  1. My Highlanders travel west this Friday to take on a tough Clay County team. I'm really looking forward to this trip to Celina as I used to date a one armed girl from there back in the day. She was drop dead gorgeous and could shoot a shotgun better than any guy I know. The things that she could do with that one arm. Oh well, anybody got any predictions on how this game might go?

We've struggled pretty good lately, but we haven't stopped fighting. Our offensive production has been non-existent the last few games. We do play better on the road and hopefully we can score some points on this tiny 1A school.

  2. I admit it. We played bad. Had some new guys on the field for the first time in front of an electric atmosphere. We go on the road this week, which I think will actually help us calm down a bit. We are learning a new scheme, but we are getting there. I like our new coach. We appreciate the people that came from Coalfield. Definitely a good group of people except the one armed guy that gave me the finger. Good luck this season! I still think we get to 3-5 wins which would be huge for us right now.

  3. Best roster we've had since 2017. Also Coach Harris has brought some new energy to our program. We are going to be physical once again, and I love it. Coalfield has the advantage of already playing. May take a little time to get us going, but this has the makings of a old school slobber knocker.

    I'm going Scott-12, Coalfield-6.

    Thoughts? :popcorneater:

I would watch get the popcorn comment. I remember what happened to Lane Kiffin when he used that comment.

We've struggled recently especially in 4A, but we feel this roster can get 3-4 wins this year. That would be a big deal for us. We would have won a few games last year if we could have gotten them transfers eligible, but the T$$AA screwed us. Word is we still got one on the team that should be ready to go. He's fast. His brother moved back to Atlanta with his dad. Rumor is he got into some trouble and is in prison. I hope not, but his brother will bring a much needed speed element to our football team. I look forward to a good clean game.

It will be a long night if we don't clean up the penalties this week.

You got that right. It will be a long night for Coalfield. We've got perhaps one of the better rosters that we've had in a while. Young running behind that bog offensive line led by Stanley will be fun to watch. We may have another trick up our sleeves as well. Get the popcorn..... :popcorneater:

Yeah, mass exodus of seniors from ‘97 to ‘98 in Celina.  It kinda kick started a run of two decades of subpar football that often had the Dawgs playing in the toughest region in A.  Concerning speed this year, I’m not worried about it.  You’ll see why come Friday.

You're right. I will see tomorrow night. Looking forward to watching us beat another subpar Celina team.

These teams have only met on two prior occasions, those coming in ‘97 and ‘98.  Scott won both and the Highlanders were as physical a team as there was around back then.  Fast forward to modern day and this Clay team is as good as they’ve fielded in 30 years in terms of completeness.  I just don’t see how the Dawgs don’t get it done in this one.  Someone commented on here that Clay’s defense was suspect, I’d like to know the reasoning behind that thought.  Two of the biggest thumpers are out this week but with this bunch it’s the small guys that you better watch out for.  44 and 3 can hit with the best of em.

Yes sir. We beat a good Celina team 44-21 in '97. We thought it would be a tough, physical game in Celina the next year, but it was the opposite. Ole Jeffers ran for 3 touchdowns as we cruised to a 42-0 win. That's part of the reason that I'm confident heading into tomorrow night. Congrats on your thumpers defensively, but you can't hit what you can't catch.

2 good players will def help!

Much needed speed. I ran into one of the assistant coaches at Flonnies last night, and I asked him about the new additions. He just looked at me and smiled. Tells me all I need to know. Looking forward to Friday!

I hope you’re right. I’ll be pulling for y’all but all reports are Clay is as good as, maybe better than, Coalfield. Wasn’t aware of any transfers so yes should help if they can contribute. What positions / where from?

I believe they are juniors (twins). Mom was a professor at Morehouse College, but she took a job at Roane state recently. I don't know what positions, but they look fast and should definitely help us. I think It helps that we are breaking them in against a 1A team.

Exactly my thoughts  the only thing Scott has over clay county this year is enrolment  but I believe if Scott played in 3a and didn't get moved up to 4a into that brutal division their record would be a bit better

Bingo! The move to 4A has been a tough transition, but we are still fighting. That's why we get back on track against 1A Clay.

I am an Oneida guy and Scott is right bout 5-6 miles down the road from Oneida. Scott high is not very good this year and doesn’t have much depth if any at all. Your 28-14 score prediction is a very generous one. If Clay County is as good as talked about and the receivers and QB are as good as advertised then this game will be over by 3rd qtr. I’m curious to watch this Clay County team in person since Oneida is off I’ll be Watchin.

I've seen Clay on film. Their schedule so far is charmin soft. They do have a solid combo of QB-Wr's but that defense isn't very good. Scott wins. Getting those transfers eligible this week will make a huge difference.

  12. We've had our struggles, but this team is getting better (and yes we have athletes). Friday night: I'm going 4A over 1A. Throw out the records. They simply haven't played the competition that we have. We've faced adversity this year through covid, youth, and special team miscues. We can't give up 3 blocked punts and win. Our boys know that. Good news is little birdie told me that the twins that just moved in from the Atlanta area will be eligible this week. So, we probably won't be punting  lol. Coach Terry will have the boys ready.
