  1. Ok, an outsiders perspective.

Key is very good. Clay is very good. Van Buren is just a little behind and if they were missing a starter like someone on here stated then I would love to see these 2 battle again at full strength! The score is not indicative of how close the game was throughout.

Now, on another note, I've never seen 2 people argue with the air and be so ungraceful in victory as shozen and UC. People keep agreeing with them and they keep saying no, no Key is the best! And then UC keeps coming back with his backhanded compliments about how Mills is a fine or solid player. Which is ok if that's how you describe a D1 player, because that's what Mills is.

  2. Not sure what game you were looking at but against Clay Co this year Mills scored 17 Key had 31 for Clay. Key hands down best player in this area, that being said Mills would be hard to beat for the second best in this area behind Key. Mills also just a sophomore so he will be around this conversation for awhile. To great players hope Key and Mills the best in the voting need a Mr Basketball from this area.

He said the Tennessean box score so this wasn't hard to find:

  3. Malcolm Montgomery to Gallatin.. good hire..  Whats the latest with BGA, Macon, Dickson Co?  I am hearing a name that is associated with the Dickson Co job, but dont want to mention til it is announced...

Is this the same Montgomery who was at Warren County? If so, please tell me you're being sarcastic!?

  4. Basin has been bad for awhile. They may not have been "sub .500" but lots of teams can accomplish that with proper scheduling. And making your region is not real tough with only 5 teams in your district. If people in Basin were expecting much more than what they are getting then it is the expectations that are misplaced and need to be reevaluated.

  5. I find it odd that so many in this thread are talking about how they had this homerun "400 game winner" hire available yet no names are mentioned. Who was this homerun hire that was available?

This local hire will prove to be very good for WC. The guy can flat out coach and he knows the landscape. The kids will play hard and be competitive immediately.

  6. Well, with a week to go I think it's a good time to revisit the district and predict how things will finish. It's looking like we all sold Van Buren short and barring something disastrous they should finish at the top heading into the tournament. As for POY I'd go with Walling from Van Buren. My predictions for how they finish heading into the tournament is:

    Van Buren

    Lookout Valley

    Signal Mountain

    South Pittsburg

    Sale Creek

    Whitwell

    Marion

    Richard Hardy Memorial

  7. Yes a complaint can be filed and what should happen is the teams should be made to finish the game. However, I doubt the TSSAA will do anything.

I must admit I'm very surprised anyone thought this was the right call.

A lot of interesting stuff in this thread. First, I'm surprised smeagle that you were so certain that everyone should know this rule. I mean I'm impressed that anyone did because it's a very obscure rule and hardly as cut and dried as you made it sound at the beginning of this thread. I know lots of people that would have argued that this was the correct ruling and I don't mean just casual fans. Obviously reading this shows that it was not, but only after some good discussion followed by someone posting the exact rule. While it is unfortunate for Signal Mtn this is FAR from the worst call in history.

Second, it would have been nice (if the Signal coach was pleading his case - which you say he was - and I have no reason to believe otherwise)to see the officials just say, "ok, here is what we'll do. We'll let the Whitwell player shoot the free throws and then play the overtime. If we find out after the fact that we have made the incorrect ruling, Whitwell can protest and we can easily reverse the decision since we know if he has hit the free throws." This would have covered both scenarios because I do not believe it is appropriate to go back later to play 4 minutes of ball. Again, it is unfortunate, but then again, mistakes are made by officials every game that affect the outcome of close games. If we go back and replay this it opens the door for all one possession games to be "challenged and replayed" because of all "the worst calls in history".

Third, it is hilarious, but not surprising to read muffin's "the refs made the right call" response after the correct ruling had already been provided clearly showing that they had not. Seriously? Read the preceding posts before commenting! lol

  8. I don't know mjca, I think you are being a little hard on van buren. I could see them finishing as high as 3rd in the district race, and MAYBE even slipping inside of south pitt for 2nd. No one is going to compete with Signal Mtn tho - did you the see the job they did on SP last night - WOW! No one in the district can touch them. My predictions at this point would be:

    1. SM

    2. SP

    3. LV

    4. VB

    5. SC

    6. WHS

    7. MC

    8. RH

  9. The two possible opponents also had the opportunity to come watch this game.

I understand and while this makes it more understandable it still does not answer the issue of one team having an extra day of practice and rest in preparation for a game that sends you to the substate. It also opens this up as an option everytime this situation arises which is not that unrealistic considering the number of region quarterfinals games played in all classifications in both boys and girls throughout the state. What if the next time this happens the two possible opponents have to decide between scouting or watching their girls teams play? A coach shouldn't have to be put in this situation in my opinion and Notre Dame/York (I haven't checked on who won this morning) have still been put at a disadvantage for this Tuesday's game.

  10. In my opinion allowing both games to be played on the same night allows the boys team that wins (in this case Upperman) an unfair advantage. They now have an extra day of rest, extra day to practice, and the opportunity to go scout tonight's game in preparation for their game in the semis. I completely understand travel, expenses, and fan support, but these should not outweigh giving an advantage to one team that can easily be avoided. If I were fans/coaches of the winner of tonight's game to face Upperman I would be upset.

  11. yeahbuddy,

I had the priviledge over the last 4 years when VB was in district 9A to watch them play multiple times. While they struggled in the win/loss column last year every year they were a tough, solid team. The 3 years prior they were very good including going undefeated 2 years ago in the district regular season. If your team went 10-14 last year then maybe the soul searching you refer to will reveal that you need to worry more about your own team instead of running other teams down with no facts to base your opinions on. My guess is that last year was an aberration for VB and in fact, if you look at their records over the previous years it seems to be the norm that they are good in more years than they are below average. Even last year as they struggled they were competitive on a nightly basis and always played extremely hard. I doubt that you can find anyone in the district who has a negative thing to say about them from the 4 years they spent in 9A (except for maybe the long drive to their place. haha). After your disrespectful, asinine comments I will definitely cheer for your opponents throughout the year.

  12. I have a question about when teams go to so many of these camps. I saw where one team above had like 4 or 5 camps listed, but it is my understanding that you only get 15 days of practice during the summer with only 10 of those being game competition. So I'm wondering how you go so many different places? Are these teams only going to one day of these camps or only practicing 5 days and then playing the rest of the days? I'm curious as to how different teams are arranging their schedules to practice, go to camp, and this many camps in this short time?

  13. This decade, they became more uptempo and talented with the arrival of one Skogen family. The Wadley and Mouw families, as well as transfers Dee Newson, Jeremy Sexton, and Jarrod Johnson certainly haven't hurt. They've had a ton of players. It's been an impressive run.

Key words in bold. With "arrivals" and "transfers" like this anybody would build a dynasty.

I don't believe you are correct because the one seed is given a bye and the 2-4 are given a first round home game like last year. Isn't the TSSAA requiring this now for all tournaments?

The one seed is given a bye, but this year there will be no first round home games based on seeding unless something has changed or is changed before the tournament begins. It was determined that all games be played at the host school (Eagleville) and the requirements from TSSAA are in relation to the first round of the region tournament. There are very few things required by the TSSAA in relationship to how a district runs its tournament other than the fact that it must send 4 teams to the region tourney. In fact, if they so choose a district can just send its four top teams based on the regular season standing to the region. All seem to follow the same basic format, but it is not required.

Big game between Forrest and MTCS. This is a game which could determine a first round home game.

All games including the first round of this year's tournament are being held at Eagleville at "neutral" site. There will be no first round home games based on seeding.

  16. Unionvegas, what the heck is going on with Community? Cascade blew VB out of the gym on Tuesday then they beat Community by 10 last night... I thought they would contend for the district title this year, but losses to VB and MTC have me scratching my head right now...

On a side note, Congratulations to the Champs on a huge win last night against Eagleville. That gives them a 3-0 start in the region. Keep it up guys!

Before we assume too much Cascade 11 let's look at each game realistically and for what they are- 1 game. I'm as happy as all of the Champs fans with our quick start and especially our big win last night. With that being said though saying we blew VB out of the gym is a bit misleading even with the huge score. The game was tight and back and forth the majority of the first quarter and was shaping up to be another great district game. At that point we made one huge run that was the result of one or two things: either our great pressure or their lack of execution (this depends on which side of the gym your sitting on). The game/score really spiraled in the second half due to the fact that VB's coach subbed early in the 3rd. We must remember that VB is replacing a lot and are going to have some stretches like that. I would bet the team Community faced is much closer to the real VB than the one we saw Tuesday night.

That being said- The Champs are the team to beat! I cannot see anyone slowing us down right now. We are still not far along with guys coming out of football and when we peak, look out 9A!

One final question- anyone know the final score of the Boyd-MTCS game from last night?
