I took a little (2 year) hiatus. I thought a playoff game between the yellow tails and commanders would be a good time to return. I'll be on here talking smack after the game when FCS wins. I don't have a humble bone in my body. And I'll be blaming the refs if we lose. 8-)

  8. A guy in a bar leans over to the guy next to him and says, "Wanna hear a good Alabama joke?"

The guy next to him replies, "Well before you tell that joke, you should know something. I'm 6' tall, 200 lbs., and I am an Alabama grad. The guy sitting next to me is 6' 2" tall, weighs 225, and he's an Alabama grad. And the fella next to him is 6' 5" tall, weighs 250, and he's an Alabama grad. Now, you still wanna tell that joke?"

  10. QUOTE(StanTrott @ Jun 14 2007 - 09:34 PM) 826475270It is an apples to organges argument.

EXACTLY my point when comparing all schools - public and private. All schools are different. They all have their distinct advantages and disadvantages. We all know the reason why folks dislike privates. /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

  11. QUOTE(Antwan @ Jun 14 2007 - 09:20 PM) 826475254Liberty will be in AAA in basketball and 4a in football the next classification period. They have 1007 students. I don't know about you...but I think that's pretty big.

They are AA now and have been for the last few years ... when they were waxing ecstatic on everyone. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Let's not play the "well, they aren't that small game". They are officially AA now and have been.

  12. QUOTE(MPHSTIGERS87 @ Jun 14 2007 - 09:37 AM) 826474950Ahh come on, whoooow is me, the privates have it so bad. Sell that to someone else. The last I looked this a forum to give "opinions" and I am going to see to it that I do.

    Opinions or slander ... there is a fine line there. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

  13. QUOTE(jvaughan @ Jun 14 2007 - 06:02 PM) 826475133Well that really doesn't have to do with anything in my arguement since the term "small school" depends on what school you compare it to. Clarksburg and Big Sandy would say no they are not small. Antioch and McGavok would say yes they are small.

It has everything to do with your argument. The T$$AA considers them to be small schools according to their sports classifications. Do you notice a trend with their athletic programs? Guess what - they don't have "zones"! Hmmm ... I wonder why you aren't jumping on them? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

  14. QUOTE(jvaughan @ Jun 13 2007 - 06:05 PM) 826474730It's not a matter of how much money your school can raise, your students average household income, who is coaching, how hard your kids work, or anything else you want to throw out there. The only thing that matters here is that a private school can get any student that they want to come to there school. How can it be fair if you have an unlimited amount of students to draw from and a small single A school only has 2500. It is the same principle with a 1A school and a 3A school. The reason large public Schools in Memphis like Raleigh Egypt, and Hamilton are seperated from playing against small schools like Scotts Hill, and Clarksburg has nothing to with money, coaches, hard work, or anything else you want to name. It has only to do with the number of students that are zoned to your school.

I personally do not care either way if there was to be a public/private split. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't. You keep playing no matter what. But I find it hard to find anytthing fair with the arguement that I have above

One quick question: would you consider Alcoa and Liberty in Jackson small schools?

  15. QUOTE(FCSprideatUT @ Jun 13 2007 - 12:27 AM) 826474495Well lets see. If a student wishes to attend Friendship Christian school then they must first take a test to see if the get in. This test includes a 40 yard dash, Squat, Bench Press, Catching Ability, Throwing ablity. The test was basically stolen from the NFL combine.

If they do get in to FCS, their reward is to pay a nice fee of a few thousand dollars a year. In the case of students who have already played a sport at a previous school, they must sit out the same number of games they played at their old school (up to a year). A few football examples would be Jon Miller (QB), Brant Alsup (DB/LB) and Beau Baker (K). Jon had attended FCS since second grade, left in 5th grade i believe, and returned his sophmore year (sat the pine the entire year wearing Blue jeans and a green jersey). Alsup got the same color jersey to wear with his blue jeans as he had to sit the pine for a year as well.

So the way i look at it, if Mt. Pleasant has a kid, say a star linebacker (ju-ju) who played at his old high school and is comming in and able to imediately play at his new high school that is an advantage that Mt. Pleasant has over a private. After all, if he came to FCS, TCA, JCS, or Zion Christian he would have been rewarded with a nice bill and a piece of the pine specifically for him. Not a free trip through school and a starting position.

Even if FCS did recruit players, they wouldn't kick in until next season because if a single one plays then FCS instantly forfeits.

You forgot to add one more part to the private transfer rule. Hypothetically speaking, a transfer can not move from say Mt. Juliet to Lebanon with a bonafide change of address and participate in a sport at FCS (if there was prior participation). There is a radius rule. Even with a change of address, if there are current students with living within that area the student is not considered to have a change of address under T$$AA rules. They would have to move further out than any other student.

  16. QUOTE(MPHSTIGERS87 @ Jun 12 2007 - 08:24 AM) 826474160SSSSHHHH. Thats the "thing" that I told you about ignoring. You think Baldcoach is bad, this guy attacked my handicap son. I said I wasnt going to refer to him again, but I wanted to give you a heads up.

    Now that's a blatant lie. But I don't expect less considering the source. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

  17. QUOTE(MPHSTIGERS87 @ Jun 12 2007 - 08:20 AM) 826474157She moved. Its legal. If the family can afford to do that then good for them. I mean families can afford to drop their kids out of a public school and pay outrages amounts of money to a private, why cant a public player do the same to transfer to another public school.

If this were a private, would your comments be different? She didn't transfer to Trousdale or Macon Co - both logistically as easy as Jackson Co.

It makes you wonder if an arrangement has been worked out for a place to live. A place of work for her parents. Etc. Wouldn't that be the argument if this was say Marco Daily and the school was Ezell Harding?

    QUOTE(Antwan @ Jun 12 2007 - 08:29 AM) 826474163Gee...if she wanted more exposure...she should have come here. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Isn't it still illegal to transfer for athletic purposes? Her mother admitted to

that in the article. Has that clause been removed? Just wondering.

I don't like to see this kind of thing...but it does happen all the time. I really hope the young lady does well whereever she plays.

I know I wouldn't want to get lost in the shadow of the soon to be, multiple Miss Basketball winner. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

  18. QUOTE(MPHSTIGERS87 @ Jun 12 2007 - 08:16 AM) 826474156FCS, I have asked around and I think I have this straight. Lets say an 8th grader in a different middle school (columbia) wants to attend MP they can with permission from the board of education. They have to be approved first. They are now legally able to play their freshman year. If a freshman from Spring Hill or Columbia wants to play for MP and keep there same home address, they have to sit out a years time before they are able to play in a sport. However if they move into the MP zone and can validate a real change of address they are legally able to play immediatly. So this Ju-Ju kid you keep bring up isnt a transfer that has to sit out a year, his family actually moved into MP. I guess my question is how do privates work out there transfers?

Actually this is wrong ... I just called the Maury Co. schools office. Any student in the county can file for a variance to attend any high school at any time with a valid reason. That variance is heard by the school board for approval. Any good, valid reason works per the nice lady I spoke to ... most often that there is a class offered at one school that is not offered at another. You don't have to live within the county either. You can pay a fee to attend the schools in county. She sited Spring Hill as the best example due to the proximity to the county line and the rest of Spring Hill proper located in Williamson Co.

After that if it is a transfer of an athlete without a change of address, then T$$AA rules kick in. No valid change of address (or a more complicated petition to the TSSAA) then no play for one calendar year from date of last participation from preceding school. Transfers to privates must follow this same rule. I can name at least 4 different kids that were big contributors to the football and baseball teams at FCS that sat out entire years at FCS after their transfers. They paid the price.

  19. QUOTE(BackinTN @ Jun 12 2007 - 07:43 AM) 826474130Baldcoach,

I didnt take cheap shots. I spoke from experience. You assumed I meant all, and your assumption lead you to call me a liar, and that lead me to jump all over you and put you in your place. You have proven that you cant man up and apologize. I am a man of my word and have no need or desire to lie. If I have hurt your delicate sensitivites, then I apologize, as I have before. Are you always this sensitive and argumentative? To go back and count insults shows exactly what I have said about you and your attitude is true. Whine, blame, point fingers, everything to take the focus off. You have tried to speak for all involved in privates and have shown the exact attitude that causes the problem to not be fixed. You attitude shows exactly why you are an assistant at a tiny private where your mother got you hired. You set yourself up to be the indignant spokeman of all privates and you have done a poor jpb. Nice representative. There you go, you can count up the insults and do with them what you want.

Do I need to start a thread with voting buttons? I bet this userid and MPHSKitties is one of the same person.

  20. QUOTE(MPHSTIGERS87 @ Jun 11 2007 - 08:12 PM) 826473997I asked around and he actually moved to Mt. Pleasant. He doesnt drive back and forth to Columbia or out MP's zone. The last I looked if you live in Mt. Pleasant you are suppose to go to school there. Unless a private tries to come get ya.

We've had this discussion ... there are definitely out of county students at MP.
