  1. I am Greeneville fan- also a South Greene fan and also a CD fan as you can see by one of my posts in 2005 below. I enjoy and support all soccer in Greene County and East TN. My only agenda here is I felt the thread was started under false pretenses. Since that may not to be the case, lets move on to address the intent of the thread.

    QUOTE(kristicdsoccer9 @ Oct 14 2005 - 12:18 PM)

We have to play some weaker teams such as the ones in our district. That is unavoidable. Coach Ricker does schedule us harder games such as tennesse high and sullivan...ah I forget which sullivan we played. But she has tried to schedule more tougher teams, but we have to play what we have to play. And the University High game, we were having team problems, but we are back to ourself. We are district champs. One championship down, two to go. For all you critics you'll see how we do. And by the way we have an excellent coach

Absolutely no crtiticism from this Greeneville fan. You ladies have done an excellent job and Greene County is proud of you. Congrats on your district title and the season thus far. Keep playing hard. Also, as a bit of information to those of you on this forum, Chuckey-Doak lost one of it's players in a tragic car accident this past week which I'm sure weighed heavy on their minds in the last 2 games. They certainly deserve our respect as a class act.

  2. To woodeng: I don't really care if you are a little annoyed - so am I. As I said, if you are who you say you are then I apoligized. The only thing I'm touchy about is false intentions but I guess some have decided that is not the case. And no I don't think I know who you are but I am curious, what country are you in if you don't mind sharing that.

  3. Soccer67 That post was not even fair to Woodeng. He never once said the other teams he watched did or dind't play soccer "the right way". To imply the man doesn't know what he is looking at or may not know how to coach is incredulous. He was simply noting that a school, not known for soccer, could have the understanding of the game without having some club influence. I think it's great and Chuckey Doak fans should take that as a compliment. He asked for some input, as I read it, about this team which would let him know the teams background.

I gave him some pertinent information. I also was suspicious. The boards are loaded with threads started by people claiming to someone other than who they really are in an attempt to prop up a particular team or player; to start a controversy; or to just get themselves some pats on the back. I thought it strange that the thread would be started a month after the mentioned jamboree and days after a couple of wins. I may be wrong. If woodeng is truely who he says he(or she) is and has the credentials stated then I sincerly apoligize to him/her.

But let me say this - good teams and players do it quietly on the field not on the message boards. They schedule the toughest competion in order to test and improve (and prove) themselves.

As a side note - a small school that I feel is deserving of pat on the back and our admiration is South Greene High. It is a small rural school that breathes basketball 24/7. The soccer program was started a year ago by some dedicated players and parents. They have no field and must practice on the baseball outfield. They are unable to practice corner kicks due to the field size constraints. They are winless but play their hearts out. Props to them and I'll pop a cork when they get that first win.

Good luck to Chuckey Doak - make it another successful season. Nothing would make me happier than a couple of Greene County schools at States.

  4. Anyone know who coaches Chuckey Doak? They aren't listed on Eurosport. They are really close to Tusculum college, so I would imagine they could get some pretty good coaching if they pursued that avenue.

WoodenG, I hope that you are coaching somewhere. To have the license that you have and not coach would be a travesty! Believe me when I say I understand how hard it is to get those licenses (I am pursuing my National License this winter which is through the NSCAA and it is long and expensive and I believe is the equivalent to a UEFA C). Are you doing any club or high school coaching? And if you don't mind saying, are you located around Knoxville?

    Anna Ricker is the coach.

  5. To soccer67: Well, im neither a fan or a player of Chuckey Doak. Im actually a UEFA B coach (i dont know the american equvilant), but its the highest coaching qual you can gain without being a successful ex professional player . They play an apporpriate formation, ie, 4-4-2 (not the W - M, which I also saw), they seemed to understand defensive tactics (how to play a correct sweeper system, not standing on their 18 yard box), and used width appropirately and were direct in 1v1 situations. Was just a sweeping statement, but thanks for the information.

PS: Id be happy to offer my coaching help if you require on the right way to coach soccer!

So let me get this straight; you went to a pre-season jamboree which included teams like Farragut and Oak Ridge and came away thinking Chuckey Doak was the team which demonstrated to all the others the right way to play soccer. Is that what you are saying? If so, I respectfully decline your offer of coaching help.

  6. Who and how do you know this? I spoke with parents of the Greenville Program and they knew of no school talking to her. LIke I said in my post, I did not know if she was or wasn't a newcomer. If there are schools talking to her then good for her. She will be a real prize for some coach.

I know a little bit about Greeneville soccer... and I know her father.

  7. Greeneville has an awesome crop of Freshman (about 14 girls). 5 have started several games. Caroline Lodge is a forward to watch. They also have a Freshman goalie on the bench - Alyssa Crum - she is big, quick and fearless when coming out. She would be a starter on most other teams but GV has an excellent Junior GK in Anna Stroud.

  8. Just some observations from the Katie Hunter Tournament concerning some freshman or otherwise new players.

Greenville has a great goalkeper, Anna Stroud. Greenville graduauted their goalkeeper last year and this young lady played great in her first year as a starter.

Another young lady that plays for Greenville is Patience Leonard. She is a senior and no one knows if a college is even looking at her. Great quick decisions, foot skills, works hard to track back and win the ball. Her style of play fits her name. If I were putting together an All-Tournament team she would be in the top 11. Don't know how much play time she has had or a newcomer she is..but some college is missing out on a jewel.

A freshman that is doing great in a tough situation is Rebecca Perkins. She is the goalkeeper who had to step in at Farragut for Megan Buzzeo. Being a freshman and her back line not comfortable with her yet is huge. Against Houston she made some saves that kept the game close. She is very smart and if learns to read the game can put herself in better positions to make easier saves. In time she could be special for the Lady Admirals.

Two players on Powell that are freshman and doing well are Amanda Huffaker, goalkeeper, and Mali Collins.

These were some players that caught my eye. There were others but I don't know their names or if they are really newcomers.

Patience Leonard is not a newcomer - she made All-State as a Sophmore. She is tough, never gives up and rarely makes a mistake. I believe several D1 schools are trying to sign her.

  9. Having recently visited the University High Jamboree last month and watching many top teams such as Faragut etc, I stumbled across a small town team, Chuckey Doak. I believe they have no club players and made the A/AA state tournamnet two years ago. They played some great soccer and played it the right way! Has anybody seen these play in the last two years? What do you think?

I'm assuming "woodeng" who joined CoachT today is a Chuckey Doak fan or player... but I'll bite. Chuckey-Doak is the 2nd largest AA sized school located in Greene County (Greeneville is the largest but plays up to AAA) approx 3 miles from Greeneville. Actually several of the girls played on Greeneville Galaxy (Tiffany Brown from last year; Dingus and Adams on the current team to name a few). All their players have had the opportunity to play on the several Galaxy teams. I'm not exactly sure what "played it the right way" means (actually I do - look up some of the posts from the 2005 States-semi game against FRA to find out) but would love to hear woodeng's explanation. My feeling is they are flying high after beating winless South Greene 7-0 Tuesday night.

  10. On Sunday, Farragut was playing their 5th game in 4 days. They may not have had anything left in the tank for that match.

Reviewing the schedule it looks like Farragut's first two games of the Tourny were against weak teams. I would think they could win both with minimal output by their starters thereby saving them for the tougher games against Houston and Collierville.

  11. Greenville did beat Farragut and Oak Ridge. Farragut had two teams so who knows how they were split up. Oak Ridge started with their second team the first 20 minutes and played their starters the last 20 minutes. It seemed to me the starters dominated Greeneville. They play during the season I think so we will see what happens. Greeneville is a very good team, but I would say OR wins with starters vs. starters.

That's an interesting assesment - you rest your starters for the first half of a game played in 95 degree heat and then bring them in fresh to play against players who have already played a half; you are pretty much "given" 1 of your goals; lose by one and then declare you dominated play. Talk about spin.

  12. Hey, BigG, how about this: Vital goes to ETSU, Castainca moves to Carson Newman, we get rid of the athletic director at Tusculum and you take the position at Tusculum. Sounds like a great fit for everyone.

Ilovethis game: what will happen to the guys on the team for next year. Any word?

  13. Any news on what they are going to do about a men's coach at Tusculum?

I only know what I have read. Tusculum is looking for a new head coach. Sounds like Ilovethisgame has more info on the subject.

ETSU is hiring a head coach for their new men's D1 program to start next year. The position is on their web site.

  14. The Knoxville version reads pretty much the same (see my earlier post).

It was a great game - great defense in the scoreless 1st half and LOTS of offense in the 2nd half. Props to Bearden. They played two exhaustive games prior to this one and still looked formitable.

Greeneville runs the trap alot and does it well but you put your faith in the refs getting it right. Unfortunately, they are usually over weight, out of shape middle aged guys who think they can keep up with these athletic girls and they can't.

  15. Congrats to Greeneville's Lady Devils. You had a school history making season and should be proud of your accomplishment this year.

Greeneville loses only three (albeit very important) Seniors from this year's squad so I suspect they will be pretty good next year.

For a AA sized school (about 800 students) that plays up to AAA from a town of 15,000 - You played right up there with the "Big Dogs" and did us proud.

  16. Greeneville has several Sophmore and Freshman who start or take turns starting

MF/Fwd - Hannah Abelson - starter - Soph - she is big, aggressive and a rocket for a leg

Aly Carrino - striker and occasional starter - Soph - just coming off ACL repair - 9 goals as a Frosh and 5 goals last several games since being released to play - small but very fast

Emily Freeman - MF - Soph starter - sister of All-State MF Stephanie Freeman from a few years ago.

Kristin Leng - Soph - starter on defense.

Katie Lamons - Freshman - occasional starter on defense - also small but fearless

Katie Anderson - Freshman striker - 8 goals coming off the bench

GV also has an excellent crop of 8th graders (about 12) coming in next year all with traveling experience and will only be losing 3 Seniors so it looks good for awhile.

  17. Some JV teams are better than some other team's varsity. So what happens when the varsity squad scores a quick 6 and the JV players who never get a chance to play come in, play to impress the coach, mom and dad, etc and continue the seige. Is it fair to those JV girls to tell them not to play their hearts out when it may be the only time they get to play all year?

  18. Just about every team from 1-13 has won, lost or tied each other. I think it is parity in AAA not poor soccer and it is making for a very exciting season.

Also I stated on another thread I didn't think Oak Ridge deserved to drop that far down because of a 1 goal loss to DB this past weekend. We played both teams this weekend and Oak Ridge is certainly the better team.
