  1. Owlpride has been on the smear Monroe campaign all along. I for one am SICK to death of it. You mean to tell me that you are stupid enough to think all kids that go to high school and play football automatically have to grades to go to a div 1 school?? You are such an idiot OWLPRIDE. Are you stupid enough to believe that as successful as Monroe has been that all his haters would have busted him GOD knows they want to?? The STADIUM is named after him at CLEVELAND. YOU obviously have a personal problem with him. First you were saying he couldn't coach...couldn't call plays...now you are accusing him of illegal activities. I personally would like you to SHUT UP. Many great players became great men that played for Coach Monroe. Doug Green being one of many. The Cobb Twins are now teachers and coaches..Mike Jenne is a successful lawyer..the Calfees are sucessful doctors and businessmen. I have a degree in business mangement. You need to SHUT up and change your screen name. Did you want Coach Monroe to throw all those kids under the bus in the Ridgeland incident??? No he wasn't at RIDGELAND he was at the Farragut Bearden game scouting. He is close to his players and to this day past players go by and see him. Not every kid has the best opportunties in life. Coach tries to help those players as well. Go ask his players. He doesn't care if you are black, white, green or pink rich or poor or who your Daddy is.. if you are the best player at that position you will play. He cares about you as a person. I KNOW I PLAYED FOR HIM. He is a great coach a good person. If you don't stop getting on here and slamming him I am going to call up eveyone that I know that played for him and get them on here. Meet me in person and talk this crap. I would love to!

Let me tell you something LovesHS, I don't give two hoots about Cleveland,Tn! My school, my alma mater is Ooltewah High!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be @ Ooltewah High School watching the Owls long after Bennie Monroe and you are gone. Let me get this straight, you think it's ok to belittle a 17 year old qb but the coach is off limits? That's kind of sick. I'm not the only one that was disgusted with the way the Ridgeland incident was handled. Back off!

  2. What? Proof...give me proof. SO let me get this straight, when someone is hired as the head football coach,THEY(headcoach) automatically becomes the "GODFATHER",he controls the grades, the halls, the community, all the staff and administrators......always a secret conspricey.Come on pride..you know some players don't THINK past high school and they take certian courses just to get by a semester.,.then when its time to play college ball, they don't care or are so far behind, its pointless. And how do you know all this? And the ridgeland situation?..what about it? NOBODY from ooltewah hit anybody or broke any law, don't rehash this again, please. So no-one can go outside the school grounds and do anything, because when your in highschool remember the highschool OWNS YOU,right? I don't care what any SRO has to say about incident, unless HE WAS THERE at ridgeland..and he wasn't.,.and it isn't any of his business what they(school) does anyway...the sro has one job take care of what happens on school grounds that involve him, thats it.The sro is not an administrator. Yeah,I saw how many kids where on the team...SO WHAT? every year is different, what's your point? AGAIN,I suggest this either give some legitimate proof..not rumor, not hear-say,proof.Nobody can,so..I'll ask again,WHAT ABOUT OOLTEWAH FOOTBALL next year(players, coaches, college prospects, other than smith),any new comers? rising stars..etc......

I hear Delaney,Putnam, and Reed are being recruited fairly hard. I'm hearing Bruell and Paty to the o-line with an outside shot of Jacques also moving to o-line but he will likely remain at TE. I'm hearing a couple of linemen may return but can you count on them? I'm hearing we may run some version of the veer to take advantage of our qbs running skills. Good nucleus returning on defense...the key will be rebuilding the offensive line and finding some playmakers on offense. I think you'll see Brady to Jacquez a lot and the tb will be Eric ?. There doesn't appear to be a lot of depth.

  3. REALLY? I keep hearing about ALL THIS STUFF,but nobody seems to give any proof.......show me and everybody on here, proof.....something anything.............................I'll wait...................................come on SERIOUSLY,SOMEBODY,ANYBODY print out, send out a website,a link to cleveland or bradley police records office, file, something.Get actual names, and people to come on here and tell me and anybody else all this unlawful, rule breaking stuff that went on at cleveland and supposedly at ooltewah NOW!!! I won't beleive it UNTIL,somebody gives me proof. I don't excactly love monroe, but,if this guy was this BAD and CROOKED and such a snake in the grass.,.WHY,would FOSTER n company hire him?WHY would hamilton county let him in the school system? NOW,show me proof and I'll will shut-up and stop defending him and ooltewah, but until then, lay off him and every other coach, until there's proof.

Come on Void...you know better. How is it Monroe's star players like Donte Hickey and Tony Styles were always elgible at Cleveland but could not get into UT? This was during an era when it was much easier than it is now to get into school.

Look at how the Ridgeland situation was handled last season. I suggest you talk to former SRO Easley about how Monroe handled that situation. I'm sure he will be happy to fill you in. Did you see how much smaller the game program was this year?

  4. bbz.

It DID happen. Talk to the people in the office at Ooltewah and they will tell you that it happened. I know this thread is to talk about Owl football, but this happened and should be discussed. And IMO, you are wrong about this. If you want to talk to me about this, come see me at a basketball game. I'm not hard at all to find. I'll start wearing my hat I wore during football season to basketball games (just don't try to talk to me during the game, I'm usually busy)

These coaches would be better served by recruiting the gym classes and halls of Ooltewah High School. If this indeed happened then Central has every right to be upset. When I was in school the roles were reversed because several kids zoned for Ooltewah attended Central. Nobody wanted to attend the so called "hick" school. So, from that standpoint, it's kind of funny.

More on point, I think this shows a skewed since of importance placed on high school athletics. Once you graduate from high school, NOBODY CARES! Rather, once your elgibility ends, NOBODY CARES! I think high school athletics is great as long as it is put in its proper perspective. I have been outspoken in the past about coaches not caring about character and if this is true than in my opinion it is par for the course.

My fear is that my school and my alma mater's reputation is going to be tarnished. Cleveland High was a football factory composed of characters of ill repute....Donte Hickey,Tony Stiles, Parks boys, on and on....

  5. I said I was finished with this topic but you guys and your name calling along with the classy posting skills drew me back in. 1st off let me break it down so EVERYONE can understand. I NEVER said Hunter was off limits to Ooltewah! As long as they are talking to Ooltewah zoned students there is NO problem. I know, just like you, it is a split zoned school. The problem is that Ooltewah is not allowed to contact athletes or students not zoned for their school to invite them to workouts and such, when this happens they are in violation of TSSAA rules. Second if 8th graders that are not zoned for your school are participating in workouts then it is in direct violation of TSSAA rules also. Even if a student plans on trying to get a hardship, athletics is NEVER supposed to be one, those are not granted until May or June so the student is considered a Central student until the time it is approved. Now students zoned for the Owls are allowed to workout and can be contacted, as I said earlier no problems there. Finally bipbopzot, as Iwill refer to you by your correct screen name and not resort to the namecalling, I NEVER said that all of the Pounders problems were caused by Ooltewah or however it was worded by you. Have their been players go to other schools that could have helped, yes. Also has Ooltewah benefited from some Central zoned players, yes. I wold correct you that Central football was playing pretty welly in the early 200s and gave Maryville a run for their money in 03. They also Hung 50 something on the Owls as Michael Davenport scored 5 TDs I believe. So to say they have been horrible for 30 something years is a bit of a stretch even for you. On to the Owls future, Coach Gatewood turned that program at Ooltewah into a winner bottomline. Monroe has done nothing more than maintain what Coach Gatewood built. He will be missed whether you believe it or not and I believe he will pull some athletes away from the Owls. Good luck next year and goodnight to all!!

I do not disagree with anything in this post. Monroe inherited a program like Fulmer did when he replaced Majors. There were a lot of old timers against his hiring because of the reputation of Cleveland and the win at all costs attitude. He lost alot of supporters in '07 after the Ridgeland fiasco. Monroe will be at Ooltewah one more year then he will support Coach Green to become the head coach.

  6. Gatewood is getting a supplement, he was only a volunteer the first year he returned from Velocity. They are already intervueing people for Coach Gatewoods position. Henderson's spot will not be hard to fill either - PE teaching spots will attract lots of attention from football coaches. The interesting thing will be if any of the volunteer coaches follow Gatewood to EHHS. Couch helped him before Benny was at Ooltewah and before he was the Head Coach at David Brainerd. Davis was the Defensive Coord. at Ooltewah when Gatewood was the head coach, neither of them have any ties to Coach Monroe other than the past couple of years.

Coach Davis was the HEAD COACH at Ooltewah in the late 70's and 80's. I believe Coach Henderson will be sorely missed as he made the kids accountable and he could relate to them as he is only 25 or so himself. I will be surprised if Coach Couch returns as he and Gatewood have been close for a long time. If he returns, it might be to simply keep people from having hard feelings.

This is going to be a difficult transition for Gatewood because the administration is going to try to keep the very athletes that Gatewood will need from transfering and if you people don't think this is going to hurt Ooltewah, think again. A lot of the kids that are there for the academics are sick of the crap they have to put up with. What is happening to Ooltewah is what happened to Central when Tyner more or less closed.

If Bennie Monroe remains, which I don't expect after next season, I look for his Ooltewah teams to be very similar in numbers(very small) to his Cleveland teams. I also expect Ooltewah to be a squad of mainly minorities.....not there is anything wrong with that but certainly not represenative of the community. I think the East Brainerd school will be more or less a community school.

I also fully expect Coach Green to become the head coach when Monroe retires. If Foster wants to stem the tide of good kids and athletes leaving, than he needs to take a stand and when these kids get thrown in jail they need to be kicked off the team. It's embarassing to the community when these issues are overlooked and tolerated. If the community is embarrassed and NOT being represented, the funding and support will cease and follow the folks to East Brainerd.

  7. The Free Press says it will be made official Friday. How will this new school affect Ooltewah and specifically football? Will current Ooltewah students be allowed to continue their education there or will they enforce strict zoning due to the concern over some schools being overcrowded and some underused.

This was not a well kept secret. Ooltewah is also losing Coach Henderson who is the d-line and strength and conditioning coach. He is an up and comer and truly one of the good guys on the current staff. He doesn't care if you're the fourth team wr or Jacquez Smith, if you get out of line, he will bust your ---. He is one of the few that is a REAL mentor. He will be missed as much if not more than Gatewood.

The casual observer does not understand the impact this is going to have on the Owls future. Ooltewah is not growing like it was two or three years ago as the economy has taken its toll. In the short run, Ooltewah fortues will slip. I expect the majority of the rising sophomore class to enroll @ East Hamilton if they are in that zone. I don't expect many rising juniors to transfer, but Ooltewah only had 14 or 15 sophomores on the roster this past season.

Ooltewah will likely have the smallest roster it has had in recent memory. Rumors abound that Monroe is going to retire after next season. The Ooltewah administration is trying to be proactive and trying to encourage their current athletes to stay at Ooltewah, but it may be a little too late. Is it any wonder why the jv team only had one game this season? Did Gatewood know he was going this past summer? Keep in mind, he is the one that coached the jv squad the last few years.

I look for East Hamilton to become a AAAA power in short order and Ooltewah to become an also ran in the immediate future. A 70 year old coach is not what you need to build your program....especially a guy that is reknowned for having very few players on his roster to begin with. Congrats to East Hamilton....

  8. We had a great year, all things considered (until the owls decided to screw-up in every way possible last night).DEFENSE was all heart last night, played very well considering they were on the feild all night!!! NO-TACKLING on special teams killed us last night and NO-OFFENSE was the back breaker. Overall, what does everyone think? and what about next year? How does everyone think we will do? OWL SENIORS WERE SOME OF THE BEST LEADERS ON AND OFF THE FEILD,I've ever seen.Great kids, great parents for the most part.THANK-YOU ALL!!

Ooltewah is going to have to find some playmakers next season. It is shocking they made it as far as they did by running one running back 80% of the time. Eric Green should have been lined up in the slot some and he should have gotten more opportunities this season. I think he will be a capable replacement for Polk.

Hopefully, we will be able to help Brady more next season by having receivers on the field that can catch and actually move the chains. I think our coaching staff was so enamored with the speed from the wr's they oftentimes forgot that you have to catch the ball.

The biggest problem will be replacing the offensive line. I look for Jacquez Smith and perhaps #33 to move to the offensive line and they will make darn good linemen. I also expect Ted Gatewood to be named head coach at East Hamilton which means he will likely take a couple of coaches with him....Couch and Henderson. If this occurs, I look for the majority of Ooltewah's freshmen team from this season to show up and play for the Hurricanes next year.

It's way too early to start thinking about next season .

As far as this season is concerned, I believe last night showed that Ooltewah played in a weak region and it also showed that Oakland plays in the toughest region in the state. The two teams we lost against were from middle Tennessee. That ought to tell you something.

I also noticed that Oakland dressed about 90 players. Murfreesboro doesn't have all the tiny private schools, therefore, they have better depth on their football roster. They could have played us ten times and they would have beaten us nine.

I'm not trying to hurt anybodies feelings but it's the truth. They kicked our butts.....

  9. This is the first game this season, that I would have to flip a coin on. I figured Bearden would go 9-2 and finish second in the region, in July. I knew how well Devrin Young would be, and would be the main offensive weapon.

Soddy Daisy does scare me. Our defense will have to dominate. Coach Taylor needs to get Devrin invovled with the passing game (not just screens or in the flats). Tanner Fine was injured last night, I hope he is able to play. But, Peyton Landers and Drew Williams can fill his FB spot fine. It is on defense where we need him, BAD.

Here is my prediction. If Ryan Potter plays well, Bearden wins. If Potter gets rattled, throws mutiple interceptions, Bearden Loses.

I think and hope Bearden wins because payback is going to be ____when Bearden rolls into the Owls nest.

  10. Whatever. That is far from immature and classless. I'm not sure how you could think that unless you're 70ish and one of the pro-no celebrations in the NFL. Kid was just excited. He didn't taunt anybody. He wasn't even facing anybody. Its not different than throwing up your arms in celebration after making a good play.

And I wouldn't called it concerned. I asked myself 'what just happened'? But if you were sitting around me then you'd know I wasn't worried about the second half. Sawdy was full of big plays from ST and busted coverages so I knew it wasn't going to continue. It was only a matter of time.

I agree with 2Seam, we would have thought the same thing had one of their players gotten up and beaten his chest after a play. I prefer to see players act like they've been there before and I'm sure our coaches do as well.

  11. I wonder why this team never gets any respect in the PRESS. Matthew Polk may even have better stats than Bryan Marshall did his Sr year at Ooltewah. Against Oak Ridge and Soddy he had over or close to 500 yards rushing. The defensive stats are just freaky. Interceptions-passes broken up- rushing yards allowed- sacks-QB hurries. I would like someone( Thorough or Imaowl) post some end of the year stats on here. Owls focus and Don't let up in the playoffs! Congratulations to Coach Monroe, Coach Green, Coach Gatewood and the rest!

It's always been that way with the Chattanooga media who has a love affair with Boyd-Buc (who play kids that couldn't cut it at Ooltewah....nothing wrong with that), and McCallie and Baylor. We have always been treated like we don't exist. I'll have to hand it to Stump Martin who is always promoting Ooltewah athletics.

  12. hmm Cougars and the Owls are both a good at the run but lacking at the pass

Ooltewah is on a different level than Campbell County. Do you realize how many points the Owls have scored the last three weeks against Farragut,Oak Ridge and Soddy Daisy? Here's a hint....Ooltewah will hang 50+ on Campbell County

and I promise Campbell County will doing nothing against the Owl defense.

  13. SOddy had -2 yards offense 2nd half... Ooltewah was just too strong for Soddy. Upfront Ooltewah pushed Soddy around 3/4 of the game. Polk had an awesome game. 39 carries for 295 yards. Ooltewah's defense had 4 int's but gave up 3 td's 1st half. Hats off to Soddy. I knew they wouldn't come in here flat. Soddy was the best "passing" offense Ooltewah has faced all year. Good luck next week and hopefully we'll play back at the nest 2 weeks from now.

If Soddy protects their qb they may upset Bearden. They have a well conceived offense but they got out athleted against Ooltewah. Again, their qb is the best we have seen.

  14. I dont know who likes him or who doesnt but BIG ATTITUDES dont go well in high school...HOW in the world can he keep swapping schools and NOT MOVE, and for him be get any playing time as a soph. @ Ooltewah he should consider himself lucky so why would he leave??

There were actually several sophomores that played last season. There aren't many that play this season except #5 who plays mainly on special teams and is the backup quarterback. If you don't have to play sophomores...you don't and Ooltewah doesn't have to. There is good talent in the sophomore class including #5 who is already a very good quarterback.

  15. I heard that PJ's dad is already negotiating with Bill Price at Signal Mountain for PJ

to be the star. He wants atleast 20 carries a game and his name mentioned in every Signal Mountain

news article. He also wants to break the TSSAA record for 6 schools in 6 years.

    Baylor, Hunter, Ooltewah,Tyner,Soddy, Signal Mtn.

All while living at the same address!

I know you're probably kidding, but you might be telling the truth. I heard that his dad made a highlight tape of PJ when he was in middle school and took it to the Ooltewah coaches so they could see how great he was. When he was a freshman, his dad was at every practice and would approach the coaches after every practice. To appease him, the Owl coaches would let him drop back for punts as a second safety but I never saw the kid field a single punt. He actually played in the first two games last season before transfering to Tyner. His dad felt he was not being used properly at Ooltewah. He did not fit in at Tyner where I understand his dad would show up for all the strength and conditioning sessions. He has found a home at Soddy and I hope for the sake of the kid, his daddy doesn't uproot him again. PJ is a good, solid back that lacks great breakaway speed and thus isn't the back his dad thinks he is. His dad is a nice guy but it's all about PJ and PJ getting enough touches. I promise you it's not about team with Mr Hubbard who is the typical stage dad. They live in the same house in Harrison where they've always lived. It would not surprise me if they transfer to Signal Mtn where he can put up big number against smaller schools. I bet his dad is also telling Soddy people what a great shortstiop he is even though he has not played baseball in two years. Poor PJ....

  16. This game will be a more heated atmosphere than farragut was. Soddy has done well this year, but they are about to run into a Big,Red-BUZZSAW!!! Whadda ya'll think? Blowout or nail biter?

This is going to be a blow out. The Owls will be extra motivated to see former team mate PJ Hubbard lined up for the big blue. Ooltewah's defensive front will take over this football game early as the Owl corners lockdown the Soddy receivers.

The Owls could cruise to the semis. It will get a little dicey when we play another strong defensive team like Maplewood, but for now, let's enjoy the ride. Owls 51 Soddy 14

  17. If he was nt dissing Monroe then who was he dissing? Ask Gatewood what the coach did cause he told Monroe cause Monroe was nt looking!!!!!! You didnt see it thats fine but dont tell me what i did see isnt true.

Whatever the case, the coach came to the Owl locker room and apologized to the entire team. That took a big man to do that....classy move.

  18. I am looking forward to the Soddy game. However, lets keep it to the OR game first, even if we have to talk amongst ourselves on that thread. Jumping ahead to Soddy makes us look arrogant.

    [/quote

It doesn't seem Oak Ridge is interested in talking about the game. I'm bored with their infighing...

  19. The Oak Ridge program appears to be in shambles as nobody is excited about talking about this week's game. I think Soddy is going to shock the state this Friday by beating Farragut. This will set up one of the biggest season ending games in Hamilton County football history when Soddy visits Ooltewah.

Soddy has one of the top marching bands in the state( Imagine that!). I've always enjoyed how they enter their stadium before a football game....top notch.

  21. Ok, I'll bite. We will not be prepared mentally or physically for this game. The freshman and sophomore Owls will play the whole second half, giving the starters a well-deserved rest in anticipation of the best Ooltewah - Soddy Daisy game this decade. What is most disappointing to me is watching the opposing team throttle back in the 2nd quarter because they know they can and we can do nothing to stop it. Right now, the only good part of our game is special teams. Again, Oak Ridge fans are furious, not because of the losses, but how we are losing.

We have to [cough] win out. So, pretty much zero.

I don't know about all that, but this is shaping up to be a major beat down....even at Oak Ridge. The Owl defensive front maybe the best front four in the state. If there is one better, I would like to see it.

The key to the Owls offense is a healthy Gino Norwood and he got banged up last night and didn't play in the second half. You'll recall that Gino did not play against Maplewood and he was sorely missed.

Also, kudos to Brady Reed who has been often criticized in this forum.....some of it deserved although some of it has been way over the top. Brady does not have to be the second coming of Joe Montana for this team to win. I thought he threw the ball and managed the game very well. Hopefully, he builds on this.....

  22. Don't know much about Heritige, but I do think the owls take this one. What does anyone know about 'em? Big,fast...pass,run alot?

I don't believe Heritage has ever beaten the Owls since this region was created. Ooltewah will have far more athletes. It should not be a competitive match up. I'm not trying to be mean spirited, but this is the worst AAAAA team in east Tennessee.
