Coalfield and Greenback punched their tickets for sectionals today. Coalfield winning the region beating Oakdale 4-3 yesterday beating Greenback 6-0 today. Greenback beat Oneida 10-0 yesterday and then beat Oakdale 8-7 today with a walk off in the 7th inning after being down 7-0 going into the 4th inning. Both teams have a shot to make it to state, but Greenback will have to get past University High.

How do you see the University High and Greenback game going? Assuming University makes it out of the region.

I’m hearing Eagleville have been dq for using a shaved bat anybody know if this is true?

I’m following up on a real rumor that’s going around the other classifications, but thanks for your input.

The state tournament brackets are out.. Eagleville at home vs. probably the worst team there on paper. “Blind draw” seems more and more like a lie every year. I have always been curious why it is done behind closed doors. Who do you have winning it?

Eagleville beats bradly. Coalfield beats LV. Eagleville beats coalfield and as long as they have decent pitching they make it to the final. Shame they get to play at home till the final. The other side seems like gordonsville beats Peabody. Don’t know much about Mackenzie though. Had a close call with an average Moore county but other than that I don’t know much of their other competition. Id say that bracket is won by deepest pitching staff.

  4. Uh with an 11-1 win over Greenback. Will make it to their fourth consecutive state tournament. Pretty shocked by LV win. Anyone know anything about The scores that haven’t been reported yet?

They're gonna have to get the bats rolling. Hampton has a fine 1A pitching staff, with 3 solid pitchers, another extremely serviceable pitcher, and 2 more very decent throwers. But none of them are an ace type arm. So of they expect to come back home with a victory, they're gonna have to win in a 7-5 or 8-6 type of ballgame. They're aren't gonna win a 2-1 type of game.

    That's my .02.

Pitching will be subpar. Coalfield will play clean and Hampton will not. Coalfield will win by 5 plus runs

I've seen NG and Hampton quite a bit this season. I've been less impressed with NG. That's not to say they won't make substate, though. They have the better #1, and I think they field the ball a smidge better. But Hampton has the better bats, and better depth in the rotation. In a double elimination format, I think I'd give Hampton the advantage, IMO.

D1 update UH beats Unaka 19-0 in the first round. NG and Hampton due up.

Well the order may be a little different, but both CoachT and the TBCA agree on 9 out of 10 teams in single A. The 2 teams that don’t match are at the bottom of the polls . It will be interesting to see how many of these 11 make the state tournament. It would be impressive if 1/2 of these schools make it.

    Eaglesville: TBCA 1, CoachT 1

    Coalfield: TBCA 2, CoachT: 5

    Gordonsville: TBCA 3, CoachT: 7

    McKenzie: TBCA 4, CoachT 2

    Hampton: TBCA 5, CoachT 6

Sale Creek: TBCA 6, CoachT 3

    Peabody: TBCA 7, CoachT 9

    Dresden: TBCA 8, CoachT 4

East Robertson: TBCA 9, CoachT 10

    Greenback: TBCA 10, CoachT NR

University High: TBCA NR, CoachT 8

Point being, it’s seems as though the only thing that matters in the CT rankings is pure win loss record. Which obviously you have to win to be a good team but it can also be very misleading. It’s interesting to take the time to look at actual schedules.

Last year their was a lot of talk about Summertown and Lake co winning it all because they had good records but played nobody. ER shut out both of them and dominated the whole tournament. This year I feel like it will be the same except eagleville seems to be legit. Hope both of them end up on opposite sides and play each other for it all.

ER has a couple pretty poor losses don’t they?

  9. First off, does anyone have Info on how the site ones their rankings? Second, what rankings do we think are the most Incorrect?

The single A rankings seems pretty out of whack.

With the regular season coming to an end and district tournament play getting close to starting. Who is your favorites to make a run to Murfreesboro?

University School and either Hampton or NG should both be playing in a sectional game. District 2 is not very good. My guess is UH will host either coalfield or Greenback in sectionals.

To be frank, I believe UH is looking head and shoulders better than NG right now. They've already got wins over East and Volunteer. In fact, I'd hazard to say UH might be the best 1A team east of District 8.

Don't get me wrong, NG is solid, but they look very pedestrian compared to last year. I wouldn't be completely surprised if Hampton doesn't split with them in the regular season. They didn't lose much off of the team that was a couple pitches away from eliminating UH in Districts last year.

Correct me if I am wrong but Hampton lost to UH during the regular a season by a combined 21-3 last season. That DT game seems like an outlier to me. With that being said, it’s hard to say what Hampton and NG have, as they haven’t faced much competition so far this season. I still believe which ever team finishes second in the DT will have a great shot at playing in a sectional game.
