  1. That one foul didn't decide the whole game. Hart only had about 6 pts? Cantrell was struggling tonight too but still highest scorer. The little freshman did her part and #30 held mcminns #5 very well. Gc just didn't play their best all around. But hopefully someone will step up next year in Cantrell place and they'll be back next year. Good luck to WV in the champs!

Never know if the officials let Trenton play football. If it's a tightly called game,McKenzie should win.But if the officials let them play like I saw a few games.Could be closer.

It's very close right now. Peabody has 4 charges already. It's been close but I think turning in mckenzie direction now.

I think Coach Wilkins has seven really good ball players that he plays. Hard to make them all happy sometimes. But Maya is a great player and person. I think sometimes when things are going well this time of year he rolls with it.

Not about making anyone happy. And I'm sure she's a great kid. The only kid I know personally on GC right now sits the bench. I just know as a coach, I'm not changing the formula I had that won the only game against a team I played. Its what coaching and developing your best should be about. Good luck to the girls the rest of the way through. I haven't seen Loretto play since Karly left so I'm outta the loop. I'm sure it will be a tough game.

He seemed like he wasn’t pleased with #30 tonight. She didn’t start back in the lineup after the half and she was sitting at the very end of the bench. I wondered what was up with that myself.  Then when the little freshman guard fouled out then he put her in and said told her to go play hard for him which made me think he wasn’t happy with her effort in the first half

She had some huge rebounds and deflections in the first quarter and the few min played in 2.  Even the two broadcasts were very complimentary of her. If he wasn't happy with that effort, then he's expecting way more of her than  Again...I think the formula last game was it to beat westview and he got it wrong tonight.

I wasn’t at the Huntington/GC game the other night so can’t comment on it but can agree with your comment about Wilkins. He is not a favorite of mine from a fan standpoint. I watched him tonight clap sarcastically at the referee when he made a call that he felt like he should make like “finally”. It’s very tacky! I have also witnessed him commenting directly at the other team’s coach during a game. Doesn’t look good. Now do I think he is a good coach with IQ…yes! But not a fan of his demeanor with referees and other coaches. I have seen players start acting like their coach does towards referees and it gets ugly then

I am definitely not Daddy Wilkins biggest fan, but I wouldn't call him tacky. He knows how to work the refs to his teams advantage. He has pretty high basketball iq and appears to be a good guy, BUT He does make questionable decisions that I think cost him games at times...just like tonight... Sitting behind the bench tonight, his son Wilkins from Huntingdon suggested he put back in #30 to guard Jada, assist coach agreed and Wilkins shot it down. The little #2 was doing a decent job but fouled out. Last time #30 matched up with Jada, she barely had a foul called the whole game. She's the best defensive player on that team imo. If Wilkins doesn't want to play her, she shouldn't be a starter. Good ole boy system going on or he really couldn't see how it worked last game?

The announcer said GC plays Loretto but did I see someone else say Summertown?

Cantrell had a great game because the refs took our post out of the game in the 1st qt. Those drives would have never happened if Ms Kee had been on the court. I hate refs, some teams they take care of and we ain't one of them!

Respectfully disagree with that.  Kee is a great player but she can't guard every person on the floor.  Cantrell is good at making last second looks in the drive too. So if Kee would've picked her up, she would've gotten the ball to someone else last second. And from what I've seen their post #14 rarely leaves from under the goal or shoots from outside so she would've been there.  No secret that I'm not the biggest fan of wilkins either.  Just calling it how I see it.

Tonight showed what separates GC and Westview from the other teams in the area.  They both have a second option that can go for 20-25 and win a game.  Huntingdon just couldn’t beat the top 2.  Still a very good team and a lot to be proud of.

Agreed. Cantrell did the job! And huntingdon did a great job defending hart and holding her back.

“They limited her to 19 points total”…she is only averaging 16 ppg this season. The main thing was limiting the kick outs and the aggressive physical play. Westview has to limit their turnovers as well. They will come back strong

Hart only had 18 ppg in the season but scored 24 this game. My point being that players to that caliber turn it up even more in the post season, especially in such a close game. If she hadn't have been limited as well as she was, that 19 could have very well been closer to 30...would've made a huge difference.

Of course they will come back strong. No one expects less of such a great team.

What a great game to watch and a fun atmosphere. I almost didn't go but am so glad I did. I thought GC exposed some weaknesses of west view.it will be interesting to See if others take the same game plan/approach. They fried to limit Jada's touches and force other's to handle the ball which led to a lot of turnovers that Jada usually hides because she is so good they usually don't have to handle it except in very small spurts. in the half court it appeared that they weren't helping off the 2 best shouters and eliminating a lot of Jada's opportunities to drive and kick out. I would be curious to see final stats because live it seemed like OC won the rebounding and turnover battles as well. Wilkins always has a good-game plan and they always Are scare because you know his teams will play hard and be extremely well prepared. I love watching his teams play. There's a reason he is considered one of the best. And wow!!! Micah hart was an animal last night. Last night, she was the best player in the gym and you could full she was determined to not let her team lose. Should be a fur region championship too. '

A coach told me that the only thing WV beat GC in was blocks and 3 pt %. But they didn't shoot as many 3s because like you said...Jada was limited on kicking it out.  There were points in the broadcast you could see Jada getting frustrated because she was covered up. I was also told they limited her to 19 points total, mostly in 2nd half. I was shocked hardly no fouls called on her and the GC player guarding her. (#30 i think majority of game.) They were really tangled up and playing tough! I'm not familiar with all the teams in the region but I hope to see these two teams battle it out again.

  11. I was able to watch online. Huntingdon was more scrappy than usual with the pushing or were the refs making bad calls? People look tiny on NFHS.  I think that helped GC alot. I will say that I think everyone on GC did their part.  Idk all their names but #30, #1 and the other girl with braids had the best defense on the team imo. Good team win for you guys.

  12. How long ago was that though?  Totally different situation. To say she was snubbed  would mean you are thinking she was a better choice than the three chosen. I don't think that's it here in 2023.  Just not enough spots and the overall stats per person and team were higher for these other girls. Hart has another shot at it next year without Jada in the picture.

I am definitely ready to see how it all plays out in the glass house this year. Good luck to all!

  13. I don't really think anyone was snubbed. Jada Harrison by far is #1 choice for this award hands down. When you look at Beaty with 15 D1 offers and her consistency with the same AAU team, York and Beaty also had a better performance in the glass house last year. I'm not as familiar with Newman, but looking at stats, hers were higher too. Unfortunately there just aren't enough spots for everyone to become a finalist.

Pressing with 20 point lead is ok in first half but I’ve seen teams pressing with 20 point lead in 4th quarter which I don’t

Do you think the backups need to just not do what the starters do when they play?? You think they should should not be aggressive at all?? Pretty obvious you got a problem with GC and that is fine. Things never go exactly perfect in any program. I will tell you this. No matter how much and how tough situations got when mine was playing I taught her to be mentally tough and never talked bad about the coach. We never had discussions blaming coaches for anything. When we had bad days it was never someone else’s fault that is for sure.

Agree with the statement about pressing vs 1st and 4th qtr. Big difference. And like letsgobrandon said, just a personal opinion and play style/sportsmanship choice. Just because someone offers up constructive criticism of a team or instance, doesn't mean they have "something against" anyone. No need to feel so defensive when we are all just stating opinions. I love to see JV be aggressive but at the same time, utilize that 20+ lead to work on other things. You can still be aggressive without pressing. I'm sure they play plenty of JV games where they can focus on that.

She's a very good player and I think she scored at least half of the 33 for GC when they played WV. I think Wilkins does a good job of getting the girls in when he needs too...my personal opinion. Typically, it seems that GC and WV play about 7 to 8 on a regular basis but I believe that's kind of the norm and not the exception (like SS). SS can go 5 in, 5 out and not miss a beat. GC & WV aren't built that way. If WV hadn't lost the big girl and the Simpson kid, they'd be a solid 9 deep this year. My disapproval is that I don't like pressing when you got a 20 point lead, but that goes back to style play and sportsmanship (to me, but I'm old school).

Definitely agree about pressing when such a big lead!

  16. Milan, union city, henry co, greenfield? Not beating any of those teams by 30? Definitely not jealous of GC. Esp after all ive heard. I've had two family members on that team. I've also had friends or family on trenton, humboldt, dyer Co, westview and union city.  I follow west tn closely due to that and because I'm an assistant coach (aau) and always looking for untapped talent. Everyone just calls it as we see it and obviously some can't take the conversation.  It's all good man. I wish GC the best of luck. Hopefully won't be a repeat of the last couple years and lose the first game at state when faced with some tough competition.  WV in my opinion will take the gold ball again but it would be nice to see some other teams from the west do more this year
