Don't forget Chuckey-Doak too since all of Greene County is open zoned....

So what's your point? Greeneville is a city with a population of approx. 15k. Greene County has a population of approx 75k including the city population. Greeneville is the only city high school. The county has 4 additional high schools Chuckey-Doak being 1 of them. You can pay a annual tuition to attend Greeneville HS if you live in the county outside of city limits but there is a quota on the number of students GV HS can accept based on student:teacher ratios. GV HS has a student population of under 900 and for over a decade GV played up a division in AAA always bringing it to the likes of Bearden, Farragut, Oak Ridge, Science Hill and Dobbyn's-Bennett - schools with 2000+ students. Now I've been on CoachT since the early 2000's and I have never seen an asterisk next to GV saying "good job guys and gals for playing up" but now when they play and are successful in their rightful division you want to put an asterisk on their wins.

Greene County's success is due to a commitment by the community to support its soccer youth programs, soccer genetics from Tusculum soccer alumni staying in the area and EXCELLENT coaching. No asterisk needed thank you very much,

An asterisk because now it’s almost a participation trophy.  With you guys and CAK and the rest gone, it’s not the accords accomplishment that it once was.  So, asterisk in my book anyway.

You never heard me complaining about the privates...frankly I hate that y’all are gone.

No asterisk next to Greeneville's ladies - they competed against the privates and came out on top the past 2 years. Same with their mens team last year.

The kids play against whom ever they are pitted against. Please don't  diminish their hard work and accomplishments.

  3. I was simply going by the last enrollment figure that I saw from 2015 and it may have been for 2014?. You may be right but that's what I did see. I'm not complaining......Greeneville is a machine and I believe they could beat anyone in East TN regardless of class or division.

For over a decade GV played up in AAA. Only recently have they played in AA where they belong. They have always been strong.

  4. where's Greeneville in all this? They were in the final four along with CAK, Notre Dame, and CPA

First of all this is a pre-tourny prediction and not a final ranking. Eurosport has Greeneville listed post-tourny as #4 in D1 AA as it should be.

Second this is a TN top 50 list so you are up against D1 AAA, AA, and D2. Since you didn't fare well against most AAA schools, finished fourth in AA and have no idea just how good some of the D2 schools are (eg Baylor) I would be surprised if Greeneville finished in the top 20 on this list.

  5. From the Greeneville Paper:

the state soccer tournament, but the state record book is littered with achievements by Greeneville soccer.

Greeneville is second in state history in most goals scored in a single game when the Lady Devils scored 22 against Cocke County on Sept. 23, 2004.

Looks like Greeneville has a history of showing no mercy on an opponent....(See Biggest Score This Season Thread, where Greeneville drummed up on Cumberland Gap 18-0 THIS season)...

Sorry, if this is the same coach, this deserves a big BOO !

    D

Cumberland Gap was beaten twice by Elizabethton - 16-0 and 11-1. Now that's Elizabethton - at best an average team this year. Sounds like the Greeneville score could have been much worse if the coach didn't pull the starters after the first 20 minutes.

By the way, did you complain when UT put 60+ points up a few weeks ago??

  6. I agree with Big G that this should be the game of the tournament. I am really looking forward to watching it. Greeneville's back line looked strong and I know ND's line is strong. Greeneville will need to figure out how to handle bigger midfielders.

You are right. This maybe the deciding factor as although Greeneville plays physical - they are not BIG and physical (except in GK position)

  7. Greeneville's team is mostly Juniors (3 Seniors on the team -1 is a starter) who played extensively last year in AAA competition so they are seasoned. Also they have been playing together on the club team for several years. They are also carrying with them the hopes of all those previous AAA Greeneville teams which seemed get just so close to getting to States only to lose a close one to Bearden, Farragut or OR in Sectionals. They are on a mission. It should be a very good game. Good luck to both teams.

  8. Good win by Greeneville!

On another note, Page Coach Pete Wade had some interesting quotes after the game. One of which was "Greeneville is not that much better than David Lipscomb, a team we beat in the sectionals. We were flat and we did not play our game."

I know he was probably upset after a hard fought loss, but how about giving some credit to his opponent instead of implying that Greeneville had nothing to do with Page losing the game.

Actually it was Greeneville that was flat and didn't play its best game. This was their first real game since the Oak Ridge game on 10/3 and it shows. Too bad the Page coach didn't word his comments a little more graciously.

  9. I agree. I think Greeneville vs. Page and CPA vs. CCS should be best games of the first round.

We'll see this week if the Page scoring sensation is all she has been promoted to be, or if (as some people have suspected), her stats have been inflated by running up the score against weak opponents.

I'll also be interested in seeing how Page does in the tournament. The advantage goes to Greeneville for strength of schedule. While they might not have beaten those opponents, but I think it will prepare them well by facing a tough squad.

All of Greeneville's 5 loses came at the hands of AAA teams all of which are currently ranked in the top 10 (except Farragut which was most of the season) and except for Bearden, none was a blowout. Geeneville's major problem is since their district and region were so non-competitive, their starters only get to play half of every game before getting pulled. They haven't played a full competitive game since the Oak Ridge game on 10/3.

  10. Any word on Page vs Greeneville from anyone who knows something about both? Don't know much about Page except they are undefeated which should mean something. Greeneville is pretty solid defensively so it should be a good matchup with Page's previously reported offensive power. Greeneville's goalie is a monster. She is big, quick and has one of the fastest 40 on the team so it should be interesting.
