Just wondering for those young and old, a perspective on when we started seeing players transfer so much, if they really do, if it always has been happening, and just an overall look back at it all. Thanks.
Was hoping to have a poll on this, but the options would have been:
- Since Social Media became a thing 10-15 years ago
- Always has been prevalent, we just know about it more now thanks to Social Media
- It's really not that prevalent
- Started more recently with NIL in College Recruiting

Upon doing research, Maryville v. Alcoa (Battle of Pistol Creek) seems to be people's "go-to" rivalry in the state of Tennessee. Both schools have remained extremely competitive and haven't been killed by suburban growth to their district to the point the school districts themselves have built new schools that would take away from their current programs. Time changes everything, but this one seems timeless, even though in Knox alone Bearden\West or Bearden\Farragut seems fun.
On another note, understand the history of BoPC dates almost 100 contests now, that's great, but from my understanding, it also seems like a race separated the rivalry quite a bit too. Any history about the school separation would be appreciated too, like I said...today's news reporters have to keep it PC and just talk about stats, I can tell there is a lot more to the story with this rivalry of passionate fans, players, coaching staffs, and their respective communities.
Appreciate it.

Keep it this simple, dating back to 2000, so almost 25 seasons, if you had to pick a clear-cut Top 3 Public School Programs, and Top 3 Private School Programs, who would they be? Based off some research, here's what I came up with.
Top 3 Public:
Maryville
Oakland
Alcoa
Top 3 Private:
Brentwood Academy
Montgomery Bell Academy
Memphis University School

First and foremost, not promoting this league or that's why I'm here.
Seems like a terrible idea for HS sports, shouldn't effect Tennessee...unless some head to ATL.

When did Oakland and Murfreesboro (The 6th largest city in TN) become "a Large Rural town"?
I feel like the rich will get richer but feel like you need to brush up on your geography and what is classified as Rural around here.
Have visited Maryville, Alcoa, and majority of Knoxville...amazing places, very rural feel. Apologies.

So curious of people's thoughts (as looking at the "Bearden Goliath" discussion), the Memphis NIL deals with a little research, and overall stipulations of players transferring to other places over the summer.
I ask you this, a popular conversation in other states too. Do you think that the Transfer Porter\NIL is going to not essentially ruin, but make the rich, richer, stronger teams even better in metropolitan areas in Tennessee? I would think this would hurt some of the "large rural towns" such as Oakland but what do I know, as some of the suburban schools have a much easier outlet to find players.
Thoughts?

Maryville at Alcoa.
I looked at your Twitter. You have 7 followers and 4 look like cam girl bots.
I’m a massive bot, meet me at Cookout this evening for burgers and shakes on me.
No, so actually got hired about two weeks ago and had to start a new account but it’s cool. I’ll be annoying y’all all summer, if you want to participate in discussion, great, if not? Meet me at Two Doors Down in Maryville for a cold one.

Hello! Not a bot or spam situation, getting a project going finding the best places to catch games in Tennessee with the small schools.
Reasons why, traditions, food, pictures, can be today or in the past, any details would be great, thanks. -OA

Maryville\Alcoa, Still Biggest Rivalry in Tennessee?
in Class 5A & Class 6A
Posted
Been busy, love relooking at this topic.
I'm still looking for the history, even if it exists, of possible bad blood between the two, more than winning. There is a documentary about The Battle of Pistol Creek but even with over a dozen streaming services, it still does not work on any of them...it looks really well put together too.
Having a good friend from the area, he seemed to discuss that Alcoa was much more blue collar, whereas Maryville was much more white-collar, or bosses of blue-collar people in Alcoa. I also know that both Alcoa and Maryville have experienced quite the growth with new neighborhoods and new money. Just seeing if there is more to it for my own personal work. If anyone could elaborate on it, would be great, it's very possible it's just a friendly rivalry, making bigger deal out of nothing. Thanks!
