No but it takes 65 teenagers a while to figure out how they are going to get to the practice field. Some carpool, some wait for a parent to show up and take them, and some walk. I will say this part again, see if you can follow. The track guys were training (track practice) trying to qualify for the state championship track meet. That qualifying meet was on Sat. That only leaves two spring football practices for them to participate. TSSAA has a three day acclimation period that require kids to be in shorts and helmets only. So, there was no point to have the track guys practice for two days in shorts while the other 65 kids have been at it for 2 weeks in pads. I hope that makes sense.
In other words: They weren't waiting on the track guys to finish track practice and then make them start football practice. Once the non state qualifiers finished track there were only 2 practices left. So, the start time had nothing to do with track guys.
Only 3 important football players were at the track meet Saturday? Kelly, Hundley, and Williams. We are in trouble if 3 guys make or break this team.

The football field is not at the high school. Normally they practice at the high school on the practice field. But the track is being renovated so they can't use the practice field. They held spring practice at the game field off campus. The 4:50 start time is designed to give the players time to figure out how to get themselves to the game field, which is 2 mi. from campus. They had the kids carpool. Too cheap to pay a bus driver.
It takes nearly two hours to travel 2 miles? I think the giving kids at track time to get to practice is a little more logical then that

Allrighty then,
Well, that's hard to do because so many guys (about 20) didn't do spring because of track. Qualifying for state track meet was last Sat. That would have left only 2 practices for the track guys to join in and there's a 3 day acclimation period. So we were missing alot of offensive and defensive guys that we are counting on. We only had 4 of our skill guys that will end up starting. 1rb, and 2 receivers and a corner. So, there really wasn't much they could do that would resemble what we will see this fall. But I will tell you what I saw.
The team went through their entire pregame routine just like they will on a Friday night. Then went into their position group drills. Then they put a defense out there and ran plays at it with no O lineman, basically 7 on 11 if you count the guy on a knee snapping the ball to qb. I thought the qbs made some really nice throws, not all of the throws were good, but when it was thrown to Heyward or Rogers or Ferrera it looked good. So, I guess what appeared to be bad passes or jump balls had much to do with who the receiver was. Then, they scrimmaged a little bit, but like YB said before, it was very vanilla, basic veer option stuff. So, in my opinion it is far too early to judge how this team will fare this season based on a glorified practice with most all our skill guys not out there.
I will just say there is a long way to go with this team. As usual, the biggest issue is O line. That group will have to come a long way between now and Aug. to be competitive with the better teams on our schedule. Skill wise this team is absolutely loaded. But we all know that doesn't translate to wins if you can't block people. Considering we had about 20 that didn't participate at all because track I thought it was a good night. It was good to see everybody out at the Ship to support these guys. Again, what we see in August will look entirely different than what we saw last night. This team will go as far as the OL can carry them, and that group has a long long long way to go.
Perhaps BoysfromSI can give us his take on the showcase. SI?
What was the point in the late practice start time if it wasn’t to get the track kids able to attend practice?

The Clinton dragons got the best of Josh Jones and his 1000 kids on roster? Trouble in paradise or too early to predict?

Anderson County Mavericks 2022

Powell vs AC has been phenomenal games. To clarify the enrollment, AC is the largest 4a school. Only 11 less kids than Clinton, and 194 less than CC. Rumors were flying about moving from 6 to 4 or 5 classes but I think that was clarified at the last TSSAA meeting about 2 weeks ago to not be true. I’d say as long as both football programs are still rolling, the Powell vs AC game will be one of the games to circle for years to come.
