1. QUOTE(montague1 @ Mar 30 2007 - 07:44 PM) 826426834Maryville has a winning tradition, it just carried over to basketball this year. I have to applaud a school that can do what they do in football and win a basketball championship also.

What made the difference for Maryville this year was two big transfers Douglas and Basile.Take them out and Maryville was a different team. Put them on any other team in the district and they go to state. Same thing with Bradley Central and Oglesby and Dodd transferring. We are not talking just little transfers either. We are talking D1 players and don't tell me that doesn't make a difference. Take Burnette and Douglas off the football team and what would you have next year? Maryville will be strong for another year in football and maybe basketball (losing Maples & Basile won't be good)but after that they better be looking for some other transfers.

  2. QUOTE(HB2021 @ Mar 27 2007 - 07:03 AM) 826423712SD is clearly the team to beat in district 4. They defeated Bearden 6 to 1 yesterday. Congrats to SD.

WB is the team to beat in 4AAA just wait and see who wins the district. SD does not have the hitting with Cody out

  3. QUOTE(kazam37 @ Mar 19 2007 - 06:15 AM) 826417242News to Maryville Fans........I was right! Mark Eldredge just lassoed you a Gold Ball. Now I'm sure your going to point out various moments in the game where he could have done this or that differently, but once you draw it up the kids still have to execute it. He coached a great set of overtimes! If you had said Maryville was the clear favorite to win the thing, someone would have locked you up in the nut house. He took a lesser club to the title game and then won the dang thang! Maryville Basketball is now officially ON THE MAP! Congrads, Mark and the team.

    You're old sidekick from O-town......Kaz? /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

Here are some stats for the game

Clarksville Cladwell shot 31 times including 6 threes attempts for only 26 points and all other players on the team only shot 41 times. Not exactly spreading it out.

Maryville Damron shot 31 times , Maples shot 11 times, Basile 12 times, Douglas 10 times with 17 points, Lambert 15 times and Click only 3 times with one big one for sure. Total shots taken by the team 47. Maples, Basile and Douglas combined shot only 33 times.

For some reason Maryville stopped getting the ball to Douglas in the last quarter and OT? The big guy is a player. Wonder how many points he would have had if he shot it 31 times? By my calculations it should have been 51 or more. Also you don't shoot threes with under a minute and a 5 point lead. Either kill the clock, look for an easy layup or get it to the big man for the high percentage shot. Play that way against WB, Farragut or Bearden next year and they will kill you.

  4. QUOTE(BIGFAN4525 @ Mar 1 2007 - 10:38 AM) 826394745You sound like someone that I know and may possibly ref with one day. You may know me better than you think you do.

Lets hope refs are not influenced by coaches or fans working them or paying them (don't laugh

  5. QUOTE("shake and bake @ Mar 1 2007 - 12:32 PM) 826394933Oglesby had 20 points against Soddy Daisy in the semis in the Region, but had a great passing game. Lots of assists and rebounds.

Kyle Groothuis had a really great game with his all time scoring record broken with 25 points.

Bradley Central is playing Red Bank tonight @ 7pm for the Region Championship.

Self promotion won't win Mr Basketball but shake and bake is good on "pork chops" It is obvious who you are

  6. Oh BosemanWBFan, you are such a riot.

Right Powell and Conners will make mincemeat of Maryville. I hear Bearden had Maryville by 15 at the half

and then fell apart. Powell won't fall apart. I hear they destroyed Karns who I think is much better than Maryville. Looks like Maryville will be traveling up North so get your bags packed boys. Your not as good as some people think you are /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> And wait til you face one of the big boys DB or SH. It won't be pretty and this aint football.

  7. QUOTE(ihavenofriendzz @ Feb 27 2007 - 12:01 AM) 826391164oh. well it wasnt me. i was chillin in a car listening to the game.

but the video might look like it was directed at Powell but as the person who did it. it was in no way meant to be directed at them. so now that thats over and done with..

i still cant believe Karns called us names.

Like I said Farraguts fans are the most out of control followed closely behind by Bearden. Must have something to do with being rich and from WestKnoxville

  8. QUOTE(ihavenofriendzz @ Feb 26 2007 - 11:44 PM) 826391122keep the thread about basketball.. we dont need another closed thread.

    some good matchups tomorrow eh?

Good advise for the trash talking Farragut fans who accused a WB player of purposely trying to take Kinney out.

Now you want to keep it about basketball?

Bearden as I said will beat Maryville easily on the court tonight. But they won't do it by trash talking like Farragut. You both accuse our fans of being out of control but you are some of the biggest trash talkers I have seen. I may go tonight just to hear Bearden and Farraguts trashtalking fans and to see Maryville get sent packing

    /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Karns will beat Powell without any trash talking just some good solid "blue chip" BBall. Karns fans are a class act even when they beat us.

  9. Bearden Maryville: Maryville will be hard presees to beat Blevins and his Bulldogs 3 times. Bearden can match up inside, guard play will be the deciding factor. I look for Bearden to have something and end the Rebels season.

Powell Karns: Powell is very inconsistent. They are great almost unbeatable one night and the next night the aren't so good. They were out of their heads vs Farragut Saturday and as a result blew the Admitials out of the water. But Farragut lays an egg every year come tourney time. If Karns sees man D they will win no doubt. But Powell will play zone. Karns will shoot them out of it and then pick them apart when they have to go man. Karns by 5.

    [/quote

I agree Bearden wins this one easily. Maryville won't come close this time. Blevins will figure a way out to beat the twin towers and their zone. Their guards don't and won't matter against the more athletic Bearden (Jenkins and Campbell). Look for (Simpson and Jenkins) to show the boys from Maryville how to play BBall and not FBall on the hard court!

Karns will also win easily over the inconsistent Powell. Karns knocked the best team off so why not go all the way...........they will unless Bearden does. Either way they may not like what they have to face next in Greeneville /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Look for Bearden and Karns and Karns to win in the championship game

  10. QUOTE(GovMan @ Feb 22 2007 - 10:13 AM) 826384291Can't argue with your logic "ihavenofriendz". And I know OR lost twice, BUT, just for me at least ... if I'm a coach (and I'm not) there are still 5-6 teams in your top 10 that I would rather take my chances at playing on any given night as opposed to playing Oak Ridge. Potential is a dangerous word and when you don't play up to it (i.e. Oak Ridge this past week) you often lose. But, if they are ON and playing their brand of basketball, Oak Ridge is as good as anyone is the area I think. We'll find out real quick, because their season could be over in a couple of days!!!

Yep I am afraid Maryvilles season will be over Saturday and WB just starting after Saturday night. Oak Ridge is the most dangerous team in the region. WB should handle Karns as the regions flip flopped.

  11. Nice whine on the refs.....Maryville didn't get the picky calls?...... :thumb: Not sure what game you were at and I'm sure you had your farragut colored glasses on but neither team was able to escape the ineptness of that group of refs. I thought they were going to foul both teams out. Maryville had a run early in the third where three fouls in a row were missed, all against Maryville. Then I witnessed a couple of "make-up" calls against Farragut. Seriously inconsistent from the refs.....but in all honesty that is how it has been most of the year.

This small older fellow from Jefferson County needs to retire from the whistle. I hear from a few other refs that he is considered the "gem" of the region by the head ref but from what I have witnesses his judgement is poor at best. Let me validate that statement by saying that he is poor for both teams....

Maybe he just struggles when he is at Maryville, and that's all I can speak to, but he has really struggled in the games I have witnessed him in the last couple of years.

A question to the Farragut fans......What's up with the parent/fan of Farragut that harrassed Basile all night from the stands? To go after a highschool senior as he did is rather classless IMO. Yes.....Basile is emotional and can be an easy target but going after a HS kid because he plays hard and with emotion is a little overboard for a parent.

The refs as a rule have been bad this year. They need to remain neutral. As far as the parent fan and Basile goes that is a sign of his ability and he should take it as a compliment. But adults need to act like adults. Puleo was a target all year because she played with emotion and more importantly they could not stop her on the court. The best players will always draw attention from somewhere....fans , coaches and other players.......

I predict WB will beat Karns and play for the championship of the regions. Mark it down.....

  12. Just want to add a note about the Farragut William Blount game; William Blount played like a bunch of thugs. I thought that it couldn't get any worse than Clinton, but it did. The submarine in the third quarter by a William Blount player to a Farragut player was about the dirtiest play I've seen in a while. Also, the refs did a horrible job officiating the game. You knew that you were in for a bad game when the ref can't throw the tip up right. It took him 3 times to do it.

WB as a team is not so bad (dirty) but the one player that undercut the Farragut kid has a history of playing dirty. This is not his first time he has tried to take a player out on a driving layup with an undercutn. He did the same to Tyler Maples during their last meeting and I was told he had done it earlier in the year. In the Maples event the WB coach dismissed it as a hustle play... :thumb: but obviously he was trying to take him out. Too bad the refs didn't toss him. It would have been justified IMO. This is the most dangerous and dirtiest ploy in basketball IYAM.

WB plays with Baumanns personality...hard nosed and in your face bball. That is the good side of things. They are just so competitive. You are right though about the undercutting..it has no place on the BBcourt.

  13. Even on the third thry he couldnt do it right but he let it go.. probably because he didnt want to screw it up again.

and yeah Farragut didnt get any calls at all the William Blount game.

and Maryville is hte home team for tonight because they are the hosts.

    What game were you watching?

WB got few calls and Farraguts coach was talking to the refs the whole game.

Watch tonight when Maryville gets more of the same. It wont be even as close as the WB/F game.

But really tonight doesn't matter as much as Monday night did. I look for WB to go the farthest in the region

behind Farragut who will go to sub state.

  14. I think Coach Baumann is the best at working the refs. Number 2 is Farraguts coach and number 3 is Blevins from Bearden. Watch one of their games and those guys never sit down. They are constantly talking and most of the time telling the refs what and how to call the game. Baumann outclassed Farraguts coach at home last week in the head to head competition. I would love to hear a mic of the whole game on any of those guys. Other coaches could learn alot by listening to any of those guys working the refs. Moral of the story is you snooze you lose.

  15. QUOTE("shake and bake" @ Feb 5 2007 - 01:25 AM) 826358792

Oglesby for Mr. Basketball AAA this year. He was invited to the NBPA top 100 camp, Nike and Adidas camp. Last year he led his team to victory or put them into over time no less that 8 times. and FYI, it doesn't matter how tall your big man is if they can't catch the ball, or mostly sits om the bench in foul trouble. This is getting better by the way. We will be ready for State! Seen Mo Miller, also an outstanding player,I see him as #2, Then Wiggins as #3. Oglesby also broke the scoring record at Bradley Central that has been standin sice 1962 ( 42 years ). Scored 57 points that night and won against Red bank by 4 points. Very good student and great role model for the younger kids coming up. He always have time for people and gives everyone he talkes to his full attention. And I can pretty much garantee that he is the hardest working baller in Tn. He is relentless.

Sounds like you guys like yourself an awful lot. I couldn't write that stuff about myself but I can write about another player who is "blue collar". He may not play AAU or the SPCA and DBA and the BSBA and he may not receive the same hype from himself. My nominie is Drew Houser

  16. At least Duncan is not afraid to feature his star player (Wiggins). I know some coaches are "jealous" of their star players and intentionally hold them back. They seem to be trying to say the real reason we win is because I am a great coach not because we have the best player or players. Where have all the great coaches gone? To Greeneville? Duncan is too wise to be jealous of his players and knows how to motivate the least of them! Plus he is not into playing politics . Integrity is the key. Players respect that in a coach and respond accordingly. No wonder some teams fall apart with all the talent (players) in the world.

How does Wiggins compare to Omar? Any D1 offers? Rumor had it Duncan applied for the Maryville position last year. Wonder why if that is true they didn't jump on him? Go thing for the other 4AAA teams that they didn't :P

  18. Jimmy j d miss,

I don't think you can motivate any high school player by berating him in front of the entire crowd. In our case, most are brained washed by a guy masquerading as a coach. The snake oil salesman himself has convinced most that allowing him to berate a student athlete before a large crowd that he really cares for them - hogwash! I have no problem with discipline, but discipline with respect. I will never agree that just because a man wears his Sunday suit to a game that he has the right to psychologically abuse a student athlete before a crowd and his peers. Think about this - a man that has never played the game , can only teach drivers education and has gym degree, you would allow him to determine who he can motivate with insults before a crowded gym? Giving a guy like this a license to be a psychologist over a young person in any situation (class room included) is insanity. What is insidious about this is that I have seen a coach psychologically rape a player, destroying his confidence, so he can promote other less deserving players. High School basketball is an odd duck in a way because you have many good coaches that truly care about the game and players. They obviously don't do it for the money, but the love of the game. But on the other hand because of the pay, some guys weasel there way in on "smoke and mirrors" and can do some real damage. You know the old saying "what comes around, goes around", in this is case, it really came around in a sad way. The Jimmy I know was truly a good ball player with a huge amount of heart and a bsolutely loved the game. Because of the resources available to him, I will always wonder if he ever reached his peak as a player.

Respect is a two way street. Some coaches earn it and deserve it and others don't.

Coaches that humiliate their players are poor examples. One school recently had a coach removed for foul language directed at a player. How many more should be removed for their psychological attacks as mentioned above? In most cases it won't happen because the AD's are manipulated by the same people that control the coaches.

  19. Halls had their whole team at Oak Ridge's fall league and squeeked out a win against the Wildcats. Oak Ridge was missing 2-3 starters and a lot of bench players. Oak Ridge should win that league and Halls is definately not as good as Farragut or Maryville.

Maryville is not that good this year and they won't have much until football is over. As usual it will take them over half the season to gel, Farragut should be tough and don't count out William Blount.
