  1. I'll start with Coach Frye at Lebanon High School.  He's a young and up and coming coach.  It is time for him to spread his coaching knowledge to a team of his own.  He has followed the great Coach Gentry since he started and I think it is time to see this young man step up to the next level and lead a team.  He's done all he can and achieve as an assistant.  I love this young man and believe which ever school lands him will have a bright future.

Now share some of the many great other young assistants that have not yet led a team but should take the next step and lead.  Who you got???  Frye is my opinion and best I've seen in many years.  Can't believe he hasn't left out on his own yet!

  2. Why does FCS need a change? What have you got against McNeal? He is a good coach and a great mentor. He has made the baseball state tournament 9 out of the last 10 years, and been in the football state championship 2 out of the last 5 years. He tries to make his players better young men when they finish playing for him than when they started playing for them. All of his players know that they can go and talk to him about any problems they are having and he'll try his best to help them out. I'm not exactly sure why you think there needs to be a change. Coach Caven is also a good coach. He may well have a chance to be the coach when McNeal is done. I think he'd do great with the program, but he is also my uncle so I guess you could say I'm a little biased.

The Boyd game in the playoffs was a great game. We should have gotten beat, but a mistake was made and we got the W. No one is perfect and mistakes are going to be made at the high school level. I highly doubt Brennan is going to fret about coming up 4 inches short when he looks at his championship ring for the rest of his life.

I don't understand what your point is with the Church of Christ stuff your talking about. Yes friendship was once Church of Christ, but I'm thinking they may have switched to non-denominational before I was even born. I went through the Bible classes for 7 years and I can say with certainty that they don't teach a Church of Christ only philosophy. They teach a Christian philosophy and that's why it's called non-denominational.

No obviously it doesn't suit my wants that you're saying he needs to go to another school when nothing is wrong with him going to friendship. I think friendship is a good fit for him. What makes you think WCHS is a better fit? He hasn't attended a large public school before so what makes you think he needs to now? You act as if we took him away from Central when he was never interested to go there. Quit acting like we somehow knew he was coming to Tennessee and we called him to make sure he was coming to friendship. The fact is that he walked right through our front doors wanting to know about our school and our football program and then he saw the championship rings. He likes succeeding and I'm pretty sure WCHS isn't quite a "successful" program. A.J. did make his own decision on what school he was going to attend so let's not act like we filled his head full of lies.

I'm interested to know who this o line player from WCHS was. Our entire o line had been at friendship for at least two years and probably more but I don't feel like thinking that far back. The only person who was from a different school the year before that played o line some was Kyle Woods little brother and he was our back-up TE. Kyle was a senior so I don't think it's logical to say we recruited his little brother from MJ when I'm sure his parents wanted him to play with his brother once they were in high school.

I just think you don't want to see Friendship succeed and that's why you don't want A.J. at Friendship.

Where did I ever say anything was wrong with CHurch of Christ???? I never did say that. Can you guys read and interpret what you read??? I stated that FCS was Church of Christ someone said it wasn't. Where do you get I said it was BAD??? Geez!!! My point was someone said he came from a small private like FCS. That was their point. Then I countered that it was Catholic not Church of Christ. So I said did anyone tell him about Pope John Paul. Then the ironic thing was the sam people got mad about that??? Seriously!!!

Also where did I say he needed to go to WCHS????? I didn't say where he needed to go. That was my point! It is not anyones place to tell a kid where he needs to go but give him all the true details about the schools around here. I still think as you are doing here people bashed WCHS as you have done on here. SAD! You can't compare the 2 schools. YOu are so wrapped up in a ring you refer to and admit you really wouldn't have won had the call been correct. And yes if you teach morals and values at your school then the QB would have issues with winning that game. If you are a Christian is it right to lie???

I support no one. I just asked if anyone heard of this kid? Calm down my fellow Christians. If the kid ends up at FCS good for him.

  3. I pulled this from another thread. I see that you have something against friendship... Now this makes sense.

What makes sense I support change? Coach Caven did a good job in Smith Co and would be a good change for FCS. Kids that go to FCS have to get colleges to look at them themselves. Look you take McNeil and move him to LHS....results same as ever coach at LHS disappointment. He's nothing without getting kids to come to his program.

Plus the ring he won should be in doubt due to the overtime against Boyd. The QB was down before he crossed the goal line. Video showed this. Has to suck to be the QB b/c he has to live with the fact he knows he was down. Boyd should have moved on in a GREAT game. Bad horrible call.

Someone stated he came from a small private so that was why he would want FCS. I was just stating that FCS may say non denom but they have deep roots in the Church of Christ. THat is a fact. THis kid came from a catholic private school so thought someone should let him know. But you did not like this. B/c it would not suite your wants. I don't care where the kid goes. He is zoned for WCHS and maybe you were better than WCHS last year but you have some of the kids that should have been in their program. Not only have you done it with a kid from last year that would have palyed on the O line but Mt. Juliet has tried to pull stuff as well with some other kids.

I say leave them alone and let them choose on their own w/o people going around telling lies about other programs. That is all I have to say. THe O line kid I hear was practicing with WCHS and then.....he vanished. THen there he was at FCS. I'm not disputing that FCS is good....GREAT!!! Just don't like the method behind it. MJHS does the same thing so don't feel as if this is private vs public. Not. It's values that some programs lack. Sad when it is a Christian one.

  4. No FCS is not church of Christ, we are non denominational. And yes he went to a catholic school so does that automatically mean he is catholic ? Im not too sure. If he wants to win then FCS is a better place to go then JPII. And JPII is not in Nashville.

Calmn down coach. I know this was a secret that you didn't want out but this kid is big news. He would help WCHS where he is zoned and of course your team as well. Im just saying I hope someone told him about JP2 b/c they can give money to kids to play there and they are not bad either. With him they would be better. Just think the kid should check them out before going to your non denominational upper middle class private school.

When did they leave their Church of Christ background????

Really though someone that knows this kid let them know about JP2.

  5. Maybe he wanted to go to a Christian HS more than he wanted to play against better D's

Or maybe his parents made the decision without checking with recruiting gurus

Hopefully someone will tell him about Pope John Paul in Nashville. That would better suite his spiritual needs due to his previous school Pius X was Catholic and FCS is Church of Christ. You have to try to do what is best for the kids. So I hope someone let PJP2 know about this kid so they could talk to him as well.

  6. You are correct that he came from a private Catholic school Pius. FCS is Church of Christ. Someone should tell him about Pope John Paul in Nashville. That would be more suitable to what he came from. Plus he might get to talk to a few kids that went there and went onto d1 schools. I think Golden Tate still lives close by. So if someone would help this family out about some of the private schools around here that might suite his spiritual needs they might point him in this direction.

  7. Anyone have any news on the recruiting of the QB coming from PA? I hear he was zoned for Wilson Central High School. The kid has interest from several D1 Colleges. Friendship Christian already has him going to their school. I don't know what they told him but if he is as highly touted as I've heard by the list of colleges interested in him why Single A over 5A or whatever WCHS is. The level of play falls off quite a bit. If he plans to play for any of those colleges he should play against better d's than FCS will face. FCS is a single A power house no doubt about it and getting to kids like this before anyone else knows about them is how they will stay on top. Just hope if the kid is smart and parents too would consider what he'll gain by playing with Wilson Central over the lack of competition he'll face in 1A or whatever FCS plays in.

Anyways has anyone else heard of this kid??? I wish him the best where ever he goes! Always good to see a local kid go on to play at the college level.

  10. gordonsville has been playing some great baseball this season....what do you think is the reason for their success this year....

Wow!!! That is great!!! Good for you guys!!! FCS slipped up and you put it to them. Looks like they may have gotten knocked off their LARGE EGO!!! HA!! HA!! I think their recent recruiting coordinator transferred last year so that may be why they seem to be a little down right now. If they'd make Caven the HC the program would be top notch for years to come. He knows how to bring players in and promote their talents as well!!! Something the current HC has never done. He's a relic that needs to be put out to pasture. Go gordonsville!!! Good luck the rest of the way!

  11. it dont really matter who they've played, 39 runs in 3 games is impressive. i sure hope lebanon doesn't rain on some murfreesboro teams' parades this year. that would just be devastating to yall's ego wouldn't it?

I've got nothing but respect for the boro teams they have nothing to prove when it comes to baseball. I'm proud to see you guys winning. Keep it up and don't get the big head. Worry about tonights game against Warren Co. One game at a time, one opponent at a time. Don't look past anyone! Keep it up and good luck!

  12. nothing against L'town but really they haven't played a good team... I mean gallatina, Warren county and Tullahoma are all mediocre. We'll really see how good Lebanon is when they get into the BORO.

hey chockinonballs27 let the kids be proud of their wins and we'll see how they do when they come to the boro. nothing makes a man feel like a man than taking the wind out of some kids sails. Cool guy award goes to coughinonballs27! You da man!

  13. Lebanon will never be as good as their talent as long as their current coach is still there. Hes terrible!!

Hey shorty! Getting a little cocky since you got tall enough to ride zipper at the county fair! Got a kick out of you running those bases! How did the dirt taste? /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  14. Good job to the coach at Lebanon! He has been moving that team in the right direction since he arrived. The previous coach left the team in ruins. Many kids transferred to FCS. Looks like he has righted the ship. Good job coach! If things keep going well this year maybe LHS will finally give a baseball coach the respect he deserves instead of a pink slip. This guy is a top notch guy in all respects of the game. I wish him and his team the best of luck the rest of the year.

Who was the last LHS coach and year to beat a varsity Riverdale team?

  15. Smart move by Wilson Central. Mt. juliet provides enough competition can't have Lebanon build back up.

Bud "Opie" Brandon is trying to follow in that old coach from Shelbyville, that his dad couldn't beat, footprints. Ha!!! ha!! J/K! There are some similarities. Between Opie Tayor and Bud Brandon, that is!

  16. I really hope your kidding!!!!!

Why's that? You don't see nothing wrong with allowing kids to be free to pick and choose sports without mental pressures from adults? Especially those being paid to look out for the kid's best interests.

I love all sports. Not one more than the other. I respect all the hard work that coaches put in as well. What I don't like is coaches manipulating players/ kids. That's not right. Last I checked high school coaches don't get a bonus for victories!

  17. There isn't a rule on this. If the kid doesn't want to play for whatever reason then he/she has picked the sport that he/she wants to get better at.

Like some kids trying to practice baseball and there being spring football. You don't see fall baseball while there is football going on. Having spring football is a waste of time and baseball players might get hurt during the drills so it take them away from baseball. Thats what the football coaches want.

Not for them to get hurt but to pull them away from the baseball and keep there minds on the sport that they coach.

I just don't see this as something that should take place. Kids should be free of pressure to play whatever sport they wish. Who is to say that a kids true best sport is basketball but when he was a freshman he was pressured and chose another sport. Kids may be missing oppurtunities to get a college education due to this pressure. Just my opinion. Not a fact.

  18. Is it a violation if a coach of one sport that is in it's off-season to tell a kid that is in another sport that is in season that he has a good chance to start in his sport but he needs to really be around or someone else might get that starting spot that is showing up? That kid then goes to the coach of the in season sport and tells him he is not going to play his sport anymore. This seems wrong???????

Let me know what the rule is or what you think.

  19. It is interesting that you mention that. Gallatin has a great reputation of destroying players once they get into HS. I have seen some really good summer programs out of Gallatin. We use to play those Storm teams and they were very well Coached and had a lot of talent. So what happens when Gallatin HS gets them? I don't get it. It seems to me that HS coaches use summer ball to make extra cash from booster clubs. They could care less about performance. Most of them schedule weak teams and tournaments. It's like a glorified rec league. Stick with you competitive travel team if you want to grow and the good programs like Storm, Hit After Hit, Franklin, Brentwood have great coaching and really nourish talent. Plus they keep rosters at a minimum. Seems like HS Coaches give into parents and administration to just play kids that will never play a day after HS. Travel teams have serious committed players in most cases. Maybe some HS coaches should look a little closer at good summer coaches and get aligned!!! Most freshman and sophmores would be better served to skip the unworthy "JV" and "B" Team or god forbid freshman program and go right to a spring/summer workout program.

    Coachroach,

U sound like u no whut u'r talk'in bout. I coach at the local babe ruth 14-15 league. Yeah I'm the head coach of the Piggly Wiggly team. I've coached the all star teams the past 15 years. 20. Shoot! That's nothin'! Find a hidden gem at an LP Convention! 4'8" is a giant at these things. We're talking 3 foot wonders! Their only weakness is covering home on a wild pitch or any bases for that matter. They usually use a cart ride out to the mound and back to the dugout to save time.

Gallatin's Coach: I remember him when he was in high school. He had a carpet on his head in those days now he looks like a conehead from a Saturday Night Live skit.

    Hey CC!

Question for you......My kid throws poo! He needs all the tricks of the trade due to his lack of an arm. Where are the best places to hide vagisil, vasoline, crisco, etc.???? I need to know so he avoids getting tossed. Do you recommend using snot???

    Please help cc!

  22. QUOTE(ccriders25 @ Apr 23 2007 - 12:06 PM) 826443431[/snapback]I don't mean to butt in here, but I have seen some great drills for this. After BP, roll the cage up about 15 feet toward the pitchers mound. Have about 15 of your strongest players carry the Iron Mike on to the field (set it about 10 feet in front of the plate) Then, have the catcher assume his recieving position. Set the Iron Mike on "Pro" and let your catcher receive and then throw to 2nd. His throw must travel over the BP cage and land near 2nd base. If you want to check your timing, have your centerfielder start at his position, and then sprint to 2nd after the ball is thrown.

    CC

cc I hear you look like a mix between chewbaka and cooter off the dukes of hazzard! No wonder your boys listen to you! Sound scary!

  23. I have developed a one arm purple pooh flinger! I've made it the color purple b/c it sounds good, purple pooh flinger! It is a David and Golith sling shot, but it's purple and you can fling pooh out of it similar to cc old technique. Find a cow pasture and you can fling pooh all day to your son and before you know it he'll be a straight pooh hitter! It's great! My kid loves it! It is also environmentally friendly so Al Gore will aprove my one arm purple pooh flinger! I might see if I can't get him to endorse it.
