At all.

I watched the Elizabethton game on TV and it looked like they tried to do it right for the most part.I guess many of those that were lucky enough to get seats didn't want to lose them or take a chance of it.

  18. Hopefully things will work out and we will get to see a full season.Who knows what the next couple of months will bring but atleast we got to enjoy a few football games this week. You guys have a really nice program and I hope the Devils get to play you a couple of times again this year nomatter the outcome.

Hughes with one last TD to ice the game. 30-8. Considering this is the first game and neither team got any real practice or scrimmages and EHS still played well im optimistic about the season.

Yep,with their size and athletes ,they are going to be hard to stop in 4A again this year.Just hope the  Devils get to play a game or two as well.
