  1. I am a high school coach that has seen my wrestling team progress about as far as I feel they can without any experience. To help with that, I am starting an AAU club team. I am familiar with it from the parent side as my 8 yr old has wrestled for the past two seasons. I just need to know what I need to look for or any pitfalls that might lay in wait. Any help out there to grow the sport. As a reference, I am at Coffee Co which is Manchester. Thanks

  2. Does anyone have a list of dual or individual tournaments coming up for the 2013/2014 season? Would love to branch out a little and see other parts of the state and their kids. Anyone with info, please post them here with dates and contact info if you have it. Thanks, and God Bless!

  3. Great post King Greene. My name is Roger Barlow and I have been Tori's head coach for 3 of her four years. our sentiment is exactly what we decided four years ago when she started wrestling. Initially we had her just to pick up a few points by forfiets here and there but she has turned into one of our leaders both in school and in the practice room. We have come to depend on her and will miss her when she is gone. She wrestled her last home match last night and got much love for her efforts and accomplishments. I wish I had 14 just like her.

  4. I'm guessing that whoever wrote down the poll results couldn't spell Livingston and just inserted Lipscomb instead! If LA has improved like they should have since last year, they will be in that poll soon after week 0. Are you from LA?

I have spent more time on that field in Livingston than most have, but not all. I have to keep up from afar now as I now wear a different color. You are right though, LA should be very good this year, I just hope they don't get Maynordized in the second half like last year. The Dekalb Co. comment made me laugh though!

  5. I coach both football and wrestling and have to say that wrestling compliments football and can take a player to the next level of athleticism. i have noticed though, just because a kid is a good football player does that mean he will be a good wrestler. Conversley, most wrestlers that play football are very good at it indeed. The skill sets are similar in fundamentals, footwork, balance, quickness, explosiveness, etc... but wrestling technique can be tough for some to master. To answer the question though, at my school, players are encouraged to participate in both.

  6. OK, I went on a little rant about Signal, and the post was about 4a top 10.

It’s Greenville, Maplewood, Lexington, Giles, DeKalb, the schools that have been there done that, East Ham, Signal are newbie’s.

Troll, please stop skirting the question, why did your coach jump classification, you’re a 3 A school. Running from Alcoa! Well if that’s the case it’s a slap in the face to Greenville, and Lexington. The great and powerful Signal scared of Alcoa, “arse kickin' we an’t scart, played there JV, 10TH grade squad and beat them pretty bad, with all freshman. And we are going up there this fall. And you heard it here first East Ham and Alcoa varsity will have a home and home in 13, and 14.

Yes, you kicked our butts the last three years…. Good for you. How many did you have out for spring practice, be careful I no the #. We had 71, not including the freshman. I gave you props you are good with a great coach (he will be gone after this year, mark it down) you have great players. Signal’s depth is well there is none. You have played football for three years you dominated 2A, you really did not do anything to warrant labeling a 4A power, and I never said we were. Your team last year gave up 72 points to Blackman, Nobody has ever scored 72 on us. Polk spanked your butts, and I will not go into the issue that caused you vacate games, and you do want to go there, I no more about that then you think. Or you going to tell the whole world you team was built around 1 player, cause with out him you were very beatable. Do you think you would have marched into Greenville and beat them. Prove your worth in 4A, or go back to 2A or even better 3a were you belong. East Ham is not declaring state power we need to earn it, and we need to do it fast, cause 5A is up next.

Arrogance will get beat faster then anything else, but I guess the whole town and school have taken on the demeanor of its head coach.

Since when has Dekalb been there and done that?! Is there any mention of a pretty good Livingston Academy team from last season. I know they beat both Dekalb and the might BDP last season. I am not saying they are world beaters but they should be pretty good. Greenville IS the team to beat until what time they are beaten. Signal is tough and Maplewood has learned from last year. Giles has history but the sleeper might come from out west. Lexington has underacheived the past two or three season at least in the playoffs. It might be their year to go dancing.

  8. I am really looking forward to this game. It has been a long time since I have been able to get to a game due to being busy on Friday nights myself. I am also excited with the fact that it is LA/SC, what is the luck that my bye could be on that game. I remeber a time when these two teams played and the ref told myself and a couple of others that it was the hardest hitting, clean game that he has ever seen. It is great that two teams can be such heated rivals and also respect each other the way they do. I suspect that it is still like that at least. Should be a great game and I can't wait. Go BIG BLUE!!!!

  9. I am looking for a game to go to this Friday night, but I have some criteria to make my decision. I am looking to find out if any of the teams still alive run the 4-4 defense or maybe a variation of it. I am wanting to look at some different fronts and alignments than I am used to seeing. So, help a fellow out, what teams run a 4-4 or maybe even a 3-4. That will make my descision for me. Thanks for any help.
