Agreed.
I'll give Lowe credit, his guys were focused and they didn't do very much jawing tonight. That was a welcome sight. I doubt these guys can beat a team like West, but if they get them in the playoffs, hopefully they can make it interesting.
I agree West looks really tough but I like how Powell matches up with them. Powell had no issue offensively against them last year in the playoffs but losing both Nolen brothers is tough. Would need them firing on all cylinders to have a chance.

Just replayed that last play by Catholic on offense. Saw two receivers for them start early. How refs didn’t catch that is beyond me.

Wow, I have no idea how the refs didn't blow that play dead for a false start. The WR didn't even run his route because he knew he stepped early.
And Powell picks off the pass. Ball game.
Feel good after the crazy loss last year to them and now the refs doing all they can to help Catholic from my perspective.

So who's the Catholic assistant that has been mouthing off to Greene non-stop?
I’ve noticed that too. Can’t believe refs can’t tell but we can from this far away from the action.
-
Maybe I’m wrong but a lot of these PI calls on Powell have been uncatchable balls. Is there no exception in high school ball?

It was bizarre. #19 goes to ground with the ball, and the WR stands over him and tries the rip the ball away. The trailing official is so out of position, I have no idea if he even saw the play as it happened.
That’s how I felt about the missed interception Soles had. A ref that couldn’t see called incompletion. It may have been but the ref had no way of telling.

#19 has been called for a few. Two of them looked like great defensive plays to me.
Looks like 19 got a pick and the receiver stole it away. Powell got called for unsportsmanlike conduct but I saw a Catholic player flexing towards the Powell players. Maybe I’m a little biased but refs aren’t helping Powell out.

Catholic should just keep running go routes and throwing deep. Powell can't cover it. Powell leads 21-19 with 11 min to play.
They’ve been getting a lot of questionable PI calls as well so I agree.

That was a huge hit. Another reason why you don't quit on a play.
Powell with another TD, this time it's Wheeler. Powell leads 21-9 late in the 3rd.
I saw Miami (The U) offered Soles earlier this week. I know Tennessee has tons of edge talent coming in but he plays with a lot of heart gotta love it.

Man Steven Soles can hit stick. Feel bad for the Catholic running back there. Looks like soles recovered the fumble too. Surprised UT has yet to offer him

Catholic helping Powell a lot tonight by dropping easy passes.

Catholic blocks a short FG at the end of the half. They lead Powell 9-7. Been a pretty good game so far.
Could’ve sworn Wheeler got in for Powell towards the end of the half. Couldn’t really tell by the DCM viewpoint though.

One of the best plays I’ve seen by Powell this year with Magdos dragging the entire Catholic team down the field. Leads to a TD 7-6 Powell. Steven Soles looking like a power 5 recruit bringing pressure and batting down passes. Not sure why Catholic doesn’t use their big UT commit on the o-line?

Looked like a pretty bad leg injury to the RB Vaughn. Looked very similar to the Powell defensive players injury earlier in the year. Prayers and thoughts are with him.
Maybe not as serious as it looked at first. Couldn’t tell but the ad break didn’t last long so maybe he got up and will be okay.

Stream is doing fine for me on diamond clear media. If you can bare the ads and confusing commentary at times. The West police siren going off is pretty annoying as well.

Everybody knows that JJ is the best recruiter out there at hs level. It's not rumors, it is what it is.
He would be a perfect fit for Catholic for a number of reasons. Is JJ one and done at Bearden? Enurstin'
Wouldn’t surprise me if that happens in the future but with all the freshman/transfers that are at Bearden now I’m sure he is looking to compete with the Maryville and Oakland. As long as the school doesn’t require him to be a teacher just be hired on to help the football program.

This game is just about bragging rights so no need to risk injury to anyone.
I see Catholic winning. I saw a good coached team last year even with Powell’s great d-line they got the ball out quick and made good decisions.
-
Was it really just 50-0 in the first quarter?

Everyone clawing for attention from West at this point. Nolensville deserves some looks I suppose.
Yea I give West the edge right now just based off total strength of schedule.
2. Nolensville. Heard some predict them going to state vs Powell in the preseason
3. Page
4. Munford since they have a pretty weak schedule.

Looks like Nolensville will move up to maybe the #2 spot even though that could’ve gone either way.

The offensive side of the ball has completely been depleted by injuries. Like my buddy ORCat says, though, it is what it is. Bearden basically played a full strength OR team, there’s your difference.
Yup I think the injuries made them lose their mojo as well. They really haven’t had bad losses except this game. Losing to 6a schools who are on the rise and defending state champs in Powell and now a 4a power house. I heard Powell’s coach saying he wants to meet whoever makes their schedules cause they aren’t doing them any favor. I think you could say the same about OR.

After how Oak ridge looked against Bearden I thought they would have a better season. Not sure what’s all going on but they’ve had a tough schedule with Farragut Bearden and Powell compared to Greeneville who has a negative strength of schedule. Still tough to lose the way they have lately.

Powell leads 44-29 early in the 4th. A few observations tonight:
- CC QB is an accurate passer, when he has time to throw. Has some good WRs too.
- CC overall team speed is dwarfed by the Panthers.
- Powell continues to be fooled by the onside kick. And teams keep taking advantage every single week. Still wondering when Lowe will adjust.
- It took almost 3 full quarters before the Panther defense decided to stop playing straight man coverage in the secondary.
- Powell has yet to get out of their own way this entire season. Still too many turnovers, too many mistakes in short yardage situations, and way too many bad penalties.
I just don't see this team beating someone as complete as West. They just aren't as cohesive this season, and it seems like Lowe has been outcoached a lot this year. I know they've had to navigate a lot of injuries, but I'm just amazed at the fundamental things they continue to struggle with in mid-October.
Yup I agree with pretty much everything you say.
If Powell wants a chance they can’t have any turnovers and all the bad penalties that bring back big plays.
looks like #8 showed up today been pretty impressed by him today. Needed someone to step up to compliment Soles or else teams can just game plan all around him.
Round 1 Powell (8-2) vs Ooltewah (1-9)
in Class 5A & Class 6A
Posted
Very similar start as last years playoffs for Powell as they have Ooltewah with 1 district win traveling up.
Winner faces either Karns or Walker Valley.
Thoughts or predictions?
