  1. SF takes 1A region 7 title from Greenfield. Greenfield has a tremendous team. SF is just peaking at the right time and it looks like coach Lee has loosened the reins. I think both these teams are going to go into Murfreesboro as underdogs in 1A and will surprise some folks.

  2. I agree with 1A being wide open. I think it’s going to come down to who hot at the end of the season.
I also agree that 2 Disrtict 14 teams will make it to the Boro. I believe it’ll be Union City, South Fulton, or Greenfield. UC and Greenfield have scrappy teams and a couple girls that can go. SF should have an edge with a ton of experience on the floor but they haven’t put it all together yet and have struggled early this season. They took a step in the right direction tonight with a district win over Union City.
To me Wayne Co is the team to beat. Can’t count out McKenzie with their dynamic duo either.

End of 3rd qtr and Huntingdon is dismantling the defending state champion South Side 44-19

It looked like SS lost a lot from last years team when saw them this summer. I watched them play in Murfreesboro last year. I think they lost a lot of size.

I think everyone kinda forgot about Peabody. This is a team that returns 6 kids that’s been to the state tournament 2 outa the last 3 years.. Working in a couple decent freshmen looks like with those 6 gives them a solid group. They will be very tough especially after first of the year when Coach Harts teams usually start playing their best basketball. Should be a tough tough district battle this year with new district!

Trenton is not in South Fulton’s class this year but they haven’t forgot about Peabody. Their last second shot in last year’s regional game that prevented SF from going to state left a bitter taste in their mouth and is their driving force this year. They were young and athletic. I’m sure they’ll be even better this year. I doubt the other 2a teams in your region has forgot about them either. Good luck this year.

South Gibson lost a lot from last year - 3 starters were seniors and a fourth starter went down with an ACL this summer.  Playing a lot of kids that didn't play much last year.  They'll get better as the season progresses.  They can't compete with Dyersburg, but the rest of that district and region is average or worse.  South Gibson could get to a sectional game at Covington, Millington or Melrose with a shot to go back to the state tournament.

Side note on South Gibson: I saw their middle school team at Wayne County this summer.  They have some impressive talent coming in next year.

South Gibson had a knee injury last night before half time. Hopefully it wasn’t too bad. They seem to have a short bench

South Gibson got beat by Trenton and struggled with Union City last night. But like we all know it early

I watched South Gibson play UC. It looked like they were going to dominate that game early but UC came out the second half playing a lot harder. SG has got some talent. They can handle the ball well and they have big athletic post player.  They have the ability to shoot you out of the gym too. #14 hit like 7 3s against SF in a scrimmage. UC plays hard but they seem to get frustrated easy but it’s early. I’m sure they’ll work that out and be trouble for everyone in the district

  7. I’m sure Wayne Co and McKenzie are looking to 3 peat state finals. Who ya got?

Games of note last from last night. Sounded like Greenfield played with but got beat by a very good USJ team.
Picket County beat by Cumberland County. CC must be solid.
South Fulton beats a good McEwen team.

  8. We scrimmaged them in 5 or 6 - 10 minute games and beat them bad last year with Amari but I was surprised too when I watched them this summer. They were very active on defense and seemed to be playing harder. I agree they look to be on the right track. It’ll be an another fun year in our district. Yes the Christmas tournament looks to be very competitive which is exactly what we need going into district play. Good luck this year.

Dyersburg is good and probably the number 1 team in state in AAA. They are really good. Gibson County without their best defender in Maya Turner for the day. Also most of their whole team been playing volleyball and soccer so we will get back in a groove. Lost to a really good USJ team by 1 in OT. Was our 4th and their 1st. Dyersburg it was our 2nd and their 1st. Dyersburg really good but I don't put a whole lot of value in play day scrimmages early in the year either way. Dyersburg is really good and a favorite to win a Gold Ball. Gibson County is a lot better than they played. Would love to see these two play later in the year.

I saw where Gibson County was also scheduled to play Union City today. How did UC handle the ball pressure without Amari?

Nobody is mentioning the Huntingdon Fillies. There's a lot of talent on the roster. They can be a factor if they can play poised and under control. Played very up and down this summer. On another note our middle school has the most talent I've ever seen them have. 6th, 7th & 8th grade grades are all loaded with big-time talent.

Yeah I forgot about them. I watched one of their games last year. They looked good. Had some length too. Did they lose any starters?

Dyersburg playing without 2 starters gets younger kids some valuable experience for later on

Yep. Exactly why I said it’s just camp. I see Dyersburg going far this year

Peabody was very good and very solid on D.  In JC game Peabody hit every 3 they took well into 2nd half and JC couldn't hit anything.  Peabody was the better team, but JC was playing their 3rd game of the day and one of the starters was out with injury from previous game.  Pretty sure that was Peabody's first game of the day.  JC lost other 2 earlier games to Southside (by 3) and South Fulton by single digits.  JC has improved a lot and Shutes has them playing pretty well.  If shooting keeps improving, they should be pretty competitive.

Playing the 2nd or 3rd game makes a difference. They’re playing on fumes at that point. I think JCS is a well balanced team and played against SF better than Dyersburg. But I’d never say I thought Dyersburg wasn’t any good. I know better. Like someone said earlier, camp is not a good measuring stick. I’m betting JCS will have a good season

Hearing Peabody girls have had a really good summer! First 5-6 girls can play, working 3-4 younger ones in to get them ready for the season! Hearing defense is the best it’s been and scoring is coming along for them. I’ve seen them play JCS and Lexington at UTM and wasn’t a game in either of them, very impressed with them. I figured JCS would be a lot better.   If Peabody can  figure the scoring out they can be dangerous this coming season. They go to Dyersburg this week then Murray State to finish up the summer I believe. Talk is one of the best groups to come thru Peabody over the last few years, but time will tell. Very tough district this year for them moving up to double A after being barely over the cut off. Good luck to all the teams finishing up this week!

Did Peabody lose anyone from last years team? They were tough last year.

They have to learn to play together. Right now it looks more like each of them want their own points. I just didn’t think they were clicking the times I have seen them play. That will work for most games but they will have to figure it out to be successful for the season

They looked like a totally different team when they pressed. It kept their tempo up and points were made by working hard and getting the steals. Once they realized our guard could handle the pressure, they pulled back. Which slowed their tempo down and looked a little sluggish. Once they get it figured out they will be extremely tough.
