The week of fall break DB football did not practice mon-thurs. They did practice that Friday evening and again sat morning. Throughout the season practice mon-wed then walk through thurs morning off that evening then game day Friday. Film Sunday I hesitate to say optional but most not present.

Please reference the 6a teams still in playoffs along with the 2 4a teams on their schedule,, I think you will find not the same commitment.

DB players are not as recruitable as players from Knox area due to the fact they

    - lose substantial weight and strength during season

    - lose desire to continue to play due to poor leadership

    - lose period

    - start with lesser skill set

Everyone should want to play in that magnificent stadium with that outstanding band. Absolutely best in the area. Good players gravitate to the better programs.. reference GV, Eliz, Alcoa, Maryville, Bearden.. check rosters with kids outside the zone.

DB will remain mediocre as long as staff, approach, and mindset remain mediocre. Kids are the ones that suffer the most from Christian's  pathetic performance as a coach, leader, mentor, motivator, and representative of Dobyns Bennett. He is an insult to what DB stands for.. time for change.

You sound very disgruntled. Should change the name of this thread to "The State of Dobyns Bennett Football" with all the recent posts by angry DB fans and haters LOL.

  2. The state of Tri-cities 5a/6a football is in the same state it has always been. Other than the 4a programs, no one has EVER won a state championship in the modern era. If you exclude a couple of the Sullivan South teams in the mid to late 2000’s, no one has even sniffed a state championship, and I believe they may have been 4a at that time. One of those years, a bad DB team smoked a semi finals Sullivan South team in the regular season. Bottom line, the “big schools” in the tri-cites have never had the talent on the field to consistently compete at a state championship level.

  3. First off, I love this platform and the purpose it serves. There are a lot of really good posts on here, with some very insightful thoughts. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions and voice those opinions. BUT, I highly doubt that most of the posters on here would even know where to begin coaching 14-18 year-old kids. No offence to anyone. So, before we all start calling for a change because a good man isn't winning any games, check yourself. WR specifically- they aren't very good. Not because their coaching is horrendous, but because most of the teams they have played this year have better players. And again, I'm not bashing anyone or their right to get on here and post their opinion. I love reading CoachT.

Crockett wins this game, and it's not even close. I'm not saying it's a blowout but the pioneers won't have a problem with the Vikings. Overall I think Crockett is just better, and they will be way more physical than the boys from Bristol. Plus, I think Hayden does a good job with his program (excluding some occasional tantrums he throws). I have a lot of respect and sympathy for what Tennessee High has endured in the last year. I believe they will bounce back with some of the young talent they have. But this season, they are still rebuilding and will struggle to win games. Crockett by 2-3 scores.

If you put a little Texas Pete on crow, it's not too bad. TN High must be putting it together. Could be a long season for Crockett.

  5. This game will say a lot about how much Elizabethton has progressed since game 1. The Cyclones have obviously done a great job over the last few years of building a PROGRAM. I still think they meet the high standard in their preparation, scheme, effort, etc..., they are just down in talent (compared to previous years) this year. AC wins this one by 21. AC by 7 the second go-around.

I suspect it would be difficult to remain stoic on the sidelines during a bad penalty call.    Only guy I can remember seeing who acted that way all the time was Quarles @ Maryville.....

Sure, I certainly understand sticking up for your team, but sometimes he seems a little overkill with his reactions. Of course, that's easy for me to say sitting on my couch. If i had as much invested as him, I may react the same way. Either way, pretty good coach.

Also, where is the Boone/Morristown West thread? That's going to be the game of the night in Region 1.
