  1. The final 3 teams in class A are privates. One of the last 2 teams in AA is private.

    That's about usual...so no...the multiplier hasn't affected softball much.

The multiplier will never cure all the sports ills. And it cerainly wasnt developed to cure the softball problems of so many private schools winning titles over the years. Get real folks, the only purpose for the TSSAA to change anything is for football and basketball...the only sports that make a profit. The multiplier has helped those sports, so it has worked in my opinion.

for all those people supporting public schools that think privates should play only their own kinds of schools....the public administrators will never want that?...why?...because they know that privates generate revenue for them...go to a private vs a public school footbal game in the big cities....privates will bring a whole lot of fans to the games.

One other thing, for those publics think its wrong for privates because they recruit....publics recruit just as much...the power houses in football and basketball all encourage families to move into their zones to be a part of better sports traditions.

  2. Bleacher you really are a bum. Let me tell you that I know Clifford personally have seen him for many years out there coaching. He puts himself and his reputation on the line for those girls that he coaches. You can say what you will about that but I call that a COACH. How many state titles has your team won? Really. Clifford has how many now and how many runner-ups? I'm sorry but I have been watching softball for many years now and EVERY TEAM has some unruly fans. They are are not just Soddy fans that get kicked out of games, I see it happen every now and than with EVERY team. I really think that you are a sour grapes guy that your girl wanted to play for Soddy and didn't make the team. I mean really if you have nothing better to say than ALWAYS getting onto Clifford and the way he coaches than don't watch their games its that simple, I'm sorry but some Soddy fans are not rude and obnoxious like YOU are were like caged animals that when you poke to many times we have to fight back. And you just don't know when to stop and trufully i have much more respect for those on here that have opinions and keep them to theirselves than those like you which I have NO RESPECT for. Also how would you know if the hit was intentional or not? I mean are you really Clifford, or the pitcher who hit the girl? I guess that of course

Yea, I have seen his reputation that he puts out on the line...and the reputation is not very good. I have watched his teams for over 20 years. No, I wouldnt want my daughter playing for him, regardless of how many titles he has won...besides, I dont live in chattanooga..I live in middle tennessee and the team I root for has won a whole lot more titles than soddy has..Everyone at that tourney in 97 knew he intentially hit that girl..he was the only one that didnt think so....like others have said, and not just me....its funny how no one at the tourneys have any problems except for soddy.....if it smells like manure, it must be manure!

  3. Well said, but Soddy fans will never understand your point even though everybody else will. Soddy is a great team with good girls on it and goodness knows they have tons of talent, but you are right, their fans are just unbearable. Maybe now they won state this year they will calm down and learn to win and lose gracefully. By the way Soddy girls you did play great this year regardless of what happened in the stands, with the officials, and any other grownup associated with your team. All of the girls can be proud of what hard work has accomplished.

The girls of soddy are great girls. yes, their fans are unbearable, but they are just an extension of their coach. He deliberately tries to infuriate others that watch his teams play. Even go as far as having his pitcher intentionally hit an opposing pitcher batting to get her out of a game which I saw him do in the mid- 90's. No wonder noone in chattanooga has any respect for him

  4. http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_86528.asp

Article on Ooltewah/Soddy-Daisy. Guess he thought if it hasn't been called all year it shouldn't be now, and I didn't read about any illegal pitches thrown by Ooltewah.

Its the same thing that happened several years ago with a very good Eaast Ridge pitcher, that no body wanted to teach her the right fundamentals on pitching. She could of gone to any college she wanted, but had to stay in chattanoogs because she crow-hopped, and the chattanooga umpires were the only ones that wouldnt call it. They never would play in any summer tourneys outside of chatt...and when the national qualifier was played there, and some atlanta umps called the semi-final game, they took their balls and bats and quit during the middle of the game...

so all you chattanooga coaches give up your egos, and teach the girls right instead of doing everything u can just to win...hopefully that girl from soddy wont live off illegal pitches....if she is that good, she doesnt need to do it

  5. Does anyone know a player who went on to play in the SEC from West TN? What high school were they from?

There was a left handed pitcher back about 5-6 years ago from Germantown...not sure of her name...she went to Ole Miss. I would say the majority of players if they are good enough from west tennessee go to Ole miss or Miss state. the travel squads from those areas dont get the exposure to be seen by alot of the Sec schools

  6. Great job to all the Middle Tennessee teams in the state tourney tonight. From what I can tell from the posts, they were 8-0 in the opening round games, except for one loss by friendship to another middle tenn. team. keep up the good work. Hope to see you all in the finals.

  7. you will never get the parents to grow up as long as they are spending the equivalent of a college education to fund the summer teams and the travel and headacke that goes with this game and no matter what anyone says its not about the enjoyment of the game its about winning and if your in it for 2nd place you need to join the glee club.you are right about taken time away from the game and getting refreshed but i will never agree about the parents.that started from daughter coached softball teams that didnt have a reason for the parents as to why they played there daughter that was no good over the better players and the only excuse they had was tell the parents to stop talking and the game will better.

Catbiddle, and parents spend a fortune for education too, and they will never stop complaining about our school systems when kids like you write and spell as pitiful as you do on these threads..lol don't they teach proper english in ooltewah?, or do they just think if you can spell Ooltewah, you have learned enough..lol

  8. holly thomas is the best pitcher in the tournament.

Cat, you need to quit smoking whatever it is that you are smoking. Its making you hallucinate. No way thomas is the best pitcher. Next thing you will probably say is the Owls are gonna win the whole thing!

  9. Surely your not talking about the out in the open slaps on the back and joke telling before the games and all the :):) are you? You must be badly mistaken :thumb:

    [/quote

Are you sure that is slaps in the back, or money planted in pockets?.. :):)

  10. Sorry, I coudn't find a nickels' worth :thumb:

Secondly.......she finds it more difficult every day...... :)

ERA...good luck to Riverdale..I just hope the TSSAA sends in an impartial group of umpires for that game, otherwise your team is up a creek without a paddle. Cpt. Kirk owns the Chattanooga umpires, and they never try to hide the fact that they are partial toward his teams

  11. Congrats to the B'wood Lady Bruins for taking the Region 6-AAA title with a win over Centennial. The Bruins made no mistakes and took advantage of every opportunity they were given or created. Nice job and good luck Friday.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention an appropriate celebration at the appropriate time by the victors. Timing is everything and today's was superb.

Very seldom will I single out players, but Morgan Thomas has become one of my sports heroes (heroines?). Having covered professionally from pee-wee to the majors, her performance today was one of courage and heart and impressed me greatly. The sheer joy she has playing the game will be greatly missed with her graduation.

Finally, to those guessing...I know him and he knows me, but he is not me. If you don't understand, don't worry. The ones who should will.

    FRIDAY

    Wilson Central @ Brentwood

    CHS @ Mount Juliet

Good luck to the Cougars and Bruins. :thumb:

well said "idiot". thomas has been a very effective pitcher for 4 years. but dont leave out all the other seniors on that team that have started for 4 years. they have been great also. Does anyone know if Centennial will have a very good pitcher next year?...all I have ever seen is Thomas

  12. Interesting now that Riverdale lost to Siegal, the top 3 teams in Coach T's softball AAA poll (Riverdale, Soddy Daisy, and Brentwood) are all on the same side of the state tournament bracket.

Riverdale and Soddy cant be in the same bracket as Brentwood. One of those two teams wont even make it to the State...and who knows if Brentwood will make it

  13. With no dog in the hunt, I think about a year ago everyone was saying that it was between these two schools to win it all. But as I recall someone forgot to tell the rest of the schools. And lo and behold there came one that did not want to listen, or didn't care what others had to say. Beat both of you and won the state, I was suprised too. There are 7 other teams that might not be so quick to give up. Will there be another Red Bank this year? On the other side, that should be one great game to see.

well said my2cents. If Riverdale and soddy were all so almighty as they believe they are, then they wouldnt get beat like they did last year. Maybe they have the best players, but that doesnt necessarily mean they have the best team. you never know how anyone reacts when that collar gets a little bit tight.

  14. I just hope the better team comes out on top...i have an opinion on who i think that should be but i will not state that just so i dont start DRAMA...i feel that each team has good sportsmanship(i do think that the brentwood coach shouldn't do the cartwheels or whatever until like state because she even did it in regular season games)...but goodluck to everyone

some coaches smoke victory cigars, she just happens to do cartwheels...not to downgrade the opposing team...its just something she does for her girls. Expectations are high at b'wood, so I'm sure she does it to help relieve some of the pressure.

Both teams are pretty much equal, based on their records which I believe against each other is 4-4. Even though one team has to lose, at least they both have a great shot of advancing. they both have some of the best pitching in this area, which can carry a team a long way.

  15. OMG-and I call myself an "Idiot." You were doing very well right up until that last sentence. Another example of ten seconds of bad judgement (along with poor spelling and punctuation). But that's okay-I've had my ten seconds before and probably will again. I just try very hard not to do it publically.

P.S.--from the last sentence I'm going to guess either you haven't seen the CHS coach or else you are waaaay behind on that visit to the optometrist.

I think my spelling and punctuation is just fine....at least I know how to spell the coach's name right...and its not Jaime

  16. Not really. And it's not the team or parents, either. It's just that booty shakes and cartwheels should come AFTER a coach has rejoined the team, not in the middle of the post-game handshake line.

I haven't been around here long, but where I come from, that's not an accepted practice. Like bbl said earlier, "...that includes shaking hands when the game is over, win or lose." It doesn't include the aforementioned booty shakes and cartwheels and other antics.

I hate to see a good coach, a good team, and a great rivalry overshadowed by a few seconds of poor judgement, but right now, IMHO, it is. Maybe tomorrow will be the start of something more positive--you know it's gong to be a great game, no matter what.

I've seen these 2 teams play before, and they always shook hands after the game. Not one time have I ever seen the b'wood coach do her cartwheel until after the handshakes were done, and they were back near their dugout. Maybe some schools are just jealous cuz they dont have a young female coach that relates to the girls as their coach does, nor can they do a cartwheel.

  17. how have they done this year. what are strong and weak points.what teams have they beat other than the district. how does ooltewah stack up with them.

Cat, from what I have seen, these two teams seem to be very much alike. Strong pitching is their biggest strength. They may have a little bit more hitting than the OWLS, but the OWLS may be a little bit better defensively. they have played just about everyone they could. Have beaten a real good hendersonville team, and siegel, but have also lost to some good teams too, much like Ooltewah has. Since they will be the home team, I'd give them the slight advantage. It may come down to the last team at bat will win.

  18. I think you are right coachd. there were players not on this list, that deserve to be. I haven watched players that has out performed a few of the players on these list. I am not saying the girls on these list are not very good players :D I hope politics is not getting to this. because some of these girls need to be looked at by scouts also. I belive thats why they play travel ball so they can be seen reguadless. If i offend anyone, SORRY, just telling what i see and know. :D

coachrw, you cant put everyone on the list. It looks to be a pretty good list to me. and you have to remember, that if your coach is not a MTSCA member, those girls on his/her team will not be selected. Scouts do not look at high school statistics anyway. they have their own season to worry about. All they care about is how a girl does in travel ball. If she didnt make this all-star team, she needs to shine during the summer

  19. Possibly. I may be wrong but doesn't Riverdale have to beat Soddy to make it to the state and Centennial, if they get out of the district, will have to beat either Hville, Mt Juliet, Beech or Wilson Central. If so I'm not so sure Riverdale has the easiest path. As far as Centennial's scoring, they don't have a great hitting team by any stretch of the imagination, but keep in mind that their #4 and #5 hitters who are also their 2nd and 3rd basement haven't played the past few games, including the Riverdale game and the Overton game you mentioned. Take those 2 hitters out of any lineup and you'll struggle to score against decent pitchers. The only 3 teams they have had a hard time scoring on this season are Brentwood 1-0, Riverdale 2-1 and Robertstdale AL(#4 team in Alabama 6A) 1-0. Who does score against these teams? The only other team to hold them for under 3 runs is Columbia Aca who has a pretty good pitcher themselves.

and as far as those 3-4 teams you mentioned that Centennial had a hard time scorign against, those happen to be the only other difficult teams they have played....scoring 15 runs or more against hillwood and hillsboro doesnt achieve much

  20. Possibly. Thats just it..Centennial getting out of the district is alot tougher than riverdale getting out of their district, since they have won like 47 straight district games. and if Centennial gets to go to sectionals, those 4 teams you mentioned are all tough. No, Riverdale doesnt necessarily have to play Soddy to get to state. As long as they both win all the way thru, they wont play each other in sectionals

  21. I was just confused...I thought i knew what they were saying but I had never heard it put that way. To me that means that this would be your off season...but i agree keep it positive...by the way the mj vs wilson central game has been rescheduled for monday at 4...so that makes it another big week for 9AAA... Mj vs Wc on Monday,Beech vs. Hendersonville on Wed., MJ vs. Hedersonville on thursday

There isnt a lot of difference in any of those 4 teams. Beech and Wilson Central have proven themselves the last few years, and Hendersonville and Mount Juliet have been playing good ball this year. Whoever gets hot during that distict tourney will be the winner. Too close to call right now
