  1. If south doyle plays thier game they will win, carter plays way too many people both ways to be effective late in the game, you agree ihop?

You hit the nail on the head about Carter. Lots of teams play kids both ways, but Carter has shown that they are about three steps beyond that. Carter will probably win 6 or 7 games this year and make the playoffs in order to get thier usual embarassment. Not going to change until they learn to develop more players.

South Doyle may be for real this year. I know, its just Carter, but this is the sort of game they have lost the last several years. Lets keep in touch the next couple of weeks and see what develops. And yeah, they have some men in the trenches.

  2. You are correct Leonardo, they should play O.S and Campbell County. makes more geographical sense, right? Well, sir they used to play 5A Campbell county every year, and played O.S just a few years back. My guess is they have a .600 record against O.S all-time, and .500 against Campbell County.

It is obvious we are just going to agree to disagree, however you do make some valid points and I respect your opinion. The only point I was ever trying to make is Region 1 is not a very strong 3A region. By the way did you see how the teams in Region 1 fared in week 0? Was it an 0 for week 0?

And oh my, the powerhouse teams they played were simply unbelievable! Gibbs played Cosby, the football powehouse Cosby. Claiborne did play a poweful 1A Midway and got beat soundly.

By the way that Union county comment I made about them never beating Scott and being a football powerhouse, was SARCASM. Believe me Leonardo I know that Union County is by no means a powerhouse I was saying that to add to my evidence of the weak 1A region. Just so you don't get confused again on sarcasm, the comment on Cosby being a powerhouse is also my attempt at sarcasm.

But anyway, enjoy the season. And support who ever it is you support.

Listen.......... Stop talking so much and listen. I think what Leonard is trying to say in a kind way is "Scott County is not a very good Region 2-AAA team and pointing fingers in other directions isnt going to change that". This thread is about Grainger County not your rantings.

  3. Hats off to Halls. The halftime score looked like what I and the West Rebels thought the game would be. Only thing, Julian and the Halls players thought different. Good job!!!!!! Too many teams roll over and give up after being down like that at the half. Not Halls............ I believe, I believe...........

  4. bertj, I have been around football all of my adult life as both a coach and a commentator, so I will weigh in on your point about playing the the nonstarters. I agree with you that there comes a time in games when you are either winning or losing by many points that the back-ups need to be rolled in. And it is a beautiful thought that those fellows can get some playing time, learn the system in game-time situations, and maybe give some extra depth in the next games to give the starters a rest. However, in reality, many high school teams, and I include ALL the Region 1 teams in this statement, do not have more than 6 guys that can play line and not be either humiliated on the field or physically hurt. Now I say this not knowing what the situation is at Carter, but the fact may be that the line does not get substituted because it could result in players being on the field that mentally don't know the plays well enough to keep a QB or RB from being destroyed, they may not be physically ready in that they did not work out hard enough or practice hard enough to prepare for the season, or...and I know this sounds bad, but it does happen more than people like to admit...the backups do not want to play; either because a parent is forcing them to be on the team or the kid knows that he is not ready to be on the field. Again, I have no clue what the situation at Carter is, but I think that it is our job as fans of the sport to remain positive...especially if we do not have all of the facts.

Facts are: Carter will continue to beat up on less talented teams and lose to the good teams. The trend has been in place for several years now and it isnt going to change. The only change was moving from the toughtest 4A Region in the state to the weakest 3A Region in the state.

Facts are: Carter (ie... the coaching staff) plays and has played 16 man football for years. When you only have 6 guys on the line that can play or else your afraid you will get them hurt, someone else hurt or embarassed; it means you havent developed your players. You dont develop players when your ahead 35 - 0 at the half and your 2's only get to play a couple of minutes. It also means that when you do play a good team, your 16 guys are too tired to give it their best late in the game. The situation isnt going to get any better next year or the year after until someone figures out how to substitute.

Not meant toward you Miney, but everyone wants to beat up on qbsdad. At least he has the guts to discuss what he sees. I've read several posts here and it sounds as if everyone else is afraid to give an honest opinion. Maybe they are afraid that junior will get placed at the end of the bench or that someone will get mad at them. At least qbsdad doesnt sugarcoat everything. There is no need to get personal about things but it IS ok to state an opinion.

  5. I watched Karns last week and they are young and seem to be a program that was inherited from shambles. I think they are going to be very good in the future. Bearden is very tough . I look to see Bearden win by two scores. Karns will have to have more offense to stay with the Bulldogs. I think the HC from Karns called a conservative game against Powell, his offense made need to get more interesting to fool the dogs.I watched Karns last week and they are young and seem to be a program that was inherited from shambles. Bearden will be too much for Karns. Bulldogs by 21............

  6. AE takes this one easily. 35-7. Carter is very inexperienced this year and AE's speed will exploit all those deficiencies. Watts and Jones will bring the d-backs up to stop the run and then Montgomery will have his break out game against Carter. It may be close at halftime but its pretty apparent that Carter cant stay with good teams for four quarters because they insist on playing 16 man football. AE rules this one................

  7. This one may come down to the kicking game, and we know who that favors. Been saying it all year, but when you dont cover "all" the basics, sometimes you get bit at an inappropriate time.

The other factor is the Catholic defense. The first two Fulton posessions of the second half are the critical area. Historically, this is the point that Rogan takes over. Gonna be a good one.

    Good luck to both teams.

  8. I heard that he said that if we didn't he would. It was like so totally obvious that GP and PF were totally like arguing and like it was all his fault because like it just was. and PF was like whatever, and then GP was like whatever, so they were both just like whatever. So i think GP and PF should just like totally do whatever and just you know be like whatever.

    Great reply.

I think you summed up this thread, like completely, dude...... or dudette, as the case may be. Me-thinks that people squabble over, like entirely random things, and if they would just try to get along, then, like, they could just be, like, whatever..........., you know?

    Now, isnt that better.

  9. Whats the old joke......I went to a fight and a football game broke out !!!!

The coaches, administration, and game officials all knew before this game started that emotions were running high. These two teams played just a few weeks ago in a game marred with late hits and unsportsmanlike conduct. When all this is known beforehand and it is still allowed to happen, one has to ask where the adult supervision was? Football is an emotional sport, but there are hundreds of teams across Tennessee that somehow are able to play football and yet maintain dignity and sportsmanship.

Pulling hard for Catholic to represent East Tennessee in the playoffs........

  10. Both teams have their fair share of Cheap Shots. I do think that several players from Carter got Caught giving some late hits, but I think If you watch the replay on VOD you will see that some of these late hits came after several Futlon players did things that some would say should have also been flagged. I do consider body slamming a QB several seconds after the play was over a personal foul. Should the Carter player have come hit the defender afterwards- no? I think that you do take up for your teammates though. If a Carter defender had body slammed a Fulton player from shoulder top after the whistle blew the sideline would have cleared from Fulton side. I also saw for the first time in my experience with High School Football a flag thrown on a coach for unsportsmanlike conduct and the ref put it back in his pocket and said no flag. The Fulton bench did almost clear with players and coaches after a late hit by a Carter player. Once again both teams have done there share of cheap shots. Both teams could use their share of football sportsmanship. I just did not see it as one sided as many did. Yes, Carter did hit some players late and made some bad dicisions, but several of the Fulton player did as well. Both teams talk to much and need to just shut-up and play the game.

Sorry, but I just have to resond to all this.

Most people would agree, a football team is a reflection of thier coach. If thats the case, then these two coaches need to go to counseling for anger management. Sounds as if the coaches have lost control of thier respective teams.

Fulton has always played with swagger and all that it entails, but until the last couple of years, I have always known Carter to have good sportsmanship. Is this what winning begets and is this the price you pay to have a winning football program???? There are a lot of schools around that have winning football programs that can still maintain thier integrity even if they lose a close game or two. Looks as if these two teams are a volatile mix and the coaches and officiating crew need to get a firm grip from the start of Friday's game.

    Good luck to both teams.

  11.

I know the thousands of people that watched you on CSS got a very good look a the lack of discipline and poor sportsmanship of the players on the field. Ohhh... and it sure didn't help to have the media and sports announcers blast you and go on and on about what they would do if they were in charge.

Didn't see the game Photoman, what were the CSS announcers saying......about Carter or Fulton???

  12. Consider this:

While there may be mismatches in the first round of the TSSAA Football Playoffs; of the 40 first round games involving #1 seeds in the public schools this year, 9 of the #1 seeds were upset. Three of the #1 seeded teams that lost, went into the playoffs with perfect 10-0 records. Class 5-A had 4 #1 seeds ousted, which would tend to inicate that there is more balance in the larger schools.

Lets hear it for all the underdogs that didnt realize they were supposed to roll over and play dead !

The #4 seeded teams that won were:

    Lake County

    Sweetwater

    Peabody

    Sycamore

    Haywood

    William Blount

    LaVergne

    Ravenwood

    Hendersonville

    Way to go !!!!!!!!!

  13. Whoa, Whoa, Whoa...I was trying to be nice but so much for that. I know LA stinks and is one of the worst teams in 3A this year, if not the worst (Scott beat em). I just didn't want to offend anyone. As for last year, just trying to say that the best team didn't necessarily win it. How can you say that wasn't the case? Fulton beat Livingston 18-6 but in a very ugly game. Fulton beat Catholic 38-9 the first time around (that's domination) but couldn't overcome some key mistakes the second time around, not to mention Smith made an incredible catch that, in my mind cost Fulton their 3rd title in as many years. IF he doesn't make that catch, the Falcons go on to beat LA at home, Notre Dame and D. Lipscomb were not nearly as good as I had thought, and well....result is long off-season. As the saying goes though, if If's and But's were Candy and Nuts we'd all have a merry christmas. As for this week, Fulton could send the JV squad and get it done.

    Thats just plain mean!!!!

Why do you feel the need to bash a great school and why oh why do you feel the need to justify losing to the team that lost to the team that won the State Championship last year........ Are you afraid it might happen again. Hmmmmmmmm

  14. What happened? Heard the score at the half was 14 - 3. I thought my choice to go see OR play Oltewah was a waste until I heard the final on this one. I really thought Carter would give Fulton a game of it. Did Carter turn the ball over a lot in the second half? Maybe Region 2 IS that much better.....

  15. To me this match up really isnt Rogan vs. Smith, as many of the prominent media outlets in Knoxville are making it out to be. Sure, their both great RB's and DB's. Smith might just be the best DB in the state. Rogna just might be the quickets and most elusive RB in the state.

But, to me it's about two things: QB play and special teams. Stinson is not having a lights out kinda year, but that has a lot to do with the playof his all world RB. He manages well and throws when it's necessary. Lindsey is the same kind of QB, though I believe Lindsey has made the most mark improvement of the two this year.

Special teams. Fulton punts very solidly, but they are iffy at best on xtra points. This might be Catholic's biggest advantage.

It may come down to which all star RB has the most yards...or it might come down to an extra point. My $$'s on the xtra point.

Got to agree with you on this one. Been saying all year long that Fulton HAS to get the kicking game going or its going to cost them. All I hear is that its better to go for 2 than it is for 1. Fulton could get bit by the kicking game in this one. Time will tell..............
