  1. IHS pitched their sidearm pitcher who was clocked at 78-80mph and BHS could not get a hit to save their lives but no need to shake the line-up Popovich.

  2. Isn't Johnson, who "throws 90 plus", the same kid who got beat 12-0 by Cullman HS out of alabama over spring break? I heard he didn't last 2 innings. I'm sure thats why the coach didn't put him in. Probably didn't want his team suffering another one of those scenarios.

I stand by my predictions still. Centennial will win state over franklin with Phillup Bagsby doing the pitching in the championship game. Final score will be 10-1 on a perfect game by Phillup.

If I rememember coreectly, Johnson went into the 5th inning and only allowed 4 runs.....and I believe this is the only 4 earned runs he has allowed all year.

  3. CJdore, SInce your son is obviously so good and has been contacted by every school in the mid state except for MTSU why are you so worried about MTSU. That means Vandy has contacted him and if that is the case go to Vandy. What about Belmont back to back regionals they must have contact you guys as well. Sounds like he has a ton of choices and you are worried about MTSU. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I am not worried about MTSU at all. I just am stating the facts. VU and Belmont have called. Lipscomb, Tevecca, and UT Martin have already offered. Navy is offering this week. My whole point in replying to this thread is that MTSU either does not need a pitcher or else they are slow to react......this is all.

  4. Hard to recruit to MTSU? I say no. I think the coaches are lazy. My son plays high school ball and plays on one of the most competitive travel teams in the middle TN area, yet I never see MTSU coaches at games. I have seen Vanderbilt, Murry, APSU, ETSU, UT-M, Belmont, Lipscomb, Columbia State, Jackson State, Maryville College, Rhodes, but NO sign of MTSU at any games. If this new coach wants to be a power, he better not miss the local talent.

  5. Franklin and Brentwood are both prohibitive favorites, I'll be shocked if Hunters Lane goes more than five innings with the Rebels especially. Overton is a bit stronger though, do they have any chance vs. the Bruins? A decent #1 pitcher maybe?

With Brentwood's "Coach" anyone has a chance to beat them. Overton proved it tonight. He leaves Shelton in an inning too long, and keeps playing one outfielder that can't hit and has no superior arm and proved it tonight. Brentwood is loaded with talent and yet cannot win the district tournament,or the opening round of the regionals. Same players have made the same errors all year and yet he sticks with the same 9-10 players. Look for many to abandon this team and coach next year. His lack of control of this team post game tonight continues to reflect his lack of leadership.

  6. I am interested in who y'all think the best teams will be from this district and who the impact players will be?

    My predictions are:

    1. Brentwood, with many seniors leading the offense, and Shelton leading the rotation, this will be a tough team to beat. The loss of Ashcraft won't hurt as bad as people think.

    2. Franklin, Don't know much about them but a scrappy team who will fight down to the last out, as they did with ravenwood and brentwood last year in the district tournament. The loss of Little will hurt but they will find a way to bounce back.

    3. Ravenwood, with the new coach coming in, going to be hard to predict how they will pan out. They have limited varsity experience but with Ben Brock leading the rotation they will put up a fight. Look for surprising young talent to be a key role in their success this year on the varsity level.

    4. Centenial, with a young class last year, they will have many guys coming up that have played varsity last year. Good young talent and will be especially good in years to come.

    5. Indy, with the losses of Miller, Tuscano, Burdick, and other talented players, they will be a much weaker team than this district has seen over the past couple of years. Look for surprising young talent to play a key role in their success.

    6. Hillsburro, Never a competitor in the district.

Actually Brentwood does not have many Srs. They are loaded with Jrs. It looks like 3 Jr pitchers may lead the staff (Shelton, Johnson, Walker)

  7. Hi

We just moved to Nashville from STL- yes we're Cardinal fans!! My son pitches and plays 3rd base. He is 5'10" and just turned 14 in April of this year, so I do not know the age cut off limits.

Available to plays on teams, tourneys or travel team.

    Thanks Jim

    Jim,

Welcome to middle TN. Most competitive travel teams hold tryouts here in early Fall. You may keep trying the message boards here and at the sandlot dot com for teams that may have a late season roster spot to fill.

  8. Wow I did not see that one coming. I will eat some crow on this one. I did not get to attend last night's game, but why would Miller and Toscano throw in the same game?

Seems to me it puts them in a whole the rest of the series. Oh well I can't question Coach Moore, he has won a lot more games than I have.

Brentwood is an impressive young team, and they may rally around their new coach.

BHS closed out Indy with a 12-2 game with Kevin Stoffer taking the win. IHS has a very impressive pitching staff but in their 2 losses gave up 24 runs while their bats scored only 6. IHS may need to batting cage time to help out this pitching staff. Good Luck the rest of the season!

  9. Tonight Brentwood took game 1 of 3 against Independance 12-4. Toscano takes the loss and Shelton gets the win. IHS threw a lot of arms at BHS ,including Miller, but most had a hard time finding the strike zone and their bats were held at bay with I believe 4 hits. I would expect for Miller to get start on game 2 or 3 tomorrow and may get a win but this series is up for grabs.

  10. Any update on the Brentwood/Hillsboro games? Scores? How they look? etc..

BHS won on Monday at Hillsboro (not sure of score) and BHS run ruled them at home on Tuesday. Wednesday's game was cancelled

  11. I watched the 9-U Nitro team this weekend throw multiple curveballs. Their guys actually tried to tell people that it would not hurt their arms because they were throwing 12-6. First off, no they were not. They were all throwing 2-8 and snapping the bejesus out of their elbows. And not just one pitcher, but at least the three different ones that I saw pitch so probably every kid that toes the mound for them. Sounds good in theory. And I am sure that they are happy with their trophy, but I bet a lot of those kids have arm trouble before too long. For what? A 9-U trophy? Ridiculous.

Totally concur Chief........a kid should throw curveballs when he starts to shave at the earliest. Throwing them as early as 9 will cause irrepairable damgage to their arms and elbows.

  12. My son is now 14 but is playing up on a 15U elite team. He currently throws a 75-78MPH 4 seam fast ball. Also throws a 2 seam, a cutter, and a change up. He would like to work on his pitching in the off season now that fall ball has concluded. Need a great pitching coach for the next 12 weeks.

  13. You folks are forgetting one.......Ryan Shelton is 2nd team all state and will be catching this year for Brentwood High when his Kansas City Royals showcase schedule is done. Getting looks at the next level.

  14. There are a couple of Brentwood High players that will be getting alot of attention in the Spring. Robby Ray is currently on the USA baseball team and will be bringing it to the plate for BHS before he leaves to play for Vanderbilt next year.

Also Ryan Shelton is 2nd team all state catcher and is currently catching for the KC Royals Scout team.
