Pretty sure that this late Karns can't hire a "permanent" coach, per Knox County policy, so they have an interim in place for the 2023 season.
it is the defensive coordinator correct?

Is this the year DB finally gets over the hump ?? or will it be more of the same old same old. Losing to Science Hill.

Bizarre timing here, but I wish him the best of luck. It was already going to be a tough year for Karns now that Bishop is gone, but this doesn't help either.
yes. gonna be a very tough year. they might only win 2 games.

How did this turn into a Maryville thread?

You may want to look at the highlights between Powell and Alcoa. Number 13 for Powell will be a headache for a lot of schools they play. The QB also has matured a lot during off season. BC posted them on the Alcoa thread.
Yep Barney really don’t see Powell taking a step back. Especially not to losing to Heritage this year level.

I think they will have a better season, especially with their defense. They have two of the most talented defensive backs to ever come out of that school on their roster currently (Thompson Bowers and Reece Dickey). Jack Dawson's heritage defense coordinator is a very young and talented coach. I mean, he’s a full-time student along with being a defensive coordinator at a high school and in 5A, and he’s only 22 other than having extremely high blood pressure. He's doing one heck of a job. When he graduates in December from UT, the sky is the limit for him if they can keep him for maybe four years and then make him a head coach. Heritage should have no problem getting back on the map. I guess, being on the map, they really never have been on the map.
I don’t remember hearing about those guys last year , did they play?

I wish newspaper sites would stop doing this crap. Just let people read the article.

They will beat Karns, William Blount, and Lenoir City. Central, SD, Halls are all toss ups. They would be lucky to win any of the others left I think .
Clinton will be loaded with talent this year. Not beating Maryville. Don’t think Powell would lose that game. And definitely not West.
So 6-4 best case in my opinion

I think they hit this in the first 5 weeks.. time will tell! Lot of good things coming out of the locker room. Makes me proud as an alum. Been a long time coming, kids deserve a good season.
You think they will beat Powell?? I would be surprised

My Goddaughter took me to the Knoxville Zoo Sunday for Mother’s Day and someone came up behind me and and kept saying “Maryville recruits” what’s wrong with people?
That’s a good one

Just looked and they have taken Campbell county off the schedule. Wonder why?

I think the mountaineers will win 4 games again this year

Maynardville is very winnable. Soddy Daisy is probably a toss-up. First two weeks against Austin East and Karns will be a big indication whether or not this team will win more than 1 game.

The word of the day at William Blount is Whale.
Shad told Mr. Cupp that he will come back and coach next year under the condition that he is paid Whale.

Well. Season is over. It’s now time to see what Hunt will do. We will find out in the next couple of months.

Seems like that door is probably closed. What would they do with Derek Hunt in that scenario?
Could do many things

GQ would never coach at any East TN high school again other than Maryville.

All of this is setting up for a GQ return to Maryville

High school coaching and college coaching are very different. College coaching and NFL coaching are also very different. Look at Saban and Spurrier, those guys were excellent college football coaches but terrible in the NFL. Quarles is a great high school football coach. Doesn’t appear to be as good in the college game. Nothing wrong with that either. HS is his forte’

I will take the Rebels 24-14

Both of those are solid names but don’t be surprised if it is Joe Osovet

Both Matthews and Shadowens will split time as head honcho. I have heard through the grapevine that they will have different roles. Matthews will be the CEO, a.k.a. chief executive officer, he will handle everything that has to deal with discipline and off field issues, especially drugs and alcohol related, and Shad will be the chief financial officer (CFO.) He will manage the team’s finances.
What could go wrong
