Honestly? Your guess is as good as mine. Center Grove is similar to Oakland in that they have dominated Class 6A in Indiana, winning 3 consecutive titles. They also have a 3/4 star qb committed to Duke and they're not gonna be happy after St. Edward beat them up pretty good.

I do think it's a good move on Creasy's part leaving Thursday night. Kind of a shame that this is only a 1yr contract. TN doesn't get enough of these elite teams coming in.

Gut feeling is Center Grove wins, but I felt the same way when Oakland went to MRA and they had their way with them

It's a great experience for Oakland kids to travel like a college team does leaving day before to get isolated and focused on the game. Great team building experience and should be a great game.  I have friend son played with Center Grove few years ago said they have a RB playing at UCLA that was his teammate.

What's Creasy supposed to do? Say sorry were full?!

Oakland, Blackman, and Riverdale have all benefitted by transfers in a big way. Oakland is just the only one that can take that talent and win titles with it

    https://ghsfha.org/w/Special:THSFHS/coach/records/Kevin_Creasy

15-0 his 1st season as a HC. I'd say he knows how to win whether he's loaded or in 1A ball like Trousdale was

Great players want to compete and improve skill set, so who can blame these kids everyday in practice your competing against top talent. Oakland backfield was already set with great talent, kid wants to compete.  I admire the kid for pushing himself in a competitive position. Staying in Chattanooga would have been easy already a 4 star prospect. Good luck to him. Creasy doesn't have to recruit these kids, they want to compete at top program in the state, so they show up.

    agreed.

also, I just read over the rules and I did not see where students cannot move for athletic purposes.  as long as they are actually moving, it appears they can go for any reason they want.  i did see that schools cannot promote their athletic programs separately from the rest of the school.  is that what you are thinking about?

I think it is interesting that high schools provide social media marking materials to transfers much like colleges do.

Kids can pay 20 bucks online service does it for them.

    Going to LA from DCA?

He would have to sit out a season, not outside 20 mile as the crow flies from current school. If he stays private Chattanooga only private school he would eligible. He has offers from AL and LSU already , I'd say mission accomplished!

There are a lot of articles over the past week about kids transferring all around the state. You hear 2 sides with one saying this is proof of the end times and the world may soon end and the other saying let the kids go where they want.  You hear kids are transferring for NIL and that other schools are calling kids getting them to do this. Kids are not transferring for NIL nor are schools calling them.  However kids are leaving for what they view as better opportunities. Many have a dream of SEC or college football and they are leaving bc they feel these other schools can help them get there. Does not mean they are always right but that's the driving reason. No one wants to discuss the state of many HS programs in the state.  Teams that rarely train in the weight room, speed train,  not capable of legitimate passing offense and struggle to score in 7v7 w no pads on, teams with out qualified coaches at the skill positions, and lastly programs that do little to nothing to help there players get recruited.  Point being this is not all on selfish kids and parents or crazy boosters.  A lot of it is but not all. For some kids right or wrong they view football is there way out of there current circumstance. Bc of this it means more to them than others. If there program is not structured in such a way to develop them for college is causes concern.  This is far from 100% but is a real issue.

The other is the TSSA that no one wants to discuss.  You have kids openly saying in interviews they transferred to win a championship or to go to a school to help them get recruited. Transferring for athletic purposes even if you move the 22 miles is a non qualifier.  There are numerous quotes in the papers of kids saying these things only to get there waiver approved.  This issue will get worse as the gap between public and private widens and until TSSA does something about it.

Schools that don't like what is happening need to take a real look at there programs and say are we doing everything we can to develop these young men.  On the other side private schools need to take a real look at what they are doing and say does this fit our culture and mission. Are we chasing championships or are we truly trying to build young men into the best versions of themselves.

What does everyone think the reason for all these transfers is?  Not just BA as this is not a new thing.

Agree with you on developing kids , LA great example . Like TD or not Lipscomp indoor/ outdoor training facility has built as many kids for other programs as LA's own. Small schools don't have numbers to make football year round like bigger programs . Few schools have spring football, 7 on 7 teams, can't punish kids for pursuing  dreams and sometimes that may mean leaving . You also may find you are not as a big of fish as you and your family thought you were in the bigger pond.

  6. Large Private schools are going to change TN high school football forever in next 3 years. If these schools are hiring positions solely to handle NIL futures, no public school or small private schools will be able to compete with the BA , Ensworth, MBA, etc. The ability to fund raise for these kids will set the bar where no program but the elite financial private schools will thrive . Kids will be willing to sit out a year if necessary to go get NIL deal at bigger private school. The public and small private schools will be cherry picked every year. NIL is already taking place kids leaving top programs to go to big private schools with lower ranking nationally and state wide. Why? $$. If NCAA can't handle it asking TSSAA is absurd. BA took TN from 3 Division State Champions to 9 State Champions watering down the entire State ? Now what different leagues?

  7. Power clean maybe one of the most important lifts for football. Does need to be taught by well credited strength coach . Visit best programs college and high school and you will see it taking place.

Let me start by saying that I personally disagree with the dead period and feel that it punishes the programs that wish to outwork their competition.  With that being said the "DEAD PERIOD" is here to stay in Tennessee.  However, if we must have it why not take the first two (2) weeks of June off or the last two weeks before beginning Fall training camp?  As it stands the teams work hard and in the middle of the offseason, they are forced to take a two-week break.  My preference would be to take the last two weeks before preseason practice begins.

Agree, plus most college camps are not available during this window which is a time kids should go for evaluation and work .

I think they really liked dilfer and bought into what he was selling but am not totally sure.  4 schools in 5 years probably says it all.

he's a really nice kid and I hope he finds what he or his parents are looking for.  he's a heck of an athlete, too.

How many Dilfer Dimes left LA? I thought Cooper kid played on varsity last season?

  10. 3 minutes ago, MichaelMyers76 said:

Actually this is false. If you attend a school, like Lipscomb, which has the 8th grade under the same leadership as the middle school you are eligible for varsity play as an 8th grader and then have 10 semesters of varsity play. However, once the clock starts it cannot stop. If the student in question has already been in 8th grade or above already the clock started then.

If your kid plays one snap as 8th grader on varsity team, they are under same rules as a 9-12 grader on transfer eligibility.

  11. 1 hour ago, Swipes said:

The rule is you can't turn 19 on or before August 1st no matter when you get held back, so it would depend on when the kid was born and what grade he currently is in (you have 8 semesters once you enter 9th grade)

Spot on , additionally if he holds in 7th or 8th with a beneficial birthday that Swipes stated above he still has to sit his 8th grade year or his freshman year in TN. Athlete has 12 semesters of eligibility from 7-12 in TN. Most sit 8th grade.

I think it’s a great idea to split the two positions. That’s too many responsibilities for one person.

I heard it’s down to two finalists. One in house and one outside guy.

    Both former BA guys?

  13. I was curious on schools success of winning Mr Football . I took last 6 years 17-22 since new format began in 17 . I used schools who won the award and schools with more than one finalist in the six year period. 1A- South Pitt 4 finalist 1 winner, Greenback HS 2/2, Coalfield 1/1 ,Peabody 1/1 included in 2A category  as well , McKenzie 2/1, Fayetteville HS 2/0, Huntingdon HS 2/0. 2A -Meigs County 5 finalist 1 winner, Peabody 2/2, Tyner 2/1, Waverly 1/1, Westview 1/1, Fairley 2/0. 3A- Alcoa 6 finalist 4 winners, ,Raleigh1/1, Stratford 1/1, PC 3/0 also in 4A, Fairview 2/0. 4A- Greeneville 4 finalist 2 winners, Elizabethton 2/1,Nolensville1/1, Fulton 1/1, PC 1/1, Anderson Co 3/0, Hardin Co 2/0. 5A- Karns 2 finalist 2 winners, David Crockett 2/1, South Doyle1/1, Fulton 1/1, Knox Cath 1/1, Summit 2/0 also in 6A. 6A- Summit 2 finalist 1 winner, Riverdale1/1, Cane Ridge 1/1, Houston 1/1,Warren Co 1/1, Smyrna 1/1, Oakland 2/0 DC (double check) that one wow. DivII-A Davidson Academy 4 finalist 2 winners, Nashville Christian 4/1, USJ2/1  , MTCS 1/1, Clarksville Academy 1/1, Fayette 2/0, DCA 2/0. DivII-AA Lipscomb 3 finalist 2 winners, Lausanne 2/2, ECS 3/2, CPA 3/0,ND 2/0. DivII-AAA Christian Brothers 4 finalist 3 winners, Briarcrest Christian 5/1,MUS 1/1, MBA 1/1, Baylor 2/0, McCallie 2/0. Looking at the stats Alcoa has had 33% of finalist and 22% win award but they do dominate 3A . Meigs County and Briarcrest 28% of finalist in each schools division .South Pitt, Greeneville, Christian Brothers ,DA, Nashville Christian each had 22% of the finalist. Summit and PC also had 4 finalist in combine 2 Divisions . DivII-A DA(now AA) and Nashville Christian have been almost 50% of finalist. DivII-AAA Briarcrest and Christian Brothers 50% of finalist. I know link started over Mr Bishop and Mr Dowell both studs! Mr Dowell shouldn't feel bad last year runner up was #1 prospect in our great state  . Good luck to both you guys in your careers.

That is correct.  Contrary to popular belief it's not an award given to those who receive the most "votes".  Media and coaches nominate individuals, and those nominations are tabulated and then the semi-finalists selected. From there an independent committee makes the selection, and none of those can have any ties to schools or nominees.

    It's not a popular vote.

Independent committee is TSSAA? Thanks again for your insite.

OK, so explain to me how Mr. Football is selected.

I am aware of how it is done.  Don't believe that most people, are, however.

First off have no dog in the fight but I watched this one bc of kid from White Co amazing stats and team making 1st playoff run. Kid from Karns is D1 talent. Spears responded to a lady on Twitter with factual info, she said based on lack of coverage and Spears put the link up showing Tennessean did a big piece on White Co RB which is how I learned of his accomplishments. I would appreciate more of your knowledge on like committee of media( how many, locations region. Where would confirmation of academics and character come? Nominee coach wouldn't suggest his player if he lacked these qualities. Or are nominations not made by players coach/school?

Tell us more.  Feel free to provide evidence for your conspiracies.

Just my thoughts no conspiracy, Spears replied to a lady last night on Twitter about the award is also academic and character. Does any of these media outlets know these kids grades or character issues ?

People and TSSAA can say that they only use the regular season to chose but I'm not buying it. 60% of the winners' team won the state(1,2,3A) and it really seemed like Latham was passed on so that the 'regular season" aspect of this award could be preserved. Just my take

I agree many things said in past don't apply - post season doesn't count , really like finalist to be upper classman (Freshman made it) ,must play complete season (couple guys missed 3-4 weeks), schools record doesn't matter, same schools seem to have winners. Schools with multiple finalist should split the vote but seems one of two is a lock.
