They already look like fools. HVA came open at the same time and have hired their man. Now they're competing with Oak Ridge for worthwhile applicants. I can tell you this although they both wear maroon one of those schools is a much better job.

Didn't one beat the other this year?

Could you be talking about a former OC that now works at an FCS school in California? @RPohnO

I have no idea. Based on your quote, that would be UC Davis guy. Does he plan to come back? That seems like going the wrong direction. I still think they should just hire me, someone who handles money all day long, keep the teaching/school employment part out of it.

Internal would be a huge mistake. You don't promote an assistant from a 4-6 team to be the HC.

I get ya. The results haven't been great. But that doesn't necessarily mean the program was in bad shape. If administration feels the foundation of the program is solid but needs a slightly different direction, I could see an internal hire being an easy decision. At a school that clearly values academics over football, the opportunity to keep a large portion of staff member in tact, not have to worry about "creating positions", and allow some sort of continuity for the players seems like a choice this administration might make. I don't think an internal hire would do WORSE. I don't know. Guess we will see

Any offense would be better than what they had this past year. When they came to play West the defense had to stop our offense and score to win, the offense didn't get off the bus in most of their games.

For sure. It wasn't good at all.

I imagine that like with any head coaching change, there will be some turnover with the assistant coaches. Whether they choose to find a teaching/coaching job elsewhere, choose to keep their teaching job and coach at another school or just be done with coaching/take a year off and evaluate. This would allow for some movement of new assistant coaches into the program. Holdover assistants just don't usually have a ton of responsibility.

For sure. If the HC was an offensive minded guy, last year's OC would probably leave, which opens up a spot for the new guy to bring his own DC. I get all that.

I have stated this since the early pages of this thread. It is very unlikely that a new HC is named and he keeps the current OC/DC at Bearden. If they were so great, the team wouldn't have finished 4-6. It is not common for new HC's to have holdover coaches in critical roles like OC/DC.

I mean, I get you, but the new HC isn't going to be able to bring his/her own coordinators unless those individuals are cool teaching somewhere else and coaching at Bearden. I could totally see an offensive minded HC come into Bearden and tell the defense to stay the course. The wins/losses don't show it, but this is statistically the best defense Bearden has had in a while. Had the offense had a pulse, there are 2, maybe more, additional wins.

Calling out play calling in a game where they scored 26 points and an offense that is averaging 36 points per game. Yeah... that sounds reasonable. Get your head out of your you know what and wake up dawgs.

There is a difference between 5A and 6A football. I think it is totally reasonable to be skeptical of hiring a 5A offensive coordinator to come be a head coach at a 6A program and expect similar offensive success. HOWEVER. If this coach averaged just 6 points less at Bearden (30), they may have gone 9-1 and a 2 seed in the playoffs. So maybe, if the DC stayed, the Central coach could do enough for Bearden to start winning now?

Not so fast Fox! All people want to talk about are locals. You may have out of state coaches or coaches from surrounding counties wanting to come to the area.

Come to Knoxville. We don't have a teaching position to offer you. We'd like you to play nice with the current football staff. We can't pay you very well. Oh and you need to beat Maryville, Bradley, and Farragut on a consistent basis. This sounds like a dream come true for any out of state hire!!

Interesting. The current DC would be a great choice. He's young, but his defense did a great job. He's also a fine young man. My son played with Mickey at West many years ago and we thought highly of him.

Speaking of West, Scott Cummings should also be a top prospect. He knows how to build up a program and has tremendous success in multiple schools.

The two of them on the same staff would be dynamite!

Two names I keep see coming up in different coaching searches are Rusty Bradley and Scott Cummings. Are they both offensive minded? Bearden has run the spread the last few years, how does that compare with these two coaches. If Mickey? would stay with the hire of an offensive minded guy, that would definitely be interesting.
