Well that is the type of thing that tears teams apart. I have seen it before. When people start making it all about one person and not the team it happens. The other players get tired of hearing it. You have a very good team and a great young pitcher. Best of luck to all.
if i had a daughter i would just hope and pray she becomes as good as Kara Woods!!! she is not only a great pitcher but she dont take credit. she says its a team thing not her. she is the most dedicated young lady i have ever been around. she is not the type to tear a team apart by braggin. she could care less what people say about her as long as she helps her team and everyone knows she did! she is by far the best pitcher i have ever seen and if and when i have a daughter i will only hope she is just like Ms. Woods. She is an outstanding young lady and would give you the shirt off her back if you asked for it. She was raised right and that is where we all need to thank her mom and dad. Great young lady and i hope she keeps winning and goes on to pitch someone to an NCAA National Championship. Kara you are the very best pitcher in the state in my opinion. Keep it up because your just pitching your way to any college you wanna go too!! Way to go Unicoi on your title!!!

Unicoi County and the double horseshoes have been playing a high level of baseball and softball for a very long time. The first time I saw the baseball team play was at a state tourney in the mid 90s. That same year the 13-15 yr old state softball tourney was in Erwin, Tn. I coached the Madison team in that tourney and our experience there was very positive. The newspaper covered the tourney and the officials running the tourney and umpires were great people. I ran into some Unicoi people in 2002 at the Eastman Kodak tourney when I assisted at Goodpasture. I was suprized that they remembered me by name and how welcoming they were. The Lady Devils followed the course for success over the years with strong development leagues, dedicated adult leadership and good work ethic. This year it paid off. Congratulations on your state title. I was with the Goodpasture assistant coach on Saturday afternoon and his comments were that the Unicoi team won with class and acted like they had been there before. Good luck in the future and keep working hard at this game.
i just wanted to say thank you to this man because nobody else is giving our little hometown of Erwin any credit. Yes the girls were happy (wouldnt anyone be??) but they played with class and just because some people get a little crazy on here and at the games doesnt mean we dont have any class up here. Unicoi is a great place to watch some very good sports teams play. The baseball team and softball teams came up through Hall of Fame coach Charlie Baxter. He has always taught his players to play with class no matter what the crowd is doin. ( i played under him for 2 years before tearing my rotator cuff) so just because someone is on here bein a little cocky doesnt mean yall should just judge us all. and once again i would just like to congradulate the Unicoi County Lady Blue Devils on a job well done. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Congrats to my Unicoi County Lady Devils!!! we all knew yall would bring us that title back home!!! UNICOI COUNTY SHOULD HAVE THE RESPECT OF EVERYONE!!! WE DID BEAT A 6 TIME DEFENDING STATE CHAMP!! if their is any doubts about it now then your just plain stupid!! unicoi is goin be a force for the next couple of years so dont be surprised when we bring it back home next year!!

Ali without your big hits and play in the outfield they couldnt have done it.
Mikayla your speed and fielding ability was a huge factor this season.
Elizabeth your plays at first and key hittin and patience at the plate was big.
Whitley wow your ability to call the right pitches and your hitting was key this year!!

ok really why does everyone doubt Unicoi?? Is it because we live in a little town that not alot of people have heard about except when it comes to softball?? Unicoi is one of the best teams in the state every year and even if Goodpasture beats them tonight dont think you wont see the two teams play again in state championship game!! Unicoi has alot of heart and one of the best pitchers in the state who doesnt give up alot of hits. Even if GP has better hitters its not goin matter if they cant hit what she throws. should be a great game and like i said you will see this game again in the very near future.

Ok well everyone is sayin that these are two fighting to win the state championship and tonight we get to see them play. So i wanna hear what you think is goin happen just from the games that you have seen them play in this tournament. I dont care what they did during the year or any other tournament because that means nothing now. This should be a great game and down to wire so whats your pick??

ok first of all i would like to thank you all for making me laugh by reading the conversations goin on here.
and second i will be probably the only person that will get on here and tell you flat out i really dont kno much about the teams playin but i would just like to wish the Unicoi County Lady Devils the best of luck down there and just kno that we really dont care where you place cause we are all still proud of you!!!

ok wow so everyone on here picks stone to mercy rule us and beat us and all this stuff but i guess the only people that really realize just how good Unicoi really is are the people that go and watch them!! just thought i would drop in my two cents and say congrats to Unicoi County on another trip to the Boro!!! Hope they have a safe trip down but more on the way home so that state champion trophy doesnt fall and break!!!

so just because a team has an off night means they cant win it all?? lol your crazy i would just about bet that GP would not even come close to beatin some of those teams down in South Carolina.......and they were Eastman Tournament champs which was played by 40 teams!!!! all im sayin is dont be surprised when Ms. Woods pitches us to a STATE TITLE!!!

Whats up with Unicoi loosing 2 in a row in Loudon. How is the Whitson kid looking. Been hearing mixed reports. Does Unicoi played any tough non-district games. I know they have 1 against DB, any others to speak of. Will they be able to compete against the teams from Region 2 this year. I know they got it handed to them last year by Gibbs (I think). Just curious. Unicoi has always been a great program with great tradition under Coach Baxter. I do have one more question however, what happened to everyone parking their cars and trucks around the outfield fences, and blowing their horns and ringing the cowbells, and such. I know in the 80's that was one tough place to play.
Unicoi played like crap down there and the teams they played are really good baseball programs and im not sure about there non district games but im pretty sure we play DB twice at least and i think they will be able to compete pretty good with Region 2 and as far as the Whitson kid he was in a car wreck and hurt his back so he really isnt playin much right now but he will be just as good when he gets back as he was before and we have started the trucks in the outfield again this year!!

I am a parent of a Allen County-Scottsville player I will be the first to tell you unicoi is very good they are a very good defensive team and have some very good pitching. they are solid from top to bottom as for us we did beat a couple ranked teams in south carolina but we are no where close to a top 10 nationally ranked team we are ranked 6th in ky. we do not class like tenn. everyone is together and we are young we are soph. dominated with only 1 starting sr. our pitchers are freshmen . we would like to be at that national level soon we are working hard o get ther but not yet. unicoi you have a good team keep going strong
and as for the beech game that was our second game of the season we were up in the 3rd 2-0 and one of our younger pitchers gave up a couple big hr's but dont be fooled beech is very good i'm making no excuses they are good.
yea i didnt get to go down there but im sure Scottsville is a very good team and Unicoi only has 4 seniors and our pitcher is a Soph. too

I've been out of town for a couple of days & didin't get to read Coach T or the newspapers. How did Unicoi Co. fare in the Azalea Inv. tournament? Also, how did Unaka come out? Any news would be appreciated.
Unicoi played amazing down there just coming up short in the Championship game. they lost 2-1 and the only runs came in the first on a wind blown homerun (first of the girls life)!!!!

i dk anything about Grainger but i kno unicoi has been having been playing crazy good ball lately!!!! they beat 4 nationally ranked teams in Summerville,SC Tourney before loosing a nail biter Championship game to a top 10 nationally ranked team 2-1. Kara Woods is AMAZING!!! the defense plays great behind her and there bats need to improve some but its hard to even score on Kara!!

When One kid is down another steps up. No more bickering between parents, and the kids are really responding well. NFS tournament we Played, S. South Won 4-0, Cherokee 1- U.C. 7 Win, Volunteer Mercy rule. Very Good Talented ball clubs. Not too shabby I would say. I truely love watching Miss Gilbert pitch, she is so calm and collective. Great job!

i have seen both of them play this year and i really dont think it will even be close. i think that Unicoi will beat them by at least 5. Unicoi has been killing people this year (even beating Loudon twice) beating Elizabethton was there hardest challege yet and they won that one by 4 and every player on the team is capable of hitting a homerun at any giving moment so they are goin to be a tuff team to beat this year. Pitching is domanating people and they usually dont make to many stupid errors so like i said i think Unicoi will win this one but it should be a pretty good game.

Ok I'm from Unicoi and yes I kno the guy made a bad pick when he picked GP but like he says if you go back and read his recap of the State tourney he does give the "U" the credit we deserve. He also states that he made a bad pick and that he underestimated us. But hey lets quit givin the man a hard time. We all make mistakes and we get forgiven so lets forgive the man and maybe next year he will realize we are a small town team with a big heart and alot of desire to win. So once again Congrats to the "U" on yall's win, just do it again next year and show everyone it wasn't just a fluke!!
