  1. heck yea it is loosing respect. And honestly i believe being a multi-sport athletes having done everything from soccer, basketball, baseball, football, wrestling, cross country, and track in my highschool/middleschool years it is my conclusion that no one sacrifices their body more than the competitive serious track athlete. Which is why it utterly annoys me that track gets probably the second least respect right behind xc. even for example at our school our most succesful programs by far have been track an xc bringing both state titles every year. no other sprot has made it to the state championship but track and cross country in our school history, yet who do you think gets the budget increase each year and all the respect not us thats who.

Such is the life of a runner. It stinks, but everyone else deals with it too. You are not alone.

  2. Hat's off to DL's student cheering section. They were definitely the 6th man this game! Thanks for making the trip and making a difference.

Wish I could have seen this one. I only hope that Waldo was there again in the DL student section. That made the District Final bearable to watch Waldo go hide in various parts of the gym during timeouts.

  3. I love that my simple comment about holding the ball created so much banter. The only reason I hope it doesn't happen again is because I was bored out of my mind! At the end of the day I don't really care if they do it again, we won! HA. All DL comments have not one thing to stand on, not one, because they got BEAT. End of story, and tomorrow night it continues. I can't wait!!! I'll be the one in BLACK!

The conversation wasn't about winning and losing. It was about the validity of the "stall."

And to lovedeball, the fact that you cannot continue the conversation is what is really pathetic.

  4. Ha.....so let me get this straight. DL's offense, in that championship game (that CPA won) was so great that CPA had to back off. No, I don't think so and most folks would not agree either after DL had gone 0-2 against CPA before that game. Here is what happened. Coach McPherson knew that the DL team could not run with last years CPA team so he did what any good coach (including Maddux) would do. He slowed the game to a crawl and made it a chess match. He spread the floor and caused CPA to overplay the ball which did indeed cause problems for CPA. CPA made the adjustment to pull back into a zone and DL stood in the corners with the ball and let the clock run. Maddux chose to let them. That's how Coach McPherson equalized the talent on the floor. It totally worked and DL almost won. No one ever said that CPA was to mighty to play a game that way. Just like any team, they will do whatever needs to be done (inside the rules) to win.

By the way flatline17, it's amazing how you can still spout off about CPA but have nothing to back it up with. CPA won the district and the region and went to the state tournament. They didn't lose a single game in the state of TN last year until the state tournament. It was one of those years to remember. Why not just be happy for the guys. Other schools will have their day.

It was a rare "up" year. 9AA in not usually represented at the BORO. We'll see how tomorrow goes in the 9AA championship game. David Lipscomb will be tough. They are playing very well. I hope it's a classic.

I have never once said that CPA was bad or anything of that sort last year. I don't understand how I have nothing to back up my point that it was not just DL that played a role in the "stalling" of the game. CPA also did what they had to win, and that was to sit back and not attack the offense. CPA, when attacking on defense, was getting torched and scored on with DL's quick ball movement.

  5. Ha Ha....how can you take advantage of the rules when you lost? I believe CPA won that championship game last year against DL as well as the other games that year. In fact, we totally put in to you in your own gym. A clean sweep by a CPA team that won the district and region titles. In regards to the 2007-08 season, why should we get over ourselves.....we won.

If you're going to talk about last year then at least have something to back it up with. 0-3 against CPA doesn't exactly give you bragging rights. On the other hand, I give credit to Coach McPherson for playing that game in the only way that DL could possibly win. He knew that he'd have to slow the game way down to have a prayer of winning. He almost succeeded by simply choosing not to play. Boring but effective.

Now let me say that the DL-CPA match up on Tuesday will be a classic. It will go to the team that takes care of the ball and makes free throws.

I don't know who you're referring to when you use the word "you." I am in no way connected with DL. You just restated everything I said. McPherson played the only game that he could win with. Now, he didn't win, but that style gave him the best chance to do so, and if that means taking advantage of the rules, so be it.

It was CPA that chose not to play. CPA could have come out and guarded them if they really wanted to, but they chose not to. If CPA had put pressure on the ball, that would have forced DL to move the ball around. But when CPA did that DL scored on them because the defense was so spread out. CPA fans need to stop acting like if using this same technique gave their team the best chance of winning that CPA wouldn't do it... in fact CPA has done it as I already stated.

  6. agreed

Hmm... I seem to remember CPA holding the ball for the entire third quarter in the 2004 region finals. You do what you have to in order to win.

Plus, last year DL ran the same offense the whole game, just eventually when DL was tooling CPA with it CPA decided not to guard them. Give DL credit for taking advantage of the rules. Get over yourselves... apparently you all would not do what was needed to win.

  7. I don't really think Maddux can be blamed for Hunter Miller getting sick over the summer and David Anderson having two surgeries and then getting injured again. You can't blame Maddux for Z Mason deciding to play or not on any given night. What really happened is the 24/7 basketball mentality of these three players finally caught up with them. You can't blame the kids either. If you're going to "go for broke" then you have to sell out and give it 24/7. You can't blame Maddux for graduating (last year) two seniors that were the perfect compliment to these three great players. You can't blame Maddux for the TSSAA's screw up at the state tournament last season. You can't blame Maddux for running off good players that should be playing (like a few years ago). That hasn't happened. If anything, new players are coming out of the woodwork at CPA. It's already ready starting to happen.....the kids want to play for him and you will see him build a future powerhouse at CPA (if he stays).

So for me, if Maddux, through all of this, manages to rally the troups and pull off a district title and maybe even a region title, then he is without a doubt "coach of the year" in 9AA. Talk about overcoming adversity. Either way, he's still a great coach that will see many more great seasons. If there is any one thing that Drew could improve on it would be talking to the refs less and coaching more. He's like having another really smart man on the floor when he's got his head in the game and not on the refs. Of course, this is just my humble opinion.

So essentially, no one is to blame for CPA underperforming? And you're wrong with the statement that you can't blame Maddux for Z not wanting to play some nights. Granted, some players are more stubborn than others, but it is the coach's responsibility to motivate his players.

  8. I would assume no, but crazier things have happened when an award is given by rival competitors...

It is voted by only the other coaches in the district correct? In that case, it will probably go to whoever the other coaches dislike the least, given that his team has had at least a decent season. In the past it's seemed to be more of a "most improved team award" rather than a team success award like I believe it should. If that is still the case, East Lit.'s coach has a great chance, but I have no idea. Could go to Shelton, Maddux, HF's coach (don't know his name), or McPherson as well. The award SHOULD go to either Maddux or McPherson IMO.

I could see it going to HF's coach (Harden is the name or something of that nature) if emotions play into the vote since it is his last year coachign there after I think 19 years, plus he has done a good job there. Not saying it will go there, just that I could see the reasoning for it if it happened.

  9. CPA showed up big tonight, playing unarguably their best game of the season beating FRA by 47. I say that not because the of margin of victory, but because of their incredible energy and relentless attack, something that they have been lacking in recent weeks. CPA had 11 players score, with big contributions by Corbin Taylor who had 14 with four 3's, and a number of other players who were active scoring and and on the defensive end. This is what they need to be successful here on out, as opposed to last Friday vs. East Lit. when only 3 players scored in a victory. CPA has only occasionally looked like last year's state team this year, but their performance tonight helped to wipe away some worries of disappointing performances the last few weeks. Despite playing a sub-par opponent, this has to be huge for CPA's confidence and momentum heading into the rest of the tournament. CPA has struggled often this season finishing games the way they like, too often making close games out of what should be blow-outs, but tonight they won all 4 quarters with the starters only playing 2 or 3 minutes of the second half, and sitting half of the 2nd quarter. CPA will play Hume-Fogg this Friday at Ezell-Harding, and will look to avenge last Tuesday's collapse against HF. HF is a very good team, but I like CPA's chances in this one with their seemingly new found energy and killer mentality. If they can keep that up and stay motivated, they should have a good run in the playoffs. The CPA team, especially the seniors, know that nothing thats happened this season matters anymore, and that it's now or never for them to start playing like they know they are capable of, and boy did they have fun doing that tonight.

By the way, Z Mason had the best dunk tonight that I've ever seen in person. I was in awe /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

    Box score: http://www.highschoolsports.net/Stats/Game...s_id=tennessean

It's not exactly hard to have that many people score when CPA is already up by 30 and jacking threes. CPA played very well last night, but they have been inconsistent in the past, no doubt about that. Let's not act like everyone else out there does not have the same "energy and killer mentality." CPA is not the only place that wants to win.

  10. Thanks for the info....I was curious about DL's team for next year. As for the District Tournament, I do not expect any surprises. Yes, I agree CPA and DL will have to show up to play. But there is no agrument that these two teams have the most overall team talent in the district. Every team in the district has their talented players, they just don't have the deep team talent that CPA and DL have. I am not saying it is going to be easy, but I do think that CPA and DL will come out #1 and #2. Hopefully in that order! Good luck to all 9AA teams, this season has flown by!

It's the district tournament, there WILL be surprises. Ezell took CPA to overtime. The same Ezell team that lost to Pearl-Cohn. Everyone is beatable in this district.

  11. I'll give everyone something to comment on. We just finished up with MLK. They kicked our butts tonight. Now we have played everyone in the district. I believe that Antoine Christian is the best pure basketball player in our district. Mason is the toughest matchup and Miller is a tremendous shooter. What do all of you guys think?

Agreed. Christian is a great ballplayer. Mason isn't so much a great basketball player, i mean he is obviously above most of the players in the district, but his size and strength are so much more than anyone else that he overpowers everyone in the district. Miller is too quick for pretty much every defender, and he's going to hit shots whether you're in his face or not.

  12. FRA will be in Div II next year thus leaving 9AA. Not exactly greener pasturers just different pastures and alot of asphalt in the fan's windshield. Indeed, even though FRA lost to David Lipscomb last night FRA is as good or better than anyone in 9AA. However, I am biased. FRA is struggling to solve the riddle of getting a rhythm in low scoring games. Best to learn quick because CPA is next with what could be another low 30's scoring game going down to the wire.

Should be a heck of a finish to the year and the tournament for 9AA this year.

I think FRA's struggles have more to do with foul trouble. Last night, Wyatt was in foul trouble, and I can't remember what the situation was for the Hume-Fogg loss, but holding on to leads has been a problem and that typically is caused by foul trouble.

  13. I would love some details about the FRA - Hume Fogg game. All the paper said was that Hume Fogg had a run in the 4th quarter. Was FRA in foul trouble by that point?

Pearl Cohn - DL game was great. You kept thinking DL would run away with it, but then PC would answer with a 3 ptr. Very good game. PC is much better than I had expected this early in the season.

FRA was in a bit of foul trouble at that point, but they typically foul a little more than usual anyways so it wasn't anything big. Hume Fogg didn't get back in the game through free throws, they just got some steals and some easy buckets to make their run. FRA probably outplayed them for 3 quarters, but of course it takes 4 quarters to win a game.

  14. There is no excuse for "lack of effort" when all the other members of the team are working as hard as they can. If a player doesn't want to "bring it", then sit him down and let him decide what he really wants. Win or lose....

CPA needs to get back to beating their chests and having fun. That includes the coaches.

Working hard and beating their chests and showing up the competition are two different things....

  15. Why? Golden Tate, Harrison Smith, Randall Cobb, Patrick Turner, Michael Oher, Patrick Willis, Brandon Fanney, Dont'a Hightower, Brandon Warren, Graig Cooper, Greg Hardy

You just named 10 players over the course of 5 years. That pales in comparison to the number of great recruits from states like florida, texas, california, or ohio. Please don't act like tennessee high school football is something amazing.

  16. Does anyone know about MLK, PC or FRA?

No clue about MLK and PC, but I have seen an FRA game, and they are young but very, very talented. They start an 8th grader and 2 sophomores if that's any indication.
