  1. Jackson County and Clay County will both have a hard time making it back. Jackson having the better chance of the two though. Losing Roach and Cooper will impact CC more than losing Warden will for JC. Gonna be hard for both teams but not impossible.

I'd say Jackson County is the favorite to win the gold ball next season. They had a rough state tourney but they were the best team in the state the rest of the season. There is still plenty of talent there and JC always reloads.

  2. As for 7A being a lot stronger is a joke.

Since the 2001-2002 season, 7A has 5 gold balls and 4 silver balls, including 4 golds and 3 silvers in the last 9 years. If you include JC's AA time, these teams have 8 golds and 5 silvers in the last 14 seasons. JC, Clarkrange, and PC are 3 of the top 5 teams for state championships all-time. Rogers and Brown are probably the 2 best coaches in the state and Sims is only overshadowed because he coaches against them.

  3. Congrats to the Clay Co. Lady Bulldawgs on winning their first gold ball. This group of girls really put it together when it counted and Celina couldn't be more proud. I'm so happy that Coach Sims could finally get this win. He is one of the states finest coaches and has taken tons of undue criticism over the years for not winning this game. Clay Co. is lucky to have him.

Jackson Co. has nothing to hang their heads about. They are a great team and they showed that even when they weren't their best, they could beat about anyone in the state. I fully expect to see them in this game again next season.

  4. Without Roach playing "superhuman" ball yesterday the same arguement could be made for Clay Co. too. S'town sent the most talented team in 1A home because they never showed any fear of losing, when the chips were down they did whatever they had to do to win and that should worry their opposition. The last line of your post contradicts the point that they can't win without a big game from Franklin...12 ppg is a nice average but they obviously can win in other ways than her "going off" for 25-30 points.I thought that Cloudland was far better than the cupcake some people thought they were, and was impressed with C.C. for the way that they played, but the 'Landers also missed many shots they usualy make((2-5 footers)around the basket. In short Summertown beat a better team than Clay Co.did(IMO),with each team having a huge effort from one player, just that I see S'town winning if Franklin scores 10...don't see Clay Co. winning if Roach doesen't come up big again.

No, they sent the 2nd most talented team in 1A home because Flowers took herself out of the game. Otherwise, LC wins by 20. S'town is good and Franklin made some huge shots, but Flowers dominated that game and Roach is every bit that good of a player.

  5. Just looking at the stats, I think Clay Co. matches up very well. Summertown's guards turned the ball over and that is what Clay Co. lives on. Cooper can really eat up offensive rebounds and Summertown doesn't have any Hensley-size players to keep her at bay. Lastly, Flowers dominated that game when she was out there and I think that bodes well for Roach. If Clay Co. can get their turnovers down to around 10, I think they win this game handily.

  6. From the sounds of things Clay has kept control of this game!

55-43 final. Roach scored 29 and really gave this team an offensive boost when they couldn't get it going. Great all around game for this team but they have to get rid of the turnovers and the dumb fouls if they are going to make it to the finals.

  7. After Clay Co. upset Pickett Co. at home, the Bobcats took care of business and beat them 41-38 at PC last night. The Bobcats were up 10 with a minute to go but a quick 5 second call, 5 free throws and a three pointer by Celina made it look closer. PC was about to hand the game to Celina on a silver platter keeping Brandon Roop on the bench for the first 5 minutes giving Clay Co. a 7-0 lead, but once he was in it was 10-9 Bobcats at the end of one and Pickett Co.led most all of the game. After that Clay Co. only had 2 one point leads. Pickett led 6-10 most of the way. Roop showed why he is district MVP

Wow, this post is delusional at best. PC is good enough to beat Clay Co. but Clay Co. is the best team in the district. Also, Roop isn't his own teams MVP so I'd cool the district MVP talk. He's good when he's in control, but both times I've seen PC play he was the 2nd or 3rd best player on his team.

  8. ... uh... where was i gloating... tell me. IF i was gloating i would have said yeah yeah ya got 6 Gold and 2 Silver and a 22-4 record... we got a 20-1 record in The State with 5 Gold Balls to show for it yeah only 5 but eh, percentage wise we've got a better record, but yeah i'll admit the last 10 years have been... eh at best for us here in B'town last year and the year i was helping the program were our best years here since the mid 90's, man I cant wait till y'all go back up to AA maybe then y'all will have your ego's taken down 3-4 notches. Also fair warining, y'all may not wanna over look us on either boys or girls next year or ya may be in for a VERY rude awakening.

    N.J.

Fair warning, PC girls will be 4th in the district and like it. PC boys might take 1st, your girls don't have a chance.

swannie you are mistaken the girls beat JC in region 2009 and got beat in substate and the tssaa printout of this years tourney dosen't show the boys there since 1995 but it may be wrong.

Actually, you're mistaken. PC girls won at CSAS (on coach T team schedule), and PC boys went in '05 for sure ( beat Clay Co. on buzzer beater to win region and beat Grace to get there).

  9. I'd almost guarantee CC will be in a 2-3 zone as much as possible if these guards are good ball handlers. PC should be taking a lot of jumpers but Clay doesn't rebound well. Even when they won the region championship they were around -20 on the boards. CC can win but they have to get easy buckets and prevent 2nd chance points. Should be a good one.

  10. I don't know about Loretto,Wayne Co,Scotts Hill etc but I think Lake Co will be the team to beat next year.Lost in overtime in a game should have won..but I agree they didn't ..But that same team that beat Lake Co put a whiiping on the team that beat yall handidly.Jackson Co may do well against teams that play half court games but fast teams will run them ragged.Way too slow. The big girl had better lose a lot of weight.Looked to me like she was barely getting around..like maybe some leg problems. She's going to score some points down low because she is so big and if a team decides to let Jackson Co set up on defense, then her size could be a problem, but a true running team will have their way.

LC finishes with scores in the 40's way to often to think you can gonna run anybody out of the gym. This JC team with no seniors beat Livingston and Upperman twice and nearly took down Wilson Central. They had a bad game. Nothing more. Three of the top five teams in Class A will be playing in district 7A next year so they won't have an easy time getting back to state, but if they do good luck catching them on an off day again.

  11. Now Now, I am a hugh Blue Devil fan. And a Coach Brown fan. By the way...Congratulation to the Lady Blue...Great Season!

But now lets be honest, if you live in Jackson County, you know that we have (in the past) had a recruitment issue. Hopefully that practice has stopped.

The Lady Blue could have as easily won the state as they were defeated in the first game, this year. They have a team of Good Girls and Good Athletes, I think the maturity level was a big factor in their loss at State this year. No seniors, Actually if you have followed closely....The girls that are Juniors have not experienced a STRONG Senior leadership during their high school years. A little (flub-up) on Coach Brown's part and a little to much "pride" cost him a few years ago.....and still is showing effects on the team.

Next year, they will be ready.....Caroline and Hope are growing up.....the leadership level will begin to regain its strength.......They will be the team to beat in 2012.

Huh? Didn't this team have a boat load of seniors last season and win a state championship? Don't really have to be close to the situation to know things are going pretty well at JC. Taking shots at Coach Brown and state champion girls seems pretty dumb. Hope your second post on this site contains some intelligence.

  12. I think many times a team's past successes and gold balls works against them. I've reminded other fans on here that what their school accomplished in the past will do absolutely nothing for them this year. NO team has a birthright to the state tournament - it has to be earned - just as winning the state championship will have to be.

Central has yet to do it, even though they've come oh so close. I'm hoping that hunger keeps them focused this year.

Words from some who has never won anything. It's funny how the same teams seem to get to state year after year with all those banners in their gyms working against them. Of course the title has to be earned and some schools know what it takes to win it while others either don't care or have to learn the hard way. Losing big games makes you stronger and winning them gives you the confidence to do it again. Those banners mean more than you think.

  13. Private Schools in all other sports, except baseball and softball, are even in my with public schools in my book. In single a football it was split in the past decade with DCA, Boyd, and CPA winning early in the decade, and when Trousdale County come back down they and South Pitt has dominated A football. In the 90's Trousdale pretty much had its way in single a football, so in football there haven't been much difference in private and public schools. You have seen statistics for A mens basketball in the last 10 years that wardawg give, so private schools have been even in basketball as well. In single a womens basketball Jackson County has 2 gold balls, Clarkrange has 2, Forrest has 1, and Gleaseon has 1 all in the last 10 years so public schools have won more in womens basketball. The sports private schools really take control in is baseball and softball. Over in region 4a, Friendship Christian has won this region every year since Upperman left A and went up to AA and even then I know they were winning it then some too. In region 4a softball only 2 teams have put FCS out of tournament play and that was Trousdale County early in the 00's who beat FCS for the district championship and in the same year RBS elimated FCS from the region tournament. Other than that FCS has won this region as well. When Forrest won the softball A state championship a few years back it was the first time a public school had done so since Westmoreland had won it in the 80's, so in baseball and softball is where private schools get their bad name...not any other of the major sports!

I don't see why private schools should just get a bad name in baseball and softball. FCS had a center (football) from Michigan a few years back. Also, from what I hear Temple doesn't have any state titles. They got stripped because the Skogan's lived on campus (feel free to clear this up if it is incorrect). It's silly that any private schools play against public schools anyway. Private school student bodies are small because the hand-pick who gets in. Public schools don't get that luxury. If they build a good program then maybe they get a few players throughout the years. Just put all the private schools in division II and get it over with.

  14. In 06-07 Jackson County got beat pretty bad by Gleason who went on to eventually win it all, but that was in the semi-finals. Losing like this takes nothing away from JC as I firmly still believe they are every bit as good as they were last year in talent, but outside 1 player this was an inexperienced team going to Murfreesboro. However, next year they return every starter on this squad so they have to definately be the favorites to win it all next year...

Clay lost by 15 to Ezell in the state finals a few years back and I think they got beat pretty good the year before that. It happens, especially in the first round when players are getting used to the surroundings.
