Ja24, watching and reading your posts. How many seniors does LaVergne this year?
What does everyone think about Gallatin upsetting Beech. Or does anyone care. I think on this given night, coaching won the game and not the players. It's embarrassing.
-
Can't pass this up:
Beech - continually does the best job, most underrated
Gallatin - great young coach has people excited
H'ville - mainly juniors with 3 yrs varsity experience is not young team
Portland - good new coach, best player went to mt. juliet, no players
Station camp - good coach, senior team, will drive 2 hours for a game but not play jpII
White house - is a young team
Merrol Hyde - no emphasis on winning
Westmoreland - best coach in the county
JPII - 3 state tourneys in 4 years. you may not recognize as a county school but the county papers do when it comes to players of the year and all county teams.
We agree on most things, I will put Hend and Beech on the same level, even though Hend can't seem to beat them this year. I think Beech probably chickened out of playing SC this year.
I will take back my JP comment, I have not seen them in action. How good is there competition? Good comment about Westmoreland.

Just checking the middle tennessee area out to see if any basketball head coaching positions will be coming available after this season....
Sumner County
Beech-possibly -every year is not a rebuilding year
Gallatin-new coach
Hendersonville-young team
Portland-new coach
Station Camp-winning,best in county
White House-young team
Merrel Hyde-just play
jpII-private school-not recognized as a county school

kids, kids, kids, stop the bickering. Isn't it funny how high school sports turn good people bad. You would think all the girls are on scholarship or division I prospects. The question is what are they learning from us or even better the coach that will help them in life when they hang up their sports bra.
I said it last year on a few conversations and I will say it again. The coach has an obligation to cut someone from the team if he/she is not going to play them. I would rather my little darling get hurt once that being dissappointed every year when she does not get to play. Just tell me of one coach that takes responsibility for keeping girls on their team and finds ways to use them. Coaching means producing results with team you have. Nobody in high school wants to be on the team for the fellowship. And their parents don't deserve it.

I like your gold ticket. Gallatin coach may the best in Sumner County, then maybe Station Camps Coach.

And I thought the question was about girls basketball coaches that could not teach, I mean basketball.

You stated several times that this was not directed at anyone. Now the truth comes out. Sounds like sour grapes. by the way, you get great credibility when you get your info from "your word from the county". Its not about wins and losses, its about whether or not my child plays enough, scores enough, is not yelled at, is captain, and we win. And you do not have to be a coach to have this opinion!
Heavy stuff Tigerball12, I guess I will skip the therapist this week. You have me pegged. I just wish I had a child playing so I could really fit your remarks. I want to be captain, forget the kid, It's about me uh.

STOP...STOP
Beech has a 2 or 3 year starter ,6'3 point guard named Crocker that can not be overlooked. He makes assist that no one in the county can top. He is also good for 8 ppg. I will take him over any guard in the county, and in District 9. Oh, did I mention, he plays with an attitude. You know, the guy most schools love to have because he is percieved as overconfident. He is just good, sometimes to good for his young teammates.
-
I'm feeling that White House will finally make their statement on BEECH. I think they will take the ball inside with the twin towers and win. The question is how good can the White House guards be? Station Camp beat them and so should WH at their place. Beech is coming off a tough loss to Smyna and who knows what their coach will do . He may play lots of players since it's not a district game.

I am so sorry your daughter is unhappy. It's crazy what we do with sports. We trust our child with an adult, but we have to be so careful when we think our child is being abused. Where else in life do we hesitate to speak with a person who we think is mistreating our child. I agree that your child should try to speak with the coach respectfully. I hope you find a coach that will listen respectfully. Remember, you are teaching your child to speak up for herself, and hopefully making the coach think. It is always the coaches final decision.
-
Did that really happen, or is that just a question?
Yes, this really happened, and things like this will continue to happen from a bad coach with a winning record. (As the topic goes). My word from the county is that a couple of Seniors did not leave the bench.

Yes they should. If WC beats Smyrna in the second round and and Play MJ in the finals, whoever wins between MJ and WC will have to play Smyrna in the second round of the Region. The runner up will play either Beech or Clarksville NE. I'm doing some assuming but if everyone wins who should, that is what will happen. I think I'd rather play CNE than Smyrna again.
1st Round Pick
WC wins over H'ville
Beech wins over "Poor Gallatin"
Lavergne upset win over Smyrna

At least Petunia looks fresh when she finally gets to play late in the 4th quarter.
What about a coach that doesn't play a senior at all on senior night, and the game will not effect the standings for the districts?

Whatever happened to "the best five play", regardless if they are "upperclassmen" or not. Is it disrespecting to the "upperclassmen" if they are the one's coming off of the bench to give a freshman who started a rest? Once again, your mindset always tells you that the "young ones" are the ones on the bench at the end of the game. I can only hope that you are not a coach.
What is the purpose of high school basketball? If winning is the only purpose of having a high school basketball team, then you are correct. Have you played high school athletics? Were you a Superstar? (Division I) Are you a parent? Have you coached? My only hope is when your child is a senior, and the coach plays all underclassmen in front of her or him. Talk about things you know from experience.
-
Look out , you know it's coming. My same old one track mind. A good high school coach only keeps kids on the team that he or she can play. There are certain smart things you can do to please most, maybe not all. First, in high school, respect your upperclassman, remember what I said, the coach allows them to remain on the team. Second, find places you can insert players without hurting , but giving your starters a blow, like the very end of quarters 1,2,3. And Third, when the game is trully out of hand, put in your young ones so they can see what varsity is like. Give your young ones alot of time and coaching on Freshman and JV games. And don't bring your young ones up too early, make it a big deal, an honor . I know it seems like we want our kids to grow up so quick. What ever happen to "waiting your turn".

I think you should do all of the above. Talk to the coach or administrator, but understand this before doing so: 1) You may talk to a principal that hired the coach. Principals can be very sensitive about someone they hired. 2). Talking to the coach may upset the coach. There are risk involved either way you go. Some coaches will not talk to parents. It is best to speak to someone. You may have a coach that just didn't notice what they were doing. Sometimes it may open the coaches eyes to your son or daughter. Atter that you have to make a decision, does your child want to play knowing the coach does not see your child as a player. Some kids enjoy friendships whether they are playing or not. The last choice would be to quit. Life is full of many opportunities. Your child may find something else they enjoy. Remember this, I have found that alot of coaches see you a certain way and changing their perception is difficult. I have seen boys play AAU, spend hours in the gym, attend summer camps, and make huge improvements, yet the coach see them as a practice team player forever.

Well said............. I have seen this at other schools. I don't even have a daughter or granddaughter playing. I usually catch a little grief from others on my beliefs.
This coach and other coaches do not care about the High School student. Notice I said HS and not college. There is a big difference between high school students and kids on scholarships with coaches that can be fired at any minute. A big difference.
My point is these coaches are so busy playing for the future, they can't enjoy the present. The coach will not allow the high school student to enjoy the present.
Always keep in mind, it is the coach who decides who is on the team, and who remains on the team each year. It is just wrong to leave a senior on a team and not play her. I always say it would be better to cut them once , instead of hurting them each year over and over again.
Before someone out there starts throwing out "the best should play" line, Remember this is high school. Also remember the next time your boss meets with you and says. " __________, we have made a decision to go in another direction, you have alot to offer, but we have another person that will bring something new to the table". In other words, "new " means a younger person than you with less experience but lots of potential. Relate that to a freshman playing in front of an upper classman with the same skills.
Some of these coaches are playing younger players because they have potential, while the other girls who have been committed to the program lose their playing time. Like you said earlier, the outcome of these games is not going to change by playing this freshman.
Freshman and JV ball is where to coach up girls.
Believe me, most of us know when we see a freshman that is a superstar. She should be a major player on your team from the beginning. Enough said, this discussion only makes me mad.. "Coaches are Gods". copyrighted by me.

LaVergne handed Gallatin the game last night and Gallatin players should send LaVergne players a note of thanks today. With over 20 turnovers and God knows how many missed baskets by LaVergne is the reason LaVergne lost, not because Gallatin played better. There's no way LaVergne should have loss and they know it. It was a poorly played game by both teams and if I were Gallatin players, I don't think I would come away feeling like we played our best and that was a big win BUT we were lucky that we had the referee to blow his whistle & call a questionable foul with 5 seconds remaining after my teammate threw up a wild shot in the midst of a scramble!!
What about "Poor Gallatin vs Beech this Friday night. Is it not one of biggest games for Gallatin girls in a few? Would they be tied with Beech if they win?
How hungry will the Green Wave be?

If (and it sounds like it is)its customary at that school for the 2nd string to play only the last few minutes of the game no matter if winning or loosing by a lot, then I don't think I would complain. Because if it was my daughter that was a starter that means she has earned the right to play as long as the coach sees fit. And when the other girls have worked on their game and improved enough to be a starter then and only then do they deserve all the playing time the coach sees fit. I have heard enough about poor pitiful whoever that don't play enough....how many hours has your daughter spent outside of practice to get better?...does she love the game?... have you worked with her to make her a better player. When and if that happens then god willing, you will have a starter on your hands and can quit complaining.
And this is an opinion of a Father who has a daughter(soph) who plays and sits on the bench most of the time.
I may sound like a broken record. If the coach determines someone is good enough to dress out with the varsity, it is their responsibility to put them in at the right time. (Such as out of control games)
I don't propose this for H.S. but I would like to see some of these coaches coach a rec team that has playing requirements. That takes real talent. Figuring out when and how to use stronger players yet supplement with weaker players. Your goal is still to win, and make it fun for all.

The truth is the coach does not care about every young lady on the team. Building confidence in every player on the team is the coaches responsibility. I agree with the comment, Cut them once, but don't cut them deep every year by allowing them on the team with no intention of playing them. Be man or woman enough to tell them they are the practice squad.

Can they beat a Beech team that just got upset Friday night? If they can, what back to back losses for Beech.
