  1. Here is just one example using just one of DB's players: Thursday night Chris Sensabaugh (possibly the best running back in upper east tn.) went out with a injury at the beginning of the 2nd quarter. In comes his backup, Justin Sylvester and runs for 167yrds and 4 touchdowns in 3 quarters of play. Science Hill doesn't have a athlete on their team that is better than Sylvester, our backup tailback. Get the picture?

That's a mouthful but I'm not sure I would take Sylvester over Kinley. Kinley has the mean streak that's needed in football. Not taking anything from Sylvester just think they are very comparable with Kinley being just as much as an athlete and maybe more of a football player but my view is slanted.

  2. Yup I'm back....I've been waiting to see the Toppers before I commented on them and after last night I want to believe that the program is heading in the right direction after what I saw last night. Looks like this sophmore class is the right mix with the Senior class while there are juniors who will be mad at their playing time in the future, will it be the near future. Ryan Mitchell is gonna be a force once Norris develops enough at qb so that Isacc can be moved to running back where he needs to be so that he can get the ball in more creative opportunities. Mitchell needs to be on the field- he displayed a second gear that I haven't seen in a Hilltopper uniform since 2005 when there was alot of speed on the field. Anyone that saw the kickoff return knows exactly what I mean. He looks good at rb but put him on the outside this year and Larry on the other side and fill in the slots and you can be scary. With Isacc at rb with Armando Canepa and you have an impressive running game. The defense played outstanding but I personally hate the technique of cornerbacks playing with ther backs to the ball on presnaps. They have alot of talent and the future looks bright but they have alot of kids that are still learning to play the game..I saw a lot of scared playing by some of the wideouts when it came time to make contact. I was impressed with what i saw on the field and I went to the game thinking that this would be the only game I would go watch this season. I will definitly be back.

South was impressive but there has definitly been a huge drop that Fletcher did more to make up for in this game. I love to watch that kid play. He runs the ball with authority and has deceptive speed. He should be their workhorse. It was different watching this game because South was trying to do the things that they have been doing (especially in the air) and the results that I was expecting never materialized. Several batted balls, a few dropped passes didn't help an impressive debut by Davenport but reports of his greatness has been greatly exaggerateed. I thought Phillips was a D-1 athlete but not a qb and I hope I'm proven wrong butI know Davenport is not a D-1 qb like he has been reported to be. He is a very fine qb and would help any team in the area outside of D-B and maybe TN High, who I think ,have the qbs that they need. From what I've seen last year and this year those may be the 3 best signal callers in the area with Crawford being the one I would want. South is such a well coached team and does everything excellent fundamentally which allows them to get the most of their players. They play hard and have kids that seem to love contact. Very well played game, I kept waiting for them to make the plays to break the game open but the reason for that is now residing in Madison.

I was impressed with Science Hill's resilince and they answered almost everytime they needed to and the kids have a great enthusiasim. Hopefully success will come soon to give them shot in the arm. The game calling was effective and kept the defense fresh even though it did become reptitive on the offense side but you dance with who you brought. I can't say how impressed I was because I was fearing the worst but now am more open to believe that they are heading in the right direction. The losing streak is 7...that's the bottom line.

ps- Bud everyone has more talent than South and DB after south beats them according to some...DB is loaded this year and everyone in this area is going to be hard pressed to stay within 14 all season.

  3. I believe that topvol has called out Sharpe a couple of times by name. Am i right or wrong? I was wrong for doing that i should have just said the QB. I am truly sorry topvol for that.

/roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> have to invent new names to hid your identity...your a joke, i'm not hard to find, you know who I am.....if your that tore up about it do what you have to do....

  4. The game was very disappointing, the defense deserved a better showing from the offense. The turnovers were killers. I don't know what the qb was seeing on any of them and he had the worse game I have ever seen him play. He was pressing and didnt' do anything to help his team get in a positioin to win this game. The amazing stat I saw was that despite the fact that DB was hardly on the field in fourth quarter they still had about 20 more offensive plays for the game. Sensabuagh is the real deal at tailback and Sylvester came in and stepped up when needed. I think the Topper defense played well enough to win but another game of no offensive support. Good luck in the next round.

  5. In spite of all the problems on the Hill and many shots across the bow at coach Smith including 1 or 2 by me. This is the first time that I am aware of a young Topper being called out by name for his play. Almost all other posts have had nothing but good about individual Toppers by name or if a comment is in a negative vain, true or not, it was made generically without name. As a former Topper, you can do better than that when one the best posters on here is connected to the young man and has shown nothing but class inregard to his son's team mates and coaches.

Just another old Topper who was part of a team and FB program that beat DB 3 out the four years he was in HS.

Thanks for the kind words but I know that I have ruffled some feathers as tact is not one of my strongest strengths. I'm not one to hide anything but I have not said anything on here that I haven't not told to the face of the involved parties. I've tried not to single out kids unless it's positive because regardless the kids are just working with what they are given. I love all these kids and wanted them to enjoy the feeling of being apart of special and I hope that I haven't done/posted anything to take away from what may be the last season of football for the majority of them. while I think that there are a few kids that may have attitude and work ethic problems, I don't believe it to be as rampant as some try to make it seem. I believe most of the attitude problems come from the ones who have been given their status instead of earning it. I believe that this football program will be better when the money that it takes to run it is seperated from the identities from those that give it. I know that Coach Smith cares for these kids and that's a step in the right direction. Once the kids (parents) start believing that the reason they play the games is to win, it will make his job alot easier.

  6. No i am not who you think i am. I came at you because you came at Sharpe when he was not playing good or so you thought he wasn't. I am a TOPPER. I played at Science Hill 92-94. I played for coach Sharpe and i like his son.

The biggest problem I've had with greg sharp is that he gets to transfer his kid every year without precussions, is it because he was a coach? I don't know and I know it wasn't fair to any of the kids and that most didn't believe that he was there for them. Anything I said about greg sharp had to do with my personal dealings with him and/or my personal knowledge of the situation. He may have been a good coach to you but he's only been an overbearing selfish parent who is shopping his kid around and for what? I could have been putting up film on youtube to be suporting why I didn't think the team's chances of winning should be put on his arm when there were more capable athletes on the team other than the qb position. There wasn't a better stable of backs in the area period.

  7. I agree Hill can run the ball and catch but in Smith's scheme he is not very good at QB ,but he is all with had left. I am not who you think i am. Just a old topper who beat DB twice.

You are who I thought you were or you would not have came at me with your post. I would have loved to see anyone do the job this year but it didn't look like there was anyone that could be the qb that Coach Smith needed to run this offense or have all the receivers that were needed but the games had to be played. I know what the game means to Tomas and he left everything he had on the field in every game he played and I could start naming some of the ones that I believed that didn't but I'm not gonna start calling out kids just because you have some problem with me trying to help my son get his goals accomplished. Nothing I wouldn't do for any kid that asked me to. Didn't hear any comments about the other kids videos I've put up or you saying anything about any other game played this year when a kid didn't play up to par so your exactly the person that I think you are.

  8. Where is topvol at? Is he going to put the 3 picks on you tube. The QB play friday night was terrible. I agree we should have gave the ball to Soloman just to get it out of Hill's hands.

    [/quote

HaHaHa.....sounds like someone needs a hug. You want your highlights up? No question that the three picks didn't help and especially the two that went back for six. They are called highights for a reason and no one forced you to look at them. Don't think I've ever even told anyone to go look at them. Qb play wasn't good not making excuses but I don't think there was ever any rythm to the offense with direct snaps to the running back for 14 straight plays and then bring in the qb to throw on 3rd down but then that would be making excuses. I know that there wasn't anyone hurting more because of the last two games. You know who I am and you wanna make up a new name and attack us. LOL /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> My point is Solomon should have been the focal point of the offense all season.

  9. FYI to the Topper fans

There is a traffic problem with an overturned tracotr trailor on I-81 at the I-26/I-81 interchange. Radio says both directions of traffic flow on I-81 are stopped and I have even heard that I-26 West bound is snarled. If you are coming to the game you may want to leave early and/or find an alternate route.

The problem is there is really no alternate route to kingsport from JC.

  10. Comp,

DANG IT! Why can't somebody play on a Thursday! It's 4:15 pm and I honestly don't know whether I am heading to J Fred to see Gilligan and the SS Topper get tossed or head to Death Valley to see D vs O. I may flip a coin around 6 o'clock. Sure as the world turns, I'll wish I had went to the "other" game, which ever I choose. Maybe I'll just avoid the decision and go to North or Volunteer. Well, probably not. I'll let you know later what I decided. I do think DB will put it on Science Hill tonight. Coach G may even allow the score to get into that magic "second half running clock mode". But, I have yet to see TN High this year, so I am leaning that direction.

By the way comp, who the huge kid that transfered in? I assume he will not be contributing anything this year? Understand he's a sophomore.

Cap, comp's boy is also a Junior.

Cap and comp, I'm not gonna make a score predication on this game. I have my opinions, but who really knows. It is true that Chuck Norris wears Curt pajamas, but I do think South is a much better "team" than many give them credit for. I think they will be fine next year when Curt leaves.

I think the current South team could be better if players were moved around a bit and great talent didn't get left on the bench. I also agree with you comp, Fletcher needs to be in the game at LB. He disrupts things when he's on the field. The three in the middle should be #44, Garvin, and Fletcher. (Really cool that #44 will be wearing #30 tonight by the way. Made the hair on my neck stand up when I read about it in Tricitiessports.) Then move little Phillps to Right DE and teach him to contain better than the GreenEville game. Spell the line more - mark my words, you're gonna wish you had once the playoffs start. South's ace up the sleeve tonight may be a healthy Michael Acero. With all that said, this team has the potential and talent to certainly get to Maryville this season. Then, who knows.

I think Stubbs could be guilty like Carter of leaving some talent on the bench. I think Taylor Harmon, given a real chance, should be the top QB in NET next season, with Jeffers being #2. Not sure where you put Canty, but you find an athlete a spot. Can't remember the sophomore RB, or if I have seen him play. Sounds like he's a stud as well.

    Friday Night Lights!!! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

If it makes it any easier on your decision making the DB-Sh game will be the game of the week on Charter Media.

  11. Tn High has the defense and offense to win this game. Will they, that's what we will find out. Since the Greeneville game, South has been on a mission to win the Mr. Football award for Phillips. They have rolled over inferior competition but tonight they will meet up with a team tha can smack them in their mouths right back. This will be a good game to get both teams ready for the playoffs.

The Vikings assigment is not hard to figure out. Make Phillips pass to beat you but keep everything in front of you. The hard part will be to execute it. If Phillips is able to break containment and starts running north annd south then it will be hard for the safeties to stay home and that's when the game will break up. If the Viking Defense is able to make him run east and west and dump the ball off they have a chance because their running game will dictate the south defense by picking up first downs and running the clock. Phillips arm surprises you during the game because no one else in this area can throw it the way he can. The only mistakes he makes throwing the ball is when you can get him pressured into making bad decisions, which is easier said then done. I believe that Tn High's defense is good enough to do that but will they?

    TN High in the upset.

  12. This is a tough one because I really don't know what to expect from the Science Hill offense in the way of play calling. From what info I do have and reading the papers the last couple of days, I'm scared that we will see the same play calling from the Bearden game when the game plan was to shorten the game by trying to run the ball and that wasn't succesful at all. I know the kids thought they had be give up on in that game and this is the wrong game for them to be feeling that way because I know that the coaches at db have felt insulted by comments ( that were taken way out of context) by Coach Smith. I believe that if the coaches have confidence in the players and call the game within the system that it will give the Hilltoppers a boost of enthusiasm and let them leave it out on the field. I know that db has a good defense and will try to confuse the Topper offense with blitzes, stunts and whatever else they can think up but there are some playmakers on the offense that can make you pay from anywhere on the field. I know this group feels like it has something to prove and want to go out showing people what could have been. I really believe that db's offense plays into the strength of Science Hill's defense. I believe that Sensabaugh to be a beast but this defense can really get to the ball when they know where the ball is, the veer and option have given the defense the toughest times in the losing streak. Tn High, Jeff Co, Campbell Co and Karns it was there offense and they never had to get out of it because they never got too far behind where they needed to so if the defense can get an assist from the offense so that they can force db to throw then it's a whole new game. I haven't heard too much about db running from anything but the I-formation. Misdirection has given teams the opportunity to get outside and have this defense thinking too much. I'm not sure that this will be the case tonight. I would be really surprised to not see the defense play really well tonight. I believe that if they can force db into throwing then it will be a step in the right direction for the Toppers to stay in the game. This one boils down to the psyche of the kids...if the majority can't get up for this game and have quit, then it will be long bus ride home tonight. If they come out fighting and follow the lead of the senior leadership then it's gonna be a succesful tonight regardless of the scoreboard. If the Toppers come to win on offense, they win by 4......If the Toppers are playing to keep it close and run the clock out, they wont get within 10.

    /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" concern?

of the visitors side, not the concenssion stands....

  13. The DB players have been watching a lot of film, and the coaches are pulling out every press clipping, video clip and sound bite they can find of SH coaches, parents, and players talking about how their number 1 purpose in life is to beat DB. I think our boys will respond with pride and throw it all back in their faces this Friday. They have suffered too much embarrassment this season to let SH come in and win this game without a huge fight.

You wouldn't think that they would have to try so hard to motivate them.......hope it leaves the players tight and stressed. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  14. To 'Topper fans, the kids in Kingsport are not taking this game lightly. This is the first time in years I've seen a Dobyns-Bennett squad take the one game at a time approach. I love it. This may be one of the best team teams in recent memory (sure, less talent, but work together tremendously). I must say, if Karns and Campbell Co. can beat you, let alone stay in the game with you, there are issues. With respect to topvol98, I'll leave it at that. Hungry or not, the tribe will be on the warpath Friday night.

plowboy2, what will it take for Ring (#7, SR) to prove himself to you? Throw balls through a moving hoola-hoop from various distances? He is not Duran Ferguson, Brent Mears, or Scott Butler.

Next year, I agree with Tribefb and ArtVandalay that Sensabaugh (#32, FR) will be the tailback, Lawson (#45, JR) the fullback, and Sylvester (#2, JR) in the slot. Heck, who knows what the offense will be next year, very well could be an option style with Crawford (#10, JR) at quarterback.

I believe that kids in both camps are taking the game very seriously. There are alot of kids at Science Hill who knows that this may be their last time ever playing football and this season has left them disappointing so this game is an opportunity to be remembered for more than Scott Smith's first team.

  15. Throwing the ball, or better said catching the ball has made the offense effective (dropped some passes in early games that might have made for different outcomes, but passing game is good right now)...very efficient passing game...offensive line has done a very good job in pass protection and run blocking...able to rotate 7 or 8 players on the offensive line without a dropoff...Dukart the leading receiver yards wise, Crawford the leader receptions wise...defense will run the 3-3-5 D-B has for a few years, and blitz out of it as D-B has for years...will also deploy a 4 man front in certain situations and blitz from that...defense covers the field pretty well...

Why hasn't the FG kicker been used more as of late?...I understand the Hill has gone for it a couple of times when in FG range?(yes, somehow that is a question)...what was or is Mancuso's injury?...what about Larry is he still contributing?...whom is handling punt and kickoff returns?...(sorry, I messed up on spelling of Kinley)

    Thanks

    Roll Tribe Roll

All my post are my opnion and that's all i have to offer. I'm not sure of why more field goals haven't been attempted but after the Tn High game coach said that the kicker had a slight groin pull so that might have been a factor or to show that he had confidence in the kids to get the job done, not really sure of which but the latter is my opnion. I have no idea what Mancuso's injury was/is except it was a leg injury suffered in the Jeff Co game and he needed help leaving the field. Larry contributes when he keeps his head in the game, which can be said about any kid. Last week punts were handled by Canepa and returns were Duanah, McPherson and Canepa. Up until then substitute Kinley for Canepa.

How is the injury situation in Kingsport? I wouldn't expect any deep kickoffs to your return men, we know what Dukhart can do. I hear that the Sensabugh kid might be a better linebacker than he is a running back, how much does he play both ways?

  16. I hope that the team can finish well, but we do have to factor in that what success we did have moving the ball last Friday was against a team that had lost 7 straight games. I don't think that the QB change will be a cure all. This team has bigger problems than that.

Never said it was a cure all, seems that the defense has allowed all these game winning drives to end the games and that the offense has not been able to keep the ball when it needs to run the clock. Sounds like a TEAM effort to me. There was a question asked and I answered it.

  17. Last year's D-B vs. Science Hill game was an outstanding game, where the elements had an impact...weather shouldn't be a factor this year...But it is D-B vs Science Hill...

Duanah is still a scary RB and he will easily be the best back D-B has seen since the Oak Ridge game, Tomas is a fine athlete and not going to be a stationary target, is the Hill defense still playing the 3-5-3?...what is the status of Mancuso?...how many are going both ways and who are they?...where is Ash playing - FB or receiver?...how about Larry Smith?...Joslin?...who has taken the spot T.Hill had at receiver?...who is returning kicks?...punts?...Kinsley getting the touches he should?...what about the FG kicker - can he?...

    Roll Tribe Roll

Aha talk about the game....defense is still 3-5-3....hopefully Mancuso will be available but Rodney Smith has been huge the last two games starting in that position....not many playing both ways but for a hand full of plays most notably Trent and Kinley...Ash took some snaps from the backfield and looked good doing it....if last week was any indication while not having Hill at receiver the ball was spreaded around to 6 different receivers and the ball is downfield, Joslin, Kinley and McPeherson all had over 40 yards receiving on two catches.....Fg kicker is perfect on the season and has range of around 40 yards.......

Now your turn...I know that the DB hasn't had to throw the ball the last few weeks but can they? I know that they will have some special defense cooked up for this game but are the able to contain the edges? I know that Dukhart(sp?), Crawford and Sylestver are their biggest threats in the passing game but is Ring do a good job of getting them the ball and the line giving them time? The worst thing about this game is once it starts it seems that it only takes about 15 minutes to get it played.....

  18. Well . . . Not so fast . . . I can probably speak for a few, but I can certainly speak for one! You won't see his face turn pale! To him, this is it! This is the Super Bowl! While you all "seem" to be more concerned about whom you are going to play in the play-offs of the first round.

I"m thinking this is a very dangerous game for D-B.

I agree wtih you, these kids see this as an opportunity to win their last game, especially the seniors.

  19. I think this game has the potential to surprise some people. I know that db has been on a winning streak and some of those teams are ones that the Hilltoppers have lost to but I'm trying to gauge of where the kids are before I can really talk about this game. I think that the Topper defense can stop the run, it's been the option that has given them trouble and if the offense can move the ball, then the game is a toss up.

  20. Yes, because on the other side of your argument it is ok for parents to get in a child's face after a game. That is sarcasm, if you don't know.

When is it okay for a parent (former coach) to get in the face of the head coaches after the game? Just kind of curious. It's wrong for any parent to get in the face of a kid that's not theirs over somethihng trivial as a football game but Greg Sharp is not to be without blame.

  21. No, No, No, sorry for not being more clear. Thomas did a GREAT job. I was just making a point that had been suggested earlier about working hard in the off season and not blaming coaches. I heard Thomas worked very hard in the off season for QB on his own and he wasn't given QB1 from the start. For someone that had to step in with so much adversity and step in at the end of the season ( without many game snaps) he couldn't have played any better.

I didn't think that you meant anything by it. It really is Tomas without the "h" their is an accent over the "a" but I don't know if it is able to type it in.
