  1. Quad 3 is currently:

    1. Pearl Cohn (6th)
    2. Lexington (9th)
    3. White House (13th)
    4. Greenbrier (15th)
    5. Liberty Magnet (25th)
    6. Creekwood (27th)
    7. Chester County (31st)
    8. Montgomery Central (32nd)

Sycamore is currently 42nd and out of the playoffs.

IMO, If Creekwood ends up with four wins, Montgomery Central will only end up with two wins which will definitely drop MC and will likely drop Creekwood due to the number of teams on their schedule with 50% or more wins.

If Montgomery Central sneaks in there and beats Creekwood, IMO they both end up with 3 wins and they are both out.

I don't know that much about the other teams, but it looks to me like:

    Chester has a chance to stay in with (5) wins;

If Liberty Tech only wins one more, they are likely to stay in with four wins because they will have played (9) teams with 50% or more wins.

So it looks to me like there are two of these spots that will very likely be up for the taking!

  2. I heard about that on FB.  Sorry to hear about it and hope he has a speedy recovery.  Injuries are tough on a football team.

Still a lot of football to be played and most are head to head district contests that affect the playoff births.

Not to belabor the point too much, but just for my own edification, wasn't the top team from each classification in addition to the district champion and runner up the vehicle for the 3 win teams to get in?  That was one of the things they tweaked.  Not impossible, but pretty tough to have 3 district wins and finish in the top 2 unless it's a 4 or 5 team district.  The easiest way to the playoffs is number of W's.

    1.  The first way into the playoffs is to finish 1st or 2nd in your district. (if #1 or #2 are under disciplinary action and are ineligible the other teams move up accordingly.

    2.  The second criteria is the number of wins.

    3.  The third is the team who plays the greatest number of team who win 50 percent or more of their games.

    4.  The fourth is the team who has the greatest number of victories over teams winning 50 percent or more of their games.

And so on and so forth..............

So, if you had 3 wins and in third place in your district and #1 or #2 were ineligible you could get in.  But, you know what they say about "if".......

  3. Whoa! Didn't expect this.

You and no one else.  The Cubs played a great game with a lot of heart and intensity.  I do hope that Sycamore is done with surprises.  On the third play of the game when #22 Baker went down it was bad.  He planted to cut and his femur snapped.  Not fractured, but, completely broken into,  For the next 25 to 30 minutes the Sycamore boys had to listen and watch him in agonizing pain while they prepared him for transport.  After this, they were done.  I would never take anything away from the Cubs, as I said they played great, but, I'm not sure that the War Eagles could have beaten anyone on Friday.  #22 has gone through successful surgery, is in good spirits, and is on his way to a long recovery.

  4. I can't believe these teams are where they are from a won/loss record. I knew CC would be hard presses to repeat what they did last year, but what's up with the record? And Sycamore, what's going on here? If I am correct they have a really good transfer from Goodpasture I believe, is he playing? Why did he leave? Does Sycamore have an injury issue this year?

No injury issue.  They lost most of the line, but, have had pretty good kids step up, although they are a little undersized.  With the sophomore transfer, they have as good or better set of skilled players than they have had in a while.  They have played well for four and a half of the five games.

The first loss to a very good Trousdale County team came in double OT (after a last minute regulation extra point was blocked).

The second loss was to a good Westmoreland team in OT after they missed an extra point, a FG from the eight yd line and a FG from the 30 yd line in regulation.

The third loss to White House in regulation came from a very close game that Sycamore could not capitalize and had some bad breaks (also missed a 36 yd FG in the last few minutes to send to OT).

The fourth game with Smyrna was tied at 14 at the half.  After that, Sycamore was out of gas and Smyrna was just too much.

The team has very good coaching and great senior leadership.  I look forward to the second half of the season.  These guys are down, but, definitely not out.............

  5. One thing they could do is not make W's the end all.  There are computer rankings that are pretty dang accurate by the end of the season that tells you where everybody ranks and it has to do with strength of opponent's opponents.  TSSAA doesn't want to open that can of worms or put any subjectiveness into it.

The bottom line is there's not a good way.  In the old days teams with 2 or 3 wins got in regularly because the region was weak and 5th and 6th place teams in stronger regions were left out.  Still, if the goal is to make it to the playoffs you have to figure out the equation that helps your team recognize that goal.

So I guess the only answer is for either team to just go ahead and win out...........                      One game at a time, right?

  6. Sycamore is the best 1-4 team in the state.  Three of those four losses know that they played a very good team and Smyrna knew it for the first half until the 6A depth came out and it was just too much.... (of everything).  They will be ready Friday night and will show up with the same intensity that they have played each game so far this season.  Sycamore takes the first step in their long journey and wins this game.

  7. Sycamore comes into this game 1 - 3.  Those 3 losses all came from teams that are ranked in the top 100 in the state (one in the top 50).  They lost by a total of 10 points for all three games; one in regulation due to a missed field goal(that would have put them in OT, one in OT, and one in double OT.  These guys are tough and they don't quit.  It's time for "David" to win one.  I'm sure that I am in the minority (that is me, 5 or 6 coaches, and a hand full of players), but, that is why they play the game and I like those odds.  Don't you just love Friday nights.  SYCAMORE WINS A CLOSE ONE!

  8. Good luck sycamore! Y'all have played in some barn burners it seems this year. That D has played pretty tough.

Thanks, We love great football and we have had our share of hard nosed football so far and I don't see it letting up.  We are certainly. getting our money's worth this year.  The amazing thing to me is that the kids never seem to get down.  Great senior leadership and great coaches.

  9. Harpeth got a win against NCS handed to them due to the fact that NCS played an in eligible player. Harpeth is now 3-0 on the season according to the record books. They could get to 4-0 this week with a win over ERHS.

I understand that they win it on a rules violation, but, it's hard to believe that one player creates the difference that was shown on the field against NCS.  I feel bad for the rest of NCS's players.

So, Harpeth could very well be 5 - 0 when they get into the meat of their district schedule...........

  10. D-line and blitzing scheme seemed a bit more on target.  Overall, it seemed that Sycamore had a much better game against TC and still came up short. They didn't have the multiple, multiple penalties as they did against Westmoreland.

IMO a mistake free game would result in a  TC win, but, that is why they play the game (who plays mistake free at their peak every game)

But it should go without saying, that, IMO a play or two either way neither game should have went to OT and Sycamore wins both, but, that is why we play the game.

  11. Just curious as to how sycamore fans would compare Westmoreland with Trousdale county since you've seen both?
