  1. OK... But can you change brands?????

If they are approved in the pre-game and have the FED (NFHS) mark on them they can be used. You can have a ball replaced only upon an award of a new series unless during inclement weather. I agree that this is not consistent but most officials will work with you as much as possible to keep a dry ball in the game. Would the change of brand helped you convert a big play or score? There should be no limit on how many balls can be approved during the pregame but is probably a crew preference or habit. There is no such thing as getting a "kicking" ball in for the PAT unless it is after a change of possesion and you have the opportunity to get a ball in timely. If not you will be kicking the other team's ball. No waiting because the ball boy is on the other end of the field because you were on defense.

  2. How about this situation: Every time a PAT/FG is attempted there is only one (1) striped shirt on the line. How can that person see holding on the other side of the ball?

Pay for the sixth official and you can have two. Mechanics are written to give the best coverage to a particular situation. On a FG/PAT the coverage emphasis is placed on the uprights and the kicker/holder. Sacrifices in coverage are made in particular areas to provide the best available coverage on the field.

  3. On the video it only showed one arm movement that was out from the head and down to the side very quickly and to the opposite side of the covering official from what I can tell. Was there any other movement before the camera turned to the return man. Appears to be an invalid fair catch signal and there possibly should have been a flag. A valid fair catch signal is clearly above the head and waved side to side. If that was the only signal (movement) that was made the covering official could have been blocked out.

  4. Thanks for the link but that comment wasn't necessary. There you go trying to start something. :thumb:

No instigation intended...but there are a lot of simple questions posted here and replies given about officiating and rules of the game when the most obvious choice would to be to look it up through the organizations that publish the info to begin with. The Rules, Case Book and Interpretations are available there also. If you want to take a signals chart with you to a game you might need to know the rule behind the signal. Good luck tonight.

  5. Does anyone know where I can find on the internet diagrams of what each of the hand signals referees use in high school football games mean. I ain't trying to start anything. I would just like to know. A few years ago I had a football schedule that had that on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

After reading the threads from Lake Co fans maybe you guys should spend a little time on this site. :D

  6. Off Topic I know... Who was the Aville middle school coach who got upset and thought that it was a good idea to physically shake and verbally abuse a young chain crew member at the game last night? I think they said his last name began with a P. I heard about it this morning but I was not at the game. Was anyone there that is following this forum? I would like to here both sides of the story. if true what precedent is that setting for the players and fans to witness.

  7. Hardin County- Class of '93. Started on both sides of the ball for three+ years before it was changed to 4A and playoff berths became easier. Always remember the games against Al Wilson at JCM among many others. Started on both sides of the ball for thirty games.
