  1. I watched the Antioch game. Lebanon actually played well.  Halftime adjustments limited Antioch’s QB…who I might add was the best player on the field. They will win a few games for sure. Lebanon is a tough matchup for a 4A team   They are a solid 6A team. Looking forward to watching this one.

  2. Nope...not in your gym. Oh moneyman...where oh where are those Kittes practicing today?

I'll let you tell it. I don't want to let the Kittie out of the bag. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Now may you see why we have what we have. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

You know.....the fan has been real quiet the last few years on the T....just too much work. Not many things have push me to post....but this is one of those times.....I just cant believe it. No wonder it came such a thunderstorm tonite..... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> !!!!!!

I work with several FC people and from what I'm hearing they won't be bringing much of a crowd. I'm hoping I can wear enough SC stuff to work this week to get some interest stirred up. I saw FC play Warren Co. and they've got some good athletes. If they buy into Coach Britton's system soon, they'll be one of the top dogs in their region. Stovall is a ballplayer. Good on both sides of the ball. They're not afraid to throw it around alot to both Stovall and #11 Dixon. They're a better ball club than their record shows. Smith Co. needs to come out Friday night and play a solid, complete game.

All FC fans need to make the trip to this game. SC is a great place to watch a football game. The Tennessean ranked SC as one of the top 10 places in the midstate to watch high school football. Did I mention the burgers at the concession stand? Worth the price of admission themselves!

I know this is looking 12 months into the future but SC fans need to make the trip to FC next year. (I assume this is a 2 year deal) They also have really good facilities. The stadium is one of the best I've seen.

I hope to see a better crowd than expected from Franklin Co. Even during the bad times Smith Co. has always kept a solid following. There is not many places better to watch a game than Smith Co. Next year Smith will bring a nice crowd to Winchester....and lets face it....we all need the money. So make the trip Franklin Co. fans. It should be a great game to watch!!

Well......The Fans 1st post of the year. It could only take the infamous Macon County thread to bring me back. If it makes you Macon fans feel any better you will have nothing to fear from Smith Co. Isnt it your guys Homecoming game?? We all know we save our "Sure Win" games for Homecoming.

  5. I am so upset!!!...I truly didn't mean to exclude you from the shopping spree of Vettasue!!!...

Vetta...you'll have to stop in the furniture store too...they have everything!!!

I miss jawing on Coach T like I have done in past years. I just cant work it in to my busy schedule. But I'm glad to see Alcoa is looking past Smith Co. to next weeks title game. You know....Knox Fulton did that 2 years ago in the 3A semis at Smith Co. and found themselves in a dogfight. Yes...they pulled away in the 4th quarter....but they rushed for 23 yards total in that game. Alcoa is the favorite......what do we have to lose? Lets go 200% and see what happends. Can we win? Of course not....RIGHT SMYRNA?????????????

Fan(GO OWLS.....I forgive you Queen...whens the next jive?)

  6. Alcoa has too much for the Owls this Friday. The Hole is going to be ripped wide open as Shiver, Lanxter, Cobb and Sykes dominate. Coaching and inspiration will only get a team so far. After the first few minutes, inspiration will give way to intimidation, complication, eventually frustration and total Hurricane domination!!!

Good Luck Hurricanes!!! Bring home another Gold Ball for East TN and the Knoxville area!!!

Intimidated?? Maybe you need to ask Coach Rankin if a Smith Co. team will EVER be intimidated. If you expect that your coming to the wrong place. We will fight to the end....like ALL Smith Co. teams lead by Gary Rankin himself....and especially Coach Maynord.

I can push my own chair thank you....and be carefull what you say...your no spring chicken either.

Fan(who thinks the Owls are not as big a pushover as Alcoa thinks...How many playoff games has Rankin won at Smith Co.????)

  8. i'm gonna have to find ya at the game. been awhile boss. bet u have gotten older.

Well I hate to disappoint the sleepman but if anything I have gotten better looking(if thats possible). Where have you been? This cant be your first time back and I'm mad you haven't ventured down to see the "old" fan. You know where I sit and you better come down to visit.

  9. Congradulations to Smith Co. on there win, but I thought it was very distasteful and very disrespectful to go for 2 onside kicks while up 35-0 and then again at 42-0........ Smith Co showed very little or no taste, and something the Bledsoe kids may get to repay some day.........

One more thing I hope the same officating crew does your game this next weekend, as it's the only crew in Tennessee that will let a team hold on 95% of it's running plays and not call a single one :thumb: ...... Only penality I saw all night is when they killed our punter after a punt and all we got then was running into the kicker, it should have been roughing the punter and a first down Bledsoe...... But like I said, I have the entire game on tape and 19 running plays I have clear video proof of offensive holding without 1 single call, and also there was holding on nearly every scoring play......... I hope for you sake the ref's are the same or no other crew will let the Owls away with that kind of stuff. Most crews will not let the offensive tackles hold the defensive lineman's jersey's all night long without doing something about it, and both of Smith Co.'s done it all night long....... Bledsoe Co. Warrior

ARE YOU KIDDING? Smith Co. could have beat you 75 to 0. As for the onside kicks....if you think that your not very informed. Smith Co. lost its starting kicker during the week. The back up did the best he could with little time to prepare for such a big game. Would you kick an onsides kick from your 25 yard line? We wouldnt either.

Fan(who hopes Smith Co. can "hold" their way to a big win at Boyd!!!)

  10. I've read some of the messages on this board, and normally I don't like getting involved on these message boards. Everyone has their opinion, and usually, folks end up getting into arguments with one another, because they believe so strongly in their own opinion.

I'm no expert... I will never claim to be... but I've watched DeKalb County football for the better part of the last 14 years. I've seen the talent here go up and down, and I've seen this program struggle mightily since Tennessee went to the five-region format. Change is change, and every program has to deal with it. I liken DeKalb to Macon County in that situation. A very similar rural school, similar in size, which has made it work, going up against traditional football powers.

DeKalb County can do it also; I believe big steps have already been taken in that direction. Those who watched the games last season, and have watched them this season, know this team is much better. Don't necessarily look at wins, but look at the intangibles. The attitudes are better, their overall strength is better, and some young talent with potential has shown what they're very soon going to be capable of. It's sad that this year's seniors, a truly good group of kids, won't be here next year and the year after, when this team has a shot to be a playoff contender. I hope they can someday look back and be proud to know they were a big part of the foundation of the Tiger turnaround.

Coach Trapp is a young guy; we all knew that when he came in. The more I've been around him and talked to him, the more I'm convinced he's going in the right direction. If he's unsure of what he needs to do, he finds out. This guy is a hard worker, and one thing is for certain - he loves DeKalb County football. That's important for this program. Coach Trapp isn't a know-it-all, but he is a tireless worker and learner. He will have to continue grow, as a coach, with this program, but I know he will, if given the chance.

What fans have to have is patience and understanding. Politics and griping around here have done more to ruin, not just football, but the entire athletic landscape. The attitude needs to be positive toward "team" and not negative when "my son" isn't in the starting line-up every week. It seems to be better this year, but in years past, that has been a problem. Give the coach some room; he must make decisions, whether fans think they're right or wrong. That's what the man is hired to do. Coach this football team. He has my full support. I think he's already done a good job, and with the diligence he approaches his job with, things will only get better if those around the program will allow it.

He has already won more games in his first year than the Coach who started Smith Co. in the right direction in the 80's. Who was the Coach? Gary Rankin. Just think if Smith had fired him after one year!!

Fan(why would DeKalb fans be so impatient?)

  11. My comments are in response toDCHSTIGERS posts #'s 3 &7 under, "How does DeKalb change." I'm amused at your comments concerning the players...ie, "lack of heart...poor blocking...they don't make tackles, etc., etc.! Your pathetic attempt to shift the blame for their poor performance record (1-6) to the players indicates to me, "you have LITTLE or NO knowledge concerning what it takes to build a winning high school football program!"

It STARTS and ENDS with theCOACH!!! The current head coach has worked hard on the physical developement of the playersand, it shows, contrary to you comments, at game time. Unfortunately, the coach has not done a good job in the following areas: Player skills developement...proper use of available talent...game planning...play calling during games and worst of all, the ability to communicate with his players!

This team goes into its 8th and final home game of the season at 1-6. Frankly, knowledgeable people felt this team had sufficient talent to have achieved a minimum record of 3-4 going into the White House Game. Thelosses to Watertown ,and yes, the home coming game to Upperman can be laid directly at the feet of the coach! The reasons, poor play selection and weak choices of selected players in key positions!

This team has the talent, if properly used, to still salvage what is at best a dissatisfying season by winning at least 2 of their remaining 3 games. Unfortunately, unless the coach will, "look into the mirror" and acknowledge and correct his errors by supporting and using the the players with the talent and experience to make the team reasonably competitive, we will turn the remaing 3-0 season into 0-3!

Now, DCHSTIGER, "take your best shot at my commrnts but remember it's up to the coach to "make thingshappen in a positive way during the balance of the season." Can he and his staff do it?? I'd like to think he Can and WILL do it!

By the way, a recent comment on Coach T concerning "Bear Bryant's" view of the coach's responsibility says it best! I hope you read it and, more importantly, understand it!

The best thing he could do now is run off the players who are unhappy and start over. Worked at Smith Co.... can work in DeKalb too.

  12. Actually i do think DeKalb could play with them teams and i know it dont count but DeKalb did play montery in the preseason and won 31-0

Maybe DeKalb Co. will decide to play Smith Co. next year. Im sure it will be a close game as it always has been. ;) Come on guys, If nothing else its a cash cow for you guys to play us. Who else will fill the visitors side at DeKalb?

Fan(who would rather go to DeKalb than Knoxville)

  13. How many of you guys are going to make the trip tonight? Our new school is a thousand times nicer than our old dump. Come check it out!!

ALL of us. Smith Co. travels in packs. I have been to the new place 2 yrs ago. And if you remember the weather you know Im a true fan.

  14. I am going to have to disagree with you for ONCE fan man. Most always, you speak the truth. But Upperman has been know to have a crowd that was standing room only, three deep. This is going to amaze some of you. As a matter of fact, in 1996 before Upperman's first playoff game, UHS moved two softball bleachers into the endzone to try and accomodate more people. It was still standing room only. I know, I know, that was 10 years ago, but I was just replying because of the "NEVER" in caps. lol.

    DH

Well...if you count what Upperman had for stands in the old stadium as being standing room only I will agree. But compared to Smith Co.....or Gordansville for that matter(ouch, it hurts to say anything good about G-ville  ) they have had small crowds for years. And thank goodness...Im sure Coach Maynord would still be there if they supported football like Smith Co. does.

Fan(its not the accuracy of the post...its the impact :P )

  15. Post pictures...I'll believe it when I see it. Here's your crowd at SC last year.

    pic31334.jpg

There are more students on the field they they have fans in the stands. But to tell you the truth it looks like a big crowd for Upperman to me.

Fan(who has watched Smith and Upperman play for years.....and Upperman has NEVER had a standing room only crowd...even when they won a few)
