  1. awe man is this going to be a fun year or what!

I think so RDMan.....u been in hibernation or what??....I thought Phargis might have ran you off....hehehe :D Sorry, Mr. Phargis I couldn't resist.

What's yall take on the beginning of district play next week?? Who is Riverdale playing? Too lazy to go & look at the schedule.

Ok Jazzy Lady, RD has a way of taking care of himself but the question some of the Blackman fans are asking is are the Lavergne fans going to support the team this year? Here you have one of the best teams in the STATE and granted a talented group of players but it takes FANS to pull it all together and a place to sit. Certainly its laVergne's strategy to get a big start over Blackman with a outstanding win and go to #1 in the standings, but Blackman fans know it takes their fans to help pull the team thru in those games that have been close so far this year. It's almost been the "Cardiac" Blaze with those close games.s At this posting, two undefeated schools with great possibilities.

Blackman fans and students can fill up the gym, They know what this game means, to get the season started right. Lavergne fans are sort of "laid back" but they can "come alive". So the prediction is the school who supports their team with the most fans will win. No doubt the game will be close. No doubt the Blackman fans will try to get the best seats. Let's see, the game starts at 6:30. The Battle of Rutherford? This one will be remembered all season as to who got the jump in standings.

Ok Phargis, are you on that boo boo again this year?? I know you are a regular poster but do you really care about which school has the most fan support or is that just your way of "throwing stones". If it's the latter, it doesn't work.... We at LaVergne really don't care how many fans may come from other school, AND as a matter of fact if they are concerned about having somewhere to sit, then they probably want to stay home & get play by play from your post on Coach T.

The "Blue Crew" will be ready to show the Lady Wolverine their support & it's going to be on & popping. :thumb: If you are nice I might tell you about it....LOL

  3. Time is now to bring it on,popping like popcorn. This is like going the final four. What you think jazzymon.I can see you sitting on the the other side saying come on,get it together. What's the word thunderbird.

    U crazy Basketballlady....the word's always thunderbird....LOL :thumb:

    Wonder what Bri thinks??

  4. Siegel is now either 11-1 or 12-1 depending if they played Liberty Tech. They keep rolling on and still remain a dark horse along with Smyrna who has about the same record. Oakland lost to Lipscomb amd is last place in preseason D7AAA with about a 9-3 record. Siegel plays Shelbyville 1-5-10. Blackman and Lavergne keep winning and undefeated and Riverdale has lost 2 but has played the toughest schedule. Jazzy Lady, BRi, BBLady, time is getting closer.

Yep, it appears alot of the teams are playing in post Xmas tournaments & are doing well BUT, next week oh boy, next week around this time, it's about to be on & popping....LaVergne plays Blackman on Friday @ LaVergne....can't wait!! :thumb:

Did you all go to the MTSU game tonite>

No, I didn't.....was in McNairy Co. watching our girls play in their Christmas tournament. I heard MTSU won. Good victory for them over an undefeated KY team.

  6. Lady Wolverines win there early morning match up against Davidson HS (AL) - final score 54-45. Per my daughter, she stated very tough ,physical battle, good game for them.

I don't have individual scoring today.....Glad to see the girls come away with a victory.

    Keep it going Lady Rines!!!

  7. LaVergne Lady Wolverines won their opening game in the Mattie T Blount Christmas Tournament against Baker HS.....final score was 64-41.

Lady Wolverines were lead by Jasmine Dale with 21, Kayla Hunt 13, Jasmine Brimm, 10, Stephanie Myers 8, LaQuinta Jefferson, 4 (good to see her back) Alex Swope, 2, Leah Foreman, 2, Easha King, 2 and

Aisha, 2. They will play again tomorrow at 9 am....not sure of the school.

    Way to go Lady Rines!!

  8. When I looked at the box score, it was obvious what was happening and yu were lucky the bench was good. Incidently, word is out that exceptional players zoned for Lavergne next year keep showing up. Next years freshman class may be the best ever. Lavergne is going to be good for years to come. Good Luck.

I know there are some good younger players in this area, but as always the issue will be if they come to LaVergne or decide to get a zone transfer as some have in the past and go to Smyrna. I have heard there might be one or two that might end up going to a private school. Who knows... if the group that's there now continue to work hard, they will be ok after the group of seniors leave.

  9. jazzy, when are you ging to get busy and play your varsity? I don't even recognize 3 of thoe players but they did play in earlier games. You are getting all of these schools fired up thinking they have played with you. They did show up and ashjan did have them playing. You have to give him credit for that. Maybe it will give him creditability to schedule another good team. His own fans don't give him that credit but you can give him references.[/quot

it was hotly contested as I figured it to be. Dale made tough 3's that were contested and no post can guard Baechle 1 on 1 and run the floor with her. When Lavergne gets their 2 injured players back that will give them some much needed depth. We didn't play over our head, We missed 14 FT's, had a 5 point lead in the first half. At the end, our freshmen and sophomores played like freshmen and sophomores and their seniors hit FT's and we didn't. Both teams played hard and it was the type of game they both needed. I only scout and work with the jv and freshmen so I don't deserve credit. I thank Lavergne for coming here to play us and I wish we could play them later, even though Jefferson will be back. Good luck to all.

Ok Phargis, that's what makes LaVergne, mysterious, you don't know who's going to show up!! I just know that I'm glad when they do. Steph had been contributing a lot & the points missed by her, were made up by other senior, Jasmine Brimm, who has been turning it on as of late.

I was glad the time for this game got moved up as if it was later, I would have missed it. Pretty good game, got there a little late in the 1st qrt but when I did, Steph was already on the bench with 2 fouls, not good for LaVergne, so we had to depend on 2 soph to step in and play who had not played very much. I'm really proud of our girls for coming away with a victory....they played thru some adversity and major foul issues but kept their composure for the most part and pulled it out. I think this type of game let's you know what your team need to continue to work on to get better. I would think both coaches like what they saw or didn't see. Didn't care that much for the officiating but it is what it is.

Baechle & Mosley are a good one/two punch for JPII, not sure of what conference they play in but should give other teams a good run for their money. Once again, way to go Lady Rines.

  10. Ok, I've read the last few posts & can say one cannot get hung up on win/losses at this time of the season. It only matters what happens at the end and players, coaches and fans have to remember that. Also a tough early season schedule isn't always a predictor who will make it to the finals. Look at what Hillsboro did last year, didn't really have a tough schedule but had the right players gelling together at the right time and ended up winning state. I think when teams start focusing on what other teams are doing, then they start losing focus on their goals.

I'm rooting for all 7AAA teams when they play out of district and hope they have a good showing because I know a lot of the girls and their parent and during the summer season we are a family because our girls play or have played together. Currently all the teams are competing and playing well but when it's all said and done, it's only going to matter what happens in district and regional play.

  11. You are correct and to average 75 points a game is vey good, Anything said or not said about any team is purely an oversight and should not be taken any way except for support of every team and school in Rutherford. I hope you realize posters sometimes just post with agendas unknown to any of us. There is more action in girls basketball in Rutherford on a continuing basis than most places this year although some places in WT is pretty hot. We look forward to seeing some games there this year and will drop by and say hello. I'm sure the "Jazzy Lady" will be well known. lavergne is on cruise control and is fixing to step on the gas pedel.

Okay....just wanting to know what other posters thought about their team's 1st week & half of play. It looks like everybody is about where they thought they would be. Phargis, have you seen any of the Rutherford county teams play so far? And LaVergne being on cruise control, I doubt it. The season only will get tougher & to think that's it's going to be a cakewalk would be crazy.

  12. Missy Brimm didn't look like she was limping at all the other day...maybe could she be back sooner than expected??? Any date for Q to start dressing out?

Also did Reese from the boy's team get injured against Franklin? If so, how bad is it? (or not bad)

I know Missy is ahead of schedule....but not sure if she will be back any sooner than February. She's a sophomore, so if I were her, would not rush it. As I posted earlier, still no definite time for Q to return. If the girls can continue to play well without her, it might be wise to give her another month or so and bring her back full stride when district play begins.

On the boys side, I did hear JuJu got hurt....broke a toe is what I heard. Not sure if that's accurate or not. I like Julian, he's a beast....can score & is also a good defender, not selfish at all.

Jazzy Lady, when was the ACL done? was it may or June? Don't know what you are worried with, you are averaging about 75 points. You want to score 100+ every night?

LOL....you are too funny, Phargis. I think Missy's surgery was in July, during team camps. I know there was a ACL forum last year. What's the average time of return to be somewhat back to normal after ACL surgery?

@Ashjan, what's your take on teams not wanting to play you? I think LaVergne ran in a similar problem this year and had trouble filling dates.

  13. What a good 1st week & a half to the start of the season.....I know RDMan stated he liked how his team looked, he thought they were very deep....what about others? I know it's kinda early but what do you like about your teams that you have seen so far? Any surprises?? I think I read where Phargis stated Smyrna is surprising some with an early victory over Wilson Central and a good showing against a strong Lawrence Co. team. My team, LaVergne, even though the competition has been light, have been putting up some good numbers, which has allowed for some of the other players to get some playing time, which can be good later in the season.

What do you think, let me hear your thoughts...

  15. What's the latest timeframe on Jefferson's return? They've been shooting the ball well in the early going. Has Dale signed to play college? She's been scoring a lot. You must be seeing a lot of zone with Myers inside.

Not sure of Quinta time frame...hopefully soon, we miss her.

Jasmine has signed w/Gardner-Webb University....she's a natural scorer, but really did not have to score as much in the past when you have a scoring threat like Quinta in the lineup......all the girls have stepped & contributed, with Quinta out, we are missing her almost 20 ppg.

Most high school play zone anyway, so not any more than normal.

We will see yall on Dec 5th....I'm expecting a good game.

I believe both teams look forward to playing a good team. We won't play zone unless Paige gets into foul trouble, which will be key as neither team is very deep on the bench. Hopefully Q gets back soon, even if it's against us as I don't want any kid to be hurt. Our cupcake schedule leading to this game won't help us but we're healthy. Myers will have trouble with Baechle away from the basket and you can't put any other starter on her. On the other hand Paige is a great post defender but will need help and I'm not sure where it will come from. We may lose, but you won't get to set shoot 3's all night like you have been. Our guards will have to handle pressure to be successful. I'm glad it's at our place as playing at Lavergne is tough. Good luck to all.

This will be a good game for both....haven't seen or know any of the JPII players. Is Paige a SR?? What's her height?? It sounds like JPII goes like Paige goes. Is that a good or bad thing? I do know we are more than just a 3 pt shooting team which is good. It's also good we are shooting the ball well, because it does open things up for Steph. We will wait and see who will win the post battle, just because I'm partial to LHS, I'm going to put my money on Steph.... :thumb:

  17. I think before Hillsboro plays Mt. Juliet, they will also get tested by Riverdale on tomorrow. I know the Tennessean stated losing Keisha was a "minor" set back but with her ability to play in or out & handle the ball, she is a MAJOR loss for this program. I know they still have Isabelle in the post but losing 3 starters from last year, I don't see them as tough without Keisha.

  18. so any updates? I think our girls play for the first time AT hillsboro on tues angone playing tournaments or anything

    Riverdaleman...

We played Clarksville NE on last night....unfortunately, I have class on Tuesday night & wasn't able to see the game. From what my daughter said, they had a rough 1st half just because everyone was so excited, but after halftime, they settled down & won by a substantial amount, 70-47 was the final score. Freshmen guard, Kayla stepped up & had an awesome game!! We play again on Friday against Cane Ridge & then next week in the Bridgestone Classic @ LaVergne...

OH NO that class better hurry up and end or you will be mising a lot of games

Ain't that the truth....I almost died in class Tuesday. Fortunately, my husband kept me updated.

Hey, how do you think yall will do against the reigning "state champions"???

  19. so any updates? I think our girls play for the first time AT hillsboro on tues angone playing tournaments or anything

  20. Coach Dean & staff will do the best they can....I have seen games where he has been outcoached & I think that's because he depended on the talent vs. actually coaching. I think he knows this year if he wants to make a successful run at state, he can't depend on talent alone. I believe he's going to have the girls better prepared on offense and defense, where they will be in the best possible position to be successful in every game. We have been apart of this program the last 4 years & it's been a growing process each year. I must admit I haven't always been happy with the coaching BUT, I am very confident in the coaching staff at LaVergne H.S & know they are getting the girls prepared for a very composed run at state.

  21. No offense intended but from what I've seen so far this year I would be focus on the district first.

Blah, blah, blah....there is always offense intended when you are trying to down a program.

Now, can they win, yes, they can!! Do they want to win it, yes they do!! It takes all the right tools for everything to come together in January/February to make that run at state. No more injuries!!

As I said before, this district is going to be tough, no easy game any given night, but I believe we are right there at the top with Riverdale & Blackman. In the play day this past weekend the younger girls stepped up & played well & without the services of LaQuinta, Steph & Missy our 6th player from last year, I liked what I saw. I think the bench will be much stronger than even I anticipated. Can't wait for the season to begin....it's going to be a good one!!
