  1. Is financial aid/scholarship given by family or student?

    My2cents,

Then why when I went for a friend to recive information for his 4 boys that he is transfering into town from Charlotte, NC and wanted to put his kids in a Church of Christ/ Christian school. ALl 4 are excellent athletes. Sent him the forms and the Person I spoke to offered me Finacial aid forms for my friend with the packet. I know to many people that send kids to private schools and I speak to the often. When in a group it came up about the Public/ private debate and he said his kids that are on the football team recieve aid and He knew of 4 other kids that get the same. That came up at a party about 4 weeks ago.

So I know for a fact that this guy would not Lie about something like that. He did not understand why.

  2. The problem is that the anti-private crowd has redefined "fair" to mean "equal in every way" instead of "the same rules of the game are used by all".

Some of the more even handed will admit that what they are after isn't "fairness" but what they call a "level playing field". So they lump all privates into a group and kick them out/multiply them...as if that suddenly makes the field level.

I don't think athletics is about "level playing fields"...that is way to PC for me. If you want a level playing field play Upwards ball...that way no one wins or loses and we all feel good...sort of.

Personally, during the 70s and 80s I didn't ever hear any publics complaining about the privates..because except for the current DII schools the publics were whipping us all. We could have cried and whined about the fact that we would never be able to match the athletes and facilities that the publics had...split off because the publics were just too tough for us, but we didn't. Now the table is turned (at least until the next economic downswing) and suddenly the privates are "unfair" or have some unreachable advantage. Bah. If the private haters really wanted a level playing field they would jump at the chance to institute a merit system...but most of them hate the idea. Why? What they really want is to punish the privates for getting good. Sad.

    Baldcoach,

I have been saying that for years. The Coaches in most Public schools are not as dedicated. Most Public school parents do not support their kids. Most do not know how they are doing in school or even if they goto school. Kids today are not as interested in athletics as they used to be. But, most private schools get the kids interested in going to games and coming out for athletics. I wonder why that is.

  3. WRONG! Take USJ. There are only a few private teams around them. They would have to travel great lengths for region and non-region games in football. Unless they want to play the same 5 teams over and over in other sports ... there travel will be GREATLY increased. That includes all the other D1 privates you want to move. Bad idea for them.

The students at those schools that receive financial aid are completely unable to participate in athletics. There are financial aid kids at all privates actually. So your gripe is?????

In statement 1 It would be less travel for them Because as it is right now. They have to travel to playMartin (43 Miles). Dyer (23 Miles), Dresden (41 miles) Just to name a few. When they would be playing Trinity Christian in Jackson,Fayette Academy in Somerville and Jackson Christian which is across town from them. Now they will have to go to Memphis for a few game or Nashville for a few. But it is still less on them then what they are doing presently.

In Statement 2, You are wrong again. They are playing. I know for a fact that 4 players at Lipscomb are on finacial aid and playing sports with 2 others. Last I heard in Football you could only have 2 on FA and be able to play.

  4. Let me start by saying I am not a Ronnie Carter fan. I respect the man because he is in a no win situation.

1- They do not investigate reports unless it comes from a school. Individuals unless they add Name address and a way of contacting them would be futal. Because they get 200 letters, emails a day from fans saying someone is recruiting or other issues.

2- He reports all findings to a board of governors. Which they have close to 10 school Principles and Athletic Directors on it. They make the decision on what the punishment is after Ronnie Carter and his group make their recommendations.

3- I blame Mr Carter and his staff for 2 things. A) the public/Private split. Spending hard earned money on trying to trap Brentwood Academy and keeping it in the courts so that the money spent should have gone into the kids and the schools that really need the help. He should either force all Private Schools into the Private School league or disband it all together.

  5. So what your saying isn't that the private schools are that good ... it is just that the public schools are that bad.:lol:

Maybe only for the privates already in D2. Take any of the cities with private schools that play in D1 ... there travel would in fact INCREASE in every single sport. GREATLY!
Fact is, when I pulled up all the Private schools in DI. There would be less travel for all schools involoved. Size Large and small.
Don't worry ... as soon as the US Supreme Court passes on hearing the next line of appeals by the TSSAA ... the D2 privates will be coming back to D1.
That could be true. But as for right now. we have 2 divisions and you can thank the public schools for that. But, It was started because the public schools thought there was an unfair advantage. I do not see an advantage. I see it as the coaches work hard with the kids and take more time to work with the kids.
No athletes in D1 are receiving financial aid or compensation sponsored by their schools. Period.
Ahhh, you are worng. Lipscomb, Goodpasture, Notre Dame and many more offer financial aid. They do not offer scholorships. That ios the difference.

Oops ... there are some of those D1 schools ... you may want to look up two big ones ... Maryville and Alcoa! He he! :D

  6. I get so tored of hearing how a multiplier works or doesn't work.

1- There are 2 division. 1 for public schools who can't fill a stadium if they tried except for a few. and 1 for Private schools, who play in DI because they do not want to face tough competition (Goodpasture,Knox Catholic, CPA, David Lipscomb, Notre Dame) just to name a few. If every Private school in TN played in DII it would be one heck of a ride. Financially it would not require much travel. Then you add some great Natural rivals.

2- They keep saying it is because of money. Well If everyone played DII that is a private school it would not be a problem. because travel expoenses would be down

3- People then would not hear the Public schools Cry about how unfair it is to play a Private school.

4- No matter how it is worded. Financial aid or compensation by way of a schalorship is the same. Aid is aid.

  7. Fist of all, your solution separating private and public has already destroyed some great natural rivalries. Second many private schools regularly play up in class to give their teams more challenge...we didn't need the TSSAA and the public schools to accomplish this. Third, if you are correct about the publics being loaded in talent (and they should have much more talent that many of the private schools, especially the DI schools that do not recruit and offer athletic related financial support)....then why in Heaven's name do you need a multiplier or a rule eliminating privates from playing publics. Actually I would rather see our DI privates all move to private vs private football if it would stop the publics from complaining. We could handle the travel of the football team and the longer trips for 2 or 3 travel games a year, but the killer is putting that type of travel requirement on our track, soccer, baseball, softball, golf teams etc. In most cases we're already playing up in these categories but eliminating private public play in these sports only puts unreasonable costs and travel risks on all of the kids in the state. Public and Private! Public schools have talent and depth...it shouldn't take a multiplier to bring them to a competitive level....just desire and effort....something they will need to develop to be successful in life ....out of public school! Maybe the TSSAA will make sure the public shool grads get a 1.8 salary multiplier when they graduate too!! :o Maybe not? :thumb:

What Natural Rivalries were destroyed. NONE, Hillwood and the AD for Metro schools(Scott Burnett) ended most of the rivalries. He does not want any Metro School to play Private schools. As for Other places. Just because you have a Private School league does not mean you do not play a Public School.

Private Schools have elected not to play some Public Schools for they do not bring fans to the games. Now in no means am I saying that it happens at all games or schools. Just as a whole, in Nashville Most Metro Schools do not bring enough fans to watch games so why play them.

  8. To Say Ryan showed their true colors? What kind of a comment is that. This is the second time this year I think Ryan did not play up to their potential. MBA did not out class them. They beat them up front with the Offensive and defensive lines.

Ryan still can and will be in post season play for the 1st time in a long time. Last time I looked. The Post-season meant that records are for nothing. It is a New season. Does not matter if you are 5-5 or 10-0. You lose you are done.

MBA still has some work to do before they are able to play in the POST season. Maybe they will make it or not. But one thing for sure. They will cause problems for others they are still to face.

As for JPII. Why play down in DII AA. If you think you can compete. Jump up in division and play with the big boys.

  10. The legal system is set up to protect the rights for those that have been wronged. The courts agree. Nothing more to say about that.

I disagree. The TSSAA should force all Private schools to play in the Private school league. Then you drop the multiplier and get back to basics. TSSAA under Ronnie Carter has had more issues(law Suits) That at anytime before. Because he is sensative to the public schools. Public Schools have the most talent just the coaches either can't get them to come out or they do not want to work hard enough to get them out.

  11. Ok....let me get this straight. Ryan has beaten 2 DII-AA teams (yes Briarcrest is still DII-AA in my eyes) and defeated a very average CBHS, and the Irish family is ready to crown them the next BA or MBA. Not to mention they got whipped by an average Franklin team.

No one doubts FR school pride and support, let's just keep it one game at a time. Should be a good game.

    GO CENT!!

No one has ever stated Ryan was ready to beat BA. Just they are excited the Ryan is finally back in the mix of Football's better half.

    Go Irish

  12. So ... I know for a fact this same thing is going on at Maryville and Alcoa ... is it wrong there too? They seem pretty dominant to me. It seems pretty hard to police people that aren't admins or coaches and what they want to do with their PERSONAL funds.

As for running scared ... I hardly think that living with a multiplier where every kid we have equals 1.8 of yours is running. Not only living with it ... owning it. :D

You sound like a poor little lad that apparently lost to one of those teams. Maybe you can get all other teams public and private thrown out of your classification and then you win the gold ball by default. :P

The TSSAA and the powers to be have made this a tough situation. If they are going to have a Division II then all schools that they are singleing out should play in it. Any schoool that needs a multiplier should be playing in DII.

  13. I thought that Father Ryan played Centennial this week not MBA. Why all the talk about MBA?

The question was for respect. I do not think Ryan should be respected till they play MBA. then we will seeWhat the Irish are going to do. I think the Irish should play one game at a time. But as far as getting Respect. It will be after the MBA game before I would consider them a Top team in DII

How is the Father Ryan QB? Didn't he get hurt a week or so ago?

Ryan Blair if pressed into action I feel could have player Against Briarcrest. I feel real strong that he will play This Friday. I do not think he will play a lot but should start.

  14. Sure the multiplier has helped the Public Schools. The Teachers really in most cases do not care if a kid passes or not. They are there to get a paycheck. I have heard from time to time many coaches say that If parents in the Public schools were as involoved with their kids like they are in the private schools we would not be talking about this issue.

Irish move up to 3rd this week. When is the last time anyone mentioned them in the same sentence as a potential Top 3 team in DII AAA? Congratulations Irish!

    Ole Dad

Does not matter how you spell it. At this point in the season Baylor has not played anyone.Brentwood Academy/McCallie winner should be 1-2 After that no one has risen to the top. Ryan is still fighting to be that 3rd team. Respect will come after MBA

  16. your right nothing wrong about the calls 8men in the box and run up the middle no pitch outs you must have been taking a nap like ole dad

I guess you are right. You can't run the football with 8 men in the BOX.

Wait Briarcrest had 9 in the box and the Irish rushed for over 300 yards last night. Execution goes a long way.

  17. Blow out by the Irish 33-0 I think was the final.

Great game on both sides of the ball with just a couple of slip ups here or there. It was great to see that even with the loss of their starting QB they can come out and win.

    Great game Irish

I am just glad the Irish showed that they can rebound from a bad loss the week before. Starting to show some character. When they play hard good things happen.

  18. WRONG! It does cost something to attend Alcoa and Maryville if you live out of the "city" zone. Matter of a fact, both schools have kids that live in Knox county and attend schools in the Alcoa and Maryville city schools ... both inside of Blount county. :thumb:

Someone is footing that bill too.

I did not know that it cost anything to attend a public school. You got me on that one. I am in Middle TN not East TN.

  19. Why is it different? Because you say so? :thumb:

There is no difference. If you live outside the Alcoa and Maryville zones, you must pay tuition costs exactly like a private school. Why is it different if a booster there pays for tuition for someone to attend there ... but not at another school?

And I'm not conceding that you even know what you are talking about anyway in the Goodpasture case ... but I can confirm it ... Drew and his wife are VERY close friends of me and my wife. We will actually be visiting them this weekend to let the kids play and to grill some hamburglars (yes, misspelled as an inside joke).

Because someone is not coming out of pocket to pay for someone to go to a school. How much does it cost to attend those schools? ZERO.

When you can come out of pocket and pay for it that is the difference.

  20. So ... I know for a fact this same thing is going on at Maryville and Alcoa ... is it wrong there too? They seem pretty dominant to me. It seems pretty hard to police people that aren't admins or coaches and what they want to do with their PERSONAL funds.

There is a Huge difference between doing it in a public school and a private school.

For a fact I know that Ray Maddox was on the board of directors of the Private school at the time it happened. That is why Schools like Riverdale, Oak Ridge, Austin-East, Ridgeway, Melrose, Brentwood High, amung a few, That complained highly for the split. Now it is time for the TSSAA to step up to the plate and force all Private Schools to move to DII. Then this debate would not be happening.

It is very easy for a Private school to police itself. It just takes people makeing the effort to follow through.
