West has over recruited and underachieved. Since Brown has gotten there they have done a good job of getting kids in but the fact that this is only going to be their 2nd championship should be considered underachieving. They have been LOADED for years on talent but it took too long to get over the hump. There are over 15 (public) high schools in Knox County no one school can dominate year in and year out, thats why you have so many state champion year to year from the Knoxville area. So this “recruiting”you say is not accurate. Coach Brown had great teams At Morristown before he got to Knox West so he deserves his credit. And this years team isnt even “LOADED” but still managed to return to state.

That said - West played a very difficult schedule and has been battle tested - but you have to admit on the head to head - Page has more left from last year’s team than West does.  My heart and my head says West can take this one,  but I think it will be a battle to the end.  

Do you realize how many of these guys played in just about every game last year because of all the blowouts? And they were on the sideline and in the state championship game last year with Page. They will be just fine.

Segregation means every community feeling like they need to have have their own schools, Karns , powell, halls, all within 15 minutes of Emory Road, Fulton and Central are opposite ends of Broadway (less than 15 min) West and Bearden are both basically Kingston Pike, Farragut does their own thing.... do you see the picture im painting?

There is no way you are a West fan and pick against them every single or have some kind of doubt every week even against a weaker team. Just doesnt make any sense.

and i would also say West has had the talent to overcome some poor coaching at times throughout the years, No shot at any of the coaches.

Before i got to high school in 08’ West was not household name it is today, the knox county rezoning in 2009 was a big boost for the school. Pulling in more kids from fulton on one side and more bearden kids on the other end, definitely gave the school a greater pool of athletes to choose from. Not just football, West has been dominant in track and basketball as well.

These are kids and the most important thing is that they have fun. We all get caught up in the winning and losing part of it and that's understandable.

Honestly the state as a whole has too many classes.. 5A should be the highest like it once was. Stiffen up the competition make these games mean more.

Last year Alcoa fans claimed the only reason West was in that game was bc of knox county refs...now is our return trip to Alcoa and based on that theory West should have lost badly then and will do so.

Also Blount County hasnt been too kind to West as of late as they lost 35-7 to Maryville last year and havent beaten any of the blount county teams at there place since 2013!

And a note:  It was ten years ago (actually last night, November 25) that Powell beat West 29-6 in the semis at Powell to get to the Blue Cross Bowl.  

 

I played in that game.. still have a bad taste in mouth about it.. just hope either team brings the trophy back to Knoxville!
