  1. Good job Lady Rines tonight....Oakland played a good game, hung around & made a game out of it.

Barrett is shooting the ball well for Oakland, good job. Also, the post player, is going to be tough the next few years, like her game, really physical on the inside.

For LaVergne, way to step up seniors JB, JD, Quinta & Steph....it's almost your last hurrah, let's do this the next 3 games!!

  2. Yes you're going to cry Thunder bird.Pack your bag because this is it.

LOL....u crazy bballlady...hey, the other question is what am I going to do this summer, can I travel with yall??

you are not going to be able to hold it together so just cry and get it over with LOL...

    @ RDMan....too funny :thumb:
  3. LSM, appreciate the time you spent getting the information. The last game of the regular season is always suspect and seems to never be a District Game for just that reason.

Thank you PHargis for always keeping the information up to date with all the box scores and the upcoming tournament schedule on this thread! We don't have to go search for all of this on other sites because you are always on top of it!

It is hard to believe that the regular season is almost over. It is especially difficult when your daughter is a senior! :hungry: In my opinion, 7AAA is the best district that a student athlete could ever be a part of and we will never forget the ride even though it has been a "bumpy" one at times.

    Thanks again.

I can relate to that SR thing ive already had 1graduate and now My SR now is about to start his last season on monday as a WARRIOR once baseball season hits in the blink of an eye he will be gone to Jackson

Awww, yall are about to make me cry...I have a SR to & have been trying to figure out how I was going to hold it together on SR night. You are right, it's all about to be over what a great year it's been.

  4. Take it from the folks at LaVergne, Julian did not sit out because of grades, it was because he transferred back to LaVergne & was not within the required distance from Brentwood Academy. He missed playing last year by one game, when he became eligible, LaVergne was put out of play by Gallatin.

I actually think at this time Julian is probably the best all-around player in 7AAA, very versatile, can play on both ends of the floor which you don't see often with boys, very valuable to LaVergne.

  5. JP - I'm with you. The girls did look much better tonight. Still a little slow start, but seemed to hang in there and get kicking a lot earlier in the game. They're looking more like the team we know they can be. Good job Lady Wolverines! (and good game to you too, Smyrna. Your ladies had some beautiful shots!)

Yep, a little slow, but I think that was more of a turnover issue than anything... they will be ok. Quinta is getting stronger & stronger each game. This was probably her best game back. She had ice water in her vein when she stepped up and knocked those 2 free throws down. JB had a strong game on the boards & JD, Kayla & Swope knocked down some all important 3's. Steph is going to have to start using the glass around the basket, once she does that, it's going to make things a lot easier for her scoring wise.

  6. Officiating is just one of several facets of the game. In the end, it still always come down to execution. Those teams that do that will win, 100% of the time.

Wow hadn't thought of it that way :roflolk: . So lets just do away with the officials and the rules of the game and let it really come down to execution. From the games in 7AAA I've seen this year there hasn't been much officiating anyway. That way the schools can save $160 a week.

You guys moan and groan about officiating, just showing you how stupid and useless it is.

It's probably much similar to your post :geek:

  7. I have come to accept the fact that there is no "A" officiating crew in district 7aaa. I think there are 2 "D" crews and 1 "F" crew. We had one of the "D" crews tonight. We had the "F" crew last week in the Oakland game. Again they don't favor any team, there just real bad.

I think maybe we had the "F" crew tonight.... Seriously, are there ANY decent refs in this district? Week after week we seem to get guys that are horrible.

Their performance went downhill as the games went on tonight. They started out decent, but as the girls' game went on their calls were not consistent, and you never knew what it was going to be. I think our boys' game may have set a record for the number of "T's" that were called, and they were called on both teams. Some on players, and at least one on a coach/bench against Smyrna. The fouls were so ludicrous Smyrna's scorekeeper was even rolling his eyes cause so many had been called against LaVergne.

I'm pretty sure it was the "F" crew, absolutely horrible especially in the boy's game...I think I heard the foul count was 27 to 5 in favor of Smyrna in the second half & OT period. A "hot mess"....but back to the girl's game.

I was glad to see our girls play more agressive tonight, pretty good defense for the most part. I think we got a little complacent in the 4th after we got up by 12 & forgot Smyrna could shoot the "3 ball." They made about 4 3's in a row, which evaporated that lead rather quickly. This also gave them the momemtum but give credit to our girls who stayed composed & was able to pull out a victory. Even though the victory was by 3, this has been the best the girls have played in the last few games. I see where we can be come March and it's a matter of the girls staying mentally focus and start back playing like they were the earlier part of the season.

    Way to go Lady Wolverines!

  8. jazzy, now is the time all of these off the wall rules come out of the closet. Sometimes they are the difference in winning and losing a game as close as these games are now being played and for instance, for Smyrna, could have made a difference in a technical in a large amount of games. Important, ask your coach and why weren't the players reminded. He likely did. As with the WC game which was important, you have now 5 other teams that are looking for that little edge. It can make the difference between a W and L. Now is the time that mental errors are important too. Jazzy, an explanation was given. Seems as if this could have been a safety issue. I don't think that would bother you and I believe you would definitely agree with it and no technicals were given, only a warning. Sounds as if you have everything under control. The officials certainly were trying to keep any trouble down. Your coaches were reminded of the rule. You remembered the situation that happened at Wilson Central. Likely the pregame celebration needs to be changed a little and you might be able to suggest that. But you are right, unless it changed for this game, 20 plus games in the season is a little late. But I think you will agree, if that is the rule, it is the rule. Lets go to the next game. I think we all appreciate your remembrance of what happened at WC but if this is the rule, don't know why someone on the coaching staff did not monitor it since it was called on lavergne before a few years back. Post if there is a problem.

The tech a year back against WC was given under totally different circumstances, nothing to do with what I discussed earlier. I don't think the girls were doing any pregame celebration, I really think it comes down to an official trying to pull rank. I did check the TSSAA website & notice there's a form that can be completed if something strange happens at a game. I will look into it if something like this happens again.

  9. referees have jursidiction over the court until they actually leave the floor so technically they could issue technicals after the game is over. Although I have never seen it done before

I knew that & saw it done a couple of years ago when LaVergne played at Wilson Central.

I got a better explanation, she said they were told when the run out at the very beginning, before the game starts, they cannot go midcourt & high five each other. If they did it would be a technical. She said the referee told this to one of the coaches after the game was over. I have seen teams do this all the time & for a ref to mention it 20+ games in the season, seems rather strange.

  10. Jazzy, whoa, you mean those Siegel referees showed up for last nites game. Whew, I had promised RD that those would be saved for the game with RD. Well, thats 3 more for the RD game............three for the Tournament.........OH me, life isn't easy.

Yep, they were there! I think they were even more impressive during the boys' game... looked like one of the refs and one of Siegel's coaches were making dinner plans :thumb: or something. Coach seemed to have more to say to the ref (with a smile on his face) than his own team during some timeouts. LOL - Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll be someplace besides the LaVergne/Smyrna game Friday night?

Agreed lavergne5, it's going to be tough enough playing @ Smyrna, so we definately don't need that type of foolishness going on from the referees!! My daughter said they were told they would be "t'd up" if they ran out again at the half court line & this was after the game was over....is this a new rule or something?

  11. Lady Blaze again struggled last night. Played good defense but just can't seem to put the ball in the basket consistently. Jackson was the only one that I thought played a really good offensive game

We will not beat Riverdale playing like that but I do believe they can rise to the occasion. They seem to play their best against the really good teams

I think Friday's game is going to be a good one...good to hear Tanya is playing good ball. She could be the key to the struggling offense over there. Contrary to what oldhoopsdad posted, RD won't have anymore "statement games" as they did w/LaVergne. Should be a close one down to the end.

  12. Jazzy, whoa, you mean those Siegel referees showed up for last nites game. Whew, I had promised RD that those would be saved for the game with RD. Well, thats 3 more for the RD game............three for the Tournament.........OH me, life isn't easy.

Too funny!!! I have to go back & use one of bballlady's quote....I think they might have been from Footlocker...if so, tell them we don't need or want their services anymore. They can stay right where they are & make their $7.25/hr & call it a night.

  13. Game Summary

These stats are unofficial for these games. The winners were Riverdale, Lavergne and Blackman. 7AAA games were true to the previous games. Lavergne again started flat and Siegel kept up with them until the last quarter as Shanice Cason took over the game for Siegel leading all scorers and being the top rebounder for the Stars since Siegel played without two of their post players.

Riverdale started out strong but Smyrna came back at the end and almost pulled it out but again lost a close one.

Oakland played Blackman very tough and lost by 10 points

    .

I don't know Phargis....it seems you pointed out that LaVergne didn't start well BUT looking at the box scores, it doesn't appear any team played well tonight. Being off 8 days/11 days appears to have had an effect on ALL teams.

I think you might be right. We might say Siegel was lucky. Lost two post players for the night, had to use its shortest player to likely out rebound everyone on the floor while she was hurt also and only lost by 12. Used a very short bench playing that over achieved from other games. Smyrna used the same formula they used before which included out scrapping the team it played and being more ready to play than its opponent. Coach Mid's comment on the Smyrna web site was true and evidently Smyrna players read it. To paraphrase it "You have to be ready to play every night because you can lose to anyone in this District". Blackman did come closer since they played about their regular defensive game.

BUT all three won. I think you are right, All teams were off 8/11 days which 4 days were Sat/Sun. This IS a tough time of the year.

Yep, with school back in session, I think we can expect to see these teams get back on the right path.

Also, Siegel wasn't too short handed, they had 3 addt'l players that had striped shirts on that filled in rather nicely... :hungry:

  14. There are two young ladies that injuries have affected their SR year and if not injured would be forerunners for Ms. Basketball. Those two young ladies are LaQuinta Jefferson & Lakeisha Crouch.

LaQuinta has led the Lady Wolverines in scoring the last 3 years at LaVergne High School, she also help lead the Lady Wolverines to a substate appearance last year, losing to eventual state champions Hillsboro High School. She has been on DNJ 1st team for the last 3 years and also district 9AAA 1st team for the last 3 years. She is a finnesse player that can score at will. Since we are throwing out ESPN Scout grades, she is currently ranked 64 on the current 2010 ESPN class and has a scout grade of 94. She is currently a leader on the LaVergne High School 20-1 team and has signed to play women's basketball at the University of KY.

Don't know Lakeisha stats but she led her Hillsboro High School team to the state championship last year. This girl can flat out play, can score, handle the ball & is a beast on the boards... It's unfortunate that a knee injury had to end her SR campaign. Lakeisha is ranked 25 in the current 2010 ESPN class and has a scout grade of 95. She also has signed with Xavier University.

Good luck to both of these ladies on the next level.

  15. WOW WHAT A GAME We had a very poor shooting night tonight and really did not play real good basketball BUT we still got the win and anytime you can have a bad game and still win in this district is a good night.

Give credit to smyrna they hit shot after shot to stay in the game as we would try and extend the lead one of their girls shot a 3 and i still dont know how that ball went in. smyran played a great ball game and played hard the whole time and we got lucky and Barbee hit 2 HUGE free throws with about 7 seconds to go to put us up by 1. I AM not sure if we even hit a 3 tonight as the whole team was cold from outside and even inside some GREAT coaching job by coach middleton and great job by our LADY WARRIORS to pull of the win

    GO LADY WARRIORS

Wow...when I heard the score, I thought RD possibly had a poor shooting night. Not taking anything away from Smyrna, because they are a good team also... do you think RD took them for granted & thought it would be an easy win?

  17. Hey Jazzy It was a pleasure meeting you last summer! Thank you for the kind words!! I know in the heat of competition sometimes we forget there are great kids playing this sport we love from one end of the state to another. The 2010 kids from across the sate will always hold a special place in my memory. The coaches and parents we have met from other organizations were almost always a delight to get to know......(notice i said almost always!.lol) I hope your daughter has a great senior season!

Thanks & I agree great kids, 2010 class is awesome & watch the impact they will make for their various programs on the next level....so far my daughter's SR year has been good. Probably her best. Hopefully, she & her team will continue to play well & we will have the opportunity to meet one of the IMAC team in the the state tournament... :roflolk:

  18. RIVERDALE vs oakland has been moved to thursday night at 630...chili supper for the football team has been moved to next friday at 530 and it will be at RIVERDALE so eat some chili then go to blackman for the game

    GO LADY WARRIORS

Do you know if this was announced last night or today?....haven't heard if the Blackman/LaVergne game will be moved. I hope not, I have class tonight.

  19. Good post. Cason did score 17 points and plays better when injured. To give him credit, CoachB is very good at designing big plays and putting the ball where it needs to go. Your last sentence explained it all. Siegel finished at the end.

To be more accurate, Cason "gets injured" a lot.

Interesting comment, curious what you meant by "get injured".....Been watching Shanice play for a very long time....she plays very hard, takes a lot of charges & probably sacrifice her body way too much. Even with the injuries, she doesn't seem to take much time off from playing. Heard they lost Connell for the rest of the season with a broken ankle.....tough break for Siegel. (no pun intended)

  20. Totally agree I have had the honor of getting to know these young ladys over the years and you cant find better !!!! I unfortunately dont know Sidney but have heard great things about her. Shannon and her family will always be special to me. Heck....I was afraid of Newport before the Depews,Budas and Sparks taught me what amazing people they have! Taylor is quiet.....but dont let that fool you....she has a delightful sense of humour and really a good kid!.....Ill stop gushing now...but the IMAC has been blessed with outstanding basketball players. We talk about 3 but leave so many out. Morgan Buda....Outstanding!!! And headed for Pre Med? Samantha Hale,Casey Cowen,Shay Brown, Im leaving out one of the outstanding shooters at MW because the name escapes me at the moment.

Ive seen the experts say the class of 2010 was down on a national level. They need to look again....We may not be filling the rosters of NC,UCONN,UT,etc but we sure are sending quality young people off to places of higher learning that appreciate them!

Hey robpride....had the pleasure of meeting you at one of the AAU events in Murfreesboro over the summer....what an awesome post. I'm sure your program has had a postive impact on alot of girls in that area. Keep up the good work!!

  21. Smyrna traveled to Siegel tonite and had another barn burner but the luckless Bulldogs lost on a last second out of bounds play 46-44. Shanice Cason made the last points. Siegel was hampered by an ankle injury to Connel. This game starts off the second half District play in 7AAA as a single District game played and was of great interest to fans to see who will keep up with the top three schools in regular season that will effect the tournament seedings.

In non District matchups, Oakland beat Centenial 67-42 and felt some relief not having to compete this week in 7AAA.

I went to this game....got there in the 2nd qrt, Smyrna was up 27-12 & I believe the Connell girl was already out. Siegel went on a 15-4 run with the score at halftime, 31-27 in favor of Smyrna. Went back & forth during the 3rd, with Smyrna keeping the lead. Siegel tied the game in the 4th qrt & went ahead by 2. Smyrna came back & tied it up. Siegel then held the ball for the last shot, Coach Bush called a timeout with 18 seconds. Ball was inbounded to Cason, she had a good drive to the basket but her shot came up short. There was a tie up, and Siegel maintain possession. With 3 seconds left on the clock, Siegel called a timeout. Siegel ran their play but the referee had not handed the ball to the player to be inbound, so they had to run it again. Cason went backdoor & was wide open for an easy layup.......great game by Siegel to comeback & get the victory without Connell & Shanice playing with a sore hand. Smyrna played well until the last 3 minutes of this game, maybe tired from the games the had on Sat & Mon, don't know but they let a possible victory slip thru their fingers.

  22. 84% shooting will kill any team, 19 wins or not. Jazzy I think that this was one sentence in your reply to my post. My question to you is, doesn't defense or lack thereof dictate the shooting percentage of an opposing team? Now does this make sense?

*Sigh* ....... At this point since the game is in the past & there is nothing that can be done to change the outcome, what relevance does your question have?

  23. This was my post in reference to a thread back in November that ask the question could LV win the gold this year.

No offense intended but from what I've seen so far this year I would be focus on the district first.

I have been attending ladies high school basketball games way before my daughter was born and will continue to attend them long after she has finished playing. Bottom line is I'm a fan. ;)

Jazzy, I wasn't downing your team then (as you replied I was) and I'm not now. I was giving an opinion base on the 4 teams from 7aaa that I had seen to that point. It's gonna be a battle to the end good luck to all!!!!

That's was back in November....had actually forgotten about this until now. Yep, it will be a battle, already is. Looks like yall might have one as well with Cannon Co.
